[Q] how to change statusbar / notification bar background image ? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi
i am running insertcoin 1.0.9 (stock hboot)
i really want to change the background of my statusbar from the default black to a semi transparent white grey one i have attached below
i am sure this has been done but i just cant seem to find how to do it step by step
this cant be done in UOT Kitchen (AFAIK) because i cant upload the image i want the statusbar to be
i think this is possible by using metamorph but i couldnt find a step by step guide
i would prefer to edit framework-res.apk, systemui.apk and com.htc.resources.apk manually - but i've heard that it cant be done directly by changing the .png files in the drawable folder
please help......
would really appreciate......
thank you

anyone???

Umm here i'll tell how to edit
1. Open up the rom
2.system/app/framework-res.apk
3. open up the framework-res.apk and the background for the notifcation bar is located in drawable-hdpi or drawable hdpi-v4
I use the UOT kitchen for all my mods:

[Q] Transparent Background(Notification Bar) FROYO

Hello there, I am running Froyo on my SGA right now. I want to make my notification area transparent and also would like to change the notification icons. I've tried copying the png files from honeycomb theme to my res-framework.apk but had no luck. I would appreciate if someone could help me out here.
Thanks in advance.

hope theres mod rom for froyo..ahihihih
Read this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1091389 and you will be able to create your own theme at UOT Kitchen.
But where do I go in UOT kitchen to change the notification bar items ?
Go to the Status Bar tab and you will see the background option.
pass me the file
Go into. /system using root explorer or anything and then into framework. Upload and send me the framework-res.apk and twframework-res.apk. I will upload and send the modified theme by editing it manually. Will be thankful:-D

How to build my own theme?

Hello, I am looking forward on creating my own them for Galaxy S2, so I suppose I need to find where all the icons are located.
I will probably open the stock samsung theme graphics in photoshop and edit them, so any idea where they are located?
Is this the correct way of doing it?

Easy and beginers way:
Start with UOT kitchen: http://uot.dakra.lt/
Get the SystemUI.apk and framework-res.apk from the rom which you want to theme. Upload it to the kitchen and edit what you want.
Cook the theme and flash it with CWM as an update.
More advanced:
Get the toucwiz's framework and Settings.apk, you can edit png's of settings menu and touchwiz launcher. (you can not do this with UOT kitchen)
And check out this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=916814
GOOD LUCK!
Thanks Dark Emotion, good guide!

In the UOT kitchen: go to icons (check "Use this mod"), scroll down and check "Notification Power Buttons" and just choose any icon set you want. You can choose between 8 types of icons.
No I meant, in which apk are they found, so I can replace them with my own.
Is it on the framework-res.apk or systemUI.apk ?
/edit: Found them, on SystemUI.apk -> res folder
But it seems they are indexed png images, so can't edit them in photoshop. I suppose I will have to replace them.
Ok one more question would be, is it possible to change the color of the White popup windows?(like the one that popus when you long press the power button).
I know it's possible to edit the background color, but what about the font color? I suppose it's found on the xml.
Here's how the popup is displayed on kitchen:

Sorry man but I don't know answer to that question.
Well I found that the font colors may exist on framework-res\res\values\colors.xml if you decompile framework-res.apk
But after changing a color value, I then compiled the apk, replaced the new on on my phone and got boot loop so I had to re-flash a different theme to unstuck.
If anyone got any idea on how to change the font colors let me know!
If you have a search in the "how to theme" thread (link already posted) I put up a zip that I had lying on my desk top that tells you where to find a lot of the text colours.
The only problem with editing these is some apps will still use their own colour code and could cause problems like readability.
Hope this helps.
Edit: I had them on my sd card, credit to the creator!!!

I've posted them in my last post m8
Oh now I see it, so the one I am looking for is bright_foreground_light color. I want that in white, so the hex would be this one right? #ffffffff
Well that's what I did, then compiled the framework-res and replaced it on the Systems folder, then rebooted the phone but I got a reboot loop.
Any suggestions?
What did you use apkmanager?
If so did you answer yes and yes then delete what you modified from the keep folder
I used apktool:
apktool b framework-res(folder)
but as I can see now, the new apk compiled it's missing the META-INF folder, maybe that's why?
/edit:
So I just tried with apk-manager, I used the same method then compiled (answered yes/yes) now I have this:
unsignedframework-res.apk
But getting an error when trying to sign it.

Don't sign it, you don't sign system apks.
Just delete the "unsigned" part or rename to framework-res.apk and push or flash and it should work.
Ok thanks.
I just replaced it but no go, the font is still black(atleast there is no boot loop this time).
I suppose I messed up the part on apk_manager where it says to delete any files you modified on the "keep" folder.
On keep folder there was no value/colors.xml(colors.xml is the one I edited the bright_foreground_light).
Cheers
Did you delete resources.arsc?
No, let me try again.
Success! Dude you rock! Thanks a lot, for providing lot's of great info about this, here it is: blue font and full black pop-up menus.
Also attached two more shots of the theme I am making:

Basically resources.arsc is the"hidden" xml folders that become visible when you decompile.

Change Status Bar png

I'm looking to change the png of the status bar(which hold the clock/running apps, running service), however I can't seem to locate the files for it.
I've done it before but forgot, it's located somewhere in systemui or framework-res, but can't recall the name.

If u use app ninjamorph u can extract systemui and framework-res .In one of the extraction folder u will find xhdpi folder u will find the statusbar PNG.anyone correct me if I am wrong
Sent from my Xperia S using xda app-developers app
I am also interested in changing the transparency in the notification bar in CM9. As far as i read you have to pull SystemUI.apk, framework-res.apk from your phone, decompile it, change code then push it back in phone. I don't really know how to work with ApkTool so if anyone has an easier method for the uneducated, i will be very grateful.

Kitkat Status bar icons mod!

I tried alot to change the status bar icons of hyperion to.the kitkat icons but i was unable to do it as i dont have a pc......so it would be my humble request to the xda members to make a status bar mod cointaining kitkat icons for hyperion rom plzzzzz....
you can easily change pngs on a phone
change systemui.apk filename to systemui.zip
use any app like zarchiver to unzip the file to a folder
goto res/drawable-ldpi
replace any normal png you want to (not ones that end in .9)
rezip everything
change the file name back to SystemUI.apk
put in a flashable zip (you can download any mod flashable zip - you can use one of my mods and delete the contents of the app and framework folder and put SystemUI.apk in app folder)
flash in cwm with system mounted
if you are just changing one png you can also use the ninjamorph app but the above method is better if you are doing multiple changes

Well i use Evo x and icons there are 32 X 32.
When u replace a certain png look @ properties (of that pic). U will have the resolution.. Then resize the kitkat icon into that particular png size and replace it in the apk then Ur good to go all the best

You can share the icons please :good:
Just decompress kitkat status bar & your status bar in es file explorer.
then put the kitkat icons in your status bar.but keep the original file name. Then zip that folders again.
Now sign that zip in zipSigner apk.
rename the signed file SystemUI.apk.done
sent from terminal emulator
