hi
first of all this thread is only for developers.. and the files here are under development and not yet working
I search every where regarding wifi-direct
and i found 100% it is software issue, and the SGSI hardware is compatible to run this feature
then i started the journey on SGSII and I found all the files needed to run wifi direct
it is complicated a little bit to list all the files here
but i will when needed
i modify values (public,string,ids,layout)
layout
drawable
drawable-hdpi
androidmanifest
XML
and added smali files needed
then compile ,,,
when test on device the setting icon itself doesn't appear !
and i think it is an android-manifest issue !
so i decided after 3 weeks of hard working to share with developers to help in this issue so we may get the way to do it
the modded setting file is for JVR 2.3.4 ROM
and it is here
http://www.multiupload.com/VA5LELQF8P
so any help would be grait

the good news that there are nothing important in framework.jar
Maybe you can work with zohawkish, he is doing a SGS2 rom port http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1032599

I'm sorry I am not a developer but I'm wondering why there is so little apparent enthusiasm for this thread?
I've been using the SGS2 for a couple of months now and Wifi Direct just blows me away. I only know one other person with an SGS2 but I can send him megabytes in the blink of an eye.
Samsung dropped the ball by advertising that the SGS had bluetooth 3.0 capability but neglecting to mention that Android doesn't support bluetooth 3.
For wifi direct a bluetooth chip and an N capable wifi chip are required and if I'm not wrong and the Galaxy S has both of these.
Developers should be absolutely striving to unlock the potential of wifi direct in this device. I don't even have an i9000 anymore but the thoughts of being able to do fast file transfers with my buddies who do is my motivation for bumping this post.
It would be a very worthwhile and rewarding achievement, not just for i9000 users but for anyone with a wifi direct device because the proliferation of wifi direct is essential in making it the exciting giant step forward it could and should be.
Thank you juffo for all your hard work in this area.

You should look here, wifi direct seems to be perfectly working on Galaxy S : http://forum.frandroid.com/topic/70131-tuto-le-wi-fi-direct-cest-possible/
EDIT : I forgot to mention, it's in french ^^
He is using an app though (Wifi Cast Lite) - maybe thats all thats needed?

this wont work between wifi cast & wifi direct
it will work only between devices that holds the same app
OH MY GOD,
i never use this line but i think wifi direct on the sgs would be a good time to use it ^^
this would be so awesome and it should definatly be investigated by all developers here ^^
i'm not a developer either but i want to bump this post because this should not be forgotten
all my thanks to the developers already trying to get this working
here is a link for "wifi cast lite" which ,however, emulates wifi direct or something like that ^^
tut for testing <bt and wlan has to be enabled> :
install wifi cast on two devices which are ready for wifi direct but dont open
then activate wifi ap on one of this devices
open wifi cast on this device and configure your ap
open wifi cast on the other device and login to the ap of the first device
now you can transfer big files -100mb+- in just some minutes ^^
this app was shown on ces 2011 and was developed by lg if i understood everything correctly
i also read that the sgs is the first wifi direct certified smartphone ^^
http://www.samsunggalaxysforum.com/...irst-ever-smartphone-to-do-wi-fi-direct/?wap2
edit: definatly certified
http://certifications.wi-fi.org/pdf_certificate.php?cid=WFA8921
maybe this app helps to understand how it is done and how to get this implemented into a rom
I think there is a dedicated app for Wifi Direct on SGS II. Have you tried using that?
EDIT: I think Kernel Changes are required to get this to work.
I will try wifi cast lite later today and then i will report ^^
had no luck today because there wasn't the possibility to test it.
excuse this bump but i don't want to let this thread die ...
tested wifi cast today and wooooow, its awesome bluetooth with the speed of wlan ^^ tested between gt-i9000 and gt-i9100

