Does anyone know if it is possible to copy and the move the saved wi-fi details from the Desire to a SD card then after installing a new ROM import them back?
What i mean is, i have lots of wi-fi details of family, friends and work wireless networks stored on my Desire phone and don't want to have to set these all up again. In some cases I can't get the passwords again, is there a way to export these off and then import them back?
I've tried Google and come up short thus far and looked else where but no joy...
My phone is not rooted it's just an Orange handset which I unlocked and debranded via a gold card
thanks in advance for any help and advice given
You can find it here...
/data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
In the new GB Rom 3.14.405.1 this file is found in \Phone Memory\etc\wifi\wpa_supplicant.conf
NeoEpsilon and Rew64...
Firstly thanks for the help... but how do i get to this file?
I've looked in this location on the phone /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf and all I have is an empty folder?
So your saying you have no wpa_supplicant.conf file in the wifi folder? What ROM are you using?
This is correct Rew64, I have Astro installed browsed to the location and the folder is empty.
My phone is just an Orange handset which I unbranded and put Standard HTC 2.2 (Froyo) on it.
I don't know then. If you have different wifi spots saved to your phone I can't see why you don't have this file in there.

Hi guys and gals,
I've recently upgraded my XDA IIs to the latest iMate software. I've then re-installed tomTom 5 with the upgrade to version 5.1
Now my tomtom won't save any of my settings. So i can input my Home and favourties etc... shut down tomtom and then when i go back in, i have to accept the agreement again, and none of my settings are there.
Is anyone else having this problem? and more importantly - does anyone know what the fix is for this?
Thanks all
tcs44_uk - Are you installing from an SD Card? If you are check that the files are unlocked before you copy them onto the SD card or it will act as you have described.
I too had the same problem with a legit purchased copy from TomTom. Someone on another forum advised me to copy the files to the PC, unlock them, copy them back to the SD card the re-install - hey presto works a treat.
HTH
I have nearly the same problem. My settings stay, but favorite and base are gone after a few uses :
I record the base and a few favorites, I exit TT5 using the "quit" icon. When I restart it, the base & favorites are still there (so they are correctly recorded : the file is not locked, and the SD card not Read Only).
After a few runs (I have not been able to check how many, or what can cause that), they're all gone : no base and no favorite.
All I store in POI never disappear, so my work-around is to place all favorite and base in POI.
Tomtom support is ZERO. They have pre-formatted message they send not reading the whole problem, and it is impossible to reply, 'cause the case is closed after their crappy answer.
OhBuggerit2k2, how do I tell if the files are locked?
I have the same problem, TT5 will not remember any favourites when restarted.
I have the files on my computer, how do I check they are not locked?
Thanks Guys
Ginnser
Which files??
I also have this problem.....
does anyone know which file(s) it is that hold the info regarding:
Home location
Favourites
and all the other personal settings
would appreciate any help,
Thanks,
Alan
i had a similar issue & resolved it by changing the settings on the file with extension .cfg from read only. i had 2 copy the file 2 my desktop change the settings then saving back 2 xda2i.
i have a problem with tomtom where it throws me out...any1 know how 2 sort it?
Thanks guys - after copying all of the TomTom files back to PC, taking off the Read Only flag, and then copying the files back - all working fine now.
Cheers

sure, it's my pleasure to help others here.
I use wm6 with a 4GB MINI SDHC(Karmba 4.0). After i use bluetooth internet sharing with my laptop, i found that all 1.4GB data disapeared from my sd card. Instead of them, i saw 3 files which have strage name on them and cannot be opened. All these files are 0byte. Then i insert sd into my laptop, right click sd to check property, i knew all data still on sd card, because the property of sd card shows "1.4GB used". After that, i enable my laptop to see hiden files, not see anything from sd card again.
Finnally, i found a tool called "Final recovery". This tool bring the most of files back to me, not all of them.
I suppose, the internet sharing write all the internet temp files into my sd card, then all my data had been overwrited. So, even when i use recovery tool, cannot recover all of them.
Karmba 4.0 set internet cache and temp folder in the sd card by default(Karmba 4.1 maybe does the same thing). Thus, i think maybe this is where the problem comes from.
By the way, i really appreciate what Karmba did for all the user here. His rom is quite good, But i think 1.2 is the best one. The others really need debug.
Hope this information can help other people who have the same problem. Cheers.
It's nice for you to share about your experience regarding recovery.
However, I think it's worthy to point out that SD corruption could be caused by almost any program that access the card. It has been discussed many times in the forum.
It's actually a HTC bug, which goes unfixed. Artemis got a fix to its SD driver long time ago.... Anyway, prevention in my opinion is far better than recovery. Look for a program called "sdsentry" and it will notify you when the corruption occurs and allows you to reboot the machine to prevent the corrupted FAT image got written to the card itself. It will save your day. Try it.
When I save favorites in Copilot 8 I can see them as long as I don't close the application. When I restart it all the favorites (and also the recent targets) are gone again.
Did someone face this problem or could give me a hint how to solve this issue?
Thank you in advance.

