With MIUI/CyanogenMod 7.1 - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Alright I saw a topic somewhere talking about MIUI Roms and so on. I've heard people talk about before saying its a very good rom.
I went into RomManager downloaded and flashed and of course wiped first
Anyway the questions ---
Q 1.) When first installed, I noticed how beautiful this rom was. Then noticed my app drawer missing..Why can't I find an app drawer on this MIUI rom?
(PS I did download a drawer but it just wasn't the same)
Q 2.) My battery, I did flash Chad's IncrediKernel to this rom. I did not notice a performance mod to edit my settings - MHz and profiles+governor.
(I downloaded the Incredicontrol and Droid Overclock, every reboot my Incredicontrol USB speed charge doesn't turn on and I have to do this manually. Any ideas?)
Q 3.) Widgets and the screen options. I love this setup to death...but why can't I resize and change icons? If I can change icons I apologize I did not examine to much in settings yet.
I just came off Cm 7.1 and this literally took me 23 minutes to learn the rom.
If anyone could answer these questions thank you!
Also I haven't checked but is there remixed MIUI roms out there by certain people out there with these features?

1. There is no app drawer. All your apps are listed on the home screens.
2. Check out the incredicontrol thread for the answers on fast charge at boot. When you initially set the options and reboot, the program will look like the values have been reset although this is not the case. Use setCPU or similar to manage clock speed and governors.

OK...well I'm hoping someone else will have better answers.
As for incredikernel, I had cm7 as I posted and I know how it works,. Now what I'm saying is, when I select both audio and USB fast charge then hit apply on boot and then boot to test it out it takes off (unchecks USB fast charge) and does not charge it fast (of course)
I'm using Droid Overclock same thing

It's supposed to uncheck it after you boot, chad designed it that way. That's why I suggested you read his thread. As for the fast charge not happening, his thread would probably be the best place to ask... since he did design it and all

Set cpu with stock kernel droid incredible

I just rooted my incredible and I'm using the kernel that came with it stock. I disabled perflock and I left the max speed to 998 and the min speed to 245.
When I'm not doing anything on my incredible, I see that the speed constantly changes from the max to the min. Not even one second passes before it just goes back and forth, back and forth. Is this normal?
Coming from the d1 where it would stay at the min when idle, I'm not sure if what's going on with my incredible is normal.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Yes that's normal. For better battery life, I'd try a kernel with smartass governor. It spends more time on the lower frequencies.
Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk
Switching to a different kernel will give you the ability to overlook//underfoot the system needed.. this in turn increases battery life.. kingklick, ziggy's, chad's kernel are all well known kernels.. you will want to play with different kernels.. not every kernel will be stable to overlook to certain speeds on certain Rom's.. switching kernels is almost as addictive as switching roms.. always nandroid before flashing anything..
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Typos on my end.. underfoot = undervolt.. overlook = overlook.

Will those kernels work on my rooted stock incredible?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Yea! By stock i'm assuming all you did was root. I am currently running SkyRaider 3.5 Sense along with
"2.6.32.26-ubcredujuerbek-12082010 [email protected] #11"
I will edit with links to these two items.
SkyRaider 3.5 Sense - SkyRaider
Chad's Kernel - Incredikernel
My phone runs amazingly fast with sense but yet, even with heavy usage (Texting constantly, on the internet, gmail, even Fring) I can go an easy 24 hours on one charge. If my phone stays screen-off idle I could last at 95%-100% for several hours.
Yes, all I did was root.
Does the chad kernel provide wireless tether and will i still need to disable perflock in setcpu?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
the non stock kernels all disable perflock already, you do not need to do it..
flash the kernel via clockwork, and you are set.. jump into setcpu and adjust some settings and add profiles.. you'll be golden..
What he said ^^

Not quite. I believe Lou's has some tweaks within perflock, so disabling it would lose those.
And most kernel devs, particularly Lou and the ones who use HAVS, advise against using SetCPU. I'd check with your chosen kernel thread for details.