Yes this is the real thing!
I can't believe how long it took for this to get out to the public finally. This is works (so far for over 1 week) great on my T-Mobile Dash. I didn't need to CID unlock it or anything (though i believe I tried application unlock app and that didn't seem to have worked). This is T-Mobile branded so if you have a different carrier there MAY be some modification required for proper function...though I wouldn't really know since I use T-Mobile -
This thing has it all working so far except the T-Zones in WINWAP. It tells you this version of WinWAP is not supported by tmo..if you are testing you are using an unregistered version and you should contact your test lead to get it registered...No biggie because you can access your account info via the new IE browser.
The new IE Browser is quicker and more functional in general. You also get Live! Search for 411 directory (which can dial/add to contacts directly from there!!!!) also Satellite and road map/GPS/directions/traffic... oh yes no bull... It has Windows LIVE! messenger and email integration to your home screen which is still buggy (gives error and you need to change to another home screen). Tmobile Blue home screen works fine...though there is a BETA stamp in the lower right corner (Also a big red UI TEST BUILD notice when you turn on the phone...oh well).
Anyways...I'm sure you've read all about the new features forever and been pissed that a couple of leaks for other version were out but not our beloved Dash. Here it is guys...Oh yes not a virus either.
Just one bit of advice. BE PATIENT DURING THE UPGRADE !!! It may look like it freezes at some points, but trust me it didn't.
File named RUU_Excalibur_TMO_US_1.20.531.1_4.1.13.34_02.79.90_Test.exe and it is 44.7 MB
Since I can't attach it here to the post I am posting the link to a torrent site which I've...yeah...well it's there and it works:
http://www.demonoid.com/files/details/1061423/4574331/
If for some reason the link doesn't work go to the main webpage and search...if you STILL can't find it...you don't need to be upgrading your phone - you'll probably break something lol
fo a second there i thought you had a different beta rom this has already been posted but thanks anyways!
thanks for posting a link, but this has been discussed in this forum for two weeks and there are a few threads that discuss different aspects of this rom. you really should do a little research as you will find fixes for a few of the small bugs you are no doubt experiencing
argh...I searched and didn't see any thread clearly saying there was something for the excalibur...maybe I should have looked closer. Sorry guys, but hey - it's another source to download it from I guess. Hopefully someone finds this useful.
Didn't mean to make it seem like I released something "newer" -
oh well - This site rox
Hi,
On the 14th of March i started a new project called XDA File Server. The purpose of the site is to host files for Dev's and give users a nice spot where they can find them. And so far it's been busy! 1,7TB has been uploaded allready and 11000+ vistors and more then 11000 files served!
The server it self runs on a 100mbit optic fiber line and should provide a decent speed to most people.
On the moment you'll find ROMS for the asus transformer, lg optimus 2x and xperia s (orginal firmware on the moment), i'm still expanding but it takes time and money! Hope you guys/girls like it !
the url: http://www.xdafileserver.nl
You can also follow me on xdafileserver on twitter.
Korumera
*bump*
I'm still working on a easy and clean design so dont panic when you see one design first and a few seconds or minutes an other one, the downloads will go on.
Some stats so far:
almost 1000 unique vistors in only 3 days! 190GB downloaded so that's nice too. If any other dev's need xs let me know. I'll add some stock roms as well by gee one for restoring
Stock recovery might be a good addition as well.

Thanks for the tip
I'll find a good version and add it
Actually now that i think about it a good selection of tools like nvflash, adb, nachoroot, vipermod, drivers, superwipe, CWM 3.something and 5.something, Rogue recovery, other stuff that might be useful. Sort of like a one stop shopping kinda place.
This is such an awesome gesture. Thank you!
Another suggestion: Maybe you can have some pages (or the main pages) on your site link through coralcdn.org by appending .nyud.net to the domain part of your URL. By doing this, for public content, HTTP requests are automatically redirected through a custom peer-to-peer network using DNS and distributed amongst a huge number of caching proxies, reducing the load on the original server as well as bringing content closer (network topologically) to the requester.
Note: I am not connected to coralcdn.org in any way.

Good idea! I'll msg most of these dev's if they are ok with the mirror ( think they are but it's nice to do). And i'll make a folder for these things.
I'm still working on the site to make it as fast as possible for users that are on the other side of the world, but it's not going to be routed trough any dns service of anykind it's on a 100mbit fiber line it should be fast enough and it should support proper download managers (so you could resume).
I'll show some stats from this week later on
I'm in indonesia if that's far enough away for ya. Sometimes it drops out but that's at my end and it still maxes out my 3g.

