720p recording - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

HI all.. how life goin?
I have a question.. I'm going off to vacation tomorrow and I need a rom which (better if more) saves battery (due to the long way around 20 hours to my destination) and (for sure) has 720p recording.. i download opendesire yesterday but not satisfied at all...I have CM nightly now runnin and i tried copying the camera app into the device but it get me FCs... so I need a complete rom change.. anyone knows a good rom?
I was going to use InsertCoin HD but really in doubt with versions.. all versions and fakes around the net.. so please help with a good rom!

Only sense roms support 720p recording. Avoid ports as all of them stretch the recording in portrait. Probably safest bet to flash something based on latest RUU. Or FroYo. It never misses but it can't record in 30fps, and about gingerbread I'm not sure.

Im not interested in Froyo.. I only want Gingerbread.. and I'm sure that non-Sense gingerbread roms support 720p.. (like the OpenDesire).
i don't like sense. idk why? haha

It says it has 720p support. Have you tried it?

yes i have tried but laggy recording.

I reckoned it doesn't work. Try insertcoin stock 2.3 and see if it records any better.

i dont know like the others, but i try many GB 2.3.3 sense roms (insert coin 1.1.1, SGBS 2.3, Pyramid v7, Sense o Villain 1.3) and non of them record without laggz, audio ouf of sync etc in 720p mode
i think for now is no GB sense 2.3.3 rom capable to record in 720p without problems

Desire HD or Z ROM

Wow! The camera is now working for the new sense.
The new official versions of those new sense roms will come out very soon (Robociks RCMixHD and Desire Z Port).
Now, I am confused :
To rotate or not to rotate?
Anyone can help me decide?
Personally I don't like the look of it in Landscape so I'll say HD
Not followed the camera progress for a while so if it's working I'll be rooting again soon
I was going to ask the same question!. I can live without 720p for the time being - seems a minor fix compared to actually getting the camera working in these ROM's.
I am currently running Teppics ROM and i do like it but i am very tempted to try another!
Can i just ask what is the rotating part you are talking about? - I have not kept up with the ports until the camera issue was resolved?

The HTC Sense can be viewed in a landscape mode in the Z ROM.

to be honest, the rotating kind of annoys me, so i'm a HD rom man.
the MT4G rom is also interesting and worth a look if you want to try something a bit different. really fast too.
Hmmm....it seems rotation is not to everyone liking..
720p is also a minor problem for me as long as I have the camera working because I need the camera for emergency use when I don't have my Panasonic FZ38 with me.
Is there a speed difference between Z and HD?
My Mistake, ignore this reply
*This*
Never use 720p as it's terrible on the Desire so it doesn't bother me - just a working camera will do the job!!
All flashed and working fine
aaa said:
If I am not mistaken, MT4G is a non-Sense ROM.
I have tried Cynogen about two weeks ago, I like the speed but I got the impression that I was not holding an HTC Desire on my hand because the Sense was missing and Sense is a kind of a birth mark on every normal HTC Desire.
That is why I use Leedroid instead

Have you find any issues or bugs (the laggy 720p is already known)? Notification LED?
According to forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818392 : "Rom is cleaned of bloatware."
Do you know :
What are/ is the bloatware/s? or what is missing or removed?
One of my fav mod now is the DSP manager and I am currently using Leedroid 2.2f, does the DSP thing works on that ROM?

the bloatware was all the t-mobile junk and game demos/apps etc
DSP manager isn't working on this rom at the moment
(but the dev is very helpful and will probably try to fix it if you ask him nicely )
In my opinion the rom kernel isn't the best, I've tried quite a few over the weeks and coutts99 kernel remix is the best so far (now with audiomod to boost the sound)
there is a promised new release version later on tonight so if you're thinking of flashing this rom hang on for a few hours...!

