Returning to stock clock app - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Howdy all! I searched at home last night and again this morning on my phone but have been unable to find help on my particular issue.
I just flashed randomrom hawk and randomking replaced the stock clock app (with the gentle wakeup options that I need to prevent a heart attack every morning) with the desk clock app.
I've tried two methods but to no avail:
1. Using root explorer I copied the stock app into /system/app and modified the permissions to match the rest of the folder (rw-r--r-- I think, anyway it matches), then rebooting
2. I added the apk directly to the zip file and reflashed (checking with root explorer, permissions still match
In both cases, all of the functions work EXCEPT creating an alarm (timer, etc are fine) which causes an immediate force close.
Does it have to do with randomrom being deodexed and the app is from a stock rom? Any help would be greatly apprciated!

Try a ginger bread version
The froyo versions don't have gb compatibility

Yep, that fixed it. The clock apk I'd found must have been from froyo.
It never crossed my mind that the stock apps would change between versions but obviously it makes sense.
Thanks gt!

[Q] So many problems today!!!

So im looking at my phone and it says no alarm setup. When I go to set an alarm, I have a completely different clock app and not the regular htc sense clock app. So now I have no stop watch, world clock, or anything. How would I go about fixing this?
What rom do you have?

I'm using Myn's Warmtwopointtwo RSL5+ When I flashed the Rom I had all the normals. But I restarted my phone to do a nandroid backup and see that I have this clock OUT OF NOWHERE!

did you install a custom screen lock?
Yea, its a vanilla lockscreen mod-addon for the RSL5 Rom. Dont tell me that can be the problem?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I guess it can. Vanilla lock mess up my alarm (time is right but sometimes alarm starts and i cant dismiss it so i have to power cycle my phone), so I am looking for solution too before I go to HTC lock.
Yea. The vanilla lockscreen is great, im just not liking this clock replacement. I used the stopwatch alot.

Vanilla lock doesnt allow you to use the HTC world clock. If you happen to use both and an alarm starts sounding you cant turn it off. because of this most Mods for vanilla lock screen remove the world clock. This is what you are noticing.
I would just search the app marketplace for stop watch or other clock replacement ... there are tons of them. "beautiful widgets" clock i believe has all the components though it costs.
How would I go about removing the Vanilla lockscreen and replacing it with the Htc Lockscreen without reflashing the rom? Im really not in the mood to recustomize my theme again.

you would need to replace the HTClockscreen apk in system. If yuo ahve it backed up or saved youc an do that additionally youc an open your rom or theme's file and look for the apk under sytem/app and pull it out and push it back to your system app folder on phone.

Stop wallpapers from auto changing randomly

Issue: After installing GoLauncher or other launcher, your selected wallpaper changes to some random wallpaper everytime you lock and unlock your device.
Reason: I honestly don't know Amazon's intentions on this one
Fix:
**Coming shortly. Sorry
False alarm!!! This removes the settings.apk from the device.
Don't do this without a backup

Looking forward to this fix!
Keep us posted!
wouldn't it work to delete all of the wallpapers it is calling from the framework-res.apk and re-pack with images you would want to use (or delete all but one)?
I haven't tried it as it is too risky not being able to boot into a recovery and make backups and/or restore. That and I don't know how to re-pack the .apk. The third party launchers are trying to pull wallpapers from where traditional roms store their default wallpapers (the framework-res.apk).
It appears Amazon has stripped out most calls for any custom wallpapers from the traditional settings.
However the stock launcher is pulling the wallpaper from a folder inside of the launchers own .APK making it difficult for an average user to change (we could pass them off as themes.)
This post I found might help us with the unpacking and repacking of this type of .apk however I don't have the time to work with it.

let me know what you all think.

Nope, installed it and got locked out with a blank screen on power on. Not sure how i fixed it but got back in and uninstalled. But in the meantime, the wallpaper had changed.
On changing the stock wallpapers:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1355267
This is how i did it... Just a temp fix.
Add a live wallpaper to your custome launcher, im using adw ex. then go to application and force close the live wallpaper app that is running.
Now change to the wallpaper you want.
Let me know if that works. worked for me a few times.

Low-tech method: sideload llama (I couldn't get tasker to install), have it set a wallpaper when the screen turns on.

wallpaper issue fixed
I was able to stop the stock wallpapers from rotating and taking over by using widgetlocker v2.2.3 in the app store. They updated the app to support kindle fire. I am using go launcher also. Changed the lock screen too for I found KF lockscreen to be too plain. This works!

I assume you need to be rooted and have the market installed in order to get this latest and greatest?
so far, this is the easiest method ive come across:

yes I am rooted, but now that amazon put out the 6.2 update it unrooted my device and WL stopped working as it was before. I rerooted and WL doesn't stop the KF wallpapers from taking over and changing. Rats! lol

Fonts

I installed cm7 and was running the ICS theme no problem, so then I took it to the next level and installed the roboto font, just to find out I don't like it.... it just doesn't fit my phone as I hoped it would. Is there anyway someone could post the stock text. .ttf files for me to switch back? Thanks
Sent from my Incredible 2
Font installer in the market has Droid Sans as an option. It's called "stock"
If you used the font changer app, you should be able to day go to defaults or something like that, and it reverts.

Thanks guys, I just pulled the filed from cm7 in root explorer and moved them into the .fontchanger folder.

ICS lockscreen question

Is it possible to "transplant" an ICS lockscreen (ie from juggernaut 5.0) and install on another ROM?
I'm using MALICE now, with Eugene's new kernel. I'm tech savvy with some things but a noob with this stuff.

my lockscreen is transparent. I'm not exactly sure what's the process, but I had a picture from my gallery on there, and I flashed another ROM or something along those lines and the screen is transparent, probably because I don't have that picture anymore? not sure? You can try deleting the picture after you set it?
Sorry I don't know the exact way to do it, but it is possible.
What I did was download go launcher
Then I downloaded go locker then found the ics theme lockscreen then I set the default launcher for whichever rom I was running(don't pick go launcher). And boom ics lockscreen on the rom and you don't even have to run go luncher you just have to download it for the locker to work....probably not the way you wanted but that's probably the easiest way...ha

@teo032
I think he meant transplant not transparent. As far as making your lockscreen "transparent" goes, all you need to do is go to cwm and fix permissions, then reboot. It will remove the assigned lockscreen .jpeg file to none.
@evanladoux
Implementing a lockscreen to be built in to a rom is very long process and it requires that you understand programming fairly well.
Yea lockscreens never used to be hard, but in GB witb samsung, its a pain.
M&S
Thank you everybody for your replies.
I was looking to get a built in lockscreen rather than Go Locker, which is what I just went with.
I was hoping it might be as easy as unzipping a ROM, & rename/copy/paste a few files into the DD folders.
Its fine until we have a fully functional TMO ICS. I use Wifi Calling a LOT, so, the current batch of ICS ROMs won't work for me as a DD, though I appreciate all the dev's work to provide (ie M&S .. too many to list)

help installing clockpackage.apk

im on cm7, and trying to install clockpackage.apk
the one that comes with cm7 is the deskclock app, but ive always liked the one that included the stopwatch timer and world clock tabs at the top.. as im writing this im thinking it might be a touchwiz app which is why i cant install it on a non touchwiz rom...
anyway, it is a system app so im using root explorer to move it to /system/app, and when i reboot it doesnt show in the app drawer...
anyway if it is possible to install on cm7 that would be super sweet
It is Touchwiz. Look in Apps subforum for the Ported TWapps thread. Those are the only ones ported so far.
