I'm seeing a lot of people running CM7 with tiamat and receiving awesome scores on quadrant. I currently have my DINC2 stock rooted with freezed bloatware and im only getting around 1500. I would like to OC it by installing tiamat, but keeping my htc sense 2.1.
Has anyone had any luck or should I just install CM7 and tiamat kernel? I would like to keep the Sense UI because I think it looks so sexy

Tiamat is an AOSP only kernel. If you installed it on sense you'd get bootloops.
If you poke around in the dev section, jcase's gingerbread kernel has 1.6GHz OC.

Tiamat only works with aosp based roms. Won't work with sense

If you want really high quadrant score go for the cm7 rom. Nothing can touch this rom when it comes to speed and benchmarks. Cm7 is the speed king
if you are gonna root, theres little reason to stay stock
there are several roms *close* to stock that add enhancements (like reboot options) that many would want
Thanks for the help guys. I'm kinda new to the droid community and wasn't aware of the differences between kernels and what not. Is there that much of a difference between the Sense UI and CM7?
There is a huge difference between sense and CM7. Sense uses the HTC Sense UI and CM7 uses the vanilla android UI. Sense is pretty, CM7 isn't at first, but can be made to look just like sense. Check out the screen shot thread in the themes subthread, lots of examples of what you can do.

So I finally got my wipe to upgrade from her dumbphone to a smartphone (Droid Inc.) and I'm looking into what are the best ROMS available *if* she lets me hack her phone.
I'm new to this arena since I have a Droid X so I want to know from people's experiences what is the best ROM for the DInc? From doing a quick look through it seems like CyanogenMod 6, SkyRaider Sense or Redemptive rEVOlution might be possible candidates.
I know the CyanogenMod ROM is one of the big ones but I'd like to keep the Sense UI on her phone to make it as easy as possible to use for her (and I do like HTC's overlay.)
So any thoughts? Opinions? Suggestions?
Try out redemptive revolution 1.9. Good battery life and very stable.

I use SkyRaider 3.3.2 with LauncherPro Plus and GOTO as a lock screen and have no problems. I too love HTC Sense, just decided to play with LPP.
Heads up: There's a "General" Incredible subforum for these sorts of posts.
*make sure you know what version of the dinc she has, amoled or slcd, some roms and recovery won't work without fixes* that said redemption rom is currently my fave, otherwise virtuous rom. theres also red raven and feather but wouldn't recommend those for your wife. I believe theres a rom that sum1 made with a pink theme somewheres also but don't quote me on that. if you do any of these look for the new leaked stock kernel, has a lot better battery life and charges in half the time.

I love Cyanogen, if you're looking for Vanilla ROM this is a great choice. I'm using CM6.0.2 right now and I love it. CM6.1 RC1 should be dropping very soon, it's not 100% stable but Cyanogen himself it could be used as your daily driver

I'd stay away from the Desire HD and Z ports until the camera issues are resolved.
I'm using redemptive revolution 1.9 and loving it right now. It just got updated with new framework so its the latest and greatest in my book!
I love the Desire Z port from IncredibleDoes but some people need the camera or would like to have the cam, if that's the case try SkyRaider 3.3.2 its the best one out there for me.
Uncommon Sense
I will stick with Uncommon Sense Rom, its the most Stable free bug HTC Incredible Rom, the feels is likely Sense OEM manufacturer, I did not find any lack at all with the exception of APk Drawer little lag scrolling up. as well is the best of the two world android/Sense blended.
All the rest of the HTC Incredible Rom have several problems that have to be address and for sure Updates will be available to Roms like Sky raider and Virtuous.
Most ROMs are good, but also aren't 100% done. To be honest, if you wife uses her phone a lot and isn't a tinkerer just keep it the way it is lol.
Once camera issues are resolved the desire ports will pretty much be in a league better than any of the custom roms based on earlier sense. I would also strongly recommend miui except that many of the really useful sense widgets have no equivalent ones in aosp roms. I would recommend aosp roms only for people who are ok with constantly tinkering with their phones, not for your wife who will probably want.something that just works.
Until then redemptive, virtuous, skyraider are good choices.

I have tried a bunch of Roms and all of them have their strong points. This is all a matter of personal preference.
That being said, I would recommend Virtuous with the custom kernel or new stock kernel and here are the reasons:
1. It is very stable and fast.
2. Good battery life.
3. Nothing is removed or modded that cannot be readded or turned back on using the tools the developer provided (Virtuous Buddy).
4. Great dev support.
This is not the only Rom I use, but it is definitely the only Rom I would put on my wifes phone.