I had this problem before, but I can't remember the exact file. Basically, there's a file that you need to enable read/write access by finding it in Windows Explorer and unchecking "read only" in the file's properties. That fixed it for me, but I can't remember what file it was.
Thank you for your reply. The folder supposed to be writeable (and acutally shown as writeable) is copilot/EU/europe/save as I found two files named favorite.lst and recents.lst in it.
These files are shown as writeable as well. Do I have to gain root to make the folder and/or the files writeable not only for the owner?
Called Copilot Support and got the answer that they are aware of this problem and there should be a newer version to hit the market within the next weeks to correct this.
Aditionally I was told that there has just been released a froyo compatible version, just to let you know.
Finally helped myself .
Within the copilot folder there is a file named user.cfg. The path to the save folder was not set.
So I closed two cases in one go: Moved the maps to the external sd card and set or changed the paths in the user config file.
Now everything is working as it should. Maybe this information can help other people to solve the problem more quickly then I did.
Can copilot be installed on an external sd card? (sdcard/sd)?
The program itself can't but as I said you can move the maps folder to the external sd card - you just have to physically move for example the EU (if you are in Europe like me) folder to the external sd card and then change the path in the user.cfg to this directory to the new path (there is more than one entry for this directory in the user.cfg).
Perfectly worked for me.
user.cfg
Hello Olympicchicken,
I think I have the same problem you had but when I came to verify first of all if I had the files favorite.lst and recents.lst, they were none.
I downloaded those two files from a Copilot Live package as saw on the internet but still nothing, I can save my favorites.
When opening the user.cfg, the path to save the favorites and recents are the right one:
[Data]
"VersionedGrid"=-2147483640

Do you have any ideal what could be causing this by any chances?
Thanks for you time!
Have a great week-end!
P.s.: I have Galaxy S with Android 2.1 and Copilot Live 8.2.0.218
As for me, I have the samsung galaxy S and I cant even save. I moved to external SD card and changed the user but it still dosnt work. I dont have a "favorite.lst" file, neither a "recent.lst" one. I reinstalled and I still dont get them.
Same here, I can't save my favorites after upgrading to 8.2.0.218. It seems that's a problem with canadian adress. Someone have found the newer version 8.2.0.368 ?
The Problem seems to be with Canadian Addresses, ( actually 1 did work for me ) but it was only for testing. US Addresses had no issue
Any fix?
This helped me sort but the save directory that resolved it was not the one in the copilot directory..
The offending line in the user config was
"LRSaveDir"="sdcard/copilot/<region>/<country>/save/
for me the line said "LRSaveDir"=2
I changed mine to reflect my phones directory structure..
"LRSaveDir"="sdcard/copilot/EU/UK/save/
**When I did that all resolved and even my previous saves came back.
So I am happy again.

