Wierd market and youtube bug - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My phone had been working fine all week and today it did some really wierd things. I am on srf 1.2 and genocide kernal.
First thing I noticed was that the market chanhed looks on me, I like the old style of market. The one that has green borders all around. I booted the market up and it was all normal. I then downloaded an app and I noticed it was going very slow so I cancled and loaded market again and just like that the market appearence was totally different. It had grey boarders and all the apps were lined up in a grid pattern. You dif not have to scroll down to look at the list of apps. It also seemed alot slower.
The second thing is I use opera mini browser for my internet. Youtube vids were working fine then all of sudden it said that the vids were not compatabe or somethong like that. It was just not one video it was all of them.
So I went to cwm and wiped cache and dalvik then restored. This fixed the youtube problem, but the market switched again later for no reason.
Any suggestions? Thanls

Both apps updated today. You could try uninstalling updates in applications.

Well with the market they pushed out a new version, as you can tell. Youtube, I can't help you on that
Posted from my pedo van.

I like the new market.
Posted from my awesome EPIC.

Lol, you're talking about the market that everyone (most of us) had weeks back before it was updated to the public. =P as for the Youtube issue, all with epics and many other phones share your issue, just go to settings, manage applications, select youtube, and uninstall the update for now.

I am not using the youtube app. I am using opera mobile and it will not let me watch videos. I have cleared data in opera but that did not help.

How do I updatd my flash player

Ok I updated my flash player and it still does not work, this is the message I get.
The address type is unknown or unsupported
You tried to access the address vnd.youtube:cq4voeNuWEY?vndapp=youtube_mobile&vndclient=mv-google&vndel=index, which is currently unavailable. Please make sure that the web address (URL) is correctly spelled and punctuated, then try reloading the page.

Where is Opera getting that address from? It is not a valid address. Is it some type of redirector? Rather than drive yourself crazy wouldn't it be easier to switch browsers? Like to Dolphin or Miren?

Rather odd. Have you changed your LCD density at all? That will cause some market apps not to show up if they are designed for '240' density.
If you haven't, try going to Settings > Applications > All > Market & uninstall updates and clear your market cache. Reboot your phone and give that a whirl.
Yeah i already tried that with the same result. Its super weird i dont know why i cant see it in the market its like its hidden or something.
The YouTube app has been acting very weird lately, as of last night it would crash randomly and not show my subscriptions. I guess the last update they made screwed it up as I have been seeing more and more postings about this.

Yep, I noticed the exact same thing. I noticed that my 'Home page' was cluttered with stuff that is not relevant to what I watch as well.
For some reason youtube in the market does not support our phone. Maybe its because of us having a bigger screen? If you have appbrain it will show it as in need of an update if you go to update thru appbrain it will take you to the app on the market but at the top it will say device not supported. The only work around to this I found was to find out what was the latest version and I googled the apk and installed it.

Another problem just appeared...or is it a problem?

Whenever I try to click a video on YouTube, a pop-up appears asking me to save the video, rather than viewing it on the phone... not sure why it's doing this.
Any ideas how to fix this?
Thanks
First off. What ROM, Kernel, and recovery are you using?
How long has this been happening or when did it start happening?
I just checked my YouTube and it's not doing this. I'm on the latest AOKP and using Datkside Kernel and TWRP.

Youtube app or web?
Not n issue wit the phone it n application, had it a few times actually, my guess is youtube isn't installed, & ur either using a different browser, or what video application do u use? (Moboplayer can actually override browser settings & automaticly play youtube on low through it, another (can't remember name) does this exact thing,) reinstall youtube should fix
Using Darkside Evo 3 (no kernel flashed).
Both on YouTube app and web which I use Opera Mini Browser.
I wonder if it's something I froze on Titanium app, but looked through it today and can't see anything that would be affected by it.
I'll just re-flash the ROM, no big deal, see what happens from there.
Thought I'd toss the question here since everyone is pretty knowledgeable and helpful, maybe someone had the same problem at some point.
My bigger issue still is the battery life which blows.

[Q] Youtube Links won't Open in Youtube App

So since I got the 4.1.2 update on my Optimus G (Bell) anytime i click a youtube link it wont load the app anymore. It loads it in a browser and plays in the tiny window. It used to work seamlessly before, and now I can't figure out how to get it working again. Any ideas?

You should try going to settings->apps->all->The browser in question->Clear defaults. You'll get up all those choose default app boxes again, but maybe this will let you choose?
Btw, I've noticed that youtu.be links seem to always open in my browser (maxthon).
yeah ive tried that both with youtube and the browser. when i click a youtube link it gives me the options of loading it in browser or chrome, but the youtube app isnt on that list.
You could try "Redirect for youtu.be" on the play store, app description also gives an idea what your problem is. It seems to be helping for me!

Edit: Just tried opening a youtube link, got up the choices of "internet or redirect", seems to have fixed my problem

Latest v5.02 update and browsers

Anyone notice that Dolphin, Boat Browser for Tablet and Maxthon browsers seem to force close a lot since this latest update? I notice it most at IMDB.com when browsing pretty hard through it. Just poof, and back to desktop.

I have applied the latest OTA (yesterday) and use Boat Browser. I've not had one FC or issue as you describe and just went to imdb.com without a problem.

Maybe I need a full reset.....I was in there (IMDB) last night and added a few TV shows to a list and removed some and searched for others. At about 5 minutes with Dolphin the screen locked up and then it went to Home. Tried the others I mentioned and they fell short too doing the same things....
But the stock browser is doing fine....go figure.

Did a full reset yesterday and after a few minor issues things seem like they're back to normal. I use Apex Launcher and maybe I didn't get it setup right, but I was getting warnings about widgets not loading properly. I emptied all screens of all widgets and still would see the warning at start and end of the Intellecast app. So I switched the default loader back to Touchwiz. No errors. Rebooted and then restarted Apex and reset it as default launcher. Now, no problems.
Yippie!

What is mdnsd and why did it just start eating my battery?

Just today there is a new item on my battery stats....mdnsd. It is the top item in battery stats. Anyone have any ideas what it is, why it is suddenly killing my battery, and how to fix it?
This is on stock unrooted OJ6. (It showed up on the second day of use for OJ6.)
As I continue searching for a solution, I find this bug report from mobile Firefox regarding 42.0:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1215012
In short, is says it this may be a bug in certain beta firefox mobile, and Stable version 42.0 (which is the version I am using) which causes excessive mdnsd usage. Not sure if this is it, but I'll follow this for a while.
Try another browser. Chrome is impressive but I didn't like their merge tabs feature so I disabled it (right near the top of settings).
I recently kicked FlashFox (not to be confused with Mozilla) to the curb for recent constant running of a collector service; reported the app twice for this (the app kept restarting this service). Switched to Mercury browser for a flash browser.
I hate apps that don't behave... browsers can be the worse offenders here.

I don't sign-in or sync browsers. I tend to use my phone a lot for important stuff on the web so I sync my open tabs with titanium as needed and use bank apps. Chrome doesn't get all bogged-down with all those tabs ready to open.
I could just make them shortcuts but I got started on that with temporary browser tests until I could settle on one... creature of habit.

Dolphin was my main browser for a couple years but I pretty much use chrome now.
Following. Same thing popped up on my unrooted sg6 edge in the past 3 days. I am a Firefox sync user, but not on beta, just GA from play store. I deinstalled and rebooted, will check in the morning to see if the problem persists.
