[Q] Stuck in bootloop after crash sd card please help - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I really hope someone can help me. I can not use my HTC Desire anymore.
I am using Cyanogenmod for a long time and really like it. The version I am on no is the 7.1 RC 1 mod.
This morning my phone said my sd card was damaged. It was, I had to format it in windows and the SD is empty now.
The problem I now have is a boot loop when I turn my phone on. With or without the sd card installed.
I think I have to wipe my phone but how can I do this, or how can I restore a complete new Cyanogenmod install?
I have an empty SD Card now.
Thanks very much for any support!
John

Extra info
Hi,
I have put the update-cm-7.0.3-Desire-signed op on the SD Card, When I enter bootlader I see the following:
Bravo PVT1 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.80.0000
MICROP-031d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNTH0101
RADIO-5.11.05.27

HBOOT
<VOL UP> to previous menu
<VOL DOWN> to next item
<POWER> to select item
FASTBOOT
RECOVERY (green)
CLEAR STORAGE
SIMLOCK
Now I choose recovery and get a red triange. No wipe option availble.
Looks like my clockwork mod has been gone?
I haev found somewhere I can downloaded the cyanogenmod zip file and rename it to PD98IMG.zip. When I go into the bootloader I will be asked to flash it.
This is not working it looks likes the bootloader looks for another PD***.zip file?

Renamed to PB99IMG.zip
Renamed it to PB99IMG.zip. It is loading, Checking and I am back in the HBOOT menu. No question if I want to flash it. Now what?
I am stuck now

What recovery do you have?
Also, do you have root access?

It was rooted and had clockwork.
But it looks lilke clockwork boot disappeared.
I will use RUU to back to stock rom and root again after that.
Thanks for all support!

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
reflash your recovery and restore your backup - which I hope you didn't lose
Edit -
Actually just read your post - you have an empty sd did you make a pc backup of your nandroid?

Android sometimes says the sd-card is damaged, doesn't mean that's the case. A lot of the time rebooting the phone once or twice, or booting without the sd-card, then with, fixes the problem.
when you boot into recovery and get the android triangle thingy try:
First pace the recovery image in your sdcard root and rename it to recovery (so the full name will now be recovery.img), then reboot into recovery and plug in via usb.
adb shell
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img (wait till this# sign shows up again before you type the next command)
reboot recovery
if that doesn't work, then it's a longshot since I haven't done it before but you can always try
reboot into recovery, press VOLUME UP and POWER at the same time, which gets you the stock recovery.. AFAIK I think you still can flash images from there, so if you got a recovery.zip and renamed it to "update.zip" and stuck it in the root of your sd-card, and chose the flash "update.zip" in recovery mode, that *should* fakeflash recovery and you'd be able to flash a ROM, and that should fix it for you.. if that doesn't work then use a RUU, and after you done that S-OFF so you can get yourself out of these situations easier!

I have done a RUU. My phone is now stock again.
What is the best way to continue from this point?
How do I make my HTC Desire S_OFF?

[problem] desire restarting after cyanogen flash

Heya,
I was using the LeeDroid ROM until today, when I desided I want Cyanogen.
I backed up the phone using ROM Manager, wipe and flashed Cyanogem 6.1 RC2. The phone restarted, turned on - but it cn't load the actual android OS - just keeps restarting on the blue wheel-thing animation.
I can boot my phone into recovery, but can't do much from there since its S-ON.
The recovery windows says:

hboot-0.80.0000
microp-031d
touch panel-synt0101
radio-5.10.05.23
fastboot
recovery
clear storage
simlock
what can I do to get my phone working again? Will a simple restore using HTC software do the trick (followed by root with unrevoked)?
Thanks

Which version of Clockworkmod recovery did you fakeflash? There is an issue with the latest one that makes your SDcard unaccessible afterwards. It also mess up your USB.
Here is a thread that guides you how to fix it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=691639
I used the latest one, 2.5.1.7 I think.
Isn't there a way to restore the phone with the HTC software, sonething lite the iphone+itunes combo?
Is your sd card not being recognzed?
As you said you created a backup using rom manager before you flashed the new rom. So why dont you just enter hboot, go to recovery and the restore youre phone to the backup that you made using rom mabager before you flashed?
When I select "recovery" using the HBOOT I get a picture of a phone, and a red triangle with an exclamation mark. Does this mean I have to do the USB brick fix?
hmmm thats odd ... sounds like it could be a usb brick related issue, im not sure as i havnt had the same problem before or seen anyone else in the forum experiencing this problem.
I think you should read up more about the usb brick fix, hopefully there is something there that would be able to help you ... if its already known that the latest version of clockworkmod does give this problem then im sure its this and you would be able to find a solution to this problem.
Good luck
UPDATE:
My bad, I was supposed to press volumeup+power to see the recovery screen.
Now, when I do that I get "E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command", and get only 4 options:
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe date
wipe cache
Is this related to the USB BRICK thing?
You need to wipe data when switching roms, this will fix the bootloop.
I would also suggest you flash a permanent recovery for ease of use. You need to use unrevoked to do this.

