I've finally decided to unlock my bootloader. My Arc is sim-free, I've followed SE/XDA instructions to the letter yet when I check if the phone is connected for unlocking(can't remember the exact command, but blue light is on, command window opened in correct folder etc.)I get an error message along the lines of adbwin.dll is not present, I'm not at home just now and if required I'll post the exact messages. All sdk packs have been downloaded, installed and updated. I'm using windows7, 64 bit(x86) and no luck... The phone is rooted on .145, I think I read somewhere that to unlock the bootloader the phone should not be rooted so if this is definitely the reason then I'd be happy to use SEUS to update then proceed, but I'm not sure this is the cause. Before somebody posts a 'let me google that for you', I have tried various threads(obv xda, android soul, android forum, SE)with no success. I'm probably missing something really obvious or straightforward, and if so please feel free to point this out
Have a look at first post in this thread - you have to copy two files
Ahhh. Thanks

hi guys apologies in advance if this in the wrong forum.
i have recently downgraded and permantly rooted my phone (i now have super user permission etc) however: (apologies for the long post)
addictivetips.com
is the guide ive been following for the rooting part and it now moves on to radio S- off. Im stumped and googled a solution before i came across this forum and am totally stuck on the next part...
i have installed android SDK program (unsure as to why though) and downloaded the needed bits to achieve the radio off. I can command prompt from the folder on my desktop (right click and command prompt here) however completing the next bits i get " not a valid command or an internal or external blah blah blah..".
can you please help??
i also found an "easy radio off toolkit" which just says "error occured probably connection".
i have my phone connected via USB charge only and debugging on.
thanks !!!
For a quick answer/reply I suggest you post your Q here, jkoljo checks this post almost everyday and answers the questions
Good luck
Hi Everyone!
I have been given a Defy MB525 with Froyo installed
Apparently O2 and Motoblur don't like each other 'cos I can't locate the phone or do anything else using "My Motoblur" as Motoblur wants Microsoft Explorer and I have Linux on my computer.
I want to manipulate files and basically get full access to my phone using a nice friendly Linux GUI, but apparently I need to root the bloody thing.
I know this question has been asked before. The thread below is an example.
http://http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9456771
The thread mentions Z4root as an answer.. It doesn't exist anymore.
It then talks about adb and pushing files into the phone.
In the most part this worked
The bit that didn't was "adb push exploit.bin /data/local/tmp/exploit.bin"
It doesn't exist on the zip file attached..
It did however have "rageagainsthecage-arm5.bin" instead
I changed the name to exploit bin in the vain hope that it might be the one and continued the instructions.
It obviously wasn't the one as :
a) it wouldn't come out of the program and
b) I got the $ sign instead of the # sign, which meant I was not root.
This was confirmed when I did the next step in the instructions and got permission denied.
After a switch off and on again (the phone) I cannot even get get back into the phone using adb. It just comes up "error: device not found" even though Linux is showing it as a directory.
So! What next?
Yours in anticipation
Fitchie
I use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765 and work very fine with froyo
You can look at the stickies at the top of the forum before posting, see "Defy all-in-one beginner's guide", understand that it probably refers to you and most likely contains the answers to any beginner questions you'd want to ask, open it, read it in case you're serious or just look for "rooting" word if you're not.
Well, you already missed the first part and posted the thread, but you could still do the rest.
Given that you're running Linux on your PC, I'm a bit puzzled - I'd think that the described above is expected from someone with unorthodox OS that is likely used to searching for various guides.
Using "SuperOneClick" is the best way to do Root on your Defy MB525.
I've done this. .. hope it'll help

SO i posted this in another thread, thought I'd start one here.
Im sure a lot of people are facing the same issue as I am. So any assistance would not only help me, but plenty of others as well. Here it goes:
I just joined XDA...if there ever existed a supernoob when it comes to phones, then thats me...i have almost absolutely no idea about flashing, roms and whatnot...i just know they exist
My problem is that I have a galaxy nexus, yakjuux, here in Canada, and as everyone else, thinking of flashing to yakju for the updates.
I have a black macbook, and I was reading on how to flash...and i just couldnt piece together all of the information thats available.
Anyone here generous enough to help me flash to yakju to get the updates?
walk me step by step as to how to flash...like literally step by step, with every bit of detail.
Im not completely dumb with technology, but its just with phones that I fail.
Thanks!!
time for some tough love... You need to start reading and figure it out. These exact threads, nearly word-for-word, have been posted for the last 3 months straight, and have been answered the exact same for 3 months straight. There are guides, stickies, posts, videos, etc. all sitting in these forums. You are seriously going to get yourself into some nasty **** if you just let someone tell you what to do and you have absolutely no idea what's going on while you're doing it. Search. Please.
Good luck.
Thanks martonikaj,
I understand the multitude of information available out there, but there is nothing for mac in terms of videos that helps flash from yakjuux to yakju.
If i missed something, would you be able to post it? I would be grateful.
Its just a matter of getting a guide that's concise and concrete.

