Right now, I have the HTC Vivid. It's a great phone, but the development is absolutely terrible and I don't see it getting better any time soon lol. I've had my eyes on the Nexus for a few weeks but still don't know if its worth buying. My Vivid is worth about $200 used, so that leaves $200 more dollars to buy a new one from the Play Store. I'm only 15 and am not old enough to get a job so this is a large investment for me! I really like the development of the nexus as well as the AMOLED screen! Please comment your opinion phone and what you think I should do below!

If you have the money to spare then most definitely yes.

I just got in touch with someone who will buy my Xbox for $300 so I will most likely have the money, but is it worth selling my Vivid as well and only having the nexus?

Also, I have the phone running Virtuous, an ICS ROM, so it pretty much is the same as the ICS on the nexus so getting pics isn't a big deal

Alright, if my buyer for the Xbox does purchase, I'm getting it Also, how good is the screen on the Nexus? My Vivid's qHD screen is fine, but absolutely TERRIBLE when looking at it outside. It's so bad, that outside, at half brightness, you can't even see the screen!
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using XDA
Really depends on the phone you're coming from, I had an LG G2x, which the Tegra 2 cpu was great and handled mostly everything fine, but the lack of RAM, bigger screen, and no open source drivers had me looking at the One S, but the GNex is more of what I like.
Anyways, definitely go for it. AMOLED screens in general are known for their outdoor visibility, and this one holds up perfectly. Just make sure you get an anti-glare screen protector if you decide to buy one.
I too am wondering if I should go for the Galaxy Nexus or the Samsung Galaxy SII? I have a HTC Amaze, but I am just ready for something different than HTC. I have had them for over 2 years now.

Imo the biggest advantage of a Nexus phone is the software that comes directly from Google. No need to wait 6 Months+ for bloating up Software with Apps you usually don't need or can install separatley. And you don't have to worry about buying a 500$+ phone and don't get the mayor update Google announced 10 months after the phone was released because the follower is already released and only the follower will get that update (gratz Samsung for your SGS behaviour)
Buy one!!!!! I never realized how much I would love this phone until I purchased it on launch day. With a ROM, kernel, and 4.0.4 radios, this phone pretty much won't be obsolete for a damn good amount of time.

I should say go for it!
I came from a sgs2, then got a HTC one x, sold it because it was just a little to big for me. Now i got a Nexus. I love to root and have custom roms. Now I have my nexus, the only question that remains is: why didn't I buy a Nexus phone earlier?
You'll love it!
Thanks guys! He Xbox should be bought soon and then I will have enough money so after I buy the Nexus, I won't be completely broke lol

Why should I have an insurance plan? Also, I will get using the GSM model sold directly from Google. I am a rooting/ROMing so I think this will be a good phone for it. I'm even gonna try my hand at developing, my dad is a computer programmer and says he will help me! Maybe you guys will see some new ROMs coming soon

Yes yes yes - but not with LTE
I have the google HSPA+ Nexus. I cannot believe I didn't buy it earlier. (Well, I can, because it was originally about $700..)..
Anyway, this is the best freaking phone I have ever had. In the last few days, I've watched two full-length movies on it. I've NEVER done that with a phone before.
The performance is great, the UI is great, the hardware is great, and (at least for GSM), the battery life is phenominal.
Would I like an 8mp camera instead of the camera it has? Sure. Have I taken GREAT photos with the camera I have now in the Nexus-- yes. This is a nice-to-have for me, not a deal-breaker.
Having an unlocked stock google OS is great, by the way.
Anyway, I could go on and on. The bottom line, it's worth it.
I just found a guy the XDA market selling his white GSM Nexus for $420 shipped! Hope its worth it. It seems kind of scetchy with paying via PayPal. I will include the link.

Ok, my order for the SG II did not go through for whatever reason, so I can go either way now. I am coming from a HTC Amaze, and the development over there kind of has spuddered. I am ready to try something different, having had HTC devices for over two years straight (MyTouch 4G (great), and HTC Amaze (ok)).
I am ready to go Galaxy Nexus, but the biggest concern to me is data speeds. I have gotten 18Mbps down on the Amaze. It supports the HSPA+ 42? Has anyone seen those speeds on the GSM Nexus?

If a person has the THOUGHT of owning a Galaxy Nexus then it is obviously worth buying because it is still relevant to them. Nexus devices are relevant for a long time, even past one year or even two.
I currently have the sensation. Always had HTC my whole android life. Love HTC but thinking about diving into the Samsung life. I'm thinking about buying the unlocked gsm galaxy nexus from the play store.
I can't always afford the best phone at the time, I pay cash. That's why the one s and galaxy s3 are of limits. I am on T-Mobile US
You guys think it's a good idea to switch? I realize this is the nexus forum, and it would be biased. But I want to know if it is a good idea, or if I should wait for something else. Is is too late to buy one of these?
Just give me all opinions. Thanks in advance.

I literally just changed from a Rezound to the GSM nexus. I can almost gaurantee you'll like it more. HTC sense drags android down so much. I also really enjoy the plainess of stock android. Also if there was ever a good time to jump ship on HTC its now. They are dying off quickly right now.