Also, I wouldn't 'set on boot', at least till you find frequencies that your phone can handle safely. Otherwise, you'll get a 'crash' loop, where your phone starts up just fine, but once you go past the initial lockscreen it'll crash and reboot. Very annoying...

what rager said... ive put on kernels and ran em high only to get a "boot loop".. its tuff to get out of cause you need to get back into setcpu to scale back otherwise it keep on going.... i learned to put the setcpu app icon on my main screen so i can get there fast to scale back..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=866736 can you install these with the stock rom. i wanted to experiment to get better battery life but didnt really want to install a different one.

Yeah, if you let it boot loop too long it'll hard boot, which is where the phone cuts off completely. That has happened to me, and it ruins apps.

Take out the battery. Put it back in and start your phone again. If the same happens repeat the battery pull but this time hold down on the volume bar and THEN press the power button to restart your phone. After it starts up in bootloader select recovery by moving the volume bar and then hit the power button again. This will bring you back to recovery where you can flash the rom again or restore your backup.

Thanks im restoring my backup now. I thought i had bricked my phone or something. i just rooted my phone so this was my first ROM that i was flashing so I wasn't sure of what to do.
I know this going to sound stupid, but can anybody point me to a guide or video on how to flash roms? Im new to all this so I dont want to mess anything up.

Note: Start @ 3:15. In the video clockwork mod is black/green but that's just because its an older version, the newer version is black/orange. All the steps are still the same though.

Also keep in mind that some roms can take up to 5 minutes to load the first time. Normally (but definetely NOT always) as long as it doesn't keep reloading the boot animation, everything is fine - the rom is building your file system on your first boot.

if you took the time to read about kernels and what they are you would know.
but, i'm in a good mood today:
Kernels govern your cpu speed and how to scale it. Some are locked to a certain frequency set and some are made adjustable, but you have to get an app that interacts with the kernel otherwise it runs at whatever it is preset to.
SetCPU is the one I used, but I know there are plenty out there that others would recommend and swear by in a heartbeat.

I'm using Virtuous rom 1.02 with the advanced kernel. I clocked mine at 475-1100mhz with a low battery profile switch at 275-887 (i think).
Check your rom specific kernel to make sure it runs best for your rom. The rest is personal preference.

*sigh* Give a man a fish and he will eat all day. Teach a man to fish and he will drink beer all day.
Since you're on CyanogenMod, I recommend Pershoot's kernel (available through ROM Manager). If you're feeling bold, download Flippy's latest kernel. Since I'm running the CM-based PyroMod, Pershoot's kernel is built in.
Everytime i flash a rom do i need to flash clockwork mod recovery?

If you open clockwork and your current recover is the same as newest version then there is no need to reflash recovery. The only reason to reflash clockwork is if there is a newer version out.

[Q] Where do you find Incredikernel beta 8?

No problem! I've been running beta 8 for most of today and its been nice. My settings are 128/1113, smartass governor. Chad's new ingenious governor is coming along nicely, I just find smartass to be a bit more stable for CPU intensive apps.

