[Q] battery life is just horrible RSL1+godmode - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

im not sure if my battery is ready to give out or what but when my phone is charged at 100 n when i unplug it like 5-10 mins ill see that its at 70...ive had this issue when i was usin cm7 nightlies with tiamat SBC..im startin to feel that i might have messed up the battery...i switched to synergy RSL1+godmode thinking maybe jus maybe that will fix the battery issue that i had for months now...ive turned off GPS and all the other stuff that would drain my battery but it did nothin it still drained fast..should i jus buy a new battery...and one more thing..my 3G keeps going on n off even when im using the airave..is it my phone or jus sprint cuz ive never had this issue before n it jus started happening like a month or two ago..at first i didnt really mind it happening every now n then but now its doing it like 3 times a day and my brother has an evo thats not rooted n he gets the same problem...i read on some threads to jus call sprint..n if they ask me if im rooted is it ok to tell them yes i am lol...im almost ready to go to verizon n get the thunderbolt lol but yea if anyone can help me or jus let me know what to do i would appriciate that

not sure about the air rave problem since I don't have one, but my battery life is much less on synergy than any aosp ROM mostly because of the power Sense needs to run. On Salvagemod, i would easily get over a 1.5 days on a charge, but I was thrilled yesterday with 11 hours on synergy rls1+godmode.
Also, have you been wiping your battery stats and conditioning your battery?

[Q] Synergy Battery life and App issues

Hey folks!
I have the EVO 004 Supersonic. I love flashing my Android, and do it constantly. I am having issues with Synergy RC1 that just went live. My battery is draining fast, and I mean in an hour maybe two, I have to charge it. That is just being on idle, not being used. Drains much faster if I use it. I flashed back to my original image (stock) and the battery lasts longer. So I flashed Mik, and it lasted longer and I flashed CyanogenMod and that sucker lasted longer, but I LOVE the way Syngery looks and flows. But I cannot get the battery to last longer. So I thought maybe apps were running that are not supposed to, so I use my favorite app killer and the apps keep popping up, they are driving me nuts. Why the hell are they restarting? I want them stopped and NOT to reactivate. Is this an issue with anyone else, because I really do not want to get rid of this ROM. Also, yes, I cleared the Battery stats as well. Still fast drain.
Oh, one more thing, I cannot OVERCLOCK the damn thing either. So, those are my issues, cannot get apps to stay shut off (force close even), Battery is dying super fast and cannot get it to stay charged longer than two ours. Oh, and I already checked my battery with Sprint, battery is good, and they even gave me a SECOND one, and it still drains fast. Please advise.
Thanks for listening folks, and I appreciate any help. I love this site and has helped me NUMEROUS times, but I finally had post my own specific issue as I have never dealt with this before nor found anything that can help.

jeez...dead in 2 hours...and being idle?! that sux. i was running Synergy for a while and didnt have THAT bad of battery life (i maybe had 7-8 hrs before it needed to be charged again)
and of course you cant overclock yet...the kernel doesnt support it! it's still the stock kernel that came with the OTA...HTC still hasn't released the source code for the kernel so no custom "gingersense" kernels for us just yet (i.e. no HAVS, sbc, overclocking, etc.)
try some of the battery saving tips that Myn links to in the 2nd post of the Synergy thread...maybe that will help
question for you: why are you using an app/task killer!?!?!?! Android has one built in already [MENU >> SETTINGS >> APPLICATIONS >> RUNNING SERVICES (or MANAGE APPLICATIONS)] that could also be a reason your battery life is crappy (i really hate task killers so that last line might be biased lol but seriously...android does have it built it)

First, Synergy runs on HTCs stock kernel, they havent released the source code for the kernel yet, so there are no custom kernels for any evo 2.3 rom, so you cant overclock, or get the awesome battery life we usually get from custom kernels.
Now the battery draining is usually the radios. Right now I have wakelock on my phone running synergy, but I dont wanna mess with my radios, you would have to try different radio/pri combos until you find the right combo.

