[Q] Help - discarded my upgrade notification - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Howdy all,
Today I started to upgrade my HTC Desire Z on Bell Mobility (Canada) from Froyo to Gingerbread after receiving a notification. I started the download when I noticed that I was using 3G rather than wi-fi, which was turned off. When I cancelled the d/l, I selected DISCARD, which I thought would only discard what I had started to d/l, but it appears to have cleared the notification so that when I check for updates via System->check for updates, it says my phone is up to date. How do I retrieve that update notification, or at least start the upgrade process without the notification? My phone is not rooted, and I am not really interested in doing so.
Thanks for your help.

HTC Desire Firmware update

Has anybody recieved the Firmware over the air update? Curious as to what it updates as it doesnt mention it on the HTC site.

Update – HTC Desire Firmware Over The Air (FOTA) update
In our commitment to providing you with the best user experience, we are pushing out a new firmware update to your phone. Your phone will receive a notification of this update when it is made available. Simply press OK to accept the update via a data connection such as Wi-Fi or GPRS/3G. After installing the update, you can confirm a successful update by confirming the Software Number (From the Home Screen go to MENU> Settings> About Phone> Software information> Software number). The new software number after the update will be 1.15.405.4 for an HTC phone.
1.15.110.11 on T-Mobile
Note: We recommend using a free Wi-Fi hotspot or an unlimited data plan to apply this update. If not, standard data connection charges may apply. For any questions, please contact us at http://www.htc.com/www/CA_Hotline.aspx
well just checked my device and its already installed. 2 options or it was pre-installed on my device or auto installed.
quite old I suppose, since I bought it here in Italy the past week and it came with such firmware.
Oh, should you guess if it enables 720p video, no, it doesn't.
I checked my software number 1.15.61.10, i ran the sytem software update and it told me there are no updates...
More in this older thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=660642
has anyone else other than T Mobile users recieved the update?
Generic devices got it last week.
T-Mobile got it this week.
Orange phones will get it in the next few days..
Just be patient.....FOTA updates do not all come at once.
Really? I thought everybody would get it at the same time... crashing all the networks.
I was hoping this update is for the DIVX support.. link to the article:
http://www.mobiletechworld.com/2010...ceive-divx-playback-support-in-future-update/
Copied from mobiletechworld:
I had the chance to talk to HTC a couple of hours ago during their local HTC Legend/Desire/HD Mini presentation. There was obviously nothing new to learn (especially since I already got some hands-on action last week at the MWC). The only new piece of info I got was about the rumored DivX playback and 720P encoding capabilities of the HTC Desire (aka HTC Bravo). The answer I got was that DivX support will be added in a future update (they didn’t say much about 720P support but from the way it sounded it should be coming in the same update) because they didn’t have time to finalise the feature before launching the handset.
Im dubious if orange are going to release this update and add there rubbish to it.
I upgraded my ROM on my HTC Touch HD from the HTC website, the ROM was a orange only ROM..
Lets just say it was more of a downgrade than upgrade...my original ROM had no orange branding or software, i believe that the new ROM sim locked my phone...
old, t-mobile ships their devices already with the .11 software

Orange Rom Update - What's Changed?

Does anybody know what HTC has updated with their latest software update (on Orange it's now 1.15.61.10).
Thnx!
Not sure myself although my battery seems to be tonnes better. Anyone else's thoughts on the battery?
Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
huh?!
for some reason i've only just received this update today. will let you guys know if there are any major changes. lets hope they haven't buggered the device any further!
I have Orange Desire too.
How does this ROM get applied?
Is it automatically updated?
I haven't received any notification so far..
thanks
I didn't receive any notification too. However, after reading this thread, I got myself and update via my Desire. Used Menu > Settings > About Phone > System Software Updates and then click "Check Now". You will then get a notification that a new firmware is available and whether you wish to install it.
However, I still haven't managed to figure out what has changed apart from the software number
Thanks
I tried that and then realised I already had the update (must have already been installed)..

[q] froyo bugs??

