Hi there.
Where can I find such boot sound for my DHD? Wanted to try them into those custom ROMs available. I try finding at Youtube but no luck.
Thanks.
The sound is included in the stock bootanimation.zip. You can find it in the Android Revolution HD thread in the second post. As far as I know, that is.
The bootanimation.zip is just the graphics. It is not the sound. The sound is android_audio.mp3
Thanks for the sound. xD

Hi, I know you have to place android_audio.mp3 in /data/local but I've tried that and have had no success in hearing the sound on boot up. Any ideas?
You should copy it to /system/customize/resource

I'm trying to add sound to a custom boot animation that I am using. I have both the sound and the animation on my phone and in the correct folders, but the sound won't play during the boot animation. After searching I think it might be because the desc. file isn't written correctly, because originally the animation had no sound. Can anyone help me?
I have confirmed the correct mp3 plays when I navigate to /system/customize/resource and when I play SPC_animation_final.mp3 the mp3 I want plays.
Can anyone help?
I have rooted my HTC Desire HD with the Android Revolution rom.
Now the boot sound is gone, but how do i get the sound back again?
If you're not familiar with customizing ROMs, you should check out some guides before doing anything. But anyhow, this is how you change the sound:
1. Gain access to your actual 'ROM' drive on your phone. You can do it by for example downloading an application called Root Explorer from the Market.
2. Place the android_audio.mp3 on your SD-card. (Attached to the second post)
3. Open Root Explorer, locate the android_audio.mp3 and copy it.
4. Go to /data/local/ and tap the Mount R/W button on the top.
5. Then remove the audio file in the folder (if there is any) and paste the HTC audio file there.
6. The folder should now have two files: bootanimation.zip and your new (android_audio.mp3) audio file.
7. Restart the phone and it should work.

But just to be curious; why do you want the sound to be back?
I found the original HTC boot up sound, the file is attached to the message.

No problem. And just to clarify, the sound file can be anything, it doesn't have to be the HTC's one.

Some of us just like the original boot up sound
Hello from Greece,
I have flashed my HTC Desire with SuperNova rom v2.4.0.0 and I noticed that there isn't any boot sound during phone's startup...
But with root explorer I found an mp3 file at path... /data/local with the name "android_audio.mp3"...
In order to re-enable the boot sound with the original HTC startup sound what I can do...???
Do I must replace this existing file with the original one, although the two files have the same size...???
Or I must flash a signed file containing the sound I want from recovery mode...???
Thank you very much...!!!
No Luck

I removed the 1_Power_on.ogg file from system/media but I'm still hearing the sound everytime i boot the phone.
any thoughts?
I also had removed the bootanimation.zip file in system/media.
Your help is much appreciated.

You can always put your phone on vibrate before shutting it down to silence the boot sound next time you power on

Go into system/etc and remove the ogg and the wav
I was just wondering if changing the boot-up screen is the same(or similar) for the SG3 as this guide that I dug up(its from a completely different phone but I get the general idea). and if not, where do the custom animations and sound files go?
To install, follow these steps:
remove bootanimation.zip and SPC_animation_final from /system/customize/resource
remove bootanimation.zip and android_audio.mp3 from /system/media
adb push your downloaded bootanimation.zip and android_audio.mp3 to /system/media

Would I have to delete any files? there is no "android_audio.mp3" i am assuming the boot anim is "bootsamsumg.qmg" or "bootsamsungloop.qmg" with the sound file being in system/media/audio/ui "poweroff.wav" and "poweronn.ogg"
can anyone confirm?
I just recently tried to just place the "bootanimation.zip" through a root explorer into the corresponding directory. I restarted but it doesn't seem to be using the bootanimation zip which leads me believe that it is more complicated than previously stated.
If you copy them to /data/local they survive between roms as long as you don't wipe data.

Did you remember to set/change permissions on the Bootanimation.zip file after moving it?

You have to be using a ROM/kernal that supports bootanimation.zip. Most stock ones are still using the .qmg files, and if you are making your own bootanimation.zip make sure when you zip it you are not compressing it. It needs to be "store only" or it won't work.

Good info here. Thanks
I am trying to change the bootanimation as well, and so far nothing I've tried works. I have a boot animation that worked with my sensation and is originally from the nexus, I placed it in both the data/local and the system/media folders and both are set to rw/r/r.
I noticed my system/media file also has 2 samsung .qmg(?) files in it, should these be deleted or renamed?
I'm currently using xquisitV70 with whatever kernel it includes, do I need to flash a custom kernel for this to work?
If so, any favorites for the s3?
Your Kernal has to support it.
I use ROM Toolbox to do it. It works perfectly and it's very easy to use.

Has zip to enable the use of bootanimation.zip file, i have only tested it on frosty v5...hope it works for you.
Thanks, the kernel was my issue apparently. I installed trinity kernel and now my boot animation is working perfectly.
Does anyone know if AOKP supports boot and shutdown sounds? I put the correct .ogg files in the system/media/audio/ui dir, and no luck.
CLOSE THIS THREAD, problem solved! Wrong place anyway. Sorry!
Wait how did you do it!? I cant figure it out!