This is the default android recovery screen. The error "E:Cant open...." is something I also get.
Do you have an update.zip on your SDcard? Like the clockworkmod recovery? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=839640Use 2.5.0.7 and not 2.5.1.2 (has the fail you most likely see now). If correct update.zip on SDcard, try to press apply sdcard. If youre able to do so, you are accessing your sdcard. If youre getting problems applying this update file. I suggest following the thread I told you in my first post You then have to make your SDcard accessible with a fastboot command.
You are accessing fastboot by holding vol down while powering your phone on. Select fastboot. Plug your USB. Download the Android SDK or only fastboot.exe. Run this command from cmd: "fastboot oem enableqxdm 0". You should get a return command like "okay", and your SD card should be accessible again. Now you will need to follow the guide and fix your USB. However, you should be able to flash a new ROM now when your SDcard is accessible again, or just restore the nandroid backup that gave you this problem to begin with

When i select that I get "E; failed to open sdcard\update.zip (no such file or directory)
E: signature verification failed"
Does this simply mean I don't have that file on my card?
If so, is there a way to access the card in mass storage mode while the phone is in HBOOT?

Do you have a mem reader for windows/linux? Look if you have the file or not. If you don't have it, copy it there. If it's there, you have a problem with accessing the SDCard.
I would say, If I were you, I would try to "repair" the SDcard with the fastboot command first. Most likely, your ROM will boot again when it can read from your SDcard.
Other options would be to try to push the update file with ADB in Android Recovery. Most likely you can't push it either since your SDcard most likely is inaccessible. Try fastboot
Download Android SDK for Windows here: http://dl.google.com/android/android-sdk_r07-windows.zip

Unzip the file. Open CMD, navigate to the tools folder in SDK. Issue the command.

I ran the SDcard fix on CMD, it said "OKAY", but nothing changed in the phone's condition.
I put the SDcard on a card reader and saw there are backup files (.img) in the clockworkmod directory. how do i get the phone to recover from them?
The "update.zip" file, where can i get that one?

You can get your update.zip file from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=839640
Download the 2.5.0.7 zip file and rename to update.zip. Put on root of SDcard and apply sdcard: update.zip in android recovery. From here, go to nandroid, restore, and select your backup.
Doesn't the Update.zip file suppose to be a zipped ROM?
Not necessarily. A zip can flash a lot of different things. I'm not that much into it. But it all depends on the content of the zip file.
How do I " go to nandroid"?

Don't remember what it's called exactly. But when running update.zip (clockworkmod), you should have a restore menu somewhere...
Thanks a lot man! recovering right now.. will update when done.
About that S-ON thing, will the Unrevoked reflash option "Remove phone security" take care of this? Is there a risk in re-rooting?
I want to add some notifications sounds and the "system" folder is write protected
EDIT:
The restore works just fine!

[Q] Need help desperately! Evo stuck in boot loop. I've tried everything

I rooted my Evo a few months back. Everything worked fine for a while and then one day the phone restarted itself and never made it past the white evo boot screen.
Before saying anything else I've read through this forum and have tried many different steps to fix it.
I cannot access recovery through fastboot (it just boots to the white evo screen which it doesn't get past). I only have access to fastboot.
I have tried many times (and many different versions, stock, anon recovery etc.) loading a pc36img.zip onto the root of my sd card. It will go through the typical update process and when it finishes and I click reboot phone, it once again just gets stuck on the white evo screen.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you have an SD card reader or a computer with a built in card reader, copy the contents of your SD card to a computer or external drive and then re-partition and re-format your SD card. Afterwards, copy a freshly downloaded version of amonRA v2.3 (the PC36IMG. zip) and the rom you'd like to flash. Turn off your device, pull the battery, wait one minute, re-attach the battery and then attempt to boot to the bootloader (Simultaneously press the DOWN volume button and the Power button until your device starts). Hopefully, the bootloader will properly detect the PC36IMG.zip and prompt you to install. If it does, follow the prompts to install. Afterwards, select recovery, wipe EVERYTHING in the wipeenu EXCEPT the SD card and then flash the rom.

