[Q] iphone media headphones work with EVO? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

sorry for bringing in any iWord but i was wondering if the media headphones with the volume controls and mic would work with the Evo. I know the mic will and the center button to answer or hang up.. but are there any functions like holding to get voice dial or double click to next track? these would be extremely convenient for the gym and they look pretty good... gotta admit.
THANKS

Music Player / Answer Calls

I've been playing with my Defy for a while, and I've not found any Mp3Player that can do play/pause/next with the included headset AND ALSO answer calls when they come in with the same button.
I used to have a Nokia 5800 which had an awesome headset with play|pause|next|previous|stop|answercall buttons.
I've been unable to find something like that for Defy (android really), is this an "issue" or does it have a solution?
Thanks in advance to whoever helps
Can't say for sure they work as mine haven't arrived yet but Zagg Smartbuds are suppose to be able to do that using multiple presses and long presses & an analog volume control

Thanks for the answer, can you post your results when you receive them?
It's funny cause MY headset on a Galaxy S with Winamp configured exactly the same, actually goes to the next song with double press, but not in my defy.
Hope yours work fine =) I want to be able to at least skip songs and also answer/hang up from the headset=)
Got my ZaggSmartBuds today and had a chance to play with them. At 1st I wasn't real happy with them as all I could do was pause the misic and if I did anything else like long press or double press it would open up the other players I had installed. So I started gettting rid of them one my one, I had Mixing, Songbird, & Tunewiki, plus the stock music app.
I don't remember which one I think it was Tunewiki with nothing else installed when you douple clicked or long clicked it would bring up the voice command app. Didn't try answering the phone as it didn't work the music apps well. Un-install all of those and installed PowerAmp and now I can answer the phone, music pauses when the call come in, answered it by pressing the button on the headset. Music returns at the end of the call when the party hangs up or you press the button again.
Long press and it will skip the playing song and go to the next one. There are some options in PowerAmp to set the button to Double/Triple click, so you can go forward or reverse didn't try that option.
The SmartBuds came with 2 sizes for foam ear pieces and 3 sizes or silcone ear pieces with a nice little hard shell zipper case to carry them in. I liked the volume control inline even though it was analog I didn't have to adjust the volume on the phone from it's normal setting yet I could still adjust the volume or mute it. I didn't have to turn the volume down for the call as it was to loud but was able to do that with the inline control. The buds have amazing sound. It takes a little practice to inset the buds in my ears as they are angled once I got the hang of it they slipped right in.
Hope that answered your question
Hi,
As gramps50 wrote above, with PowerAmp you can set up in the option to : play or stop the music with the handset button, when a call is coming, the music stops and you can answer with the same button. When you finish your call, the music restarts automatically.

Thanks both for the input.
I'll give that a try. It still amazes me that a BASIC functionality like the Nokia headsets include, does not seem to be available on this phone! it's really weird!
App called Handset Button Controller maybe help you.
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
thanks! i've used poweramp and it worked fine=)

Fix the Volume control...

OMG.... I have missed a number of calls due to this stupid bug. A goddamn smartphone in 2011 does not have a seperate volume control for the ringtone... wtf? I dont care about copy-paste, multitasking or quad core proccys but plz MS just fix this fcuking bug. This is the only issue on my Samsung Focus that bugs the hell out of me.
//end of rant
How is that a bug? Its more of a missing feature... One that doesn't require you to get so upset over... And it's your own fault for missing the calls, knowing the phone doesn't have the separate volume control you should be more attentive to your volume because I definitely don't have this problem.
I agree with the OP. There is no excuse for not having separate volume controls. It's easy to miss calls or other important events because of it.
Yes but when you use your phone for gaming and listening to music this IS a problem. I have to reduce the volume when using my in-ear headphones and I always remember to increase it after taking them off but the times when I forget to do this, its a real pain to hear your friends scream at you for not picking up their calls on time.
And these are the same friends who I am trying to convince into buying a WP7 instead of an iPhone/Android, so yes it is frustrating.
The least MS can do is have independent settings for headphones and the speaker phone, this way when you do take out your headphones it reverts back.
While yes, I would prefer different volume controls, I stand by my statement, its your fault. This isn't a bug that needs to be fixed, it's a feature request. I listen to music on my phone all day long as well... But I'm on top of my volume controls... And I do agree separate controls would make it easier... And if your friends scream at you because you need to return a call 5 minutes later, maybe you need new friends.

lol... yeah I will need new friends if MS does not fix this sooner
But seriously dude it is a real pain and a required feature. I agree its not a bug but a cell phone does need to have an independent ringer volume so yeah its kinda a required feature. Its not a problem when you have your phone with you but if you are at home during weekends/holidays/nights its a big deal.
I fully agree with OP. The way volume control is implemented (or rather not implemented at all) is Embarrassing. There is quite a number of other really basic features or settings missing from WP 7. I can only wonder why they care so much with delivering copy and paste before bringing basic stuff like proper volume control, speed dial et c.
I would suggest trying an application called Media Volume Settings. This allows control over the media volume seperate from the ringger volume.

