Simple way to enable App2sd for most app - HTC Wildfire S

Ok, we got bootloader unlock now and we can use link2sd instead of this one .
As our wildfire s just got a very little amount of space of installation, i've found a command which can enable app2sd for most of the apps such as whatsapp, xda and so on.Most importantly, IT DOES NOT REQUIRE ROOT
First, you must download android sdk (but not install it)
Second, enable usb debugging on your phone.
Then, open cmd.exe.
After that, use cd to enter your sdk platform-tools folder.(For new version only. Old version please use tools.).
Lastly, type
Code:
adb shell pm setInstallLocation 2
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
That's it.Simple, right?
Before :
After :
To revert it, just change the command to adb shell pm setInstallLocation 0.
Remember, DONT PUT WIDGET TO SD CARD.
Also, System App (such as Facebook and Gmail) can't be move to SD card unless you are s-off

Do we need Android sdk for the command? As this command didn`t work for my Wildfire S.

Just refer to my first post. I've edited it already.

First of all thanks for your work, but that didn`t work for my phone again. It gives "adb" error. I had better wait for S-Off and then root my device for apps2sd. Thanks again.

thanks a lot.
make you say phone mem free now

Thanx for this!
although it doesn't work for all apps - people which is one of the most memory consuming of all apps still cannot be moved
For those who downloaded the sdk and get the adb not found error in the command prompt you'll need to run first the SDK manager.exe file and tell it to download stuff. I think you don't have to install the sdk when asked but test it yourself as I continued to install everything (1.8 Gb needed)

Thanks a lot. Great tip.

Thanks great help

very useful info thanks allot

i don't get this, can you be more precise on the steps for the n00bs and why do we need this since WS can move apps to SD card on settings app

Awesome, thanks to the OP I now have an extra 11mb!
Cheers dude!

where do you obtain the usb driver? it seems to have disappeared from the HTC site (all it offers me in the downloads is the manual) and the google driver won't work with the wildfire s.
running windows 7 x64 if it helps.

I think you can also carry out the process using the Terminal Emulator App, must be rooted though in order for it to work.
Run terminal emulator
Type SU press enter
Type pm setInstallLocation 2
Simple.

Install HTC Sync on your pc (just plug phone into the pc via usb, it will install) and then uninstall it, this inserts the correct drivers onto your pc.
To check do this assuming you are using MS Windows:
Open "Device Manager (start ->Right click Computer -> Click on Device Manager), Under "Other Devices", you should now see "Android 1.0"
If you do not see Android 1.0 you have not installed correctly.

my wildfire s never gave me that when i got it a month ago. must be a virgin mobile/bell eccentricity.
htc sync doesn't appear to be available on htc's canadian site for some reason, but i'm grabbing it via the european site now.
hopefully this'll work.
EDIT: no need to even install sync. it installs the driver as part of the preliminary work.
the app2sd works great. gives me a little more room to work with.

SDK is unnessary , we just need ADB in SDK, I will upload it for you guys.

Hi
Thanks a lot for a few MB free now
One question. It's for most apps, but how can I move 2 sd apps like Gmail etc? It's root required?
Cheers

You can't move system app to SD even you have root. But if you have root, you can move it to data app.

HTC Sync/One X and Windows 7 64 drivers

Hi all,
I know that are several posts on here about this issue, but none of them are helping me.
I've installed HTC Sync 3.2.10 on a Windows 7 Professional 64 but when I connect the One X the computer doesn't see it. Since then I've unninstalled and installed the HTC Sync several times and now I've installed the HTC Sync 3.2.20 but without sucess.
Can someone give a tip on how to put this to work?
I even tried to install the driver manually going into the HTC driver folder but also without success.
Thanks
Any ideais? For 2 days that I have the phone and I can not even put a decent ringtone due to this problem.
Try airdroid you can find it in the market.
Gesendet von meinem HTC One X mit Tapatalk 2
I had no issues at all with a Win7 X64 computer. Make sure you're using the original cable, and that it's plugged into one of the motherboard ports, not off a hub/front port etc.
And I assume I'm asking a silly question, but you are looking at the phone when doing this? When you plug in you have to pull down notification, select the usb option, and select sync/charge/disc drive etc.