I had the same problem. I had deleted some files on my SD Card and somehow something got corrupt(happened when switching between 3 different apps while driving).
I'm on the road at least 4 days a week and use co-pilot to route my gas buddy stops and save them as trips. All of the sudden it wouldn't save my recent data and all of my save files were not accessible even though the files were in the map save dir ("sdcard/copilot/NA/save/").
I decided to just wipe everything and re-install the app though.
Hi Mates,
I have owned my Desire for 2 weeks and it is the first Android device i have had. I have done a lot of searching the www and XDA for answers to the following questions but not come across anything yet. Please could some of you help me out with answers to the following questions:
1) APN & MMS settings - Is there no automatic method of having these settings detected from the SIM card and operator? I find it hard to believe that with Android we have to manually do the settings!
2) I have saved on my SD card Root the file PB99IMG.zip but to prevent it from being read everytime i try to go in to Bootloader mode, i changed the name to PPB99IMG.zip so now it is ignored by the Bootloader. My question is, if i wanted to restore this ROM file can it be done without renaming it to the standard protocol (PB99IMG.zip) can i use the Recovery menu to restore .zip? If so does it give the exact same result that it would if run from Bootloader?
3) I have Titanium Back up Pro version installed. it allows almost any of the installed applications to be moved to the SD card. Are there any that should NOT be moved to SD card, such as Titanium itself, RomManager, Call blockers or Profile applications etc etc?
4) I have formatted my 16GB SD in to one Fat32 primary partion of 14GB and created another Primary partion ext4 of 2GB. I'm using a standard official ROM 2.29.405.5 which has been Rooted using UnRevoke 3.22 which I think installed CWM Recovery. So my question is does the standard ROM make use of the Ext4 partion or only Custom ROMS and is this the best / correct Ext to have used?
5) Apart from the first Boot loop that i got after my very first NAND back up using CWM (just needed to restore the back up that it made to recover it) I have not had any issues. But it could not format and partion my SD I had to do that manually using GParted with puppy Lynix. Also i do not have S-Off either. Should unrevoke 3.22 give me S-Off or is that another process such as AlphRev? Is there a process that only give S-Off without changing the Recovery mode?
6) I can not seem to send e-mail from Hotmail using the built in Sense mail application. anyone have a solution for that and also how to get all the mails from various accounts delivered to a single Inbox? I have 1 x Hotmail and 2 x Gmail accounts and whilst they are all selectable from the account picker they are not combined in the Inbox. I'm currently using TouchDown 2.0 for a fully syncronised Hotmail account due to the built in mail client not being syncronised with the Web accounts. Anyone give any advise about a better set up using Sense functions?
I think thats about it for now. Thanx for anyone who can answer any of the above, I love this phone and it is gona lead to trouble with me and the wife!
Happy new year to you all!!

1. Use APN Backup and Restore App. Desire Stock Rom for the region does automatically have APNs. But I've not seen them autodetect on rooted Roms.
2. You cant use rooted recovery to flash it. File name has to be same. Why should you have to keep it on the card. Keep it on a CD/Hard drive. Copy it to goldcard only when needed. When you need it, use the card on a PC to rename it. Also you can run the RUU as exe file from Windows
3. Widgets shouldnt be moved. System apps shouldnt.
4. Froyo Rom (Stock rooted) cant use it. Use a custom A2SD+ rom /Data2ext rom. Ext2 has maximum compatibilty. ext4 is the best but with limited support. ext3 is slower than both.
5. Alpharev gives S-Off. Unrevoked for desire doesnt. Rooting automatically puts the recovery on it. You need it for most basic purposes, including the process of S-Off
6. No idea.
Thanx for your fast reply DroidZone!!
I'm assuming that "APN Backup and Restore App" only works if you already have the APN and MMS settings installed?
Regarding the APN and MMS settings....so do you know which file the Regional settings are saved in? And would it be possibly in theory to collect this info from all the Regional ROMS and compile a single file that would allow Auto set up for any Region or country being visited?
My old Windows phone used to be the same with manual settings being required but in later WM6.5.5 relaeses this was all done automatically no mater i was in Nigeria, UK or China. It would be nice to have that flexability for Android.

True you already need the settings. But some custom Roms (I forgot which one. Check Leedroid's page on XDA) have a huge list of APNs which come built in. But the better solution is to ask your service provider for the APN settings intially and then backup with this app. It's not one file, so it cant just be copied and imported. This app is the best solution. As you learn about roms, you will learn how to incorporate this app into your rom so that it will autosinstall.
By the way how to send mms? I did not see mms option when creating messages from the sms app.

Hi all,
I have recently flashed my phone and something seems to have went wrong. Checking through the sd card with astro I noticed that I have somehow managed to duplicate the filesystem. It reads sdcard/0 - android and whatnot, sdcard/0/0 - exactly the same thing. I'm pretty sure I have an idea which is the 'older' version, but my question is whether it is safe to outright delete it or is there a better option?
Thanks.
After some further reading I have found that this is to do with the way Jelly Bean handles user accounts. I currently have the following:
storage/emulated/0
storage/emulated/legacy
and
sdcard0/
sdcard0/0
I would appreciate any advice on what to do (remove, leave alone, etc). Thanks again.
I worked this out, but here is my solution if anybody else has the same issue:
The storage/emulated/0 folder is a symbolic link to /sdcard0/ on the sd card, you can confirm by copying a file into a folder and checking. Just delete the other profiles that are no longer necessary.
