I bought a desire hd from Dubai. There is no market app on it by default l. I had a similer problem once with Motorola xt720.
Anybody know how to get the market app on the phone by rooting? Or anything else that might be helpful? Thanks in advance

Download the market application (found here on the forums - use search )
Then use one of the methods to put the app on the phone.
1. via ADB recovery booted
2. flashable.zip
3. installable APK.
All of these can be found here.
Alright, I'll give it a shot. Thanks man

Just picked up the device. No Google Talk video chat? Only Qik!?
you can certainly download the apk and install it
it's floating all over XDA forum, just google it
i have the new apk and to install it i woud have to uninstall the old one but i dont no if i uninstall the old one the new one might no let me install
I am pretty sure root is required for this, which we do not have yet.
Root would be required correct? Qik isn't horrible by any means. But google isn't certainly better.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
You would need root to install the apk plus the library file that needs to go into /system/lib .
yea u would need root u cant uninstll the old one and when u try to install the new one u cant because its already on the phone so i tried root explorer and u cant do it that way the system has read only
Google Talk Video Chat
Hey guys,
My friends epic 4g touch has a video chat feature in the Talk app. I checked my app, and it didn't have that feature. I did a quick search and saw that it was an update that came with 2.3.4. We have 2.3.5....
Any ideas?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
You can use VTok on android market. Tried it and it worked fine for a while. It then froze up. Qik sucks.
There is a new one I was reading about somewhere called ChatOn, it is in the Marketplace I think... at any rate, you can chat across platforms, like SGS2 to IOS for instance. Have not had a chance to try it yet.
Got Root, now,,
Anyone find an apk that works with our phones?
Really need this

Does anyone have the apk for N.O.V.A. 2 HD that comes pre-installed on the Touchwiz ROMs?
I currently do not have this phone activated with Sprint and it will not download on Wi-Fi for some reason. I only have the shortcut link that tells you that it requires additional files. I do not need the SD files since I already have them.
If anyone can pm me a link it would be appreciated.

did u try play store? if not then maybe google it.. shouldnt be hard to find.. i for one paid for the latest nova
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
I checked the Play store and it needs to be purchased.
But when I still had Sprint service the app came with the phone. Upon first boot it installed a shortcut that once opened downloaded the application over 3G. Why should I pay for the app if it comes preloaded?
I've checked Google and the only ones I find will start the game where it loads the first cinematic then crashes. Skipping the cinematic will give a black screen then the app stops responding.

it was a demo
Well in that case I guess I don't want it if it was only a demo...
I never played it with my last E4GT... downloaded the files then bricked before trying it.

And heres bbc iplayer
Install both it will work

I suspected that, but would have expected it to say it required flash. Instead of the device isn't compatible. Will try flash.
Edit... no flash player on playstore... thanks for the download link.
Edit 2. Nope. Still says device not compatible.
I think BBC iPlayer normally needs to detect your device name and if it doesn't know it , it doesn't let you join the party.

Try clear data in iplayer and uninstall it then reinstall working fine on mine .anyone else working

To clarify. Im am trying to download it from PlayStore. Computer says no. I am assuming if i just install the apk it will work fine? Busy of late with a newborn. Brain working slow. Lol
Edit Hey presto. Thanks for the download links. It's now working. Didn't think about using the apk. Baby turned brain to mush haha. just wish there was something worth watching.
Hope this thread helps others forgetting to do the obvious first.

Hey ppl
My Note 2 arrives tomorrow so thought id check on BBC iplayer since there's no flash and i found this. I'm not very techy and mostly iphone user past few years so forgive me if this sounds dumb...
what is apk? I don't want to boot or install a custom rom or any of the fancy things I see on here as I'm not advanced enough to do so.
The links you post above for flash and something else? Do you need a custom rom for these?
I was hoping I could just download an app to watch iplayer but is it not a simple thing to do?
Would appreciate your help.
Thanks
Nick
Toy cam Jay download the BBC media player app from play store and it will link you directly to the BBC iplayer for mobile. It does work.

an .apk is basically the application itself.
Adobe don't support Flash on Jellybean (Android 4.1) so the BBC iPlayer app says it's not compatible with the note 2 if you search for it in the Play store.
To get around this, all you have to do is go to Settings > Security and tick "Unkown sources Allow installation of non-Market apps"
Then you go back to stesteste's post on page 1 of this thread and download the two files (install_flash_player_ics.apk and bbc.iplayer.android.apk) and put them somewhere on your phone.
Then use a file manager to open the files, and you should be prompted to install them (install the flash player apk first, then the iplayer one) and you'll have iplayer working fine.

Ah, so no custom ROM's required!
Superb, thanks for your help appreciate it.
Assuming no damage can be done to phone or viruses associated with installing apk files? Read somewhere to be careful of viruses on Android.
thanks again, will do this tomorrow.

This version works without Flash : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=air.uk.co.bbc.android.mediaplayer
Hi Nick, .apk files "are" Android App files.
That's the name of the file type used .... all the apps you download & use on an Android phone will be .apk
For eg. if you went on PLAY & downloaded the "Opera Mobile web browser" the file it sends to your phone is called "OperaMobile.apk" (BTW it's the only browser i use as you get text reflow after zooming)
Thank you all ...check the sig its here and its amazing! Got flash installed ok and writing this with s-pen how good is this phone!

It's asking you to replace a system app which means that it is already installed. just check again mate..
To make sure that its installed go to Setting --> Apps --> All then search for "notes"
If you found it, try to add its widget to your homescreen. and also, make sure when you are searching for it in the "app drawer" that you are in "all" tab not in "downloads" tab because it's a system app and it is not downloaded..
If notes app didn't show up that means that there is something wrong with that notes app you have and it requires root access to remove that system app and replace it with another one but its pointless as you said that your phone is not rooted..