I will definitely wait.
I want the new sense badly
It doesn't have to be the same DSP manager as I use at the moment as long as I can adjust the audio quality as I please.
I have tried the HD Rom 3 weeks ago, but switched back to Leedroid because of the camera was not working.
Now the camera is working, I can live with the 720p problem.Although, I am still hoping that the 720p problem will also be fixed soon.

[Q] Which ROM would you recommend

Hey, hope there aren't a lot of threads with the same question but i didn't find one.
I will root my Desire the next days and then want to update to a custom rom.
There are some things i really need:
1. A2SD (that i can store any apps on the SD card)
2. Stable (NO bugs)
3. Sense (maybe normal sense, but might be also a port from the desire HD/Z)
4. Fast-Browser WITH Flash
5. (not so important) a Rom which is not overloaded and themed, i like the way sense looks, with all it's fonts and pictures.
Would ne great if someone could tell my what rom he would suggest for me and my needs.
Thanks
iNsertCoin HD/Z Port 1.9.5
in the video the menu seems to be a bit laggy. and the equalizer doesnt work. not that i need it but i dont like roms where something doesnt work... why would you recommend this to me?

One more voice for "iNsertCoin HD/Z Port". I am still using older version "1.8f".. No FCs, very nice and smooth. No lags for me.
Cool sense Cool Z v6 (i can't get V7 to work properly(its still in beta))
The HD roms from my pov, the fonts too small for my old eyes

I have been using the REMIxHD and it all seems to work very well, very fluid lag free flash works standard browser so might give dolphin ago. But then again when I got the LG GT540 on 2.1 thought it was good at the time.
I am using standard leedroid 2.3d. Working great for me and fits into your criteria.

The phone runs an older verison of the ROM in the video, which was laggy. EQ does not work, desire lacks of hardware.
I think you should go with a 2.2 Froyo ROM such as LeeDroid and not the HD/Z ports or Gingerbread.
I used to have RCMIXHD 3.0 A2SD and had a great experience with it. Surprisingly fast.
If Sense is not a priority for you, I'd recommend Oxygen or MIUI XJ, way smoother than any Sense HD port.
I used to love sense too. Sense is lovely.
These days though I realise that it's just eye candy - free yourself and get rid of it.
Go for Redux 1.0.2 (Gingerbread) which is the fastest smoothest ROM I've used (and I've used a lot).
Launcherpro has some god damn accurate Sense style widgets built in, and you can easily mod its dock to look the same as the sense dock, so you can have the sense look and feel, whilst still being able to use all the free space that sense usually takes up
This is what I'm currently running and I'm really happy with it.

I had a HTC hero before and used Android without sense, but the audio player for example sucks ...
i think i will stick to froyo and sense until the official gingerbread+sense comes out and someone has rooted it and created a custom rom.
Or is there anything in gingerbread that ist better than in froyo?

Actually i think LeeDroid is overloaded. The pictures i've seen are full with custom logos, fonts, etc, etc.
I Just want the original sense/sense HD style.
What ROM would you recommend? What about the Rooted Stock Roms?
And another question: Does slowing down the CPU when screen ist of (what is possible in some ROM's) really help for more battery life? I'm not really convinced and afraid of destroying anything on my loved HTC Desire..

There is nothing like that in LeeDroid. i think you are getting a wallpaper
confused with the os. or maybe you saw a boot animation and got it
confused either way it is "stock" sense with tweaks and it runs very
nicely. I swear by it anyway and put it on all my friends desires.
I went to HD roms but they either start running slow or take
too long to open things like the music player, this all bugged me so i
ditched it. I got the feeling that it wasnt designed for this hardware.
It might be good by now but who knows.
With leedroid i set the cpu scaling to "smartass" so it dips when nothing
is happening or the screens off and rises back to the top when in use.
"ondemand" does the same i believe but each governor has its advantages.
This all helps battery life but i cant say how much because ive been
running it for so long i dont notice.
Leedroid also has an intergrated fix for the charge issue with sense roms where
the battery is never at 100% when you take it off charge.
Try StarBurst lite is what you are looking for,
its Stock Sense with simple D2Ext. Kernel is LeeDroid 2.3 from snq - major Battery saver.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=916417
or try dsixda's Kitchen and cook your own Stock ROM with A2SD and just flash snq's Kernel.

