What happened to the stickied launcher tutorial? - Galaxy S II Themes and Apps

A kind user wrote a detailed tutorial on how to create new home screens and lock screens using different launchers. He also linked to icon sets etc. I could swear it was stickied here but cannot find it any more in any of the sub forums.
Can some please point me to it.

Thanks. I couldn't quite remember the title and none of my searches turned up the correct thread.

Improved search

I posted a thread regarding hiding softkeys, when i search hide softkey it shows nothing. When i search hide softkeys it shows the topic.
Alot of reposts are because forum members cannot find topics they are looking for. I myself am an expert searcher but times i do not find topics and end up being found guilty of being a reposter to then have somebody show me the post i could not find before.

Any nice icon for Top bar (only tabs that in line with start menu icon)?

Hi guys, I'm looking for some nice icon replacements for Top bar icons(only tabs that in line with start menu icon), cos I found the original set is the way too drab, and I'd like have something simple but colourful. since I can't make one on my own, if there is anyone got nice cabs, please share with me~~
Try this link dude.
This is a link to Mallmans top bar.
You need to install Sdkcerts.cab first, then the top bar. Links are in order:
Sdkcerts: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=130527&d=1226888387
Mallman's Coloured topbar: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=130465&d=1226877598
Alternatively check the forum, this is where I got the link to Mallmans Topbar, but there are a number of others who have posted their own. You just need to choose the one you like best: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=445497

I have some question, but cannot find the answer at several fora. I hope you can help me:
1) What is the application called, that can set the background for s2u2? and how can i change the slider icon?
2) the icons at the right upper corner, are there apps to make my own? because i dont really like those i have now. or are there icons made by others that u can recommend me?
3) how can i download/install themes? any recommended themes?
4) i have seen many threads about manila, but cannot find out what it is. is it a theme or a app?
5) how can i delete apps that i dont want to use anymore?
6) any other recommended apps?
7) how can i change my start button, to that one with the htc logo?

Just before I start answering some questions, I know that you are new here, but one of the things that you'll very very very quickly learn is that people here have little tolerance for people who don't do their own searching. We're not angry people, it's just that the questions you ask have been answered previously (maybe not in so many words) and are just a quick search away. If you look at the top of the webpage, you'll see a toolbar. Going from the right side, there is "Log Out", "Quick Links" and "Search" (there are others). Click "Search" and you will generally be able to search for whatever you want.
Another handy website is http://www.google.com.
Now, onto your questions:
1) You can change the S2U2 background simply by reading the instructions that came with S2U2. Get the jpeg you want as your wallpaper, then copy it into /Program Files/S2U2/gfx. To find out more about customising S2U2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=354111
2) Have a look in this forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=474&order=desc
3) Have a look in this same forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=474&order=desc. There are many themes in here that are in the *.cab format. Simply copy+paste onto your device, then run it
4) Manilla is Touch Flo 3D
5) Start Menu -> Settings -> System -> Remove Programs
6) Use the wiki http://wiki.xda-developers.com or search this SAME forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=474&order=desc. Please please PLEASE don't ask how to use the wiki....because it's basically idiot proof.
7) This is answered in question 2. Have a look in this SAME forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=474&order=desc
FINAL TIP: be patient and SEARCH in this forum. I, along with many other people in this forum, have learned the hard way that just by doing a little search and being a little patient, you can find the right answers without annoying people.
Good luck!
First off, welcome to XDA. Secondly, I think skulk3r answered your queries very efficiently and eloquently. Others possibly wouldn't as these questions have been asked many times before.
I would remind you to read the forum rules, especially No.1 Search before posting.

