[Q] Installing my first custom ROM: Fail! - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been trying to install the JokerDroid ROM for my wildfire, but I'm failing when trying to install the zip file. I'm sure its something obvious, but I can't work it out!
I'm currently running the stock Froyo, and I've used Revolutionary to S=OFF the phone. I've placed the jokerdroid4.2buzz.zip on the root of my SD card.
First I powered the phone down, and booted into Revovery. I then did a full backup, and wiped the user data.
I then tried to install Jokerdroid and I get an error about deprecated commands using CWM 3X. I've seen the info about not being able to install Sense ROMs wirh CWM 3X, so I restored the backup, and rebooted back to my rooted stock froyo.
I then used Rom Manager to restart into ClockworkMod 2.X . After wiping the user data again, I used the option to install ZIP from SDCARD, and I'm geting Signature verification failed.
What am I doing wrong?

Toggle Signature Verification in Clockworkmod. When in Clockworkmod, Navigate to Install Zip from SDCard, here, the 3rd option will be Toggle Signature Verification. Select it. You should see Signature Check : Disabled Text below. Then try reflashing

did you wipe everything? dalvik cache, cache and did a factory reset? If one of them is not cleared, it might give errors (as I had when flashing something once).

thanks for your help guys. After turning off the signature check, I was still getting errors about needing to use edify, so realised I wasn't using the older CWM, I was still using the one installed by Revolutionary. I used Rom Manager to flash the older CWM, and then restarted into CWM 2.X (noticable difference from CWM 3.X this time) and the zip file installed without error.
I'm now performing the first boot of JokerDroid, wish me luck!
Thanks for helping out a noob!

[Q] Having BIG problem, need help!

Okay, so earlier today I rooted my evo and flashed the CM6 ROM. A little later I tried to install Google apps.
I followed a tutorial on youtube on how to install gapps using rom manager.
Now my Evo is stuck in the Clockworkmod recovery screen and when I click reboot system now it reboots and goes back to the clockworkmod screen. I tried wiping data/factory reset and then re-installing the CM6 ROM, it did not work.
I really need some help here, I'm not too experienced and I don't want to brick my Evo. How do i fix this?? I am freaking out. Thank you!
I use AmonRA recovery personally and flash everything through recovery. I had too many problems when I tried flashing things through Rom Manager app. Do you have a nandroid backup? If so install the backup and then boot into recovery and reinstall CM6 and gapps back to back in the same recovery session. If no backup, download PC36IMG that corresponds with your hboot version and put it on the root of your sd card. Boot into bootloader by holding volume down and power at the same time. It will scan the sd card for PC36IMG and then verify it. It will then ask you if you want to update. Select yes and let it do its thing and then when it asks if you want to reboot select yes. This will put you back to stock and may unroot, so you may have to do the root procedure again. Then install CM6 and gapps in same recovery session.
Before all this try wiping cache and davlick cache and reboot. If that doesn't work try powering off phone through clockwork and then boot into bootloader. It will scan for PC36IMG and not find it then you will have options to boot into different things. Select recovery, and it will boot into Clockwork. Wipe cache and davlick cache and reboot. See if this works. If not you will have to nandroid or go back to stock probably unless someone that has had this problem and comes along to help you fix it. Always wipe cache and davlick when installing something new like gapps or kernels and full wipe when installing a new Rom, unless you are updating a Rom then just Davlick and Cache.
As long as the phone turns on it is not bricked.

If you are having issues getting the img on your SD card, if you have a card reader handy just use that to transfer it over

I did find the correct one for my hboot version, but another question I have is do I need to flash unrevoked-forever-son.zip since I rooted using unrevoked 3.32? Or do I just put the PC36IMG on the sd card and flash it? Thanks.
Okay, I seem to have gotten it back to stock. Thank god, thought I lost my evo for a minute! Thanks to those who helped me out, its 4:45 in the morning and now I can finally go to bed! ;]
LOL glad ya got it back.. Yeah thats where I was heading before I seen your post..Its 5:46 am and Im not sure how many Evo people are actually on at this time so...anyway nite
I stayed on to help as long as I could, but had to go to work. Sorry I couldn't be here to help with more questions. Funny I was just getting up for work and you guys were just going to bed.
Glad you got it fixed for now. Remember to flash CM6 from recovery and not Rom Manager. Also, flash Gapps from recovery and not Rom Manager app. Flash CM then gapps and reboot. Make sure you do a full wipe first though. You could also look for Calkulin's tools thread in Dev section of EVO forum and find his wipe all zip. You just flash it like any other zip but it formats data, cache, boot and system partitions so that when you flash a new ROM nothing is left over from old one. Good luck my friend and happy flashing.
PS. I don't think the stock rom would give you s-on since you already had s-off, so you should be good to go. I could be wrong, but as long as you still have a custom recovery and s-off you should be good to flash any Rom.
evo camera
ok i have a root evo but my camara dosent work ... can some body help me to fx that problem
What rom are you using? Do they list camera issues or camera not working in the initial post with the rom?

