Every thing I've found was for people already rooted. I am looking to root a EVO that already has this OTA update but does not have a root yet.
How can I root it? Is it possible? I have Unrevoked but it says firmware too new. I did a factory reset, tried it in charge only, and disk drive, no dice.

The Q&A Forum is more suited for this.
Thread moved to Q&A.
How about you give us some details about your phone and what you have tried? What software version are you running? Clearly you haven't tried every method because the Evo is rootable.
Unrevoked 3 will work I used it day before yesterday its really easy

hello, i searched some but didn't find what i was looking for, so here it goes. i still haven't installed the nov. ota update yet, keep pushing update later, i want to root but am very inexperienced with that and i know that after updating we can't root for now. should i just install the update, have there been any issues with this update. just wondering because i have a friend that installed the update and he says that it made his phone slower. thanks guys.
Unrevoked provides root with the latest ota. I run a custom rom so I an not sure about the ups our downs of the latest official ota.
Sent from my girlfriend, according to my girlfriend.
Just update to latest OTA and root from there. That's how I did it, using unrevoked. Also youtube search "root droid incredible" and there are a lot of great step-by-step walkthroughs
from what I heard the update just installs more bloatware/verizon market whatever you want to call it...so I would not be surprised if it made it slower...i love custom roms so just do A LOT of research before you do anything with rooting

Although if you install a custom Rom the bloated won't matter... something to think about

Titanium backup will remove bloatware. Is the Nov ota update rootable yet? Before I returned my Incredible I know it wasn't as of then....

It's very rootable. I rooted from it and put Myn 's warm two point two on mine

I reverted my Droid Incredible to stock and then tried to root again. It is showing that it has Android 2.3.4 on it now and I am unable to reroot the phone. It errors out and asks if the firmware is too new. Anyone else having this issue and if so how do we root again?
Have you tried Scotty1223's method for rooting gingerbread? I'm on my phone but it's titled "root 2.3.4,downgrade,and s-off" within the general section. Otherwise I'd provide a link.

I ended up using zerg rush to help me root

Hey, curious, which process did you use to go back to stock? I have to do that soon.
Should be able to find an .ruu, or use pb31.img to restore it

Is there anyway possible to root my og evo without computer? My usb port is broke :l

I think if you downgrade hboot and firmware far enough you could use unrevoked. I think captain Throwback has downgrade PC36imgs available for that. He's got links in pretty much all the root tutorials here in the general forum.

You can always get a sd card reader and put any necessary files on it. However any method of unloicking or rooting does require PC access. Google put a stop to rooting apps quite a while back.
Koush, author of CWM, was working on a CM app store that would be able to host all of these kinds of apps... so we just need to be patient and those days will return.
So I had already unlocked the phone using HTCDev's boot unlocker. Everything seemed fine right up until it came time in this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1751796 to run Revolutionary. The phone is bootlooping to the point that Revolutionary can't get the root, it fails and says hit almost any key to exit.
Any help would be appreciated, I'm about to throw this thing through the window.
is it GB 2.3.3 or 2.3.4?
try flashing a newer radio
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda app-developers app
Do you happen to have a link to one?
crap the only place its even stable enough is at the bootloader and adb can't communicate with it. I don't know what to do. This blows.
search this forum for radios. there's a thread on dev section. and what android version were you on when you tried to root? might have to use taco root for 2.3.4 I think
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda app-developers app
Well, if you unlocked through HTC you have to relock in order to s-off. Not sure if you knew that.