I use task killers because I can kill all tasks at once instead of individually. I would like to be able to close apps I am not using as well. But they keep popping up. I know now the overclock does not work with gingerbread, but man, I got a lot of misinformation.
I appreciate your help, I will try the battery saving tips, but if it is about letting the phone die, erasing battery logs and then charging it and then making the green light stay on when first plugged in and other stuff like that, I have tried it to no avail. I just flashed another ROM and the battery is FINE! It is so damn frustrating. I see others with great battery life. I just cannot get mine to do it.

Well, you guys probably will not believe this, but I got my battery to last a looooong time! I was messing with my battery options and decided to turn OFF the battery saving option it gives (enable power saver). I rebooted the phone charged it fully and then took it off the charger, BAM! Being FULLY charged it went down one percent after being on for 40 minutes. That is much better than I was getting on my stock and other roms. I just love this dang rom. Now, if I could only overclock the darn thing. So I have had the EVO on for 2 hours and 10mins and the battery says 97%, sweet. Anywho, battery issue is solved, loved it. Has this been mentioned before? Turning off the battery saver to save on battery? LOL. It probably has and I must have been to frustrated to absorb that info. Thanks for your help!
Battery saver...
I, too, was having draining issues on my Synergy-ROMed Evo. I could WATCH the battery drain. But I turned off the "battery saver" in power prefs and it's HOLDING STEADY! I'll report back if this doesn't turn out to be the cure I was hoping for, but it's definitely worth a try.
Now if I could just get this GPS to stop rebooting my phone...

Better battery life out of an extended battery?????

I have an extended battery (2600). I was wondering, what does everyone do to get the most out of their extended battery if you have one? I'm hoping to get tips and or tricks from my fellow EVO users. If you have nothing positive to say, please don't post.. Any help is appreciated.

Are you rooted?
I use the stock battery on my rooted Evo and it lasts all day.
It really does depend on weather your rooted or not cuz on my stock battery I can go about a day in a half maybe a couple hours less MAYBE but then I have a Seidio 3500 mAh that can go exactly 2 days 1 hour and 38 minutes with heavy heavy use and also on a charge of 93 percent
So again are you rooted?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=712990 check that thread, ever since i followed the steps my battery life is so much better. its been off the charger since midnight and i browsed fb for like 30 minutes, texted my wife n browsed the market for a bit and its only down to 89%. btw im using the stock battery.

Not really lol I think that's pretty good I'm guessing that you got that with moderate/heavy use?
You may wanna give another ROM a shot and see cuz battery life may very between them. As well as kernels.

Any stock kernel will not charge any extended battert correctly. I experimented with this for the last month.
I found an app called boot manager and now have 4 roms installed on my phone. At night I boot into a Froyo ROM with a SBC kernel and charge it, then in the am, boot into my Gingerbread ROM.

Yep. If I don't use my phone it will last all day and lose about 1.5% every two hours. I just recently switched to my current setup and am still not used to it. I'll unplug my phone at ~95% and head out the door. I'll pull it out of my pocket a number of hours later and see that it's only down to about 93% - 92%. Before I switched my setup I would've been down the low 80's if not lower. When I use it my battery depends on what I am doing with it and what I have my scaling set to. Using my phone for things like texting, facebook, email, and some web browsing on Skyfire, which is what I would consider heavy use, it goes down about 3.5% per hour. Yesterday I went to my little niece's dance class and I used my phone to record video of her entire 60 minute dance class. Battery went down about 30% percent from that but that's to be expected. I remained out of the house for another 8 hours after her class and my phone still had 50% battery left by the time I got home. Wireless tether eats up my battery. But Thats because I am usually tethering while texting and testing launchers and such on my phone.
I do all of this on a stock battery. So I can only imagine how much I'd be able to do with an extended battery.
I get 30+ hours on my extended battery 2600 from sprint. LOL on warm 2.2

see i ran WTPT for a long time because i loved the stability of it as well as the awesome batteyr life of it along with the option to SBC on the fly like SAV-ZEN. I'm not going to lie though, I love the GB's along with the carousel LMAO! X) i bet thats whats eating away at my battery lol

Did I FRY my CPU??

