does anyone know of a good free wifi calling app that is useable in canada? most wifi calling apps are either not avalible in canada or you need to pay. thanks
Wifi Calling apps exist for everyone? I was under the impression that it was only possible if the carrier supported it (a.k.a. T-Mobile).

I did NOT create this app and only take credit for finding and testing it.
So far this is the ONLY WiFi Tether app I tried that works on my T-Mobile Galaxy S4.
I tested it by linking to my Asus TF700 tablet.
1-Click WiFi Tether No Root is a FREE app available on Google Play Store.
Best of all, it does not require ANY tinkering with profile settings.
Just install it,
run it,
click ON
and then search for the WiFi signal from your other portable device or PC.
My Asus tablet found the signal and locked on in less than 5 seconds.
Note: There is also a Pro version available for $9.98 that offers WPA security if you need or want that added feature.
If you appreciate my find, simply click THANKS so I know this wasn't a wasted thread post!

Use firefox with an addon called User Agent Switcher set to android and you'll be fine.
The way T-Mobile tries to stop you from tethering without paying extra (which is total bs by the way) is by sniffing out user agents from things that aren't androids.
I thought tmo allows free hot spot service now for the $50+ plan

I'll quote exactly what it says on my T-Mobile Galaxy S4 (model SGH-M919) when I clicked the Help menu about using Wi-Fi hotspot:
"To use your phone's hotspot capability, you must have the Smartphone Mobile HotSpot service added to your rate plan."
They key word here is "added" which means it is NOT free unlimited hotspot service.
Here's what it says on the T-Mobile website page about this service:
"T-Mobile's Simple Choice Rate Plans all include Smartphone Mobile HotSpot up to their data limit, except for Unlimited 4G data which includes 500MB of Smartphone Mobile HotSpot. You can add additional capped Smartphone Mobile HotSpot usage: $10 per month per line for 3GB or $20 per month for 4GB."
The FREE app I mention in the OP is FREE. Whether or not T-Mobile can & will
be able to monitor the use of the 1-Click free app is yet to be determined.

Anyone else try and just fire it up anyway? My first generation MyTouch4G had free Hotspot. On my new S4 I turned it on and got the above message but it still created a hotspot and didn't require me to commit to a plan change. However my laptop doesn't even see it and my old MyTouch sees but fails to connect.
Downloaded and tried that app. No luck. Laptop sees the Wifi and connected but no internet access (Limited or no connectivity) Old Mytouch saw it but was unable to connect.

I used to see in my T-mobile My Account app, that i had 500 MB of tethered data to be used, but now that i have the S4, I don't see the option. Go figure, I upgrade, and I lose my ability to tether.
Will this work if Im rooted. Thanks

Wondering the same........
Can anyone confirm a working hotspot app for the Verizon HTC One that allows free hotspot using phone data? For the rooted folks, can anyone confirm if loading a ROM allows for free native hotspot? I'm considering to upgrade to the HTC One from a Galaxy Nexus but I want to make sure I'm covered for hotspot because it's an important feature for me. My wifi tablet is useless on the road without it.

FoxFi works for me.
Yes, +1 for FoxFi, works great. Although it doesn't re-enable WiFi. But that's a minor nuisance.
I rooted my HTC One and have Wireless Tether and it is working. If you are referring to the native Verizon Tethering App, I did see a post in another forum that discussed there is a way to get the Verizon app to tether without a tethering plan if you have a rooted phone, but there was no link or directions on how to do it.
FoxFi working perfectly here too

I'm gonna point out I had an issue with FoxFi today. I had to uninstall and reboot and reinstall. Seems that VPN connection it uses seems to inadvertantly stop working. I'm assuming that's what it uses to trick the mobile hotspot to turn on.

Thanks guys. Looks like FoxFi will work for my needs. :good:

What I meant by native hotspot is enabling the feature within Android settings, no app needed. Normally I think the carrier can detect and charge using this method on the stock ROM. However I remember people telling me that they can use it undetected after installing a custom ROM.
T-Mobile surprised me when I was offered unlimited LTE, capped at around 4800GB of data. I have rooted my phone and I'm running VirginROM (4.3 Vanilla), and the default WiFi hotspot option doesn't work. I get data when my phone is on HSPA+, but an LTE connection will just not send data to my laptop or PS Vita. Are there any reliable apps or methods to turn my phone into a LTE hotspot?

Carrier not supported for that app, sucks since it has good reviews. And the other app the poster shared below doesn't seem to work either. Anyone else have reliable working tether apps?

The app that comes with it works just fine. Simply pay more for the extra data your using.
The unlimited data plan your paying for is for your phone only, and not for your phone and anything you can connect to it.
I feel like T Mobile Customer service just replied to my post. I know that i can pay more and have more tethering. I just want to have unlimited tethering

I would like to know the same thing. That 5 or 7GB cap for the unlimited data plan is completely useless.
You wont get any good answers here...check other forums/websites.

It use to work in the past on my HTC one m7 but not any more.
It turns out USB and Bluetooth tethering works. Bluetooth is a bit slow but USB is really fast.
I have rooted and rom'd my M8, however I cannot even get the native app to work. Seems like that the HTC sync services on my phone don't work. HTC sync does not recognize my phone. Any ideas?
I have a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S3 SGH-T999 which supports wifi calling and am looking to flash a ROM onto it to use newer apps like Periscope, but I NEED wifi calling to work.
Anyone know of a really stable ROM that 100% supports wifi calling? Thanks.
As far as I am aware (and I could be incorrect) but only stock does wifi calling. Apps like hangouts can though.

Ahhhh OK I misunderstood. Sorry about that. I have an s3 (t999l) running Octo and it seems to work for all of them. On occasion you have to reboot when the camera hangs but it works well.

but you can still do wifi calling? like can i make calls to someone like normal using wifi calling? not using dedicated apps.