htc Sync Driver
please guys, I tried all the ways to get my MOX recognized by my PC, but there is no yet !!!!
I installed and Uninstalled many times !!!
so what I have to do ?? please help
How I installed HTC Drivers on the One X (64-bit)
ENABLE USB DEBUGGING FIRST !
1. Download this.
2. Extract it anywhere easy to find (I recommend Desktop).
3. Connect your phone.
4. Press Start, search for Device Management.
5. You should find something like this
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
6. Click on Other>HTC.
7. Click Update Drivers.
8. Click Browse my Computer for Driver Software.
9. Click Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
10. Click Show All Devices
11. Click Have Disk.
12. Click Browse.
13. Navigate to the Drivers you unzipped earlier.
14. Inside it, look for androidusb.INF and click open.
15. Choose My HTC
16. Now it should say it successfully installed.
If it doesn't, it means you have a 32-bit PC and you tried to use 64-bit drivers. It WILL NOT work. If you're a 32-bit user, here's the 32-bit drivers. Just follow the same steps as above but use these drivers instead.
Hope this helps, this is the only advice I can give to people having trouble with connecting their HOX.
Try wit Factory reset its a common issue after JB upgrade,because after every software upgrade inside phone must be all partitions cache formatted.

I did all of these, but the problem still as it is
Not had a single problem getting my HOX recognized by my pc running win 7 home premium x64.
I did find with the upgrade to JB that it needed a bit of help though.
Try this, when you plug in your phone pull down the top bar.
next press usb connected, this brings up anther menu.
Press usb network setting, this brings up yet another menu.
Now select usb tethering, or internet pass through. i found this brought up the icon for the phone on my pc with out installing htc sync.
Remember to switch back to none afterwards though, this seems to work for most people as a workaround.
Mine finds my phone as a mtp device so its fine

You can download HTC Sync Manager from http://www.htc.com/uk/software/htc-sync-manager/#download which can be installed on Windows 8 (although it may not run properly!).
This will install the correct HTC Drivers (32 or 64 bit) v3.0.0.023 which are later than the driver above.
If you don't require Sync Manager then that can be uninstalled afterwards without uninstalling the drivers.

Maybe because HTC updated HTC Sync and Sync Manager last month and they included drivers that work on windows 8
HTC updated the installer and the Sync Manager, but it is not working.
During the installation, the installer is giving an error message, that the driver package can not be installed and it is asking, that we would like to continue with installation of sync manager... So, the 1.1.48 version is wrong.
But I found a workaround: You have to install first the older sync manager: 1.0.42.2 and then you have to update it to the newest 1.1.48.
The old version will install a HTC Driver version 3.0.0.024. During the update the error message appear, but you have already installed the drivers, so you can continue. With that workaround I have working the tethering and the sync maneger too.

Herold

I have tried installing HTC Sync, but it does not recognise the phone, but I was guessing that was due to Cyanogenmod (no HTC Bloatware to be found on my phone).
I realise I am running a nightly and am supposed to expect errors here and there, but before I upgraded to Windows 8, it worked through windows explorer (Win7 Ultimate, no extra software needed), now it doesn't.
Could you guys help me?
Ok so you installed HTC Sync and thus should have the latest drivers for HTC One M8 installed!? If not download newest version from HTC and reinstall.
Regarding adb fastboot: do you have the universal adb drivers which solve problems with Windows 8/8.1? If not you can find them here on xda for download. Don't have the link at hand as I'm at work at the moment.

Regarding adb fastboot: do you have the universal adb drivers which solve problems with Windows 8/8.1? If not you can find them here on xda for download. Don't have the link at hand as I'm at work at the moment.

Thank you for your reply!
I searched for the mentioned drivers and installed them. I now have only one device in device manager that is not installed:
However, when I try to have Windows look drivers or install from the device list, It just searches for drivers indefinitely.
Also interesting is the fact that when I unplug my phone, the HID device stays in device manager.
Frankly I am lost.
Is this a known bug with CM? It is REALLY annoying.
If you installed the adb drivers I mentioned you could check if the One is recognized by them. If you open up as cmd. Plug the device into the PC and navigate to your Annenberg folder you type the following:
adb kill-server (to stop it if running)
adb start-server (to start it)
adb usb
adb devices
Is your One M8 shown after this commands?

Thank you for your input.
I tried adb commands.
when I first started the server (using adb start-server) I had a notification saying that the device was listed as seen here.

The notification was on the phone itself, but now I can only find this with adb services in command prompt.
When I enter adb usb or adb root, it merely hangs - nothing happening after at least 15 minutes of waiting.
I am lost again.
Can you point me to the ROM you are using? I am willing to reflash the phone to see if the underlying cause is actually Cyanogenmod, but if it is, I want a good ROM, preferably one where I can choose to NOT use Sense UI (personal preference).
Thank you for your help so far