First of all im not putting down anyone and there custom roms. As I am an avid flasher of them and there great features..
However.. Ive noticed with every rom I flash, my battery life SUCKS. I know kernels are suppose to have battery saver mods, but never seem to work for my phone. The only way I seem to get great battery life is if I odin back to stock. Its seems to last forever on stock.
On stock.. I would average around 10% drain every two hours of moderate use.. mainly texting..
On Custom roms I average 10 to 15 % drain every hour with same moderate use..
My question is, Could Overclocking have caused this problem??

Quite possibly... And unfortunately, you have to test different Kernels with your ROM to see what works best, or just ask the Dev which Kernel they used when developing the ROM... That's a good way to get the best battery life because after all, that's the Kernel the Dev based the ROM off of. Another option is to check out Marcusants post on setting up your Kernel for your ROM, and I apologize if you've already tried that... I'm just trying to list options... I've had problems with different kernels on different ROMS... Well at least until Rodderik started making his Kernels with Viper ROMS... Then it started working perfect lol. How are you running your clocking? Conservative? Performance? Also, are you using SetCPU with an OC/UV kernel and the Voltage Control app? If you use the two together, it could cause a lot of issues, you'd have to choose one or the other.
On the other hand, I could be 100% wrong and it could be just your flux capacitor... You know how touchy those things are. Try chucking your phone over 88 MPH and see how that works. The next step is VERY important though... Whatever you do, don't forget to put your phone in airplane mode before you throw it in the air or it'll just fall right back down after a couple feet... Keep it in the air I always say.

Im hoping once I hit 88MPH it will go back in time to when my phone actually worked. haha
I usually just use the Kernel that comes with the rom..
However I have used Set CPU and Voltage control together once. I messed around with the setting between performance and conservative.
Orion, first off. If u remember how "beepers" worked back in the day, if u ever had one, that's how text messaging works. It triggers a small ping when being sent or receiving message. So text messages really hardly use power. As far as ur battery is concerned, try this method if u like, just to see what kind of results u get. Charge battery completely with phone on first and then off. Then boot into cwm and wipe ur battery stats. Then drain ur battery completely without charging it. Then completely charge it up, and then see how ur battery does.

One more thing. Anytime u change rom or kernel, update ur prl and profile, then reboot ur phone..it does make a difference doint this.

True, just don't wipe your battery stats too much, it could end up doing more harm than good. But good call, I overlooked that cuz I was being a smart ass lol... Please don't throw your phone, that's never a good idea haha.

Were you overclocking when your battery life sucked? What uses more gas, riding at 55MPH or 90MPH? What was your battery life like on custom ROMs with stock frequencies?

Battery was ok when I overclocked.. went down hill after that. Except whenever im on stock EI22 Gingerbread and it runs all day.
On custom roms with stock frequencies I would still see a significant drain.
I don't think you fried it if it's still running fine on stock. I'd be more likely to think you're overclocking with an aggressive governor that is making your cpu stay at higher frequencies.
I havent been doing any OC or UV in months now and still have the problems on custom roms. Perhaps I got the phone that doesnt like to be modded.. Damn Sprint ha
also screen brightness has a HUGE effect on battery life. also do you do games and such? Those can be very draining as well. I am on a viper rom going on 14hrs and still at 78%. but i mostly text with my phone. about 15,000 a month to be exact. and use f.b. and xda pretty heavily. and different kernels can make the difference between 6 hours and 20.

i will say that my phone is particular on what rom i do run no matter what kernel i use
I just mainly text and surf the web occasionally. Funny part though the only game I play rarely is Deer Hunter Challenge which is a pretty high def large file game and when i play that my battery doesnt seem to drain. Right now Ive gone down 10% over the last hour just sending about 15 texts. And I have my display set to auto brightness
It's real simple...overclocking equals faster cpu AND faster battery drain. Do not overclock or do not complain about battery...one or the other.

