[Q] Are themes really modem-specific? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Are themes really modem-specific? i.e. can i flash a EC05 theme (a theme with [EC05] in the title...) to my EH06 modem/ROM without issue?

Well, not a rom. Like you can't flash an EC05 theme on an EH06 rom. But, I don't think it matters what modem you are on.
Posted by Mr. Z's Epic 4G.

Im pretty sure its only based on whether you are on a froyo or gb rom as zander said. Modem itself wont matter. But if theme says eh, ef, or eg its referring to a gb based rom. All those themes should (not 100% but) be interchangable as they are all gb based. If its an ec theme its froyo based and will not work on a gb based rom. So its not the modem but the software version that matters.

ee and ef themes will not work properly on eg or eh builds or vice vera. Eg and eh should be interchangable wth eachother.

Be sure you are understanding the difference between Modem and ROM. I am running RandomRom 2.2.1 Plus, which is an EC05 Based ROM, however I am running the EH06 modem (which was odined after I flashed the ROM). In my scenario, I can use any EC05 (Froyo) based theme. Hope that helps

modem relation to ROM?

I'm sure this is a stupid question, but I'd like to be sure.
You can only use a ROM that was made for your modem, as in EC05 or EG22 or any of the others, correct?
You can use any modem for any Rom from my understanding
Ex. I used to use ee03 modem for a ef02 Rom for better battery life

[ROM][EF02][Compkid23] **URBAN INCEPTION 1.1 07/01/11*RELEASED*
Here's an example of a ROM post....what does the EF02 mean?
Ef02 is the build number for epic firmwares
Ef02(gingerbread v2.3.3)
Ec05(froyo v2.2)
The newest firmware is EG22, which is gingerbread v2.3.4
The rom example you just posted is a gingerbread rom

If I'm not mistaken the 2.1 modems aren't to be used with 2.2 and 2.3 builds. For Froyo and Gingerbread DK28 and anything that starts with an E is safe to use.

Ei22

I can't update I am currenty on ec05 I see it in the android updates but the download won.t work it says dowbload failed 8I'm on syndic, ate rom 1.2

There is instructions on the development section. I'd link you but I'm on my epic, away from a computer.... you are going to have to search the threads for upgrading to ei22 from a rooted froyo rom, its easy though.

Why bother with the OTA? It breaks recovery. Just flash an EI22 ROM. Flash the EC05 to EI22 modem delta if you want that.
Do you have a stock one you recommend? I am looking for as close to what sprint has released as I can. I found the modem, just need the rest of gingerbread now.

Clean GB would be basic. I think the links are still up for the ACS deodexed ROM stock from the OTA. It basically had the GPS fix in it. I am on Legendary 4.01 and it is awesome.

Kinda want to stick with touchwiz (yes I know I am a gluton for punishment). So if I want 2.3 I get this feeling I am going to have to learn this ROM world. Yay...

If you mean you can flash a GB ROM from EC05 then yes or if you mean the EC05 modem works on GB ROMs then also yes. There is a EC05toEI22 modem delta flashable in the Development forum stickies.
Found what I needed from kennyglass 123
One click roots do not work on Gingerbread. It would have been easier to flash a GB prerooted ROM while still on Froyo like this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...=deodexed+EI22
Now that she did the OTA you will need to follow this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...=root+OTA+EI22
I got gingerbread loaded I will look into the modem and the gps fixs later.
Thanks guys for your help!

[Q] Theming Issues

Its beena while since ive been on here and need just a little help. I'm Trying to run the EL30 SleeperROM and want to change the theme to the EL30 Rebirth v1.1 or 1.2 theme. here's the link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1575303
I tried and it just froze up I know i screwed something up, haha.. but just need a little nudge in the right direction because i want this theme. What rom is compatible with this theme? thanks.
Sleeper rom is odexed so a theme won't work on it. You can use pretty much any other rom as long as its deodexed then flash the theme. I recommend EL30 Clean GB

If you are dead set on sleeper rom I believe he has a deodexed version available also.. ask in that thread someone will point you to it... if he doesn't have a deodexed version you can deodex it yourself, there are great guides, just google it... if your not set on keeping sleeper rom just flash any other el30 rom and then flash the theme

[Q] How can I upgrade to ginger bread via the phone?

My brother started using my old epic and it is running a rooted froyo EC05, is there an easy way to upgrade to stock rooted gingerbread right from the phone?
Yes. Upgrade to CWM.5.0.2.7 in Development roll up sticky thread and flash a GB ROM also found in development subforum.

There is a straight up stock prerooted FC09 deodexed which means it has the odex files combined into the jar and apk files to make it easier for modding and themeing.

How do you update to the latest build or baseband number?

New E4GT user here. I'm rooted and on EL29, what is the latest build or baseband number and how do you update to it?
I want to update to Jelly Bean, but I understanding that with this phone, you can't just flash any ROM you want, correct? It has to "match" your build or baseband number?

Latest "Official" OTA Thread by RWilco - No root and rooted links.
Latest stock Leak thread by RWilco Best stock leak imo..
As far as JB builds go, my only suggestion is to read each thread of the rom that interests you in it's entirety. Mixed reviews and different issues, different ways of flashing.. etc..
baseband = modem - mix and match to find the best performance for you and your phone. You can run a ICS generation modem on a GB build, and vice versa.
Check out the op in the Modem Repository by RWilco. How to flash and all the links provieded there.
Build and kernel match (usually) based on the rom. Just follow the Op's instructions on the rom thread. read for any issues etc.
Thanks for the great info!
So, when I flash a new ROM, does it comes with a matching kernel and baseband? I'm still a bit confusing about that.
Most or all Roms come with kernel, some, if you use Odin will include modem. I usually double check and flash the modem that I want via cwm...
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
Depending on the dev of the rom.
Yes, most include a kernel in a custom rom since it is the easiest way to keep what they build to an error free environment.
You may find a custom "rom only" but that is rare.
Stock roms (vendor leaked or "official" ) you will find complete sets in one clicks and tars. Then, usually, you will find it in separate pieces in the reference section. In Rwilcos posts, they are found in post 2.
With your goal of going to JB, you dont have to go to the latest stock.
You can go to a custom recovery, like el26 cwm or a safe Agat recovery, and try out a JB build. There are several good ones in the dev section.

I'm on PA2.1 and its definitely daily driver worthy idk what JB roms you've seen that aren't. Everything I'm PA works like it should and its based off of sbrissens aosp and phantomphreaks cm10 vendor trees. Which would make both of those roms just as stable if not more so than PA, and aokp JB is based off the same vendor trees so it should be just as good.
We are legion, for we are many.

Remember to just keep it simple, "New E4GT user here" you should sample some ics and see how that works for you and understand how to go back to your "original state"before you go into jb territory being that ics thought not perfect yet has more stability than jb at the present. Like Mo said read and reread before you take the plunge.

I've been using PhantonPfreek's CM10 ROM for a week now. While not perfect yet, it is a Daily Driver. Most of the major bugs have been handled. currently Bluetooth and headset volune is a problem. This ROM is very close to becoming an official CM rom according to Phantom. i came over from AOKP Mil6. This ROM is its equal. Of course JB features added icing to the cake. I'd say have at it. just make sure that you are on a safe kernal to flash from.
