[Q] EVOlvedROM R3charged RC1 issues - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Runs smoothly but I noticed that when I go to change the default settings in the stock browser from "mobile" to being able to see the actual webpage, the new setting doesn't go into effect. Even after a reboot. Same thing with the calendar. I want it to open up on "month". I change the setting but still opens in "agenda". Any suggestions? I don't wanna reflash again. At least for a while.

Haven't noticed this issues. I've been running the ROM for a few days now. Try to wipe Cache and Dalvik a couple times and reboot. See if that helps.

I did that. Even did a goal new flash. Nandroid. Wipe. And then reinstalled it. I got rid of the original calendar and replaced it with the HTC stock one. So problem solved there. But I still can't change the "mobile" versions of the web pages. Annoying!

Stock browser and mobile data issues on 2.3.3

For some reason, randomly my mobile data will turn off. Luckily, I threw a widget on another page. I have to turn it off then back on to get it to connect again. Minor annoyance.
The other issue is after using the new browser since Friday GB release. It works fine for awhile, then it acts up. It will no longer stay open, acting like a memory free-up is kicking it off. I will open it, it will load google as the homepage, and immediately kill the app. No task killers or any of that garbage. To fix, it needs a full reboot. Any way I could do a bug monitoring on the phone?
Rooted. I used the manual rooted 2.3.3 odexed stock rom that was here, and flashed the radios all using clockwork.

Wiping the browser data fixed it. Not sure what happened.

i'm having the same issue with the stock browser on my unrooted evo 4g. the app opens, and just before my homepage (google.com) fully loads, the app crashes. rebooting did not solve the problem for me. i'm not sure how to wipe the browser data. any suggestions?
thanks in advance.
Menu -> settings -> applications -> manage applications -> all -> internet -> clear data.
You WILL lose all bookmarks, passwords, history, etc etc.

Browser keeps crashing

Since the update from htc a few weeks ago or whatever, the www browser crashes all the time. Never had problems before the update. This is not, use another browser so please don't do that.
Tanks.

Try going to menu - settings - applications - manage applications - all tab - internet, and hit force stop. Then clear data and cache. Reboot and see if that fixes it.
No go. Not fixed. Crashes randomly quite a bit.

What are your phone specs? (ROM, kernel, radio, etc...)
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
And what exactly do you mean by crash? does the browser freeze? does it force close? does the phone reboot?
I have always found the browser to be somewhat finicky (a whole bunch of ROMs, froyo and gingerbread). But, the broswer was made to be (very) lightweight, as is the whole system on a phone, so I expect some difficulties with heavy content and poorly built pages. The browser will slow way way down when dealing with pages with many embedded videos, ads, and such.
My most common issue with the browser is it freezes with a half-loaded page (except CM 7.1 which FC'd all the time). Most all of my browser problems seem to do with not maintaining a solid connection to Verizon.
Things normally work if I do the one or some of the following...
1. ensure good connection to network (move to someplace with stronger signal)
2. restart browser
3. clear cache, history, then restart browser
4. do steps 1,2,3 and then reboot phone (usually not necessary)
There isn't anything the browser can do if Verizon isn't getting the data to the phone, which seems like the most common issue for me.
Browser just disappears and on any page. Cache, restart nothing helps. It can go to any page and just disappear. I can open right away and then it's fine. Other times I can be at a page for a minute then browser disappears. It's extremely buggy unstable pos since the update to 2.3 long ago.

I assume that means you are not rooted and still s-on. Without being rooted your options for fixing or trouble shooting are very limited. Really your only options would be to do a factory reset, and if that dosent work, an ruu.
OK. I've done reset before and didn't help.
What's ruu?
Is there way to root my phone from itself not hooking it up to a pc?

An ruu is a pure stock image direct from htc. It is what htc uses to originaly program the phone for the first time. Download the Gingerbread PB31IMG.zip and flash it thru hboot. You can find the ruu here http://pvillecomp.com/?page_id=22. And instructions on how to flash it here http://pvillecomp.com/?page_id=79.

Gtalk force close on account settings

So yesterday I was messing around with my brand new non rooted and in mooded GN and when I was changing some settings (can't remember exactly what was it) the app force close and every time I try to get in the account settings in the gtalk app it FC.
For test sake I added a second google account and I can get in the account settings w/o FC, but once I try to get in account settings on my main account it FC again.
I tried cleaning cache, disableling the app and reenable it. Didn't tried formatting the phone to factory settings yet, but Im tryng to avoid that for now. Any ideas or suggestions?
Thx

I'd just wipe it. Probably easier that way.
Sent from my HTC Sensation using Tapatalk
I was in a trip so I couldn't just wipe out so I keep trying everything I knew to clear whatever settings was causing the fc without success.
So when I was able I did a complete wipe out and now is working. One thing it happened that I kind of expected is that unlike the Nexus S that have MSD when I resseted the device I lost all photos and videos and w/e o had on the virtual sdcard.