Noob questions regarding installing CM

I rooted my phone back in December/January and installed the visionary rom on my Bell Desire Z. I've since wiped my pc hdd nad since I haven't done anything in a while relating to root, I've forgotten a lot. I have a few simple questions regarding the instructions for installing the CM7 rom.
It says to do a Nandroid backup. I'm assuming clockwork will work for a nand backup just as well right?
How do I wipe it? Use the factory reset data in settings? Will I have to reinstall clockwork recovery and titanium backup? Will I have root it again?
I'm getting the info from this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=956227
It also says to optionally install the google addon. What is that and where do I get it. I was also looking at baconbits with CM7 in Clockwork. Is that what enables overclocking?
A nandroid back up is created within clockwork mod, which can be accessed by going into recovery manually or through rom manager, which will be already present in many of the roms you'll flash.
One you're rooted, no need to reroot. All apps usually get reinstalled automatically.

When you're doing an install in Clockwork, it prompts you for doing a backup (Nandroid) and also asks if you want to wipe your phone and cache.
Ok, thanks a lot. I've done a Rom install through Clockwork before, but that was awhile ago.
So I'm having problems installing it. When Clockwork asked me to wipe and backup, it would just restart on me. So I went into Clockwork and told it to reboot into recovery mode and I made a back up and wiped my data from there.
Now when I try to install a CM from sd card in Clockwork it just reboots...thats it. I updated to Clockwork 3. It says under current version it's 3, but at the top of the screen it still says 2.5. How do I fix this and install CM?
Edit...I tried clearing the download cache in clockwork and then when I tried to install rom it showed as a zip file. I added the G-app zip to the CM zip but it still rebooted.
Reedit : Installed the zips manually...got repeating android on skateboard and wiped both options in recovery mode and now it's ok. Thanks for all your help.

I think you might be getting CWM and RM confused; when you boot into recovery, what color is the text, orange or green?

help im stuck on htc evo screen logo and i cant restore

i was on Calkulin's_EViO_2_ROM_v1.8 and i rebooted to recovery to restore back to cm7 rc4 but it gives me error error while flashing image. so i try to wipe and reinstall another rom and works but it still stuck in htc logo.
Are you performing a full wipe, factory/data, cache, and dalvik?
yes i performing full wipe and everything im uisng clockworkmod recovery 3.0.0.5. did those and install a rom but still stuck in logo screen and i cant restore i made few backup and none them work!?
Have you tried going into the bootloader, select clear storage [factory reset], then flash the rom? Also are you flashing a kernel?
im just flashing regular rom on using clockworkmod. ived done this flashing roms many times and never happen like this before.
Well at this point, it seems like your old backup may be corrupted. Make a new backup, and then try to restore it.
how i do backup when i already delet wipe already so i jsut need to install another rom and do backup and restore it?

Correct, make a backup of your current, flash a new rom, then try and restore.
ok i install Calkulin's_EViO_2_ROM_v1.8 agian backup and try restore but it gives me boot image error same thing.
i had a similar issue. my phone wouldnt even boot past the splash screen but i was able to correct that by flashing the stock evo ruu in hboot from my sd card then reflashing a custom rom over that. im not sure if you have to re-root but in my case i had to run unrevoked again. i had to reflash at least 4 times before my issue resolved but havent had any issues since
can you show me the steps and what i need?
1. Go into recovery, select backup, backup current rom
2. Wipe factory/data, cache, dalvik cache under advanced
3. Flash a new rom, let it boot up, go back to recovery, backup that rom
4. Restore previous backup just made
You can install the official RUU upddate from sprint then download the newest HTC SYNC to your computer then plug in the phone thru the usb and run the RUU file as if you are running an app. Remember this will delete everything includidn your root but you can easily re-root with unrevoked. Hope that helps? I had that problem on my incredible and I did this and it fixed it.

