[Q] [app] App to record streaming audio? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I'm looking for an app that will record streaming audio I'm playing on my phone, right from my phone. I know there are things out there for PCs that will record whatever is on the sound card, which is awesome, but I'm looking to do it from my phone as well. Anyone know of anything out there like this?

But this isn't going to be from radio stations, this will be like podcasts of sorts. Think it'll still work?

So, if I may ask, what are you trying to record? Do you want something that will record regardless of what app you are listening to like Wunderradio, IHeart, etc? If something like that exists, I want it too.

Basically buying talk CDs online and I can stream them right there from the site by hitting the Play button. It will open up a player (I'm doing this from the web, I use Miren browser) and start playing. It's great, so long as I have an active internet connection, but I'm hoping I can have it save the stream as an mp3 file.
I know there are apps for PCs which will record whatever is going through the sound card, which is perfect for this, but I wasn't sure if that is an option with the phone.
If not, no big deal, I can do it on my PC when I get home, but would be nice to be able to do it from either.

Does anyone know where the recorded audio gets stored on the mobile device? I would like to be able access it outside of the app.
Thanks

Most likely in /data/data/appname/

ESPN Radio App - Wont connect

I am having a problem with the ESPN Radio App. The app opens and I am able to listen to the podcasts and sportscenter but it will not connect to any of the stations. It shows the circular arrows and says connecting but after a few seconds, it just fails and a square "stop" appears.
Is anyone else having this issue?
I am running Fresh 3 (froyo 2.2) with the updated radios.
Any help is appreciated.
thanks
My guess is Fresh did the poor AAC streaming performance fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=737111 Do the "test" in Post 13 and see if it doesn't say "false".
I did so manually with another rom and found that (in my case) Yahoo Music Radio would not stream. Once I undid the fix, it streamed no problems.
Strictly conjecture: the newer apps (Yahoo, ESPN, etc.) made adjustments to the Froyo changes. Thus, maybe the "fix" actually broke the new apps. Pandora, on the other hand, hasn't updated in quite a while.
I have only tested it on Yahoo but that is my conclusion.
Thanks... I was able to connect to ESPN live streams if I am connected to wifi. So i guess it is only unable to connect with I am on sprint 3g/4g.
Does that help?
I will try the test later... I am unable to do it right now because I am not at home.
thanks
Any help out there? Also Pandora works fine.

My espn radio app works fine after the 2.2 update. But now after the 2.2 update you dont need the app anymore. Just go to espnradio.com and launch the player..with the new flash upgrade the player works just like it does on a regular computer.
Yea but if you put the browser in tbe background, it stops. Mine is still not working. Here's hoping for a fix.

I would recommend checking out this suggestion. I was unable to stream any radio stations although pandora worked fine. I checked and confirmed that this fix was in fact applied on the ROM. I removed the fix and I am now able to stream my radio stations again without using Wifi. The apps I'm using are Cherry rplayer and also iheartradio. HTH and to the original poster I quoted, thanks.

I dont think the evo can stream everything as of yet. Mostly videos, music, and pictures that are on the sd card. Could be wrong though.

Because Sprint's 3G is terrible...
Loving the EVO but compared to my buddies on Verizon our 3g is awful.
4G doesn't do much good for most of us.
Ugh... I will give sprint another 6 months to see if they can really come through.
On a related note, I was able to stream youtube through the HDMI on 2.1... don't know about 2.2 b/c I'm on CM6 (no way I'm going with the official froyo since I don't have 4g in NY)
I stream from iPhonemoviez.net through hdmi on 3g regularly, but its with the pop up streaming media player. The other website is flash and it doesnt give me the option to choose player because its embedded I guess. Just thought there might me a fix.

Subsonic

I am not sure if anybody is aware of this app but IMO it is one of the best apps out there and takes advantage of the "4G" speeds of the G2. Stream your entire music collection to your phone (you can also download it directly for offline listening) or to any computer you want. I have been using this since I got my G2 and it is a very very cool app.

Thanks for the post...now that I can stream my entire iTunes library the G2 experience just got a whole lot better.

Ill try it out
I like it...it's much slicker than SkyTunes, in my opinion. It also doesn't have the "stuttering when not in the app" problem that SkyTunes does (as I imagine the Android app is native).
Skytunes has potential as adobe air apps mature. Especially when air goes out on iphone (advantage of air, write once for many platforms).
If anyone has problems make sure you read the website. Most problems come from port forwarding.
I always wanted a huge microsd card. My current size of my mp3 collection is roughly 55gbs and dreamed of the day that I could carry all my music. Never have to worry about that again.
And with google getting into doing this very thing this app/service does... watch out.

I don't mean to diss SkyTunes too much, but it still feels really unfinished. I had no problems forwarding the port myself (something that I know Subsonic can do for you with uPnP, though), and I read that the update may help with the audio stuttering. That's definite progress, but Subsonic feels much more finished already.
Do any of you know what I have to do to stream music from my comp over 3g? I can stream over my wifi but on regular cell data it just trys to connect then fails.
You are going to have to look at your router settings and forward the port to your computer most likely.

I've been using this for quite some time, I tweaked the settings to even allow me to stream movies from my server as well.
I uninstalled the app because though I entered the server name, I could not get info on what username/password to use.

