Hi,
I am trying to flash MIUI on my Defy which is currently running the official 2.2.2 released here in India.
What i have done so far (and repeated the entire process several times):
-Rooted the phone using SuperOneClick
-Installed ROM Manager
-Installed Clockworkmod Recovery 2.5.1.8 for Defy
-Downloaded 'miuiandroid_Defy-2.3.4a' the then latest version of MIUI from their site and the corresponding language pack
-Installed and booted into custom recovery
-Took a nandroid backup of the current ROM
-Wiped data, cache and dalvik cache
-Selected the .zip ROM file from the sdcard and installed it
-After the installation was done, i rebooted the system
This is where the problem started. I had read that the phone might take forever for its first boot. But in my case, the phone would stay stuck on the M logo till i removed the battery. On restart, the same thing repeated.
I found the SBF for the retail version of 2.2 i found on the forums and used RSD Lite 4.9 to flash it to the phone and then restored the nandroid backup i had made previously to get back to where i started from. And i repeated the entire process 4 times using 3 different versions of MIUI.
Am i missing something here? What can i do to get the phone to move past that M logo? I have been trying to find a solution to this issue since over a week now. None of the forums seem to have a solution to a similar problem. Any help would be appreciated.
Answer to all Your problems
It's a common mistake. You must have forgotten about wipe all (cache and personal data) before installing zip package containing MIUI.

hi
I´ve rooted and flashed my desire several times. rooted with unrevoked3 everytime and tried different roms like leedroid 2.2d, 2.2 f and rcmixhd 0.13. First time i did it i flashed leedroid 2.2d and it worked fine. After 1,5 months running leedroid my phone rebooted due to the overheating problems that 50 % of us suffer from (i rebooted it manually several times during those months and it worked until this day).
It got stuck at the bootupscreen with white background and green HTCtext. couldn´t install RUU via windows, had to grab the PB99IMG.zip onto my SD and boot into bootloader and restore my phone this way. Then i rooted it AGAIN, and flashed rcmixhd 0.13. Success! But only until i rebooted it manually, stuck at bootupscreen again.
I restored the phone from SD with pb99img as earlier. Flashed rcmixhd again and made sure i wiped everything (dalvik, cache, formatted sdcard and created a EXT), success! Until i rebooted my desire...back again.
Now im running stock non-rooted froyo. I´m getting tired of spending the night fixing it but i still want to use senseHD and i like tweaking stuff..
Do any of u guys recognize this problem and what can i do to fix it?
If any of you are from sweden, plz answer in swedish!
Same problem here, the only way i got to install a custom rom was by installing update-cm-6.1.0-Desire-signed.zip. Then installed a custom rom by using the "Rom Manager" tool.
Downloading and flashing through recovery mode, "No, can do!"
Ok, but "update-cm-6.1.0-Desire-signed.zip" isn´t that a custom ROM? Did you install that through ROM manager?
And did you flash another ROM on top of it?

yes this is a custom rom, i did a normal flash first to "update-cm-6.1.0-Desire-signed.zip" (some how that worked???). Then i reflashed through the "ROM manager" tool.
Do you remember to always wipe everything in Recovery before flashing a new rom?
Seems like I always used to have a bootloop or bootfreeze when did not do the proper wipe.

i wiped everything even the Dalvik Cache, didn't help a thing.
Could is be that is has something to do with rom's that are not signed?
I have this same problem now, any possible sollutions?
Perdonally i would suggest to reformat your sd cards and try again. Dont forget to wipe everything.