There is nothing different about a Mac guide. In many ways its simpler. The only difference is that you need the Mac version of ADB and Fastboot files instead of Windows ones, and you need a "./" in front of the commands in Terminal (instead of Command Prompt). There are no "1 click" (toolkit) methods for OSX. Do it manually you'll be better for it anyway.
I've attached ADB and Fastboot files.
Got past that, serial number is not showing up though...aghh
is there no video to show how its done?

so you've downloaded and unzipped ADB and pointed Terminal to that folder, connected your phone and enabled USB debugging, and type "./adb devices" and nothing shows up?
umm yeah I did all of that...
i sent you a message!
Sorry for the stress haha, tough love indeed it is...but this is driving me crazy...

On computer:
1) unzip Mac_ADB_Fastboot.zip
2) Move files somewhere, like your <user name> folder
3) Open Terminal
4) type "cd " and drag the unzipped Mac_ADB_Fastboot file into the Terminal window (or manually navigate if you know how to do that) and hit enter
On phone:
1) turn on USB debugging in developer options
2) connect phone via USB
There is literally nothing else to do to get the computer to recognize the device.
Hello,
I am based in UK on Three network, I tried to unlock the HTC desire HD by following this tutorial and unlock tool available at XDA
everything went fine but when I put any other sim other than three it gives me sim lock message and ask me for pin.
Can someone help me with this. I wil very thankful. Thanks for the help
here is the tutorial I followed.
Step 1: Prepare your phone
To begin, you will need to turn on USB debugging on your phone. The can be done by:
1. Going into settings
2. Selecting applications
3. Selecting developer options
4. Checking the box titled "USB Debugging".
Now, turn your phone off and reboot in HBOOT. This can be done by holding both the volume down, then power button together.
The screen will boot up to a white simple text display with three android characters at the bottom.
Step 2: Prepare your computer
Now it's time to download and install some software. If you haven't already downloaded all the files above, do so now to a location you can remember, we're going to call this folder "Desire Rooting Folder".
Once downloaded, unzip the contents of the "android-usb-driver.zip" file to the "Desire Rooting Folder"
Next, install "winrar-xxx-xxx.exe" and the "HTCDriver3.0.0.0.7.exe".
Plug in your phone to your PC. Now on your computer, click start in the bottom left, right click My Computer, select manage.
A window will pop up titled computer management. Now select device manager in the left hand panel. You should see a section titled "Other devices". Expand this to reveal a device "Android 1.0". **If you don't see this, unplug and replug your USB connector into your computer. If you still don't see it, you may already have these files installed and can therefore skip to section 3**
Right click "Android 1.0", select update software driver and locate the file Android USB Drivers when prompted. This will install the appropriate drivers for HBOOT.
Step 3: Unlocking your phone
In order to unlock your phone you need to extract the unlock tool ("HTC_Desire_Unlock_v0.9.5.rar") to your "Desire Rooting Folder".
Now open the folder titled "HTC_Desire_Unlock_v0.9.5". Inside should be a file titled adb.exe. Double click this to make a window pop up and close. Next double click HTC_Desire_Unlock_v0.9.5.exe.
Wrong tool my friend
That's for the Desire, not the Desire HD.
If you look in the Development section, there is a tool there that will root, bootloader unlock and SIM Unlock your phone.
If you need any more help, just post back here
Also, as this is a question, please post in the Q&A section, for further reference

It might not be the right tool but it restared my phone from the last step and I thought it worked.

its all done now I have got an unlock fone now so thanks alot.
One last question is how can I upgrade it to latest Jelly Beans version ? which steps I need to follow
sorry I am a very very basic user so don't know much about updating roms and stuff.
I've got myself into quite a muddle with my rooted Z1 Compact. I was prompted to update the firmware to 14.4.A.0.157, which I did over the air. Since the update, the device had been freezing, restarting and generally being unwell. What I didn't realise, based on a piece I read somewhere, was that this was likely or probable if the phone had been rooted. My memory is a bit sketchy on all the steps I took - but briefly - it suggested checking the status of the phone, from which I followed instructions using flashtool to flash a preceding firmware (xxxx.108), which it appeared to do successfully but now the phone does not boot at all. I'm now lost what to do next and I couldn't say if I've soft or hard bricked the phone. Another article (at android.gs / unbrick-sony-xperia-z1 ) says that if it's hard bricked then I need to flash the full firmware (not just kernel only). I've downloaded and installed Emma from Sony's site. I can get the software to recognise the phone but it says it is locked and I am in the process of downloading the Android SDK to [see if I can] continue this process.
I should have stopped and asked for advice before I did any of this. Now finally I am pausing to seek advice. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
The phone will charge when plugged in, at least it is showing a green LED to imply fully charged.
Brief update: I couldn't enable USB debugging on device, as device doesn't start up. I enter fastboot mode when connecting the device (Windows) and I run "fastboot devices" in the platform-tools folder without an error however when I enter the command with my unlock key, I just get "waiting for device" (several minutes). I am assuming that this might be because I couldn't enable USB debugging on the device? Any suggestions on where to go from here?
I might as well log the antics of my adventurous mind. Given that I hit a dead end, I continued on the original path and used FlashTool to flash 14.2.A.1.114_Customized firmware (why this - because it was the only full firmware that I found). Anyway, thankfully, I now have a working device running that firmware with Android 4.3. I'll try and proceed to get back up to date.

Oh my goodness......... It is pantomime season after all
Magic. I confess to being another dizzy head when things don't go right and reading from a multiple sources and getting a bit overwhelmed & lost. Anyway, found the way out and thank you for the pointer to the sticky right-in-front-of-the-eyes info. Bookmarked.