I would say virtuous or the newest leaked deoxed stock ROM... both using the newest stock kernel.
Only roms I would consider for the girlfriend....
Personally I would just do a few mods to the newest stock ROM minus the bloat.

I switch between Redemption and Redemptive Revolution.
I like Redemption with Kings BFS #5 kernel the best, amazing battery life! It just "feels" good to me.
Wow nice! Thanks for all the recommendations! I don't think I've heard of Virtuous so I'll check that one out.
Also to commenton the tinkering part, she definitely isn't into tinkering...in fact she complains when I tinker with my phone for too long LOL
Going ASOP isn't really an option since the base Android UI is lacking without some extra apps so the Sense UI is perfect for her. I do plan on (obviously) rooting the phone and setting up SetCPU but any additional improvements custom ROMS make are always nice to have.

It really depends on what you want. For sense based roms, I am particularly fond of Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo. It's based on the Evo framework, has an incredible development team, and is able to use many evo and incredible options. Just take a stroll through the development thread and check out how many separate threads are devoted to the rom.
Ziggy's kernels, Lou's kernels, and the incredikernels are some of the more popular and widest used kernels, and for good reason. If you can't find what you're looking for between those three, then you won't find it.
Good luck my friend
Thanks a lot bro.... will check it out ASAP and of course miui that rom is just sick all around...

Of course there's always Cyanogen if you like to go 'vanilla'. Version 7 is out (CM7) which is a Gingerbread build. It's really stable and the fastest rom I've used to date.

I'm using cm7 nightly #2 with the 2.6.37 incredikernel and it has awesome battery life but I believe the highest overclock is 1113MHz, so nothing crazy but you'll still get great performance
the invisiblek kernel is supposed to be nice too but I haven't tried it
Ive used quite a few different ROM's and I used Sense(less) rEVOlution 2.0 for a few months with great success. However, I just switched to Incredibly Re-Engineered v2.3.1 and I must say this is my favorite ROM so far.
I'm loving CyanogenMod 7 with just the included kernel. Fastest ROM I've flashed by far and getting anywhere from 12-30 hours depending on usage. Can't wait for future updates.
If you like Sense, I honestly liked Virtuous and used it for a while. Extremely stable and fairly customizable. Any Sense ROM is likely to drain your battery a little quicker, Rosie is needy.

Myn's Warmtwopointtwo has a very clean feel and i have been running it for a while now. I've also run Virtuous, Redemptive, CM7. Myn's is the best imo thus far. Lou's #9 is great. I just switched to ziggy's beta 12111 and it is a little faster , but battery life hasn;t been fully tested. also Juice defender is a great app to get you through the day.

I have to agree with this quote. I have been running v2.3.1 for a few days now and I have really taken a shine to it. I am running it with incredikernel and it has been 'incredibly' stable and fast. Sorry for the pun, but it was just incredible.
incredikernel is the way to go.
I run SR 3.5 because of stability, clean and fast.
CM7 RC1.5 #5 is stable and fast imo. Gotta give it a go!
im looking for a rom that is the closest to the stock desire Z rom on a unbranded desire Z.. im in the process of getting a tmobile G2.. and i dont like the stock fw..
by far the best i have come across is Virtuous ROM as it is sense, but faster and tweaks to be better, and with the advanced kernel you can overclock to 1.5 ghz! the only downside is its froyo 2.2

Why is that a downside? What is so much better about Gingerbread than Froyo? I've tried out just about all the GB based ROMs out for the G2, and I don't believe it's better than Froyo. Just a different look that doesn't seem to add speed/responsiveness to the phone.
Virtuous is a great Sense based ROM. Period.
gingerbread seems to be quite a bit faster for me, dunno it might just be me, and I really like the changes to the ui

you could try gingersense as well, i liked it but ditched it for ultimate droid now.
Well if you want the closest to stock then definitely go Virtuous like the above poster stated. But if you want something a bit faster with a significantly longer battery life you have to try TrollogenMod 0.9.1. Its Gingerbread Sense with the Sense 3.0 lockscreen which is pretty fun.

The new virtuos fusion is amazing. 3.0 is pretty much the creme de le creme. Hts dev team does a good job and rmk is a god amongst swarms of devs. I have ran pretty much all the sense roms and even though there are a few minor glitches in 3.0 I will be using it as a daily rom.

Besides being in the wrong section, miui is a great asop rom. If you want a little sense 3.0 check out newt's sensation. Rmk has a debloated version of the latest ota gingerbread if you fancy something more stock.