Why do my gapps keep force closing?

Why? Happens randomly... and frequently... one is usually followed by several in short succession, and then it will stop and go away until the next out burst of gapps force closing comes along...?

May be u need to flash gapps again?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Its the gapps that came with the phone though...? Why would I have to re flash gapps on a stock ROM..?

Same issue here with mine, not rooted, all stock, gapps keeps crashing constantly when trying to use web browser or certain other features included with the phone. Annoying.
Not interested in rooting or flashing anything until development gets a bit more stable.
I had this problem on my og galaxy nexus, clearing data from the phone/contacts apk fixed it. Not sure if it applies here but it's worked for me in the past.

In my experience it is a problem with sync internet. Clear all the data from whatever browser you use and it should stop

It does it to me too all the time and seems random. Didn't think much of it because it happened on the touch pad running cm9. I assumed it was just an android thing. So this isn't normal?

settings -> apps -> all apps.
go to each gapp in the list and force stop, clear data & clear cache. reboot.
if that doesn't help, flash a custom recovery, clear cache and dalvik. fix permissions. reboot.
just suggestions.
Back up everything to Google and try a hard reset maybe?

Yea, I have a custom Recovery so I guess I will try to wipe cache and davlick and fix permissions see if that works other wise, I guess a hard reset is what imma have to do, even thought I don't want to ...that **** piss me off

Clearing the Chrome data worked for my phone...thanks.
A little late to the party on this but the only fix I found that worked was to deselect syncing of Google interne data (unmodded ATT GS3).
gapps forceclose issue
Same situation. SGH999 Galaxy S3. Why is this an issue?
I also do not want to deal with factory reset, wiping apps, etc.
Basically, taking phone off sync... NO F/C at all. Slide tab to SYNC,
F/C EVERY SECOND. I took screen shots, thinking this is so unreal.
There must be an inherent issue with Samsung & Google not playing nicely together this time.
This is my 2nd phone BEHAVING the SAME. TMobile not helpful. In Another thread, they contacted the
President of Samsung for overheating & excessive battery drain. He was sent a new phone, but will end
up with the same problems. I really thought this phone was going to be the shizne...

This seems to be Talk crashing. I get the same FC message. I have to login manually to get Talk online again. Anyone else notice that?

[Q] SOLVED-Apps not gone after flash?!

Ever since I've started flashing ROMs, I've become accustomed to jumping on the market and re-installing all the apps that were deleted during the wipe process. No problem really, I like the idea of a fresh install. However, oddly enough, since flashing Ev1lArt's Wicked v7 and now his JB v3 Roms, the apps from the store persist. Third party apks are still in my downloads and I can re-install them, but the ones from the market instantly start downloading and updating once the phone is done booting up.
On one hand, I think it's fantastic! No more searching the store for all the apps I want.
On the other hand I'm concerned this is an indication of something gone wrong.
If anybody has any insight, I'd be very grateful. Thanks!
Edit: Another question/afterthought. When I went from Wicked v7 (ICS) to v3 (JB) I used Odin and the root66 tar for a clean JB install. I was under the impression partitions would be re-allocated during this process, but there was no PIT file and the instructions are very clear about which boxes to check (ie, don't check re-partition). Am I missing something? Are PIT files not necessary going from ICS to JB? Also interesting to note, when I booted up after ODIN, my apps, wallpapers, Nova Launcher setup etc were all still there. I thought the point of doing a fresh ODIN install was to get the phone to an "out of the box" condition.
Am I just a worry wort? Should I just be happy that some Android magic has saved me some hassle? Thanks again.
Google is supposed to back up what was on your phone and then red download it (restore) from the play store. Downloads always stay, unless you wipe it.
When you say "wipe it", do you mean wipe data/factory reset in recovery? Cuz I always do that.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
That doesn't wipe storage/sdcard. The folders you see when you plug into a computer. Uninstalling apps also doesn't delete those folders
On some roms when you flash on the locations setup screen it will ask if you want to restore your apps from google play...if you leave it checked it well immediately start downloading your apps based off your google account...
Googles backs your data up always when flashing a new rom fireup the play store and go throught the log in thingy there will be an option that you can tick it says "keep my phone backed up whit google" simply untick and voila... its no issue at all trust me

If you are a little paranoid and want a true clean install, wipe system in recovery before you install your preferred rom. The Google restore had been hit and miss for me over the years so I stopped checking the box and relied on titanium backup. Sounds like it is working better now.