[Q] battery life on freegs3

recently flashed to the freegs3 rom with stock kernal and touchwiz launcher. I have already changed to two file names and added .bak to then of the file names and rebooted. My android system is at 40% after 6.5 hours of use. My phone is at 54% and usually would be at about 75% when i used MIUI or Blazer. Anybody have any suggestions?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1830157
thank you
i looked through that whole forum and its not really any of my settings. My android system is taking all of the battery where as when i was on MIUI and Blazer rom, id get wayyyy better battery life on. I seen that qbking said that the battery life is better on this rom than on blazer so it doesnt make any sense that im at 40% after 8 hours. Before it could be 6 p.m. and i would still have 70%

Well you could have wakelocks, too many apps running in the background, maybe your phone keeps scanning for reception that isnt there (as in you have unnecessary radios turned on)
Try using BetterBatteryStats and it'll give you a ton of info about whats draining your battery
And did you just recently switch to FreeGS3? It usually takes a couple cycles before you start seeing the true battery life, so give it some time before you reach a verdict
i have all the settings the same as they were on blazer rom and MIUI. There is a reason that android system is using 2x the ammount of battery than the screen is. Not to sound cheap but i cant afford to buy the app to check my battery stats, but like i said this never happened on those 2 roms and most everyone else is reporting amazing battery times on this rom. I love this rom alot and dont want to have to switch back. I guess ill see what happens in the next two days

That too, forgot about it

Phone does not want to cooperate,

Got S4 3 Days ago.
Run into these problems:
50% of battery life gone in 2 hours of IDLE- IDLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- I entered work at 4PM, 70%... Left work 19%! battery drained insanely fast after that too.
2Hours 43 minutes of screen-on Average
- I thought 2600MAH would help this, and this was on powersaver.
- It died after 10hr total on-time mostly idle. I got to 2 hours 49 minutes and used the phone for an hour from 19% battery by underclocking the CPU to 500Mhz, using zen and powersave. without it I maybe wouldn't of even hit 2hr if I let phone run normal powersave mode.
Doesn't want to take charge from Sonys CycleEnergy Powerbank
- Why it wont beats me considering CP-EL outputs 5V /1A 5WH
Wi-Fi Calling...a dud
- it just drops calls. Useless.
4G...isnt 4G (Not phones fault) either way it would be nice if....data WORKED.
- I work at a theme park, you think it would be logical that tmo would make their network good in a tourist hotspot ESPECIALLY when its one of the hottest spots in the state ontop of the fact our states one of the more tmo saturated areas when it comes to more complete coverage... Guess not. I get 2-Max bars it always says "4G" BUT MY DATA NEVER WORKS.
Hasnt, ever, at all. I had to borrow my friends phone to call my ride today because calls werent going through and I had 4 bars and "4G" ohoho.
I feel like hiding in a corner, going back to my GN2... but carrying around a powerbank is ok in my book if the damned thing worked because i love its smaller profile.
Just let your phone to flash in love with Ur battery... Mine had the same problem and now I can go a day and a half without charging it every now and then... If you're rooted and still using the stock rom then I would recommend u to flash a rom... Besides Ur phone eating up Ur battery the bloat is eating it even more so if you flash a rom it will take all of the useless apps nd most of the bloat away nd trust me it will save u a lot of battery.. Also another tip... Don't leave your phone in Ur pocket... It tends to overheat which causes it to drain Ur battery even faster so yea try flashing another rom.... FYI... If u know how to back up all of Ur apps don't restore then once u flashed it because the bloat will mess up the phone nd will lag badly..
