Superuser issues - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I doubt this is a ROM issue, lemme make that known so i dont mislead anyone.first off big props to myn and the other devs who conributed to synergy.im running godmode synergy rc2 and im blown away by performance battery life etc.
This is my question.ive been usong brozonos flashing process to do updates.i want to flash a new superuser zip,but im unsure if its possible.my superuser version says 9.9.9,and according to root checker im not rooted, theres an alternate su location in /system/bin.i cant call upon anything that requires su permission,i get permission denied.i did a nandroid, and the only thing i can call upon is titanium backup,as its already been authorized.im just trying to fix this permission issue,im tired of wiping and restoring because of it.

I ended up wiping anyways, but for the hell of it ill give it a shot.thanks.

I replaced my current one with that one.brought my version back to a normal number, but i still cant update the su binary.it just says checking, then disappears.usually itll say su is uptodate.

lost su permission

i am currently running randomRom with the genocide 2.0 kernal and today i was going to change some setting in voltage control and found that i did not have an updated su permission. then upon trying to update it, i got an error saying it could not get su. can i just re run the oneclickroot to get it back and have it up-to-date?
Also can someone explain the different settings in voltage control? Not too sure what they mean. never used a cpu app so not too sure what everything means. thanks for the help.
Try reflashing the rom
U dont need to wipe

Uninstall su & reinstall
Same thing happened to me and I uninstalled Superuser and reinstalled it from the Market. That seemed to work.
Was posted about a week ago, now on page 3.

[Q] Superuser upgrade

I got a superuser update and while updating one day it updated succesfully.. now all of a sudden ts prompting update again and its not updating.. its throwing a update failed error message.
Anything that needs root access like titanium says cant get root acces..
whats going on?
The kernel you are using may not have the proper signature to update to the 3.0 binary. You can try the superuser update fixer from the market, and then update the binary, or just uninstall the new superuser from the market to revert back. I find the update fixer works temporarily for me untill I reboot, then it tells me to update binary again. I just reverted back for now.

I had a similar issue, where I would get something like "Obtaining root access: Failed" whenever I tried to update the binary file. I would also get a random FC of Superuser.
I uninstalled Superuser to get to the original one when I rooted my phone, and updated again via Market. It updated the binary file fine now. Hope that helps!
Note, I do also have Superuser Elite, but I didn't modify that at all.

Had this happen a while back. Just clear the su cache and re-try, that should fix the error

Lol works fine on the stock kernel.
(I keep telling people that stock has its benefits) lol
Roll Tide
Works fine on ET4G stock kernel too.

Check the market, they've been updating the Superuser app, like crazy the last few days. I've now had about 3-4 updates (at least one per day).
Uninstall the update then unistall the super user app. Reinstall the super user app, reinstall the update, and then try again. This worked for me.
I had automatic updates enabled, I think it screws it up. So uncheck it and manually update it whenever it needs to be.

The developer of su stated on his website that the binary cannot be updated if it is installed in /sbin, because that directory is actually a part of boot.img, which remains read only even if the system partition is mounted with read-write access. This is exactly how it is installed in SRF 1.2 (and probably all earlier versions, as well as several other Epic roms).
Rom developers will need to change the su install directory in order for the su app to be able to update the binary.

But if you're using a stock setup, perhaps one of the other answers here would be more helpful.

Superuser, Busybox, and Titanium Backup

I rooted my brothers phone for him about a year ago and I usually don't have a problem maintaining his "rootness'; except for this time.
He's running MIui and wants to switch to cyanogenmod. When he goes into titanium backup, he's getting a message that says "sorry, I can not acquire root privelages. This application *not* work. Please verify that your rom is rooted and includes busy box and try again".
I went to the superuser app and made sure he had root privelages, which he does, and also downloaded a busybox installler from the market and it is said he already had a busybox installed but i reinstalled it and the application said it has successfully installled. Yet, titanium backup continues to show the same message.
The weird part is, is that titanium backup works without a problem on sense roms.

Try hitting the problems button within TB. It will install a good version of busybox for it. It might help. Idk
Boo
Under preferences, it only offers a superuser update not a busybox

Try updating the su. Some of the first 3.0.? versions make you lose root. In the new version 3.0.? that problem has been fixed.

You know I just realized I still use a really old version of TB. It's probably diff now. On mine there is a button on the main Page that just says problems? which dl a compatible version of busybox. They must have changed it. Sorry man
Boo
Its updated

Problem solved: I went into titanium backup preferences and hit" force system busybox". I will give thanks to everyone who tried to help.

I knew they wouldn't have ditched that feature. They just changed the name. Glad you figured it out. I'd be lost without TB.

Unable to install busybox

I'm in the middle of trying to get things setup so I can try out the arm version of Bt5. Running stock rom, 2.3.4, using busybox installer downloaded from the market. Tried a few versions of busybox and the best I get is a restart. My suspicions are that it can't write to that part of the nand even with root unless I'm in recovery or something close to that. Anyone who has had this problem in the past care to shed some light on the subject?

Are you s-off? Do you have superuser installed and functioning? Which busybox installer are you using, stericsons or jrummys? Does it install fine and then crash when accessing it or will it not even install? Does it give any certain error messages?
Try this from the V6 OP.

Flashable zip of newest busybox.
Backup first, just in case.
Thanks to wraithdu and zep.

Superuser is installed and running, was trying jrummy, the app installs and loads. Busybox does not install at all and I was getting no errors, it would force the dinc to restart.

Worth a try, cant hurt anything.
Have busybox installed but still can not load Bt5. I'm going to try some screen shots and see if that might give some better ideas as to what the issue might be.

Superuser binary update - "Making sure new su works..." fail!

I use the stock 4.0.3 rom, rooted by flashing the su binary to system.
Now I updated to the latest superuser market app, and it sees that there's a new version of su binary.
But when I try to update to this new su binary, everything else goes fine, but when it reaches the last step "Making sure new su works...", it says "Fail!".
What's going on?
Problem
I HAVE THIS PROBLEM Too i contacted chainfire but he doesnt answer me back.
Same issue here as well. It still grants all my apps superuser privileges though. I wonder if it matters?

Should I make a flashable zip with the latest su? That would work.

Same, lost root after cm10 flash, su fail.

yes I'm having the same issue after flashing new ROM...but Tit Backup won't gain Root! ^^
Same issue.. The newest SU update is a fail. It's a total shock because it's always been solid in the past. We wouldn't be doing half the things we do on our phone without it

I also noted this when trying to update the binary on my GTab 7510. Only things I can suggest are choosing a ROM that has the latest Superuser + binary included, re-rooting with a newer root package, or uninstalling the update (although you constantly get the update notification which is annoying).
Same thing used to happen to me whenever I would try switching from SuperSU to Super User. Seems like SU anything from the market doesn't play nice with our phones.
i just reflash a root zip or superuser zip and that usually fixes it for me. no idea why its happening though.