Beat me to it. I had the same problem when I flashed FXP052 because I rushed and forgot to wipe the data and the delvic. Follow the wiki and you shouldn't have any problems

Ok so I installed the usb drivers through kies and got the latest firmware from kies. Installed Odin 3.07. Backed up my stuff. Flashed recovery-cmw-hercules using Odin. Then I rooted my phone using tmobilegalaxys2rootICS (flashing with CWM recovery) and installed CWM-SuperSU v0.87. Updated root and CWM on the next boot using SuperSU app and Rom Manager to the current version (non touch for CWM). I then got cyanogenmod9.1.0-hercules (stable) and gapps-ics-20120317-signed. I wiped the internal SD card and external SD card. Went into recovery manager. Did a factory reset, cache wipe, dalvik wipe, battery stat wipe. Flashed cyanogen9, flashed gapps, fixed permissions and rebooted. Now i'm stuck in a bootloop just looking at the start up screen of cyanogenmod. I have access to the recovery menu and the odin screen so i'm not bricked as far as i know, just bootloop'd. I read somewhere of a super wipe by JDT or someone along those lines but i can't find those scrips to flash them. Any help would be great. Thanks!

Hey! As of I know, you are not using a TOUCH recovery. Sad to say but a lot of ROMs will only work on TOUCH recovery, because they changed something in the Cache wiping that ain't screwing up with device or something (as I understood digging up a little bit).
Here is my advice, go with this for now:
MIRROR
It's v13.1 of Sk8er's recovery. Though I want to tell you, if you try to hardboot into it (what I mean is: hold +/- volume and plug in USB) it probably won't work since it doesn't work for me for a weird reason (I'm on v13.0 so I couldn't say for v13.1).
In EXTRAS you got the cache.wipe and the super.wipe of TDJ.
And another thing I think you should know about this device is HOW TO FLASH CORRECTLY.
Here is the way:
Make a backup (optional)
SUPER WIPE (using TDJ tools)
Factory Reset (wipes data/cache/.....)
Install your rom (without GApps)
Reboot phone.
Wait for let's say 10 minutes (optional as well I don't do it but it's recommended... Just reboot, and when you see no bootloop, go back to recovery for next)
Wipe cache/dalvik (without using TDJ but only from recovery touch)
Install gapps.
Reboot.
if you just update your rom, like going from a nightly to another nightly, no need to follow this. Just wipe cache and dalvik using recovery touch, and you are good going.
Cheers!
I'll try it!
Thanks switchfoot! I'll try this today. I'll grab the cache wipe and super wipe as well as upgrade to touch-cwm however i'm a little worried when you say skaters mod made you unable to hard boot, seems risky as that's your last resort if you brick the device (as far as i know). Thank you so much for the steps on flashing, I read so many different ways I was very confused on the proper procedure. I have class today so I probably won't report back till later today but i'll let you know what happens!

My friend here is a flawless recovery with 0 issues if you are worried about the one above TWRP 2.2. Also stay on one site for everything and may I suggest xda only. Do not venture off not that the other sites are issues just that you will confuse yourself although rootzwiki is just as good.
There is plenty of How To's here in xda that you do not need to be confused, confusion comes when you start asking others there opinions and take bits and pieces from all of them... Good luck and feel free to pm me if you need any further help... Just please read up before you do anything
These are the exact instructions from CM on how to install their rom: did you follow these instructions
Installing
How to INSTALL from another ROM (DO NOT SKIP ANY STEPS!):
Be sure to back up your current ROM!
Update your radio to the above recommended version if you have not already done so. (See the list below)
Wipe data/factory reset.
Format /system (mounts and storage->format /system).
Install the CM9 zip from SD card.
Install the gapps zip from SD card.
ONLY IF YOU ARE ON NON-TOUCH CWM RECOVERY: Install darkside-wipe-cache-only.zip (which fixes bootloop due to bad /cache format)
ONLY IF YOU ARE ON TOUCH CWM RECOVERY: Format /cache (mounts and storage->format /cache)
Reboot. Let it sit for a few minutes after the first boot. Be patient.\

