gestures on homescreen - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry if this is already out there but I can't seem to find it or find out how to do this.
But is there a way to get gestures or even a gesture search/app shortcut on the actual desktop of android without clicking on any widget or shortcut. Or even a multitouch gesture app that when three fingers are on the screen it opens a program.
or am I just comply a wall here?
Any thoughts or ideas on this ?
I think it would be pretty sweet and easy access to programs this way

This is not the area to be posting this, but I don't see why it couldn't be.
ADWLauncher (at least in CyanogenMod) already has a couple basic gestures you can use. Swiping up and down can be modified to perform nearly any action (including opening an app). I have swiping up open the app list.

This belongs in q&a. Also u prolly get more answers there.
But like the other Guy said. Adw does gestures but i don't think that stock aosp or sense launchers do this.

[Q] App drawer

Here again with another question: is there a better app drawer than the stock one? I saw one with alphabetical divisions, but don't remember where... Any clue?

LauncherPro. Better app drawer, and better overall home launcher. IMO
go Launcher has a nice app drawer.

That sounds a little bit like the drawer that LG put on their handsets, which has user-definable sections in the menu.
Also, +1 for LauncherPro.
An excellent little app IMO.
I already installed launcherpro and I like it, but its app drawer hasn't more functions than the stock one (you can simply hide some apps) it just looks cooler .
I'm looking for something more customizable, as the one from LG.

You could try ADW Launcher.
But, to be honest, apart from the LG stock launcher, I'm not sure there's anything out that that'll really do what you want.
Thanks step666 I'm starting to think the same thing. So at the moment I'll keep the launcherpro menu with some apps hided.

Adw is a good option if you want to separate apps and launcher pro plus is hardly any better from my limited experience with both ( about 3 days for each)

What some of you seem to be forgetting/missing about LauncherPro is that it's main purpose is not to overhaul the App Drawer - it's not called AppDrawerPro.
What it's designed for, it's very good at IMO.
As for ADW, a friend recommended it to me but I found it to be very poor in comparison to LauncherPro.
Yes, it has more features, especially with regards to the App Drawer, but they're not all that well implemented.

[Poll] Your solution for the "Rotate" topic

We all know that by default you can activate the rotation of the screen but the main desktop and the App Drawer won't do that. So in few words what's your solution?
Leave it as stock
Use the True Tablet UI Patch
Use a launcher
Use TTUI Patch + Launcher

Really curious to know what you have done!
I use nova launcher.

Holo Launcher seems to do the trick you are looking for. Matter of fact, most of the third party launchers would let you do landscape desktop and app drawer.

Looking at these posts looks like no one used the "True Tablet UI Patch" or the stock launcher....

yup. the thread title's "Rotate topic", not true tablet UI. for tablet UI, u change it the DPI to 160. but i dont like that. too small screen.
but yeah, this doesn't rotate the lock screen though. not that i can't swipe up/down instead of left/right.......

Actually the topic is "your solution for..." the rotate topic So checking answers looks like most of the people just use another laucher.
But the one you posted in few words is for what? I mean for the way I read your answer this doesn't make anything different than the "rotate" funcion in the notification bar. Or it also allows to rotate the main desktop and the app drawer?

Actually, the funny thing is I have added this mod. It doesn't rotate the time on the lock screen but you still swipe to the right to unlock ... (toward bottom if you were in portrait mode)...no dpi changes or any other mods needed. I'm on rooted, unlocked stock ROM.
What I really wanna know is where I can mod the home screen to scroll continuously...I haven't looked yet. I have the setting on my phone, but haven't played with the N7 enough to find it yet.
I use Apex. Paid for the Pro version of it, over Nova, since Apex offered... less features for the Pro version (in other words, Nova had a lot of stuff in Pro that was non-existent in the free, and I don't like feeling like I "have" to pay in order to use an app efficiently...)
I used launcher.force_enable_rotation=true inside a new local.prop file in /data. I always use portrait mode and a pin in the lock screen, so portrait only in lock screen is fine by me.
My biggest issue was when in landscape, if I went back into home I would have to rotate from landscape to portrait, then back into landscape and if I pressed a button by mistake again, back into portrait.
I tried the change build.prop dpi settings but didn't like tablet UI for this little thing..... and I don't want to squint.
Tried ultimate rotation control which works great, it also rotates the lockscreen, but costs something like £2 after a 7 trial vs what I use now.

So you paid for less features in general out of principal?
Or did Apex have more free features compared to Nova, and the Pro versions equalled things out on both sides?

I don't know why some of your options are listed, like paranoidandroid rom, wtf.
Most custom roms include a landscape launcher. This shouldn't be that complicated. The stock launcher simply doesn't do landscape without tweaks. If you run stock, just download Nova or Apex.
I run EOS and its built in tablet mode with Apex.

Is there an unlocked version of touchwiz?

Is there a touchwiz rom that is essentially stock but is unlocked so I can move my app drawer button and the number of rows and columns of icons? These are really the only things I want to change. Thanks in advanced community.
i remember for my gs2 there was a modded tw launcher that u could fully customize, even had themes.vit was called i believe "twiz launcher 4.5" I'm pretty sure it runs on our device. just do a forum search for tw 4.5 or similar to that and ull find it. it was very cool.