[Q] A Few Themeing Questions

Hello GUIse,
I am sort of new to theme porting, I have ported 2 themes from the SGS (Gingerbread Theme & Black Android Theme by Pele) the Gingerbread Theme ported fine with no issues, on the other hand, the Black Android Theme went across fine but there was an issue with the notification area, the "clear" button to clear all notifications has gone the incorrect colour (The button itself not the text) I was wondering, where is this button based so I can change the colour?
I presumed it was on Framework-res.apk but found nothing.
I heard you have to edit the XML settings but was unsure which XML it was as there are plenty.
Second Question: What program do you use to edit XML files? I used notepad and it came up with mumbo jumbo.
Thanks in advance, I appreciate any help.
Everyone has to start somewhere, but if you do please show some self-initiative and search a bit for yourself. There are tons of topics on how to start on advanced themeing. Here's one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=916814
To answer your second question, you can use notepad++ although i use UltraEdit.
Notepad may work but you have to decompile the apk to view the xml correctly (you may already know this). As far as the clear button goes, ive done this before ages ago but cant remember, ill try and dig out the info unless someone gets there first.
I can tell you where to find one thing thats totally unrelated but you could use it as a test : to change the volume bar you have to edit progress_horizontal.xml which is within framework-res.apk/res/drawable/
Hope some of this helps.

Just so you know, I did try search initially but obviously not hard enough. I wouldn't of posted anything if I didn't know what to look for.
Thanks for linking me to that thread.

[Q] Got any suggestions for this homescreen?

Based on: http://mycolorscreen.com/2013/10/18/google-ui-13/
Screenshots here: https://imgur.com/a/u6yML#2
I'm quite happy with the 'Home' page, and the 'Google' page, but I'm not sure entirely how to go about doing the apps page.
I was thinking of doing it all with zooper widget (like the google page - none of those are actual icons, it's all zooper widget.) in order to position things properly, because the launcher grid doesn't allow actual icons to be placed in appropriate positions.
I need some music controls somewhere too - maybe at the bottom of the google page, or the apps page if I split the rectangle background?
Also, I'm thinking of swapping the position of the top 'navbars' and the bottom searchbar, so that I can have a persistent google search (which only displays on the top with no option to place it on the bottom (Nova Launcher). This would require changing the wallpaper background to have the zooper widget search box as part of the background, with the actual search widget on top of it, unless there's a way to have the search zooper widget act/behave exactly like the google search bar?
I plan to release the files when done if anyone is interested
Lock screen is temporary until I figure out what to do with that - ideas/suggestions?
Thanks in advance guys.

With a layout as clean as you have now, I would be concerned that putting in music controls would complicate things unnecessarily. You might consider hiding the music controls using popup widget 2, or something similar. This would allow you to have music controls at the touch of a button, but not persistent (so that if you aren't listening to music they aren't in the way).
Auto popup with important info (short)
Hello,
I have been on this forum for a short moment now. And like to say thank you first for all the help so far. Thank you for your patience too!
You guys and girls have helped me root and customise my phones.
On topic:
I see there is a need to educate users for the right way to post messages. I suggest a kind of popup with the most important rules.
One of the important issues is that the forum is being filled with posts that are not at right place.
Like developer forum where questions are asked. I myself made myself guilty as well. Been thinking how to correct it.
The solution might be as follows:
- Create a popup that shows the most important rules.
- The same popup has a link to the more complete rules page.
- at the end people sign they acknowledge they have read it and understand.
- Then people can press ok
- A new popup shows (based on login). It shows a quiz and will ask questions. If the user does not know, he /she will not get access to
the forum at all!
- All users must complete this test! Not completing equals no access. After completing you will be sure the user knows the rules.
- Extra precausion, or called penalty if a user does something that is not right. No warning given, but the penalty will be given like
unable to login. Let's say 2 days to start with. With a second violation the period is extended to 1 week. Third time 1 month offline.
Forum admin keep the right to freeze a user and put that user onto a blacklist any time. Which means no access any longer.
Perhaps combine that with IP registration.
I don't know about you, but if I really need an answer fast, I would think twice to make big mistakes again and again.
I know the forum is not the quickest in answering, but people do answer, and usually have good answers.
Hope these suggestions are usefull. B.t.w. this website looks really good! :good: But the content that is offered, outmatches the looks
by a million times. The data, tools, apps made by you guys and roms are priceless!
Keep on the good work