Im using coolexe hd version 7,got a2sd sending apps to memory card. Batterys good, pretty much the same, but this is dependant on the amount of apps and things you get id say, The hd sense is much better in my opinion, more customization. Htc.com onboard but only some things work, lovely rom though id take that one a go,insertcoins good also, ive tried aurax also.all good.try them all mate, once you know the score test as many as u want!
A simple, stable gingerbread would be Oxygen 2.0.1.
A feature rich, fully customiseable alternative is the Cyanogen ROM (link in signature).
Choose whatever suits your needs.
I found this topic that is what I want to know. I hope it is not wrong to revive this thread.
I would like to root my Desire soon and update it to a custom rom.
There are some things i need:
1. Stable (NO MAJOR bugs -calls, sms, wi-fi, camera and basic functions should be working with no problems)
2. Android 2.3.4 or 2.3.5
3. A2SD (so i can store any apps on the SD card)
Would like to have, but not a must: Only if it works without laggs and buggs.
4. Sense 3.0 or 3.5 (for example like one from the desire HD)
I have htc Desire with official 2.3.3 Android (that I instaled from htc website) and is not rooted yet. I want to root and instal one of the newest android on my phone.
Therefore I would ask for some help, to help me choose the right one for me. I'm considering one of those:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1250815
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1040121
Would be great if someone could tell me which rom would you suggest for me. One of those 3 or perhaps one I misslooked.
I'm sorry for my spelling mistakes...
I'm grateful for any help or suggestion I might get.
Just installed Runnymede AIO V4.0 Special Edition, runs really smooth.
Before i switched to CM7, i used Insert coin and it was really really fast and was stable only reason i switched to CM7 was due to better themes and more settings
This is all really helpful, thanks so much to all you guys for doing this!!
My quick question on this, any of the roms that pretty much emulate a standard experience, e.g. the Starburst, plus app2sd functionality, any of these also support ad hoc wifi?
I believe there are ways of custom installing it, though are there (simple) roms out there which include it already?

Cyanogen Mod roms??

Im fairly new to the whole rooting/custom rom game (have a rooted DHD running Leedroid HD V2.2.2) and keep seeing Cyanogen Mod popping up everywhere!! Whats this ROM all about? I have read its a nightly so is constantly being updated, but is there any stable versions? Do normal android apps run on this platform? Is there any advantage to moving to one of these roms as opposed to a Froyo or GB rom? I only use my DHD for fairly basic stuff (gaming, navigation, music, email etc.) but do like it to be fast and look a bit different to every other DHD!!!
Thanks in advance! Dan

Oops Many but basic questions....CyanogenMod is currently CM7 series...its based on GB only....but no-Sense....there are RC2 available which is stable enough...no reboots or crashs.....
Its an android rom only so all the application runs on this..
The only thing which you are going to miss is video player as the video player on the sense rom is nice....but alternative are available.
you will get many other things....speed is one of them...
Hope I have answered some...

It will remove sense...you can just see that sense roms are 200MB and CM7 is just 80MB...lot of bloat will be off and speed will be there...but if you love sense then its a different case...
CM has a good support so lot of features are getting added regularly...try it and see if it is of your liking.....try CM7-RC2

