So we have my aosp Evo 4g. Amazing battery. Works great. Can do all the things to my liking but lacks 1 thing that may be the camera limitation of no 720p. My simple q is it the quality of the camera or lack of software? There are other non sense phones w 720p . Shouldn't we have the ability to port it over? I'm no dev but an avid tech Guy and would love this. My wife's epic has an amazing camera. My Evo argueably takes better still photos...but her camcorder smokes mine ...in every way.

Im planning on getting the desire, and im REALLY interested in the 720p recording, but from the videos ive seen in youtube they look like like upscaled videos whats the bitrate ? 19-20 fps? also the audio is craptastic
What about the pictures? i HATE the pics taken by my milestone, are the desire pics any better?
EDIT: i just realized this is the wrong forum x.x please close this, im gonna open a new post in general discussion
The 720p are pretty good for me actually. When transferred to my PC, i can view it in fullscreen with HD quality.
Pictures taken without flash is great, but with flash...zzzz its terrible. Not sure bout others but it does suck for me.
720p video is still in progress and for Desire/ Nexus
with the new radio that came yesterday HTC have more
improve the quality of recording, Cyanogen and his team
working on raising the fps and video at autofocus ..
also be expected to improve the quality and the options
I can record it fine, with 20 fps, but I don't see much point in it, cause the lens doesn't give very high quality video that is really worth recording in HD
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
get a faster sd card. its much better. the one that comes with the phone is rubish

Yep,You should buy a new clas6 or clas10 card & install new radio
first instal new radio file from hire ,camacoder workin so smooth now
I used to think the video was garbage too, which is is from stock rom with stock radio. But upgraded everything, radio, modaco r8 and just tried it now (never thought it would make it better) and its fine.
Yeah, not on par with iPhone 4 HD recording, but still quite good. Its only going to get better with the modifications that are coming.
I just read on engadget that the Htc thunderbolt can autofocus while video recording with a touch of the screen. How come that the Evo doesnt have this capability or no one have implemented this into a rom or anything yet?
Well for one, the evo is almost a year old, the thunderbolt has slightly better specs, and perhaps it wasn't a focus for users, so no one ever asked. Typically the camera is focused when recording.

the thunderbolt has vastly upgraded camera than the evo. Engadgets reviews rank it as much much better. I am sure this is why it can.
im on att and just picked up the infuse. it is a very nice phone if maybe too little too late but my captivate and the i9000 have a better camera app. though the infuse has a bright led flash i felt that the captivate night mode took better dark pictures because the flash leaves a very unbalanced exposure level and funky color balance. i was wondering if the epic has a fully featured camera like the i9000 with night, backlit, fireworks, and other modes? i would use the i9000 camera but dont want to lose support for the flash. i dont mind losing 8mp mode, though im not sure i want to lose 1.3 mp mode on the ffc. the ideal situation would be a galaxys2 camera app but i dont know how to mod the apk to install on 2.2.1.
would installing the camera app from the epic give me the modes i am looking for? and has anyone ported the sgs2 camera over to 2.2.1? i know it runs on the sgs w/ 2.3.3 so im sure it's not impossible.
I'm pretty sure some of the phones have different sensors. The Captivate, i9000 and epic probably have the same back facing cameras. The i9000 and epic probably have the same FFC's. I'm pretty sure the infuse and Galaxy S2 have newer sensors that support 1.3mp on the FFC and 8mp on the back camera. I don't think it is a software patchable feature.
As far as the modes go, where should I look in the camera app?
edit: on Syndicate Rom 1.1.0 Froyo EC05 I have these modes "Single shot, smile shot, panorama, beauty, continuous, vintage, add me, action shot, cartoon"
It looks like I don't have your modes. Someone with gingerbread might have them though. I don't use gingerbread because it is horrible on battery life with the leak. Custom builds might be better but I'm satisfied with the froyo rom I use now.

i guess that answers my question. the i9000 and captivate had some great features and they eventually made there way into the vibrant but so many users feel like a flash is better than a camera that works in low light. i want both, the flash for when it is too dark to work without one but night mode for great pictures in dim light, for some reason samsung makes you choose. atleast it shoots better in the dark than an htc.
I've noticed that all non HTC or Moto devices have a 5MP camera, while HTC's and Motos have 8, Both have custom camera apps. Does this mean the AOSP cameras won't have 8MP if i use them?
Once the vigor comes out (was at a verizon store and they said early November) i'm getting it, and turning my Incredible into an iTouch, I was gonna use an ICS ROM if one as ever developed for us, as it have native FLAC support. But i can't live without my camera haha.
So i guess the point on this post is, Can i get 8MP cam out of ICS (or GB if it's known)

If what you are asking is... "does ICS support 8MP cameras" then yes, of course.
I can take 8MP pictures with GB if that's what you were asking. ICS should support 8MP pictures as well.
Sent from my Droid Incredible running some random CM7 nightly.
All AOSP roms support the cameras full resolution with the still camera, the only thing they don't have at the moment that Sense roms do it 720p video capture for GB roms. But when the GB source drops that will be fixed.
Looks like user NODO-GT has put together an HQ camera apk / patch for the Sensation on ICS. Quality looks quite amazing compared to normal pics.
Is the Sensation's camera hardware similar to/the same as ours? I wonder if there's a way if we could get 1080p recording as well (although that might take some more processor power). We had a thread that was going for a while comparing the dinc2 camera quality (grainy in aosp, etc.)
Anyway - here's the link to the thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1533238
Any chance of porting this mod over at some point? Or having something similar?

its a mod to media_profiles iirc from glancing at the thread a few days ago
we dont have a working camera on ics sense atm so i dont know if it would work for us, and idk for ics aosp (would have to look at actual changes i guess)
