Ok, im new. Ive tried before when GB first came out, but i didnt know of rooting so i updated and had to wait it out. Anyway, my phone is S-Off, but whenever i try to go into recovery, a black screen with an evo and a red triangle is shown. What is wrong?
Help soon would be nice.
That's because the revolutionary.io root only gives you s-off.
It does NOT install an aftermarket recovery.
Put this file http://files.androidspin.com/downloads.php?dir=amon_ra/RECOVERY/&file=PC36IMG.zip on your SDCARD and boot into the bootloader and then accept the update.
From there, you can boot into the recovery and flash whatever ROM/Kernel you want.

Hmm?
If the pc36img.zip file is on your sdcard you then boot into the bootloader and it will ask if you want to update. Press volume up for yes and it will install.
From there you can go into the recovery.

This is the right bootloader correct? If i click onto the main screen, then hit recovery, it messes up and i get the triangle screen again.

Click on bootloader.
It should then scan and prompt you to update.
If it doesn't then the PC36img.zip isn't on the root of your sdcard.
Also, make sure that it's NOT named PC36IMG.zip.zip.

You put whatever rom zip (unextracted) on the root of your sdcard.
Then you go into your recovery.
Pick flash from zip.
Pick the zip and flash it.

Download ROM Manager from the Market. In ROM Manager look for Fix Permissions and run it, then reboot your phone. Let's see if that helps.

I cant, The phone boots, then loads the status bar and wallpaper, then thats it. Nothing else, and i can only lock/unlock the phone. The nandroid backup didnt work, and i cant RUU because i cant mount it. What now?
If you have a SD Card adapter, you can put a stock odexed ROM on your card and install it from recovery. Wipe everything first. That is usually the cause of many problems.

OMG! I have bricked it for sure! I want to cry! I have clockwork and it never goes to recovery so I do option at the bottom to restore the other. Clockwork always gives me the white lines and black screen. So like a dumb ass I went into clockwork and looked at roms. Downloaded one and it asked to install clockwork recovery to install so I said yes. Installed the rom and when it asked to go to clockwork recovery to install I said yes. And now nothing just the black screen with white lines. Will not do anything. All options in volume down and power do nothing. Help help help!! Cannot boot phone or get into recovery! I have a brick, I just know it!! Please help me get my phone back!!!!!
Recovery options
Its not a brick. Follow that link to get recovery working again. You can use Adrynalyne's version or the link to BAmod by berzerker. Sd card needs to be fat32 for hboot to recognize the .zip
ok do I need to just put the sd card in the puter and reformat it? And then put the zip on the sd card after I rename it?
Should work for ya.
well I did that and it didn't work. It goes through the HBoot when I first turn it on and then it doesn't do anything else. Just says something like no image?
Follow exactly the directions on the berzerker thread.
They work.
If you choose to d/l one of his, he offers several means to accomplish the placement of the recovery. Sounds like you tried copying a PMB image to SD. (Option #3, assuming you have S-Off, which you should if you used unrevoked) No ADB needed. (nothing to do for step 2b in Option #3)
The directions on what to do are pretty succinct w/ that method.
Try it.

What you are describing is the SLCD screen w/ incorrect recovery.
Copy one of the PMB image files to the freshly formatted SD card and follow the directions in berzerker's thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10048323 - option 3.
You don't have to put quotes around the filename when you rename it, nor do you step 2b in the option 3 process. Easy as pie - try it.

Did you get it to work? I had done the same thing you had w/ wife's DInc just this week - solution worked - what was your outcome?

Ok got my phone working great. Just will not reboot from quick boot app or from recovery. But can live with it as I said. But do have a question.... the rom I downloaded has Rom Manager in it. What I want to know is if I go and install Clockwork Recovery and then go to the bottom of Rom Manager there is a place to restore another recovery. And that installs Amon Recovery, which I have no problem with. Can I do this and then delete the Rom Manager so I never mess up my phone to the point where I cry most of the day thinking I have a $350.00 brick! Thank everyone for the help!

but after about the second or third time doing so it gets stuck at the white htc evo boot screen . i can access recovery and have tried flashing other roms like cyanogen but just gets stuck.. when i tried flashing stock rom.. says installation aborted..

Your Evo is fine, so relax.
Try toggling off Signature Verification, then flashing your ROM. Also, I recommend Amon Ra over Clockwork because the newer Clockwork will not flash older ZIP files that don't use the newer install scripts. Did you at least make a Nandroid Backup before attempting any of this?

Flashing to Amon RA recovery will be your best bet. Forget about clockwork. The easiest way to flash to Amon Ra would be to use ROM Manager, and select 'flash alternate recovery'. However, you can't get booted up, so that option won't currently work for you. You can download Amon Ra V2.3 in PC36IMG, from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705026. You would then place the PC36IMG on the root of your sd card, either using USB MS toggle in recovery, or by removing your sd card from the phone, and using a card reader to put it in your PC and then dropping the file on it. Then put it back in your phone, and boot to the bootloader. It will detect the PC36IMG.zip, and ask you if you want to update. Hit volume up to say yes. It will then flash the new recovery for you. At that point, I'd try wiping again, flashing Calkulin's Format all.zip (attatched), and then try reflashing a ROM. Remember, don't try restoring any previous nandroids made by Clockwork while your using Amon Ra. It will mess stuff up. Good luck.
honestly im not sure if i did i did a back up in the rom manager.. and tried restoring from there but wont do it.. and i believe the toggle is already off