Hi Guys!
I have the australian Desire because of the 850MHz 3G frequency needed in my country. I upgraded to froyo (not rooted device) "in the air" and got this:
- Android 2.2 version;
- 32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20 baseband version;
- 2.6.32.14-gf9c0527 kernel version;
- 2.09.405.8 CL218634 release-keys;
- 2.09.405.8 software version;
- wbekit 3.1 browser version.
Besides the sometimes poor reception of the radio I´m also having notifications problems:
1- The phone, when in vibrate mode, doesn´t receive calls, the phone do not vibrate at all going to "not available" for the person who calls me and a missed call symbol appears on the notification area.
2- The phone do not ring at all in normal mode and a missed call symbol appears on the notification area.
3- SMS messages do not ring and/or vibrate when in normal/vibrate modes, specially when the threaded messages are opened.
This problems occours randomly, sometimes occours and sometimes not.
Is there anyone also having this?
Thank you all!
Are you locked to Telstra? I didn't think they had upgraded to Froyo yet, because I've got one, and just checked.
Anyway, I've rooted the device (using Unrevoked) and installed OpenDesire on it, and don't have any of the problems you're having. However, if you don't want to void your warranty, I can see the reasons for not wanting to root/flash your phone.

No, I´m not locked to Telstra. When I bought it on eBay I did simply put my chip from Vivo on it and started talking. I do not care about warantie, I just like the HTC widgets and messages, email, dialer and other stuffs and don´t want to have an instable OS, or a modifyed one with icons and stuffs that don´t have the "factory default appearance", got it?
But I have not discarted rooting my device...
Is your from Telstra too? Was it locked?
Thanks!
Australian Desire in Brazil
cristianomc,
I'm no expert, but since you updated your desire 'over the air' I wonder if you have firmware from your mobile carrier that is incompatible with the telstra firmware that was on the telstra branded desire?
Telstra Froyo updates are not out yet, but should be in a week or two.
These would be available 'over the air' in Australia, but perhaps they would also be available online from HTC or telstra.
HTC had a telstra update some months ago for the desire and posted it here : www*htc*com/au/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=941&news_id=640
Perhaps you should check this page in a week or so and see if the Telstra 2.2 update is there for download and try insalling that over the top?
Alternatively, since you haven't "rooted" your phone, but just used an incompatible 'over the air' updtate in Brazil, e-mail htc support, and they may be able to help?
Good luck,
Richard

[Q] Newly Debranded and Froyo'd Desire - Changed Sim Msgs??

I recently debranded my Desire and updated to Froyo using the rather helpful guide below.
http://www.broadbandgenie.co.uk/blog/20100822-how-debrand-htc-desire-update-froyo
All has worked rather well, (better than I expected), and I no longer have any Orange rubbish on my handset. However when my phone has been switched off for a while, when powering up I get a msg saying "your sim has changed", and asks if I want to update details etc. This seems to happen each time.
Nothing bad happens if I cancel and ignore the msg, but I wondered if there was something I could do to stop it from appearing again?
This is a common problem on certain custom roms. I'd take a look in the thread of the rom you are using and see if they have released the fix yet.

[Q] Ginger Villain 3.3 Notification Vibrate Issue

Hi guys,
I've been using GV 2.7 on my Desire for about 6 months and decided to upgrade to 3.3 today but I've got a problem.
Both times after installing/upgrading my phone won't vibrate when I get texts and emails but it will when I receive calls and turn the volume down to zero. Last time it just started working again after a couple of months but this time I'd like to be more pro-active. Can anyone help?
I've tried installing Sound Manager and playing around with the setting but to no avail!
Cheers,
Mike
Having the same issue and is looking for a solution. Any updates on this matter?
Hi,
i am on villain_au that the guys at rom-au prepaired. It has some small upgrades in it and some extra settings for the australia network. The settings for the network are no problem (you remove or take the ones from your sim)
so far no problems ..got an occasional forced close of an app, but that could be the app as well. No boots.