That's a separate partition, that is okay, since you don't have it, no ened to worry about it.

to unroot do i need 2.2 version to unroot?
If you're on hboot 2.10, you'll need a 3.70 ruu.
im sorry please show me how to unroot my phone since i cant boot up im on bootloader.
Use Sprint Lovers ROM the PC36IMG.zip version put on root of sdcard go into bootloader, update, reboot there you go. No re-root needed. I ALWAYS keep this on my sdcard root just in case. Trust me it saved my EVO more than once. You will lose everything but better lost info than lost phone. Try RA Recovery...better than any IMHO

[Q] defy help can't restore backup or install new rom

hello everyone i am new but i have read many posts and none of them have helped me, ok i can't seem to restore any of my backups or install a new rom
i have installed cm 10 before this
(mb525 red lenses)
i have tried doing this many times:
http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/archive/t-1412358.html (were i got the firmware.sbf Fixed SBF file from)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216982
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1818520
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1618718
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054447
(and lots more)
so i restore from an sbf file the ones i have tried:
JORDN_U3_6.36.0_SIGNED_USAJRDNTMOB1B4B5DE1028.0R_JORDANTMO_P022_HWp3_Service1FF.sbf
JORDN_U3_97.21.51.sbf
when i restore from them i use SuperOneClick v2.3.1 to root then i install the SndInitDefy_2.3.apk
when i do that i can't boot into boot menu unless i flash firmware.sbf after installing it and when i do that i can't go back into stock
or if i use defy_recovery-1218-0326-signed.apk to get into a old clockwork that wont restore back ups and it installs the rom way to fast so it isn't installing at all it just says it is and then if i reboot it boot loops i have tried wiping in every way before and after but what i can do is install
touchbootmenuV2.0beta_multibootV0.8-20120829-signed.zip that gives me a newer clockwork mod but half the time the sd card or the cashe won't mount but when they do system and data can not be restored to and when i install a rom it boot loops but it installs slower than before but still to fast
and when ever i get a boot loop i have to start this all over again i have been looking everywhere but i cant find a way to fix this i have also tried flashing different kernels before and after flashing the rom and using defy_fullwipe_ext3.zip and defy_fullwipe_ext4.zip but i think the problem is that i can't restore system or data
anything would be very help full
thanks.
an update
ok, i was able to get cm 7 on my phone today by doing this:
Flash this SBF file: JORDN_U3_97.21.51.sbf
Root my phone with super one click
Install 2nd Init 1.4.2
Flash Fixed SBF: firmware.sbf
Reboot to CMW recovery, and wipe Data/Cache.
Restore this Nandroid Backup: 2011-06-11.14.14.27
Install CM7 then install Google Apps.
but when i do this and try to install:
CM10-20120924-NIGHTLY-mb525.zip
CM10-20121205-NIGHTLY-mb526.zip
CM10-20121204-NIGHTLY-mb526.zip
after it flashes the blue led it flashes red then reboots
another update i was able to get cm 7 on my phone but now i only have 128mb i have tried:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1162464
http://forum.cyanogenmod.org/topic/35640-internal-space-only-128mb-language-resets-at-reboot/
they did not help me i'm starting to hate this phone
and if i do a stock wipe before installing cm7 it does nothing but with miui it doesnt boot at all
i fixed it
i flashed
DEFYPLUS_U3_4.5.1-134_DFP-137_ND_SIGN_SIGNED_UCADEFYEMARAB1B80AA004.0R_PDS03C_USAJRDNGIBRRTNORD_P009_A011_HWp3_Service1FF
then stock factory wipe in stock recovery then rooted with SuperOneClick Installed 2ndinitDefy 1.4.2
then i got the error: E:Can't make /tmp/update_binary
fixed it with this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1540372
Then a CWM factory wipe
Then flashed CM10 and gapps
now it works with full sized data partition and everything

[Q] S3 Rooting Help

I am new to these forums so i do apologize for anything I might have done wrong in my post. So, I have rooted my S3 using Odin and installed Clockworkmod Recovery 5.5.0.4 I believe. From there i used a root from recovery package and it was a smooth and easy process and i obtained superuser. I then decided to install the most recent stable cyanogenmod for my device; aka CM10.0. In Clockworkmod, I made a Nandroid backup, wiped data/factory resetted, cleared cache partition, and cleared Delvik cache like it's supposed to be done. But when i went to flash the rom, it gave me a strange Error 7. I looked into this online to find that my Clockworkmod needs to be updated and that can be done by installing Rom Manager on the device. So i booted up my S3 to find that my data is gone(due to the data wipe), but so is Superuser. I need superuser to get the Rom Manager. I'm assuming that superuser disappeared from the wipe. But how do i get it back? Do i rerun the Root from Recovery in clockworkmod, or do I simply install it in the play store? I really don't want to mess up my brand new S3. All help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

yup.. your recovery.img is very outdated
normally reflash the latest recovery would be fine
but superuser also disappear? that sounds strange (and i've never used rom manager so not sure what to do with that ;p)
what i'd suggest you to do is odin back to stock, this time download the latest recovery(either cwm or twrp. they can be easily found on goo.im) and just start root again

Can you restore the nandroid you made and get back to the point where rooted stock, including superuser was working? If you can, then just download GooManager from the play store and run the "install open recovery script" option to obtain the newest TWRP. Then you can use TWRP, instead of CWM, to flash whatever rom you want.
