Hi Guys!
For some reason, when I go to ABOUT PHONE --> and software update, it says my phone (Verizon Sony Ericsson Xperia Play R800x) is updated and no more updates detected. I'm on 2.3.3 right now..
Not rooted.
Thanks for any help!

I have my Xperia Arc (LT15a Rogers) running the LT15i Generic World (4.0.2.A.0.62) ROM, and with the imminent update to ICS 4.0.4 soon, I'm wondering how the update will work for my device.
Will running a different ROM from what it originally came with (Rogers-branded LT15a) affect my updating process? Or is it all dependent on the SI number under the battery? Also, is the update supposed to be OTA, or available through SEUS or something?
Can someone please help me? =S

Your phone only checks for updates for the version currently running on your phone. That aside, why would you wait for Rogers to release it when it likely won't be directly root-able (and since I assume you have a carrier-branded device, you can't unlock your bootloader except through the paid method to root) and won't be out for weeks.
The LT15a generic America ROM was released a few days ago, bloat-free and root-able. Use that.
(On a separate note, OTA is only for incremental updates. i.e. 2.x.x to 2.x.y, 2.k.m to 2.k.n, 4.0.w to 4.0.v, etc. Major updates between versions must be done through PC Companion.)

Hi,
Can anyone provide any more information on my situation?
I'm got a stock firmware 4.0.3 on my HOX and was wondering if i update to the latest OTA for my carrier / phone. Can I still have that possibility to root if I need to in the future and is it difficult to do so or not?
Yes . And it's the same way to root it . Not difficult .

noobie question - after rooting, how do i get the latest "unbloated" version ?
noobie question -
So I finally rooted my phone today because I got sick of looking at all the AT&T Bloatware (and also being unable to update my phone since I use it on t-mobile)
after rooting, how do i get the latest "unbloated" software version ? 4.4.4 please, no lollipop until they fix all the bugs.
Can someone direct me to a step by step process of putting (flashing?) the official HTC software (ROM?)
Thanks

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think 5.0 is official and fully working on Sprint. I thought that's what the newer Verizon 5.0 Sense custom ROMs were based on. I'm on Verizon so I don't go milling about the Sprint forum, but I'd imagine there'd be a debloated stock or lightly modified ROM out there. If you're just unlocked and not s-off you'd need to flash the boot.img separately, but the ROM thread or a help thread should explain how that works of you're unfamiliar.
