[Q] Revolutionary recovery overrides Clockworkmod recovery - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello.
I did s-off on my phone (HTC Desire) with revolutionary and I used fastboot to install revolutionary recovery.
Now, when I try install clockworkmod recovery, revolutionary overrides it.
Do I should follow this thread or what?

Use the faq and irc channel of revolutionary.
SwiftKeyed from Oxygen with Transparent XDA App

Why would you rather use the "out dated" clockwork recovery?
The revolutionary recovery IS clockworkmod, It had just been re-skinned effectivly and is a newer version.

Having S-Off'd a friends phone and finding that he got the revolutionary CWM mod and I didn't have that on my S-Off Desire I ran the new AlphaRevX on my own phone. It asked if I was mad since it detected S-Off and asked if I wanted to flash the new CWM. Damned right I did!

So it installed its recovery even though you were already s off?
Does anyone have an img file of their recovery?
To the op:
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot flash recovery cwm.img

[Q] i'm using two recoveries at once...

I dont think i need them both,
I originially had clockworkmod after rooting with unrevoked,
then i installed amonra to split the sdcard,
now i want clockworkmod so i can flash unsigned roms.... so i used rom manager to flash it, done so about 10 times now, it says that i have it installed, and i can get to it only if i boot into recovery from rom manager, if i boot into recovery any other way i get amonra..
its not a huge problem since both recoveries are working properly, but id rather just have clockworkmod because im never going to split my card again..
anyone know how i can remove amonra and install cwm?
thanks.
If you are S-On you will have to use unrevoked to get back to ClockworkMod.
If you are S-Off, you can use fastboot flash recovery recovery.img.
By using ROM Manager you have installed ClockworkMod using the "fake-flash" method. It was how recoveries could be launched easily on desire before unrevoked cracked it!
Thats because ROM Manager uses a fake-flash so it will load CWM but when you boot from HBOOT it will use AmonRA as it's the permanent recovery
AmonRA is a better recovery and does the same job as CWM so just use that
Ooooohhhh I see, are there any negatives to using fake flashed clockworkmod?

No, it's just ROM Manager is a fail like that
(I don't like it in case you haven't guessed)
It just means that clockwork mod is not actually installed but just a update.Zip on the SD card which launches clockwork mod wheh flashed.
What version of amonra recovery do you have? It should be able to run unsigned zips.
1.7.0.5 r5 or something like that, it doesn't like unsigned.

[Q] Recovery Problems

Hi everyone. I'm having some problems with my Recovery which I can't seem to figure out:
I tried to mod my phone with CM6.1 the other day using ROM Manager. ROM downloaded and started to install, no problems. When it tried to boot up again, it got stuck in a loop at the CM loading screen. When I tried to reboot in to Clockword Mod Recovery, all I got was a picture of a phone with a triangle (can't remember which colour - think it was green). Eventually I realised that was a stock recovery and managed to get my phone restored to my backup but I can't seem to get my recovery to go to anything but the stock one. Rom Manager reports Clockwork Recovery reports ClockworkMod 2.5.0.7 installed and I've tried using Rom Manager, Android Commander and UnrEVOked to flash ClockworkMod and Amon-Ra and nothing works - I'm still at the built-in recovery.
Now, If I boot in to recovery, I get the red triangle and a message on screen stating "E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command".
If I do use the built-in recovery to flash ClockworkMod as an update.zip, ClockworkMod launches but when I reboot, it's gone again and I'm back to stock.
Any ideas?
Thank you!
"Android Commander and UnrEVOked to flash ClockworkMod and Amon-Ra and nothing works" make sure youre trying to flash a .img file
"Clockwork Recovery reports ClockworkMod 2.5.0.7 installed" that because the recovery (.zip) is saved on the SDCARD. When booting Recovery from ROM Manager, youre fake-flashing the file (.zip)
"If I do use the built-in recovery to flash ClockworkMod as an update.zip, ClockworkMod launches but when I reboot, it's gone again and I'm back to stock." thats fake-flashing
what HBOOT are you on??
EDIT: You should S-OFF your Desire "http://alpharev.nl/".
WARNING: When using S-OFF your flashing a custom HBOOT. If that goes wrong, it may brick your Desire. If you use S-OFF, then you can flash a permanent recovery using fastboot
Thanks Chris. Any idea why it would have reverted though? I used to have a permanent version of ClockworkMod until the other week
Edit: HBOOT just says 0.80.0000 and has 3 androids on skateboards

Go back to stock, download the original ruu for you phone. After that try rooting again.
Rats - had a feeling that may be the answer. Think I'll be able to restore a backup?