Hmm, if you can't find what your looking for, try apex launcher.

Search TweakWiz. Puts the app drawer in the middle and changes the grid layout to utilize more of the screen real estate.
Edit: I was feeling nice, so I searched for you, as I remembered it being linked in the Wicked ROM thread. Here's the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30471519
Just a side note about searching, for those who use the app, you can open any thread in the browser using the menu or tapping a post, and the search feature once in the browser view works great. You can search the thread itself, or "breadcrumbs" at the top of the page to go back and search a specific forum(like Q&A, Development etc). I know the app's search feature isn't very good, so just thought I'd share.

I hate Go Launcher. It used to be great. Then they switched over to GetJar to download themes, and they have Free to download but pay to use themes. It's a huge mess. I personally like Nova or Apex. Although now that ADW has updated their app, I've been using that. I have to say it works pretty well, though each time I reboot I have to reset it as the default launcher.
I love the stock launcher with a few exceptions; I don't understand why they made the pages a 4x4 grid. The Note fully justifies a 5x5 grid. I wish that the other launchers gave you the ability to quick-scroll between pages in the homescreen and in the dock like the stock touchwiz launcher does.
I changed my DPI to 280 and use Go Launcher with a 6x6 grid and works very well. Now the stock Samsung keyboard and dialer did not scale correctly, but I use Swipe and the Go Dialer.
Adw has gotten as lot better and after a haitus from it I'm back and it's better than it had ever been

Well, I finally invested the time in learning enough about Lightning Launcher. It's really COMPLETELY different than other launchers I've tried, which is what I like about it. I've tried Apex, ADW, Nova and briefly touched GO -- they're all pretty much the same -- all pretty good. Lightning is kind of a big pain to figure out and it doesn't give the option for a scrollable dock, but you can pin, resize, rotate and arrange all icons, widgets and folder labels in whatever way you want, all on a zoomable, scrollable page. You can't really apply themes, but you can make up whatever you want. Your screen is really like a window onto an infinite desktop that you have full control over. It doesn't have the fancy animation options that the others do, so there's not a lot of "Wow" factor for others to see, but I have everything accessible from a single screen that doesn't feel too cluttered with icons. Lightning is free from Play and doesn't require root.
FWIW, here's a screen shot of my home page -- The two rows of icons at the bottom are pinned as well as the Google search widget at the top. Everything else moves and zooms in or out behind the pinned stuff. If I want, I can place other items above, below, or to the sides and just scroll to them. Lightning does support other pages that you can switch to with a two-finger swipe, and I use them as sort of a sandbox for trying things out, but everything I want is on my main home page.
I've been using atom launcher for a while first on my s2 and now on my note2. It will let you create folders which is nothing new but you can scroll with your finger or with the S Pen. Also you can vary the opacity of the icons on the home screen if you want to keep some what of a clean look. I'll post pics to better explain.

I'm pretty sure I've tried them all, and seem to always revert back to Nova Pro. Its fast, stable, has nice features without be gimmicky like Go and some of the others. Bottom line I want something that works that isn't at burden on system resource, Nova fits that bill.

Halo/PIE/Torch possible on sense?

Hey all, it's my understanding that Halo and PIE are built to work on AOSP based roms. I would love to go back to the stability and bonus features of sense, but having to have the menu button eyesore at the bottom of most apps is a deal-breaker. Is there any possibility of getting these addons working on a sense based rom? If not, are there any apps with similar features that can be used with sense?
I would also like to add a torch option on the quick settings menu if that could be done. I realize I can download a flashlight app, but I have been spoiled with having quick access to it on iOS 7 and AOSP.
Flash bonestock. It has a torch toggle, and also go to settings, display, and check "longpress home for menu"

Floating Notifications is an app that is as close as you can get to Halo. There is a free trial period for about 30 days.
As far as pie control, I think there is a launcher called LMT Launcher in the play store that has a pie-like fixture.

LMT launcher works, but it's not in the play store. it's on XDA though. just search for it.
pie control (which is in the play store) works as well, just not as neat as LMT.
sometimes, though, with LMT, it takes a few tries to get an app to start. it's annoying. if pie control showed the time and other notifications like LMT does, it'd be so much better.
Both of these look good. Do they allow you to disable the stock menu button?

Replying here instead of in your thread in case anyone else is searching for this answer.
I am loving the rom so far, but I have two questions. The menu bar is gone almost everywhere, but it's still present in dolphin browser. Is there any way to fix that? It doesn't show at all on AOSP. LMT launcher is every bit as good as pie and the menu button being there prevents it from working properly.
I also don't seem to have a torch/flashlight widget in the quick settings. There is an app though which I can make work for me if there's no way to get it in quick settings. Just a minor personal preference.
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I got the menu bar removed by changing a setting under display and gestures. It has the unfortunate side effect of making a long press on the home key open the menu as well, but it's still better than the always-present menu button.