I will. I tried that app early on and found it to be useless for conveniently controlling the volume. Once you have the volume, in-app, set and go to your media, it seems to be fine. But once you alter the built-in volume, it screws with the volume app and seems to bypass it. You always have to go to the volume app to make any changes...in a game or music, leave game or music to open volume app to change volume. Then go back to game or music. Find the music or game still just not at the right volume? Go back to volume app, slightly change it, go back to music or game and analyze.
The app doesn't integrate well.
I agree with OP! I also have a problem where if I play a game and I try to listen to music after wards the music is very low even at max only after I turn the phone on and off does it revert back to normal
I agree that it is not the best solution but it atleast gives you the option of having the ring tone up load enough to hear without blasting all forms of media.

This can be solved by using Media Volume Settings in the Marketplace. It has a fully functional free ad-supported version. Have you even read this thread? It's literally only 2 pages.

have you tried "Media Volume Setting" in the marketplace?
App is not a solution
I agree with OP, this is an incredibly frustrating problem.
Unfortunately, it is consistent with the rest of the OS, i.e. *completely dumbed down*.
I listen to podcasts before I sleep most evenings. I like to listen with the volume on 1.
However, I always have to try and remember to turn it back up to a high setting so that I can hear my alarm (assuming it sounds, that is... but that's another story).

It's not his fault. The phone really should offer different volume controls for media and the phone ringer. I agree it's just not logical to have both in the same area, especially since the phone really foroces you to use headsets for so much stuff (notwithstanding the fact that sound quality on HTC phones are terrible, but FM Radio will not work without a headset, EQ is required to make some music sound decent, and that requires a headset, among other things). Sorry, but only a dumb person, or one hard of hearing, would have their phone blasting at near max volume in their ears.
When the phone is playing media, it the volume controls should be for media only - not the ringer.
It's Microsoft's fault. They went out of their way to put as few settings into the OS as possible. You'd think a company that has been maintaining a smartphone OS for at least a decade would at least have the basics down by now.
And no, he doesn't need new friends. A call can be an emergency, and in an emergency sometimes you don't have 5 minutes to return the call. You need to hear the phone ringing, and take that call.
Imagine someone from the school calling you about your child and you return the call 5 minutes later and say "LOL sorry I didn't hear my ringer, was listening to some Podcasts and forgot to put the Volume back up."
It's embarassing, clunkly, illogical, and just a ****ty way to implement this.
Agreed also about needing to have separate volume controls. Right now I keep my phone on vibrate and that helps to minimize the issue but hopefully MS adds this feature later.

[Q] klipsch S4i mic not working with Epic 4G, Is there any way?

Ok so I took the risk to buy Klipsch S4i for my Epic 4G with Mic/remote control even though it was meant for iphone/ipod..etc. I read it works with samsung momment so I gave it a shot.
Go figure none of the Play/skip/volume controls work. However I thought at LEAST the mic would work when answering calls (W/ middle button) that's all I cared for, but It DOESN'T
When I hit the middle button it goes to Epic 4G's "Log" (Recent/missed calls) hit it again and it redials last #. However mic doesn't work when speaking at all. Hit the middle button during call, and it hangs up. Hold the middle button and it goes to voice dialer but nothing can be heard since mic doesn't work.
Is there anyway for the microphone to work at least? How does it work with samsung momment, don't they have similar drivers since its samsung??
Also Poweramp has headphones option to enable skipping songs, but not even that works
Again, is there any possible way to get any of the controls/Mic working with the Epic 4G? Anything to install software side or is it straight hardware problem?
Thanks in advance

[Q] Wired headset recommendation

I'm looking for a wired headset with a mute button. I'll mostly be using it for conference calls when I work from home. I've listened to a lot of punk music way to loud so the sound quality doesn't have to be amazing. The main thing I would like is a mute button. I had a pair that said it had a mute button but it never worked. Thanks.
This should be in the accessories section but all skullcandy phone stlyle headphones for like $30 I have bought have a volume slider that goes all the way down.

Oh, thats really sad for me. I should have done proper research before getting these headphones. :crying:
Felt, there could be some software, which could help me use the volume buttons. Sad, money went in vain............