Have you tried to flash a new ROM?
Thanks for the quick reply! I followed your steps. Reformatted my sd card loaded the amonRA v2.3 and the new rom onto the card. Booted in bootloader and ran the update. When it finished it asked if I wanted to reboot my phone, I selected no and tried to boot into recovery....same results. It's still stuck at the white boot screen.
Any other suggestions?
When I got stuck in boot loops, I just stuck the darn phone in a bowl of fruit loops.. worked for me. #justkidding
Did you unchecked fastboot box
After you reformatted the SD you need to make sure the rom zip is not corrupted.redownload rom
What type of rom are you trying to install, did you are partition the sd card.
When you installed the amron 2.3 did you delete the zip from the SD card after install...
Oh boy, haven't seen this on awhile....
Good luck...
This doesn't always work but is based on the last step before I order customers a replacement for boot failure on the Evo. Try flashing the 3.70 update zip then reboot the phone. If the phone boots properly then run the 3.70 RUU (this step helps reduce the chance of corrupt files). This gives you a S-OFF, unrooted ROM config on your phone. let the phone boot into the stock ROM agin and then double check your firmware's and pri as they may need updating again. From here the firmware/recovery/ROM flashing guides should get you back to where you want to be.

Turn off your device and then boot into the bootloader. Look at the top and make sure you're still S-OFF. When the menu appears on the left side of the screen, select recovery. It should work. If it does not work, do the following:
1. Download this particular RUU (PC36IMG_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.70.651.1_Radio_2 .15.00.11.19_NV_1.90_release_161482_signed.zip) from HERE

SHA-1 Checksum: F3725824147B54F4ED917CB025FB5F693B17782B
1A. I don't know what radios you are using so you need to download the following radios from HERE
EVO_Radio_2.15.00.11.19
EVO_PRI_1.90_003
EVO_NV_1.90_003
2. Create a directory named amonRA on your SD card and place the PC36IMG.zip file that's already on your card into that folder.
3. Now rename the above mentioned RUU to PC36IMG.zip and place it on the root of your SD card.
Just a quick note: I am assuming you have HBOOT 2.02/2.10. If so, proceed.
4. If you cannot get to recovery via the bootloader, you will have to use ADB. From a terminal window, type the below commands as-is.
adb shell (press enter)
reboot recovery (press enter)
5. Once in recovery, wipe everything in the wipe menu EXCEPT the SD card.
6. Flash the listed radios 1 by 1 in order
7. Shutdown your device and boot to the bootloader to flash the RUU.
NOTE: If you're successful in getting into recovery, you can opt to flash a different rom. It's your device and your choice.

[Q] Can´t flash recovery - only black screen

Hi guys,
I´m pretty lost here. Up until a few days ago i was a happy Cyanogenmod user, for my HTC Desire (GSM). Suddenly it crashed and could not boot anymore.
I managed to put a RUU (i think it is) on my sd card and renamed it to PB99IMG.zip. Booting to Hboot, it detects the file and flashed the system with HTC Android 2.2, with Sense. This installation works fine, but i want Cyanogenmod again. (i´m currently traveling with very slow internet connections and i cant remember where i got the file).
Now i would like to flash it again with Cyanogenmod 7. I have the zip for that also on my SD card. When I entered recovery from the Hboot menu, it just showed the default recovery, asking for update.zip. I figured i should have a custom recovery, so I tried to flash the recovery.
I´ve tried multiple recovery images and methods;
Using Revolutionary, which detected S-OFF and asked to download CWM
Using ´fastboot flash recovery recovery.img´
Using 4EXT recovery zip and placed it on the sd card as PB99IMG.zip
For the fastboot commandline method i have tried Clockworkmod 2.5.0.7 and the latest version (both default and touch), Amon_RA and 4EXT. Combined with a few ´fastboot erase cache´ and ´fastboot erase recovery´. With every method I get only success messages. When I Hboot the phone and choose recovery from the menu, it restarts, showing the white screen with green HTC letters, and direct after that only a black/blank screen. Pressing any button does not change it.