You just stepped about 2 jumps ahead of where I am. I have SetCPU and I assume that's where you find the smartass governor. So it's wise to switch to that?
I had a fail here. None of my SD card app's icons loaded. I had the same problem when I upgraded to CM#90. I think I know how to fix it...
Sorry about the lingo haha, yes, I believe you can set the governor in setCPU. I'm using cyanogenmod which has built in performance settings and I've heard using that WITH setCPU can cause conflicts. I was just saying that I set my minimum to 128mhz and max to 1113mhz and use the smartass governor. As I understand it, the governor controls how the CPU scales for certain tasks, etc. I think the smartass governor is made for performance and efficiency (I.E turning CPU usage down when screen is off then increasing CPU with usage). Chad's new "ingenious" governor also does this but is new and improved, however does have some issues and thus still a beta kernel. Hopefully that made some sense!
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I haven't played around with the CM performance settings. I might just uninstall setCPU for now and use those. I don't need any more conflicts!
All you need is in that performance menu, the governor you choose takes care of what you would use profiles in setCPU for.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Well... b8 does not install correctly for me. I don't get my icons for apps on the SD card. I tried clearing my cache, battery, dlavik first then installed. No icons. Rebooted again too.
I had the same problem on the update to CM#90 but clearing all those caches resolved it.
I would go report this on the main thread but it won't let me post. I'll have to wait and let Cyanogenmod update its kernel along the way.
So you're missing icons for apps that are installed on SD? Did you install them directly to SD or move them later? Where is it that the icons are missing from, the app drawer, home screen, etc? I have some apps on my sd and I've never heard of that happening, I'd be interested to see what's causing it.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I installed them normally then moved them to the SD card. Its the icons on the home screens. They appear normally in the app drawer. I have no clue why they won't load. I know that clearing all those caches and manually installing the ROM eliminates the problem.
I am just assuming it's the apps on the SD card. I guess I should pay a lot closer attention next time. It is a great deal of the icons. Maybe it's just the apps I moved that apps2sd did not suggest but I moved them anyway.
Still waiting for build #91 thinking maybe it addressed the problem.
I have read before that any apps with widgets need to be on internal storage.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
me too. But these aren't widgets. They all come back when I perform that ritual of deleting all the caches. Just not with b8.
Weird, I thought you said icons but that was the only thing I could think of that might cause that issue. If you flash another kernel, the icons come back though?

Battery mod for SYNERGY RLS1?

Does anybody know of a battery tweaking mod for Synergy RLS1 without God mode?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
There is a list of mods in the Synergy thread. Other than that, for anything that substanially effects the battery you would probably need to look into a custom Kernal. Otherwise you are just talking about apps/software that tries to maximize battery life with profile type settings and minimizing the use of synch and data features to make the phone more efficient with its power use.

[Q] AOKP w/ Ktoonsez kernel CPU stuck at maximum frequency

ive been running ICS since i got my phone, the battery life was horrible until i fixed the power profile, but even after that my phone's battery was not that good. i decided to flash CM10, then i switched to AOKP, both of them are awesome, but i noticed that the battery wasnt that good either, i got the ktonnsez kernel. i tried other governors, they all stay at maximum (1512MHz) after about 5 minutes of a reboot. i tried basically everything, reflash every thing, wiped everything possible. I need help plz, i wanna enjoy my S3 without worrying about the battery dying.
its all normal when i start my phone, but after 5 minutes it just stays at maximum CPU...idk why plz help im on galaxy s3 ATT i747M...i searched everywhere but still didnt find the answer
If you flashed kt747 you need to use the ktweaker app that comes with the kernel. When you find this app you need to check the two boxes into general settings

Try a different governor. Personally I use on demand and noop for the scheduler.
Make sure you don't have any other overclocking programs which may be conflicting. I used to use SetCPU but with the toonz kernel I get Ktweaker. So I got rid of SetCPU.
Funny yours is locking at maximum. Mine used to lock at 96Mhz and run like crap. The above method worked for me. Don't forget to make sure your running the most updated kernel, wipe cache/dalvik/fix permissions.

Tyvm, i did what u told me and its working for now, i was using ktweaker the whole time, but i like to check my current speed in ROM control, idk why maybe cuz the numbers are bigger? ;P im still not sure if its going to work for a long time, i did a reflash yesterday, i charged my phone at 100 percent last night, and it was sitting on low frequency, when i woke up, i was suprised to see a 6% drop of the battery, leaving me 94% left. but the speed was at 1512. and cell standby was using most of the battery.

Idk if it will last long, my phone likes to jump around from normal to maximum without me even touching the phone
Use ktweaker instead of the rom settings. Go to the performance section in settings and disable set on boot. Then, go to ktweaker and set as "apply settings immediately after boot". Once you're done, set to whatever you want it to be.
