How can I get back down to EC05? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys. I've been using EG22 for a little bit, and I'm wanting to go back down to EC05.. Is there a flashable version for CWM 3.1.0.1 ? Thanks in advance.

You will have to Odin to get your EC05 modem back if you changed to the new one. If not, you can just wipe everything 3x and flash your EC05 ROM or nandroid backup.

Thanks., will try tomorrow. & @ John, I meant 2.3.4 firmware, and the EG22 modem. Sorry I didn't make that clear.

Problem with CWM on ECO5

I did the OTA update to ECO5. I rooted/installed CWM using this. When I restart to CWM it goes through the initial setup, then backs up my files, then for some reason restores some files (which I don't want restored). After it is finished, I reboot the phone and it doesn't go past the Samsung screen. I have to stock flash, update, and root again. I did this 3x so far. I even deleted the CWM folder from my SD card which had the backup folder..what do I do?
Its backing up your files to convert you to an ext4 filesystem. Then it restores all the files. After its done you have to flash an ext4 compatiable kernel it it wont boot you. The stock kernel can not support ext4. So after its done flash whatever rom/kernel combo you want or just a kernel. Then your phone will boot up.

Thanks much for your prompt response. What would be your recommendation for rom/kernal and kernal alone?
Midnight rom is really nice

Its all up to you but if you want stock rom and custom kernel I'd go with genocide by rodderick. I'm actually on acs frozen rom with genocide kernel. Awesome combo.

I had the same problem & I just figured out what 2 do a couple if days ago. U cant convert 2 EC05 over the air; u have 2 download the EC05 tar file & then use odin 2 convert 2 EC05. Im assuming u know how 2 do it. If not let me know

I have the acs frozen rom currently. Do I just "install zip file" through CWM to get the Genocide Kernal? Does it clear everything if I do so?

[ ROM ] Stock Rooted EK02 System [ OS 2.3.6 ]

Here's a complete ROM for those that don't want to go through the hassle of reverting back to EG30 just to get the update
BIG THANKS TO VIPERBOY, CHRIS41G AND EVERYONE ELSE THAT HELPED PULL THIS....
This ROM is completely stock with exception of root/busybox added and it uses the repacked EK02 that Chris41G posted so that you keep CWM
Stock Rooted EK02 ROM (v1.0)
Thanks Caulk!

awesome... thanks Calk!
Can I just ask what is the benefit of this EK02 system?
Is it a step towards getting ICS working?
Can we even revert back to EG30? I'm on EG31...

I'll post this question here as well.
I still have a EG30 nandroid backup from when I was on stock, now I'm on EG31 everything. If I restore the backup will that put me back on EG30 modem as well?

Modem is not backup by recovery, the only way now to update to the EK02 modem is when the full modem.bin is released in the update tar like the one for EG31. Once the update is released and the sprint stores get the tar, someone will post it like they did for EG31, so I'm not too worried.
ROM is up now...
I want to clarify something about this install. If we only want the modem update but we have already flashed the EG31, we need to flash this rom. That part I understand. My question is after we flash this rom and are updated, can we then flash a custom rom like yours or restore a nandroid since the modem isn't backed up by the nandroid and still be running on the newest modem but with our own custom rom? Or will we be stuck with this rom until the modem file can be extracted at a later date?

calk, thanks for the update and rom.
I installed your latest rom with eg31 yesterday and its running great. My question is can I run your wipe all zip and then flash this rom? If so do I get the ek02 benefits? (if there are any?) will I have any issues?
thanks in advance
sorry if its been stated, but this rom flashes the new radio too? i dont have to flash it thru heimdall? im on eg31 atm
Wow big night I see

as far as i know anyone on eg31 is sol. this eko2 is an update to eg30 and therefor can only be flashed over eg30. if you have anything but eg30 you need to wait until the official update comes out and the eg30 modem can be pulled. if you have eg31 nothing you can do will allow you to load ek02. no back up even nandroid or any rom, restore nothing, sorry.
anyway to find out which modem you are on?
also what does 3KO2 actually give us?

Flashing modem?

So after flashing a gingerbread Rom, it still looks like my modem is EC05. Do you have to flash a modem with ODIN? If not, what would be the easiest way to get to the gingerbread modem and is it worth even changing modems in the first place? I'm running legendary 2.2.

So I would have to flash back to froyo, upgrade to gingerbread, re-root my phone, and then flash a custom ROM? Is it even worth the new modem?

No... there is a delts flashable zip that you can flash in cwm to take you to ei22... search for it its around here somewhere...
Edit- I happened to have it saved... here you go... http://db.tt/XLHkG7QC flash in cwm and it will give you the ei22 modem... you have to be on the ec05 modem for it to take!!! So if your not odin the ec05 modem and then flash that in cwm

do any roms work on el30 or am i having a different problem??

ok so i was gonna delete this.. but im getting really confused..
i got the full el30 update
rooted
flashed the el30 kernel
and everything was working perfect
later i tried flashing thunderhawk
it finished installing pretty quick
and then i got stuck at boot up
flashed cm7 and got an "installation aborted" msg
restored a backup of thunderhawk on ei22
and it worked and i had the el30 modem
so i went to cwm and factory reseted it cuz i ddint want the whole settings of it all and my desktop and apps and stuff
then i got stuck at bootup again
i restored my backup again and its working now i have thunderhawk on the el30 modem
my question is basically do any roms work on el30??
why does my back up restore and work but when i flash a new rom it doesnt work???
Maybe bad downloads? Did you try Factory Data Reset and then immediately flash the ROM?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
well this file has been on my sd card since I first flashed thunderhawk so it should work but it is a possibility..
Ill try again
But ei22 roms do work on el30 right??

If you're talking about the modem then yes they defenitely do... if you're talking the kernel then I wouldn't have a clue... never tried to mix and match a kernel and rom...

Yes... but you won't be on 2.3.6 anymore... and thunderhawk will contain the ei22 kernel also... so yes that will work...

Yeah but once you do that and install your ROM, you are completely EI22 again except for the modem. For that you can restore your backup and just flash the modem delta.

When it does just let it install. When it fails just pull the battery and boot. No more notifications (thanks Flastnoles11).

[Q] Back to stock from CleanGB v1.1.2 MTD

What is the best way to get back to a stock rom from a phone flashed with CleanGB v1.1.2[MTD]?

Odin would be the best way, you could have flashed this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1461377 but you're on MTD

Thanks for the replies guys.
@masaidjet - Sadly I was not the one that flashed it to begin with, but I'm the one tasked to fix it.
@Big Goron - that is what I was looking for, think I can take it from here but will gt in touch if I have questions/issues.
Thanks again...
Dont use the USB cable that came with your phone.....if you dont know that by now.
