@op, only 'disadvantages' are the drm issues, which you mention, and the inability to update via seus or ota, plus possibly voiding your warranty.
At kormatoes, def sounds like a corrupted file or sumfing ;-) I'm not too tech orientated so try again.
I unlocked my bootloader, have doomlords o/c kernel and loving it. Waiting for cm7 but don't want to lose my camera.

With custom ROMS, the camera in the 2011 Xperia Range doesn't work, might be because the EXMOR R techhnology is not supported by the custom ROMS, at least, that is what I've read over the internet.

can we use it with locked bootloader?
i want to use it but i want to make sure it will make no harm to my arc s..
Be careful man you can **** up your arc by doing this you should unlock the bootloader first and if you worried about warranty it doesnt mean any thing man

if it works with them then it will work for me..
still i am undecided about unlocking my bootloader..
Arcounium 5.5 works fine just tested it on my phone. I almost feel like trying cm7 or miui lol. And you can't have any negative effects you can always use the flashtool or Wotan server to go back.

Ok hey all So i been reading here on xda for some time.
And i have been reading about the development for the our play and the nice progress the devs been doing with ICS.
My phone is a R800i
Baseband: 8x55A-AAABQMAZM-203028D-56
Kernel: 2.6.32.9-perf [email protected]#1
Version: 4.0.2.A.0.42
Locked Bootloader
Not rooted
No sim lock works with all providers never been locked.
I havn't flashed so much phones in my day, some wm mobiles, and iphones and a lg gt540
So i need some help with what to do
I know the first thing is to unlock bootloader
but after that? If some one could point me to the files i need, just the specefic files just for my phone. And a step by step what to do like flash a rom first then kernel or kernel first then rom and if there is any other files i should use before i flash rom/kernel
And if some nice people could give me some hints on the best ICS rom.
I want this either this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1524159
or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1404712
those two seems to the most stable atm. Or if anyone other have suggestions like CM9 or something like that
Cheers!

You said it's sim unlocked, right? If you bought one that isn't carrier locked, you can unlock your bootloader using the guide on the Sony mobile site. After unlocking the bootloader, flash a cwm kernel, and all the possibilities have then been opened.
Seriously though, the guides are easy to find. Google is your friend. Just tell it to search xda specifically.

Hey yea i been reading alot and i think i know now how it all works think i'll wait for some time. People seem to have alot problems with battery drain =/ Seems it can be fixed through Setcpu. And how about the overlock? i did read that some kernel have the phone overclocked to 2.0 ghz. Does it shorten the life of the phone? Not the battery life but the phone's life?
//Virtualxp
Right I have been doing the same read all the Info available and been on the Sony site check to see if I can unlock the boatloader but that's were I have come unstuck as it's saying that I can't unlock my boot loader. Is yours carrier locked? If so, you need to unlock the bootloader with something like omnius or setool.
@virtualxp - Overclocking anything too high will always shorten it's life. Going to 1.4-1.5 ghz shouldn't make a difference, but 2ghz is very high.
For battery drain issues, there are solutions. A lot of people noticed the battery getting worse after the 2.3.4 update, so either they're sticking with older firmware, or mixing builds and kernels.
My phone for example has the 2.3.4 (.42) firmware with a stock kernel from 2.3.3, and a baseband belonging to a separate build altogether. And I managed to combine those without an unlocked bootloader.. Mind you, it was a pain in the ass doing it without getting stuck with boot loop. But this way, I have less battery issues, and I can still use the themes and mods made for the .42 build.

In flashtool, there's an option to exclude the kernel and another for baseband. I flashed one firmware, then flashed another while excluding kernel, and then again while excluding the kernel and baseband, using three different ftf files.
For applying themes and mods without unlocking the bootloader, I used the T.E.A.M. locked bootloader recovery installer, and flashed them with the update.zip files through that recovery. You can get it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1437840

according to sony, official method of unlocking bootloader MAY void warranty.
so it means there are chances that warranty is not void.. can anyone comment on this?
secondly, will i get all the jelly bean features on my xperia s if i use cyanogenmod 10 JB?
like, i have read that sensme, of walkman app, donot work. so, if i use the stock apk of walkman app in the cyanogenmod 10 JB,, then? will it work?