Ok i've added some other developers roms to the server and i've registerd a new url for it you can now bookmark
http://www.xdafileserver.nl for all your roms!
If you are a dev or know one that needs a place to host their roms let them contact me and i'll see what i can do.
@Moderator Is it possible to sticky this topic? makes it much easier for me to keep people informed!
Ugg getting annoyed tried 15 times to download mar 27 cm9.
Keeps saying file is finished at like 15 megs.
Is there anything going on or is it just me?
edit: seems my 3g doesnt like your server. On a landline it seems to be working well.
Nopes it's running on full speed on the moment. But i'm going to change setup soon so perhaps that will fix it for you
oh and for those on 3g try: THIS and let me know of that works
Moving to a more appropriate place
I find your project very useful.
Do you consider including other devices as well?
Hi
Yes that's the general idea indeed. But i'm starting up slowly with some dev's and adding more while to goes on. First wanna see how much data this is gonna take .
A member of team xperia is uploading some files and is gonna use it for the 2011 range (and the comming 2012) after that i'll find and ask a galaxy 2 dev if he want's to mirror/host the files on my server
Just a note that the word 'you' on the website's main banner should read 'your'. As if you don't have enough to do.
Thanks for your work and such a cool idea for a Site.

however i think the ui is always going to be limited, and is aimed at very basic phones at the moment (although the demoed an s2 running it) and is due to be launched in south america first.

A few months ago, when I had to send a big video to a friend's phone and realized that Bluetooth really sucks, I found out about WiFi Direct.
I googled a lot, but could not find a way to get it to work on my phone, although the I9000 was officially called the "first phone certified with WiFi Direct".
As I'm interested in programming, I started to research what I could do to develop an app that could send files at similar speeds and finally found out WiFi Tethering could work in combination with a simple HTTP server.
I started to write on the app in my free time, got it nearly ready, but stopped working on it because it became quite busy at school.
In the meantime I had switched my phone, but in the holidays I picked up the project again, finished the app and published it on Google Play. It's available there since about two months and received an update recently.
I want to share this app with you guys now. It's free and I hope you'll find it useful.
The app allows for speeds of up to 32 Mbit/s, which means e.g. 1 Gigabyte in just over 4 minutes (depending on devices)
Features:
✔ Up to 20x speed of bluetooth
✔ The receiver is device-independent
✔ No need for a common Wi-Fi connection
✔ No data usage for file transfers
✔ The receiver does not have to have the app installed
✔ Send single or multiple files
✔ Easy to setup: Use QR codes to allow the receiver to easily connect to the wifi and open the receiving URL
Play Store Link:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.floriandraschbacher.fastfiletransfer
APK: http://bit.ly/FastFileTransfer
I hope you find this useful!

No, this won't affect Fast File Transfer.
As mentioned, the app uses WiFi tethering (and not WiFi direct) and therefore will still offer fast file transfers.
So don't worry if the next CM10 does not have WiFi Direct, just use Fast File Transfer instead
thank you very much, galaxy i9000 was first device with wifi direct but i had never use it, will try it tomorrow with friend of my. thank you one more time...
Is it possible to make out a way to receive files also... would be more useful then...
Btw the app is very good as now i can shut the mouth of my frnds who show off...
Edit : had to install app in frnds phone and all good in receiving too...
Is there any chance that in future versions, the step of opening the browser or QR code, no need to do it ?
I mean, I do not see the need to open the browser on your second device because the two devices are "connected".
The way that this now appears that the second device downloads the file and not the first device sends it.
I hope I have explained.
Sorry for my english

You could send multiple files once and create a bookmark to the index page in the browser on the recipient device.
Maybe I'll implement a simple receiving part in the next version.

This is technically impossible without having an app installed on the recipient's device. Maybe the receiving part mentioned above will help you, but it will require the receiver to have the app installed, if he wants to benefit from the "fast receiving" function.
Thanks for all your praise
Very nice and handy app. Thank you.

Hello , I know some of you will find this request a bit strange ,maybe even barmy .
I will explain , My partner has learning difficulties , she needed a new phone and was determined (as women are) to have a touchscreen model , I purchased a galaxy s4 mini, and thanks to some help from this forum have successfully rooted it and installed a good explorer program . my problem is that I cannot afford to just give her the phone as-is ,she only needs to be able to phone and text ,absolutely nothing else ,i dont want to just leave the rest (apps etc.) intact because i dont want a huge bill for apps updating etc and accidental internet access .
So I have set about deleteng the apps that are deletable , and turning off wi-fi . other apps have all been disabled and/or hidden .
though I have been keeping an eye on it and wi-fi seems to turn itself back on quite often .
What I need is some guidance on how to completely blitz the internet and wifi access so they will never work under any conditions and will be incapable of being turned on automatically or manually .
Also ,are there any other means to ensure that nothing on the device can ever "update" and use bandwidth silently ,including the device itself .
I realize this is the oposite of what most users would want and probably a "big ask"
thanks , Graham

Well there may be a way to do it via the system hosts file, by setting an invalid DNS server or something. In bit busy to search now mate but good luck and you will find a way