I really have no idea anymore what i could do to get Clockworkmod or any custom recovery image working.
What options have i got left?
try http://4ext.net/, download the app and it will flash 4ext recovery for you.
as strange as it sounds, also uninstall rom manager if you have it.
finally, to get the most out of cyanogen mod, you need to flash a different hboot, cm7r2 is probably best. this will repartition your nand layout to get more internal memory. flash the img via command line through fastboot.
then backup your sd, then partition it with 4ext recovery. you'll need an a2sd script, or an app like s2e to move apps to the partition automatically.

Please help for newbie

In my sig you will find the 2.3 RUU for the Desire. Download it, then put the PB99IMG.zip on the root of your sd-card (Like, not in a folder). Then boot in hboot, and select yes. Your phone should be stock.

First, from recovery, do a backup, just in case. You know how to do that right? (Enter recovery, select backup, wait)
Just to make sure, download the PB99IMG downgrade from here:
http://alpharev.nl/ (It's the last one in the table)
If you have an sd-card reader:
Put it on your sd-card, then boot in hboot, then select "Yes".
After that, delete the PB99IMG.zip from your sd-card , put the RUU PB99IMG.zip (I know, it's confusing, but stay with me), boot in hboot, then select yes again.
In case you don't have a card reader, then you will have to flash the downgrade through fastboot. Check my sig how to set it up. In this case, extract the .img from the downgrade pb99img zip, open cmd, connect your phone in fastboot, open CMD, and type "fastboot flash hboot <img path>". And then put the RUU PB99IMG.zip on your sd-card, boot in hboot, and select yes.
Recovery opens in clockwork mode, does that make any difference?
And don't i need to wipe data and cache? Just make backup, instal that downgrade and then instal that RUU and that's all?

Clockworkmode works. Just backup.
I explained everything like for a newbie, like you said in the title
Yeah,, that's all you need to do.
As you said, that's really confusing. Ok, thanks, i'm trying to make it now..
Boot in hboot and select yes, but there are no yes to select when i enter hboot it just says:
FASTBOOT
RECOVERY
CLEAR STORAGE
SIMLOCK
Maybe i just i need to install that downgrade zip file from SD card in clockwrokmod recovery?
Sorry
Are you sure you have the PB99IMG.zip (renane it if it's not called that way) on the root of the sd-card?
Well, yes..
Weird. Then flash it through fastboot.
And after all that if it will works my phone will be unrooted? And android will stay in the same version or not?
You will be unrooted, but then you can very easily root using revolutionary.
You will have android 2.3.3
When i enter hboot and when it reads zip file on sd card it writes that there are no img file or smth
hope you still have patience for me
Thats the message telling you that it didn't find any pb99img.zip on the root of the sd-card.
Again, are you sure that you put the exactly named "pb99img.zip" outside any folder on your sd, and that you have the correct one?
that is weird.. Well yes, name is exatly like yours and i just pick that zip file on my sd card not in any folder on sd
on boot it says:
SD checking...
Loading...[PB99DIAG.zip]
No image!
Loading...[PB99DIAG.nbh]
No image or wrong image!
Loading...[PB99IMG.zip]
No image!
Loading...[PB99IMG.nbh]
No image or wrong image!
i took my other sd card, formated it and now it works, so i'm going to instal it, hope it will be fine...
download this file attached (downgrade.img) and put it on ur sdcard (not in a folder) boot into bootloader, volume down + power then bootloader will find PB99IMG and ask u to update, volume up for yes. then just follow abaaaabbbb63 instructions or what ever it is ur trying to do.

So you can't install a recovery? How do you install them? Try getting the 4ext recovery PB99IMG.zip image in my sig, and install it. Instructions in the respective thread.

Put the PB99IMG.zip on your sd-card (outside any folder), then boot in hboot, and select yes.
Alternatively, power off your smartphone.
Install the fastboot and device drivers and attach the USB from your computer to your smartphone.
Hold the volume-down button and power on to get into HBOOT.
Then simply use AndroidFlasher or another utility to flash a recovery image. You can take this opportunity to flash your ROM as well.
Also, I'd suggest using either AmonRa or 4EXT Recovery for your device as some users with the MICROP firmware version 0.51d have reported problems with using CWM.
Put the PB99IMG.zip on your sd-card (outside any folder), then boot in hboot, and select yes.