After unlock bootloader, you can't get any OFFICIAL update, fixing from Sony. If you want to use Sensme, I suggest you keep using with locked bootloader. After all, you can root without unlocking it.
Don't worry about JB if you want to unlock bootloader. There will be someone post the ftf file of JB, so you can flash it through flashtool at that time.
If you feel not good after unlocking bootloader and want to relock it with the Sensme features, try this.
Sorry for my bad English.
Ok. Sensme is a feature of walkman application. If I install the walkman apk to cm10 then it should work, because its just an android app?
Secondly, I got something like drmdialoge and drmprovider. What are these? Are these drm keys which arr lost aftr unlockin?

I have sent my Xperia S in for repair after unlocking the bootloader and they returned it saying it had modified software and they wouldn't repair it. I relocked the bootloader and sent it in again and they fixed it. Just my personal experience.

What I recall reading is that not all of the warranty gets voided, but it's still up to the technician who receives your device to recognize if the warranty is still valid or not. Usually if it's a good technician and they find that your device issues aren't related to custom firmware then they honor the warranty.
The safest way to keep your warranty is not to unlock the bootloader.
Just factory reset it and lock it back up before sending it in
Sent from my LT28at using xda app-developers app
Okay, here's the official explanation:
Your warranty is void if the people at the repair center cannot flash a stock ROM onto your device; they don't care about DRM keys or anything else.
They have this Emma-like software, but it only supports locked bootloaders; so, before you send it in, just relock the bootloader (and flash a stock ROM, if possible).
Ohk. Do u know what is drmdialog.apk? And drm provider.apk?

But I'd really like to ask some questions...
Am I losing the warrenty forever, without anyway to get it again? (or i already lose it, since my phone was bought it in April 2012?)
Watching some guide, even not by official way, i have to submit my IMEI code, meaning that I must let sony know that my phone is unlocked?
So even if i reinstall everything, sony will still have a record that i have once unlocked the bootloader??
Is bravia2 working on jellybean with unlock bootloader? (I thought it wont works, some people said it works now in jellybean)
Thank You!!

I editer your post with numbers so the answers are clearer:
1. As far as i know, you still can relock bootloader before taking to any center. In theory, they can only deny warranty if the problem was caused by any hardware or software modifications (for example CPU burn for overclock).
2. In theory, yes. They will know. I am not sure if the service center check that info in their data base.
3. In their DB, yes. But the people at the service center might or might check that.
4. I think that only video...

Hey,
im kinda new to rooting etc. Ive seen several ways to root so far but i donnu which would be best for me.
Im looking mainly for methods to save apps(games) on sd cards, without voiding the warranty, whether it be completely "legal" or reverseable root etc so i would get the warranty back. Also would be awesome if it could run gameboy emulators etc.
It should be a kinda safe to use method(low risk of bootloop etc)
I got atm:
Sony Xperia M
android 4.1.2
modell c1905
build 15.1.A.1.9
Should i update my Android version etc?
Which Android version is better to root etc?
I got some answers for you. Rooting doesn't void your warranty. And yes, you definitely should update to 4.3

I think just rooting your phone will not void warranty, but unlocking bootloader does..
So you can safely root your phone without worries, and then install link2sd or gl2sd to save apps to sdcard...
P.S. - you can also unroot your phone anytime.
ö
I always read rooting does void the warranty.
Is there somewhere a statement from sony about that?
Btw which program etc do u recommend?

And I don't think there is a statement by Sony saying that rooting wouldn't void your warranty otherwise they would be selling rooted phones

Bro don't update your android to 4.3 yet because once you update it, you won't be able to root it without unlocking your bootloader.
First of all you have to root your xperia 4.1.2, here is a video link for rooting http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJ-vQ6nyuiQ&sns=sms if you rooted your xperia m with 4.1.2jelly bean successfully then we will move to the next step that is updating your android to 4.3 with root, here you will find the way http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2709911.