[Q] What ROM? Need 720p and 2.3

Hi,
I made a thread the other day but it appeared to have been deleted before I even got home (made the thread on my phone).
I have used CM for a long time now and in the start I enjoyed 720p video recording on my Desire. Now CM does not have this feature and it is something I like.
I have become accustomed to the later versions of Android, so 2.3.x is a must.
The issue of Sense UI is something I'm not too bothered about, what what I hate is Teeter, Friendstream, HTC widgets etc. In the past people have said remove them but it seems that Friendstream can never truly be removed and it has caused me a lot of force closes after removing it in the past from other ROMs.
So, in short. I'd like the latest version of Android possible for my Desire, with 720p video recording, with the stock version of Android if possible.
I myself love insertcoin, but you don't want sense so i would recommend OpenDesire rom
it has 720p recording http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=712615< the link to it
Edit: you wanted gingerbread, use gingervillianhttp://http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=880465
even 480p in gingerbread rom is messed up.. so 720p...

So I installed the Sense ROM, however it contains Teeter and Friendstream. I just do not want these on my phone at all, they're total junk when I can have the proper apps from Facebook and Twitter.
I tried to edit the Zip file before I put it on my phone. Unpacked the zip, removed the apps I did not want then rezipped. Transferred it to my phone however now it just will not install from that Zip.

Which is Rom better for daily use?

Hi guys, new to the desire community.
Which Rom is better for daily use?
-supernova gb sense Rom
-leedroid hd 3.3.3
-leedroid v2.5
-leedroid v3.0.8.2
Thanks guys! Been thinking which is good.

Which ROM do you like the most? Which one of them to you works the best? Ask yourself a few questions, and when a specific ROM always comes up first you'll find your answer.
Currently using leedroid hd v3.3.3. But the internal memory seems to go down fast with a2sd++.

Thats the same question as the OP but adding an extra variable. See Timmaaa's response
I've found that pretty much any Sense GB ROM has glitches here and there, whether it be MMS not sending, camera flash timing, video playback stuttering etc etc etc.
About 4 days ago, I went back to Leedroid 2.5.0 and although it's only Android 2.2, it just works as it should.
The only thing that bothered me was that there are no toggles for wifi/Bluetooth etc in the notification bar, but there's a little mod to flash that enables that as well, so now it's spot on.
I'd recommend this for daily use.

That's because the "any Sense GB ROM" you referred to are all ports! Naturally, there will be bugs. Anything based on official HTC RUU-GB Roms like Supernova, Teppic, Alex-V; or Froyo Roms-StarBurst, old Leedroid shouldnt have issues.

I hear you, and I'd expect glitches in ROMs ported from other devices, but even 2.3 ROMs based on the official update for the Desire from HTC (EG http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1210178) have issues in my experience.
It feels kinda wrong rolling back to 2.2, but it works well, so.........

Lol, I guess!
My main gripes are:
- Camera capturing images just as the flash is switching off, so pics come out too dark
- Audio and Video being out of sync on videos recorded with the camcorder, when the resolution is set to anything higher than 640x480
(I have a 3 yr old son, so the camera/videocamera gets used a lot!!)
So what about your ROM?
Can you confirm whether these issues are apparent in it?
I've been reading about it and it sounds great, but there's no point flashing it if these issues occur!!
Many thanks
Unfortunately, I've not really tested these details specifically on SuperNova (my work is mainly based on advanced system scripts), and cant test it at the moment, since...wait for it..I'm on my Froyo Rom, StarBurst If I test it out later, I'll update this thread with my results
The reason I switched back to Froyo was the superior network and wifi drivers, which will never be solved on GB Sense without source/a better Ruu..
if you want sense, you should try silky tobasco's

Hmmm...
at the moment, GB AOSP ROMs are relatively more stable than the GB Sense ROMs (with Sense 1.9, 2.1, 3.0 and 3.5 or hybrid/2.1+3.0)
GB Sense ROMs are still not yet mature (my opinion) and as usual, maturity increases along with the developing time.
If you want really reliable ROMs, use Froyo Sense ROMs or any other AOSP or MIUI ROMs.
BTW:
I am now on GB Oxygen (http://forum.oxygen.im/)
and waiting for ICS
I really really hope the devs can come up with stable ICS for daily usage.