Share Your Music, What's Your Station?

I have a paid slacker radio subscription. I couldn't be happier with it. Caching is awesome. Thought I'd make a thread sharing my custom station. It's awesome if you like bands like 3 doors down, Creed, Default, Shinedown, Seether, Puddle of mud, Chevelle, and Breaking Benjamin.
Here's the link http://slacker.com/r/00VYn
I like all kinds of music. Pandora or Slacker. What's Yours?
I also have a paid slacker account, my fav is Rise Against Radio...

Also, what is this caching you speak of? I've seen it on the app, but never used it since I dunno what it does...
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
You download hours worth of music from any station of your choose for offline listening. When offline listening you don't need a data connection and you save tons on battery because you're not pushing anything through your data connections because the music has been downloaded. If you have a paid account you can cache 25 station. Be warned it takes a long time to cache stations, so only do it when you go to bed. Just leave it downloading, I usually only do 3-5 stations. I also found it helpful to go into settings and not allow the device to update by itself when it hits a wifi connection.
Another thing is go to menu>setting>wireless & networks>wi-fi setting>menu>advance>wifi-sleep police>never>and then the home button. This now makes so your wifi connection doesn't cut off when the screen is off. You're caching doesn't get interrupted when the screen is off.
It's an awesome feature. Try it.
OP question on the caching. How many songs does it cache? Also, how long does it stay on your phone (expire?). Sounds very interesting and I would lean towards getting it if it works out how I think it does.
I've already done the wifi sleep thing, I hated that it would shut off...
Thatnks for the info on the caching, I never noticed it in the menu options...I mostly use slacker at work so this will be very useful.

I dont know for sure ive read 100 songs per station. You get to cache 25 stations. Only 4.99 a month. I've only cached 1 set of stations on my g2 music device which is not my phone and I've never had to change the songs out again so I'm pretty sure it saves 100 songs per station. You get it for free 14 day if you wanna test it out.

Actually its only 3.99 a month...atleast that's what I get charged.

I tried slacker(paid) twice on my nexus one. The first time, was for a long trip down a truck route(less traffic and construction) to georgia. The second time was for a trip down to visit my wife's friend in myrtle beach.
First time: It worked well. Caching worked great. It never stopped playing the whole time. 14+ hours and it didn't stop.
Second time: It didn't work right. It wouldn't load songs. It kept skipping ahead on it's own. Caching didn't seem to work.
Even though it worked well the first time, I found that it's selections weren't nearly as accurate as pandora. I'd pick music by lil wayne, and a couple songs in it would start playing lady gaga and mariah carrey. Nothing against the two artists, but the genres don't exactly mix. In my opinion, if pandora were to incorporate caching(they've said they will not), it would be the perfect app.
I'm going to revisit slacker on my g2 and hopefully get some new results.

Make sure when your start the caching of stations your phones signal is strong and uninterrupted. Calls don't affect the WiFi signal. That may be causing it to freeze or skip. When making custom station slacker gives you a very long list of artist / bands for you to determine which to play and which not to play You also have the option to ban artist from your station... no more lady gaga.

lol no one uses last.fm anymore?
I can't get cache stations to work anymore, not sure if it was the recent Slacker app update or the G2 OTA Update. Anyone else having problems? I tried uninstalling and reinstall, but no help! I'm pissed, it was working great!

Try uninstalling the app then go into your sdcard and delete the slacker folder. Then reboot your device and do a clean install of the app, not a backed up version. It should work. Try it and let us know.
I did everything you suggested twice but still no Cache play. Finally I reinstalled a 3rd time and then I cached & refreshed 1 station over the mobile network instead of over WiFi. Right now everything seems to be working okay. I'm gonna slowly add more stations and see what happens. I'll keep you informed.
Gonna try Slacker again...
I used to use it on my MT3G and it used to stall a lot...I then started using Pandora and that worked great until recently (maybe past 4-5 months) it contantly skips songs when playing from my phone.
My music is quite diverse
Station 1: Tool, STP, Alice in Chains, Breaking Benjamin, Chevelle, Linkin Park, etc...
Station 2: Dropkick Murpheys, Flogging Molly, Enter the Hagis, Young Dubliners, The Cranberries, etc...
Station 3: Hank Williams Sr, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Patsy Cline, Willy Nelson, Elvis, etc...
Station 4: Lifehouse, Kutless, Thousand Foot Krutch, Haste the Day, Red, etc...
I will post my stations later this evening when I get home

ESPN Radio App

i have this app and havent used it in a while, i tried to listen today and noticed that app loads but the radio wont stream. when i tap the screen to load it, it buffers and then displays the big white square for stopping. i am running CM7. does anyone know of a fix or having the same issue??
i read online that if i connected to wifi it would work and then if i turned off wifi it would still stream from 3/4g but i dont have a wifi connection here and that kind of defeats the purpose when trying to listen on the road.
i guess its broken on GB, podcast still work though.
sounds like your hosts file is interupting. Do you have adfree installed? If so, in the app hit "revert"

Yes I do have adfree installed.let me try hitting the revert button.
Edit: I hit revert but I still get the same issue with the espn app...

Same issue for me...I was pretty disappointed in this app, especially when I realized TuneIn Radio has my local espn station and several others, while all the podcasts are free anyways on listen or online haha.