Alright, I'll tell you how to get back to completely stock and then root all over again. It shouldn't take long at all. This is what you do:
1) Download this ZIP, name it "PC36IMG".zip (no quotes) and put it in the root of your memory card. Meaning if your card shows up on your computer as E:\, then put it in E:\ (no folders).
2) Go into Bootloader mode/hboot (Power + Volume Down), and let it find the zip after a few seconds. It'll ask you if you want to apply it. Hit yes. This will take a while and your phone might reboot a few times.
3) When it's done, you're on an unrooted ROM, but still S-OFF. You can do one of two things:
A) Download the latest Unrevoked and run that all over again (takes like 5 minutes).
B) Download Amon_Ra recovery zip (replace the other PC36IMG.zip) and repeat step 2 to flash it. Then flash whatever you want.
That's it. From then on you can flash whatever you want. What kernel were you trying to use btw? HTC 17?

Okay. You're almost there. Now that you have the PC36IMG on your sd card, power the phone off completely. Then hold power and vol+down so that it will put you into the bootloader. Then just wait a few seconds, and the bootloader will scan and find the PC36IMG, then tell you it found an update, and ask you if you want to update. You wll press volume up to say yes to the update. It will then flash the PC36IMG (whether its just the recovery, or if you're unrooting and rerooting using Fred's method, you flash the same way from the bootloader)
sorry, fred already got to ya!

Just to verify, because it needs to be exact. THe file that you put on your sd card, is named exactly like this, correct ? :: PC36IMG :: It must be capitals. Do Not add a :: .zip :: to the end of it, because the phone does that. If you did label it :: PC36IMG.zip, it would really be PC36IMG.zip.zip, which the bootloader won't recognize. so be sure that it is on main root of your sd card, and named properly, then the bootloader should recognize it.

Are you rooted? What recovery do you have? If you are rooted, you may need to reflash a recovery. I suggest amon RA v2.3....Download the PC36IMG.zip from http://files.androidspin.com/downloads.php?dir=amon_ra/RECOVERY/&file=PC36IMG.zip
Afterwards, put it on the root of your SD card. Shutdown your device and re-enter the bootloader screen (press the down volume button while also pressing the power button). The bootloader will AUTOMATICALLY detect the PC36IMG.zip and prompt you to install. Follow the prompt to install. The installation takes less than 10 seconds to complete. Afterwards, reboot into recovery. The name & version of the recovery will be displayed at the bottom of the screen....Take care.

Yeah, but that doesn't mean it is a recovery file. Boot animation screens and the like can also be name PC36IMG.zip. If you're certain that the file you have is indeed a recovery file, then, by all means, use the one you have, but if you're unsure, go with the one I linked and put the other one in a folder.

If you followed my instructions and are now in recovery, then yes, that's it. I mean, unless you're getting ready to flash a new rom, kernel, theme, mod of some sort, you can simply select "reboot" and your phone will reboot and then load into your homescreen.

You are definitely in recovery if you're able to wipe the cache, dalvik & data. Keep in mind that since you are wiping your "data", you will have to re-enter your data when you enter your homescreen. Most people do not wipe their data unless they want to start over or something. Anyway, I'm glad I was able to be of assistance to you. Take care and have a great night....
Hello all and thank you for your continued hard work and accomplishments!
I have installed CM7 3.2.1 on my evo and it has been running for a month now with no real problems. I went to make a back-up by using my quick boot app. the app took me to the bootloader screen instead of taking me directly to recovery. so I selected recovery anyway and when I DID, it showed the white HTC loading screen for about a second then brought me right back to the main boot loader screen. this screen would let me re-boot however. So I went into bootloader manually and got the same results.
A friend told me to run the unrevoked root installer again to reflash the recovery software. so my question is do you guys think this is a good idea or will it mess up the phone? I searched the forums but couldnt find a problem like mine. I'm sorry if I didnt look hard enough and it is in here! Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again guys!
you can just download a custom recovery, rename it correctly(it needs to be PC36IMG exactly, transfer it to your sd card, go into hboot and it should scan for the PC36IMG file. select yes to update and you should be good to go.

Do exactly as said, and you'll be on amon_ra 2.3. No need to rename the file because I already named it correctly.

Glad we could help.
I was on one of the older Hboots, decided to update that and the radio. I flashed the new Hboot, now it says S-On and it DOES NOT reboot. Everytime I try rebooting, it shows the splash screen and goes right back to the Hboot menu! Can anyone help me?
Try running unrevoked forever from the recovery and it may let you unlock it. If not you may be stuck.
Ok, I got S-off back by unrevoked-forever, but it still doesn't reboot. Anyone have any suggestions?

I've attached adb in case you don't already have it, extract it and cd to where you extracted it to. Then just connect your Evo and run..
Code:
adb reboot

Go into your recovery and wipe everything then reflash your Rom. If you can't access your recovery flash a recovery image of your choice via bootloader by renaming it PC36IMG and placing it on the root of your SD card then wipe everything and reflash your Rom.

Yeah, I think I had .93 Hboot, maybe should have just stayed with that, I dunno.
if it's bouncing you back to hboot it could be for the same reason it bounces you back to recovery after using a format_all.zip file.
Go find Sprint Lover's 2.3. It comes in a PC36IMG file you can put in the root of your sd card and flash in the bootloader (aka parsing the update).
It's rooted so you'll keep s-off and your phone should boot. Also, once you're booted, download rom manager and put your recovery back
Hope this helps!