I fake-flash all the time. I once messed up a ROM's installation and got stuck because it messed up the recovery too.
The loop startup is probably caused by older cache from your previous ROM. Just boot up recovery again, clear cache and restore factory settings and then flash your CM again. Should do the trick.

Flashed my HBOOT with AlphaRev - those guys are brilliant, coding that!
Thank you for your help!
Bingo!
Think I've nailed it now!
I used Fastboot Commander [v.1.0] to flash Amon-RA which took and stayed!
To confirm: I installed AlphaRev bootloader to S-OFF then Fastboot Commander to flash Amon-RA. Hopefully, I'll now be able to flash Clockwork Recovery again (as I use Rom Manager) and be back up and running!
Think I may skip CM6.1...

[Q] After S-OFF (AlphaRev 1.8) Desire boot in FASTBOOT

Today I did S-OFF with AlphaRev 1.8 on my HTC Desire.
All sems okay but then I would to boot my phone but it just boots into FASTBOOT. And if I press reboot it boots again into FASTBOOT so I cant boot my Desire!
What should I do?
In the FASTBOOT main stand that I have "BRAVO PVT3 SHIP S-OFF".
I use CyanogenMod 7 RC1.
Does recovery not work at all or is it just booting in to fastboot?
If recovery works you need to restore a nandroid or reflash your rom.
If recovery doesn't work flash a recovery image via fastboot and then flash a rom.
@TheGhost1233
Thank you very much for your fast help!
I resored my NAND backup and now it works fine again. But what did I made wrong that my phone doesn't work?
I followed the Tutorial from pocketpc (I can't post links because I'm new here). My Desire was rooted with unREVoked before.

[Q] Help with Clockwork mod

So my desire Z (bell) is rooted using visionary. I installed rom manager and used rom manger to flash the clockworkmod recovery. Seems to have worked.. but when I reboot into recovery i dont see the option to perform a nandroid backup?
When clicking on "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" it brings up the device selector and it lists HTC G2, not HTC Vision? any ideas as to what im doing wrong? ive tried using the backup rom option from clockworkmod and that doesnt work either
Thank you
The picture you posted is of the stock recovery image not ClockWorkMod recovery, sometimes it take a couple of tries to get ClockWorkMod recovery to stick, so go back into ROM Manager and reflash it again.
Also make sure you are S-off, power the phone off then hold the volume button down and press power, when it boots into bootloader what does the first line say, It should say VISION PVT SHIP S-OFF or VISION PVT ENG S-OFF depending on if you flashed the eng. bootloader when you rooted. If it says VISION PVT SHIP S-ON, that is why CWM recovery wont stick because your not Permrooted S-Off.
Thanks joemm, I used gfree to do the s-off, applied clockworkmod, did nandroid backup and installed CM 6.1.1
Thanks for the assistance.

[Q] Change recovery

How do I change my recovery back to clockwork from amun ra.
I used the unrevoked method to root my desire. For some reason I flashed the amun ra recovery. I want to put clockwork back on.
I've tried using unrevoked to load a custom image, and using rom manager. neither of these methods work.
Could anyone help as I cant find another way by searching the forum.
Thanks in advanced
if you want to get new recovery with unrevoked, you would have to run a RUU and unroot, then root again, with clockwork.
other options you have:
1) fake-flash.zip of CWM recovery - you would boot normally into AmonRa, then choose to flash the .zip file of CWM, and CWM would boot up - however you'd have to do that every time, and if for some reason your SD would corrupt or smth you would have only AmonRA.
2) the only other way is being S-OFF, and flashing CWM through fastboot. go to desire TUT section, and find a video 'how to set up adb'. do it, then s-off your device (if you already havent) and take it from there, there are numerous tutorials how to do it
Thank-you for the prompt reply.
I have just S-OFF my desire using alpharev method and installed the custom recovery that came with it.
Much happier now