Awesome!
Wow that's exactly what i was looking for! Thank you! I just flashed a stock rom to go back to the start. I'll begin the process over again following these steps. The only issue is that the radio update section in the guild no longer exists. Is it ok to go on without the radio update? Or will this cause issues? If so is there a mirror for them?
SOLVED!
OK! I'm all set now. I had to use the full wipe as well as the cache wipe after install and the bootloop was resolved. The bigger headache was when kies failed at updating the firmware so i had to do an emergency firmware flash. Any way i have clockwork, root with SuperSU, cyanogenmod9.1.0, and the latest google apps! Plus its backed up now! YAY! Now i just have to configure it to how i like and we'll be in business! Thanks for all your help guys! I really appericate it!
Last thing
I still need the radio update since the file no longer exists in your link. Everything is good but I don't have any wifi calling or features of that order. Which are important in keeping my usages down and getting coverage in my house and otherwise bad areas. Where do I get this and would I just install it via CWM? Thanks again!
Hey guys, I was playing around on my phone, and I downloaded something off of 4shared (just a game) and it crashed and made my phone freeze. I then held my power button and waited for it to boot but now im stuck in a bootloop with the stock telus rom... is there anything I can do that wont wipe everything on my phone? Oh and I can get into both CWM recovery and download mode.
I gave it some more time to startup and it pretty much factory reseted my phone. I get that thing to setup my phone after startup. Everytime I turn my phone off it goes back to this screen and my phone restarts. If I surf through the files of my phone, it shows I still have everything but It doesnt show any of my apps or anything.
Placed an item in the original topic already, decided to make a seperate one for more attention:
I'm running FXP151 on my Xperia S, with a NovaKernel flashed on top of it. Now I want to update FXP to 201, but the last times I tried flashing a newer version straight on top of the current setup, it will always halt with an error. Which in turn makes the phone unusable until I flash the original boot.img, wipe all data and restore a backup.
What should I do in order to update FXP properly? I've got the feeling that the NovaKernel shouldn't be there when I do, but I'll leave it to the experts.
Thanks in advance!
----
What I do to prevent this from happening again, is flash the FreeXperia Recovery by Bin4ry via fastboot before I update. That recovery seems to work out of the box. After doing the update, I flash Nova back and it boots without issues.

I don't know about any one else but I always had problems flashing zips from nova kernel so just extract fxp kernel from the Rom and install with fxp kernel, then just flash the Rom with out any wipes

Try flashing the update, boot it, wait a bit, then reboot and install the kernel. Wipe dalvik.

Tried flashing 202 over 201 today. Immediately got a "some symlinks failed"-notice and was forced to do a restore onceagain. Without any changed kernels. Gives me an 'error while formatting cache' when restoring, seen that before. It is starting to get on my nerves.
I'm keeping up Titanium backups from now on...
Update: did a dalvik wipe, fixed permissions, tried rebooting and erasing cache multiple times (to no avail), but it managed to boot to the launcher somehow. Can't see why, because the cache is crappy.
Hey there;
Firstly, thanks for your great efforts on the ports of your roms and consistent, useful forum help.
I appreciate that you probably get a load of these threads but I could really use some help with the installation of the ROM, as I've had a load of problems trying to install it.
I am attempting to install the MIUI rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1797515), and I am coming from the original software that comes with the device.
I have an unrooted One V, coming from the base OS and kernel. Currently, I can't get past the Jellybean Android screen (getting stuck on starting apps), and usually I can't even get past the MIUI screen at all. Here are the steps I've taken;
- I downloaded this kernel: boot-TK-USB-201302150054 from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1765687 and flashed it in fastboot, twice.
- Then launch into recovery, follow the instructions on your thread (format all apart from SD), and go ahead and install the .zip.
- Clear Delvik, clear Battery and Fix permissions, then proceed to reboot in an attempt to get in. At this point it hangs on MIUI screen for up to 5 minutes.
- I then try re-flashing the kernel in fastboot again. Still no help.
- I then try and reinstall the .zip from the SD card, and still no improvement.
I imagine I'm doing something very wrong, but I can't work out what it is and it's driving me crazy.
Can you help?!
Thanks in advance, Reasoner.

Okay, I have now attempted to install YOUR version of MIUI, and I'm still not having any luck.
I have;
- Flashed the boot.img using the one you suggest on your thread (twice)
- Booted into Recovery, cleared all caches excluding SD
- installed from .zip in CWM Recovery
- Cleared Delvik
On reboot I still get stuck on the MIUI screen.
