Is there any way to do this in cm7? I know yyou can do it in stock HTC sense.

I know a special trick to boost the wifi signal on ALL roms.....
Get a repeater, or move your wifi closer to your phone.

How do you boost the WiFi on stock sense other than getting a repeater or moving closer to the router?
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA App
In the wifi settings you press menu and there's an option to boost the wifi strength.

Sorry guys if this is a bumped thread.. Couldn't find one that helped me at all.
Alright, I would like to know, What is a kernal. Ive flashed almost every rom possible but i havn't done anything with kernals.
Thanks
-Austin
I've heard it stated as "a bridge between hardware and software." They control your processor speed for certain circumstances (screen off) and what voltage your processor gets at certain speeds. It can also come with different things like audio boost and enhanced multitouch capabilities (3+ finger input). Just remember to flash a sense kernel if you're on a sense or senseless ROM, or an aosp kernel for an aosp ROM. I always wipe dalvik cache and cache partition before installing a kernel, just to make sure theres going to be no problems.

So what your saying is , different kernals do different things twords performance ? And what is cm 7 rc2?

Correct, there are some overclocked kernels and some that are stock speeds, plus all of the different tweaks that can be applied. And CM7 RC2 is a ROM. CyanogenMod (ROM name) 7 (version) RC2 (release candidate). Its a pretty popular ROM.

Lmao no man, im running cm7, love it to death. What is CM7, aosp ? I know its senseless.
So not to jack your thread but its highly related to the question I've been asking today. I understand the description of a kernel above but then what would be the main differences between the kernel and the Rom of a device? Are kernels simply used to modify aspects of the phone such as processor speeds or do they also have something to do with the UI?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I dont think they have any effect on the UI
So besides just processor speed, what else could a different kernel affect?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
CM7 is AOSP.
Kernels don't affect the UI, they control processor speed mainly, but they can also come with patches that boost audio levels and enable fast charging or trickle-charge (SBC [when you charge your phone normally, it gets to 100% then stops charging regardless of being plugged in and runs off of the battery power til about 90% ish resulting in the infamous dropping 10% battery in like 5 minutes scenario. This mod enables the phone to drop its charging current once it hits 100% instead of turning off completely, maintaining the battery at 100%.]). Pretty nifty stuff

So the name of that mod is sbc?

I'm not exactly sure about the BEST, cause different things happen to people when using the same kernel, but I've been using chads incredikernel from 3/18/11. No problems with it so far.

I heard that kernel had smartsss governor ? What's that do .
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App
Yep, it does. I'm not too familiar with what it does, but I've heard it basically favors lower CPU speeds, saving you some extra battery life. I've yet to notice any lag or slowness from running that governor. I get pretty good battery life with this kernel too, so I figured I'd stick with it.

Would calling a phone a car chassis, a ROM the motor and a kernal the driver be a good analogy?
I'm I'm currently running destroyer v2 based on cm7 and wifi reception is terrible. Always dropping out on me. Been tempted to try the latest titanium kernel to see if that would help. But before I do that I thought I would get other peoples opinions on what to do..

Try out the new Tiamat Kernel. I've noticed a slight improvement in WIFI range, and a stellar improvement in battery life.

stroll over to the the development section and check them all out for yourself and yes you can switch out kernels. Also there is an app called kernel manager to check out kernels. One more thing its obvious you are not a chronic flasher like a lot of us so please remember nandroid and read up- As the saying goes here "Google is your Friend". Especially all the OP's of kernels and roms... hate to see you brick your device... Happy flashing

hmmm, can you prove this fact. i have aosp rom now and use my wifi while at home since it uses less battery than mobile data, but the wifi stays connected, full bars at all times im actually able to walk out to my truck and stay connected to my wifi where as before i rooted and was connected to wifi, i would lose wifi connection once i stepped out the door.

What rom are you using?
My ookla speed test went from 500-600k to 1.2- 1.7 mbps...
What gives? The slower speed were when I was running CM7 nightlies and evo deck roms which are also aosp.. Both CM and tiamat kernels were used on CM based roms and MIUI
All I know is that I am very pleased... but why the boost
I confirmed the a coworkers unrooted sprint net speed was nearly half of mine on break today.. Still using the ookla speediest app.
I'd rather have faster 3g than battery hogging wimax. But why not both?

Good luck with that kind of find...
If you're looking for a sense-like feel, why not just go with a sense ROM? I personally use Synergy ROM and everything works super fast, no issues, and service seems to be better than when I had CM7 on it. That and sense ROMs also make full use of the phone's hardware, such as the camera...
The support and extras are a pretty sweet deal, as well.

Signal strength is not universal. You can have the same signal strength on your phone but it will display as a different number of bars based purely on your ROM. CM seems to be one of those ROMs where I have a really good signal yet I'm only showing about 2 or 3 bars. Its just the way the ROM displays it. Flashing another ROM and getting more bars doesnt mean your signal strength is any stronger or weaker at all.
Also, if you're looking for a sense feel then just get a sense ROM. There are a lot out there to choose from. I'm actually thinking of running Boot Manager on my phone and flashing a sense ROM alongside CM7 so that I can make use of the abilities of the sense ROMs when I need to.
I switch between Fresh 4.22 and CM7 pretty regularly and love battery life/performance of both. I use Tiamats 4.1 SBC on CM7 and the stock kernel on Fresh, although it would be choice if there were a Sense SBC kernel.

I keep coming back to Mik's roms. On MikG now and love it. Battery life is great too but then I use all the app tricks I can find. App2SD / DroidWall / SetCPU / StartUp Auditor. If your signal strength is bad just call Sprint and ask for an Airvanna. Once it's hooked up you should be up to 4/5 bars constantly. That's been my experience.
Have you tried team nocturnals merge Rom its sense based with an soap feel its pretty nice if you are trying to have your cake and eat it too

So I have a quick question for people running cm7. I am running cm7 with aveon 6 kernal. I was just wondering what over clock speeds do you guys use?

Dl no frills CPU and test for yoursef, each phone runs defferently and with no frills u can set as boot but if it is not a proper shutdown it will not set just in case it was due to the oc/ UV. Hope this helps and I run 1.5 ghz
Tap'n on miui incredible 2
Plus one on NoFrills. I'm using Aeroevans .7bfs kernel set at 1.2ghz and using the Sio I/O on nightly 133. This works well for me. Good balance of speed and battery life.

OCing over 1.2 is useless unless you want battery to die fast
Running tiamat 1ghz gives me 30hrs on moderate
1.2 about lil more than a day
Tiamat is supposedly come out with new kernel this weekend or next.

With cm7 I actually like to underclock to around 800 with interactiveX. I have hit 1.9 stable using the smooth ass governor, and when I want to over clock I usually go for 1.2 or 1.4