From what I have seen so far it is decent. You can get a 2000mah battery that negligibly increases the size of the phone if the stock isn't good enough (1750mah). I don't use my phone a whole lot during the week because I can't carry it into where I work but it has been better than my rezound was. My typical use with my rezound would give it all of 10-12 hours of life, I see my nexus getting about 14-16 especially with power saving kernels and simpler roms.
I was Verizon + HTC for years and I just switched to the GNex on Straight Talk. I could not be happier. It's an amazing phone at a great price. JB is what Android was meant to be. Battery, signal, camera; it's all been great.
You won't regret it.
if u are a heavy user like me id recommend getting larger batteries. the stock battery only lasts me about 8 hours with medium/ heavy usage ( using facebook/ twitter/ youtube and playing huge games like max payne)

Most seem to think there will be several of them, not just 1 this time. And that they will be out by Christmas. But there's no official word this is just the rumors. They for sure won't be US$350 though, which is why I just bought this one. I, too, am a to-hell-with--your-contracts kind of guy, so I pay full price. And frankly, 600+ for the new Nexus is just more than I am willing to pay. Especially when I care nothing about being the fastest or having the newest. I'm happy with my OG Evo right now, in fact. But DONE with Sprint!
OK so here's the deal. My upgrade is here (Verizon) and I'm really diggin the new razr m, but I've only used HTC devices and I LOVE them. So should I use my upgrade for the razr m at 50 bucks or should I wait on one of the new unannounced HTC devices that looks to be releasing later this month. You know I usually judge my next purchace on how well its built, is the software current, and of course rootability. Motorola just recently stated most 2011 models will be upgraded to 4.0 or 4.1 (can't recall exactly). They are working with devices that do preform well and have decent battery life, plus at that upgrade price, that's a killer deal.
Now that I have become a Motorola rep for you lol, try it out see if it fits you, if not move on. It's all about choice in Android.

I really think you should spend 100$ more and get the galaxy s3 (wireless.amazon.com for 150$) or, spend 99$ for a galaxy nexus. I'm never buying a motorola phone, they seem pretty notorious for not updating their software. Also, if you are a fan of XDA and the things that are happening here, stick to what's hot and is going to continue generating interest for at least the next 2 years - which in this case, i think will definitely be the S3. The nexus phones are also super popular and will be worked on too.
don't go motorola, just don't. They're garbage (coming from a Droid X2.)
In all honesty, right now, I'd go with the G-nex. I don't really like the S3, but it's just personal taste I guess

I'm looking at the Note 2 and SG3 as my top two right now though.
The only thing that concerns me is the SG3 is already almost a year old, and the 4 is coming sometime this year.
Does anyone have any news on when the SG4 would be available? I hear all types of rumors of first quarter. What do you guys think?

I definitely won't be going HTC anymore.

Even though I've never used an S3, they are so wildly popular that you are bound to see good ROM support for many months to come. I feel this is what plagues the DINC2, since so many have become fed up with HTC (& Verizon) and moved on to other phones. The remaining devs do great work though!:highfive:
I've been using a Verizon Galaxy S3 (Verizon is dual core vs everyone else getting a quad core) as my work phone. Running an AOSP rom I'm very happy with it. My sister just upgraded from an iPhone 4 and LOVES her new stock Sprint GS3.
Personally I'm tired of being a flashaholic and just ordered a Lumia 822 Windows phone to replace the Incredible. I wasn't looking to shell out cash for a new phone and it's got the same processor as the VZ GS3. I figure I run Windows at home, own an Xbox, and support Windows at work so an iPhone was out.
I've got till june for my update. I think I might be one of the very last of the inc2 users by then.
I'm probably the only person that went from a Dinc 2 to an SGS3 back to a Dinc 2.
I liked the SGS3. The ROMS are pretty good although AOSP roms were lacking a bit back when I used them. I was kind of forced to sell my SGS3 as I needed to pay off some expenses so I went back to the Dinc 2.
Looking back, I don't really miss the SGS3 that much. Sure, in pretty much every way it's a better phone and LTE is nice. I did get adjusted to the 4.7in screen and the overall size of the device, but I really do like the Dinc 2 form factor a lot better.
Whatever my next phone is, I'll try to talk myself out of getting something the size of the SGS3. I really hope a new 4.3in phone, or something around that, comes out on Verizon. There's the HTC M4, but I wonder if it will ever see the light of day on Verizon. I wish Verizon would sell the flagship HTC phones and not altered models.
I'll probably use the Dinc 2 until it breaks or I can't get a hold of a good looking stable rom. I'm going to stick with flagship phones from now on though.

This has been my concern as well, especially with the newer smartphones. I kinda like the pocket-size of the dinc2. Seems like everything is getting bigger instead of focusing on the real need. BATTERY LIFE.
I'm going to miss everyone here, the ROMs, the kernels and the pureness!
Getting my Xperia Z in a few days, felt it was time for a change and the nexus models(4) I don't think seems good enough to be the next nexus device. I hope I can eventually find a combo on the Z as good as Xenon and trinity on the gnex!
Peace out