If you need GSM for international travel, select carefully. Most ROM's don't support it well or at all in many cases. If you are CDMA only, your choices are more solid.
I've tried miui and cm7 and in my opinion cm7 is just a snappier and better ROM. Just my opinion though

CM7? Which one is that?
BTW, as to why she might want a custom rom, speed...right?
Really all of the roms out now are pretty nice...
Being for a girl I'd think shed lean toward liking miui or a sense 3.0 based roms like virtuous or mikroms incredible sensation. The latest version from newtoroot (incredible sensation) has given me the best results. Very fast and stable and newt has been very responsive with the few quirks. by quirks I mean that his version is based on sense 2.1 so there was more he had to do to get the framework to align. It is definitely good enough to be a daily driver now.
Cm7 and omgb/omfgb are probably the fastest roms out. I really like omfgb combined with the tiamat kernel but cm7 is similarly great with more customization options (most of which your wife would likely never use). Omgb/omfgb is very back to basic, pure Android experience.
Rmks gingersense has been mostly my go-to though. Similar to stock, debloated, customizable. Pretty much a set it and forget it option with no issues. The only thing that aosp based roms have that I have an issue with is the incall volume. Tiamats kernel improves this a lot but still not quite where stock sense is in volume level.

AOSP all the way.
CM7 latest nightly + Honeybread theme + Supercharger Script + Tiamat kernel 4.07 -75mv
Its definitely personal opinion really.
Most roms support 4G, etc. IIRC, MIUI doesnt support 4G yet but its in the works.
The choice mainly boils down to Sense vs AOSP. Sense 3 is quite appealing, visually (though I only played with it for about 10minutes =p). All in all, each has their pros.
Try out a few and see which You like the most.

Please stop saying it's in the works. It isn't, and won't be until they release the source code or they implement 4G in China. I'm not trying to be nasty, but it's just not happening anytime soon from what we know.
I use MIUI, and it's the best even without 4G.
I use CM7 rom, never look back.
MIUI
I use MIUI just because it's simple and it has a build-in tether, but don't like it because it doesn't support 4G and probably a whole lot of other stuff.

I am using this too. I was using the synergy rls but it became real unstable out of nowhere. I cannot blame the ROM it might have been the v6 script and 3g script. I have never had an issue with MikG. And I just 86'ed the scripts.

I'm currently using CM7 RC1, with tiamat 4.07. Love it but some battery drain.
My eye has been out on the new 3.5 sense roms tho.
SalvageMod 1.4 with Tiamat 3.3.7 kernel with v6 supercharger installed.
I love it!
I'm new to rooting and ROMs but I'll just throw out my noob/extremely novice experience over the past 2 weeks.
I've flashed CM7, Synergy, Kinged Shooter, and now I'm using SOS 1.9.
The only one I didn't keep on for at least 24 hours was the Shooter ROM . I had all sorts of lag issues (admittedly it was probably something I did and not the developer). CM7 is nice and I wouldn't hesitate to go back. I LOVED Synergy. Very nice ROM. It's a big ROM with lots of nice add ons and features. SOS is great if you want bare bones stock ROM. It has been incredibly fast, no lag and battery life isn't budging in spite of my increased activity re-installing apps/themes and what not.
I'll probably stick with SOS for a bit since it seems to be running so smoothly. If I go back to one it will most definitely be Synergy. It's been my favorite so far.
I'm using Nocturnal Bliss beta v.FIVE from King, Team Nocturnal, and several others who I can't name off the top of my head with ChopSuey 9.2.6 for the kernel. It's Android 2.3.4 with 3.5 Sense. It runs a lot better than any Sense 3.0 ROMs I've tried.
I don't think 4g works(don't have a lot in my area so not as important)
USB doesn't work(I use WiFi Explorer pro or recovery mount)
Need to partition SD card for more room(Darktremor's a2sd baked in)
Other wise it is a good ROM.

Am surprised I have kept it for so long as I am an avid AOSP fan, more particularly SalvageMod. Although with the Chop Suey kernel this thing is killing for battery life and smoothness. Just ran v6 super charger script today, hoping to notice a difference i'm battery even more.

Wow!! Thanks for the responses. So many difference of opinions but that's what makes this site great..so the MIUI I keep seeing a debate about 4G....Ive read a lot on it very nice Rom....CM7 is what I use the 7.0.3 release for Evo. I'm using Tiamat kernel. Is there a better kernel for CM7? I thought of flashing the sbc kernel by Tiamat...I'm going to check out other roms as well.....this is fantastic. what is so different about MIUI?? It looks like an iPhone set up for android.
