Is there a way to backtrack the firmware to 2.2 from 2.3?
Absolutely not. And please search next time, this has been asked at least 30 times in the past month.

true that.. and besides to be honest you dont even need to search for this answer, just scroll down the list in Q&A, General, and Development sections and you'll see this same question asked hundreds of times, just worded differently.
Atleast this is the first time I've heard someone use the word backtrack lol

Yes there is...just take your phone to Sprint, tell them that you had root but ran the OTA and now you don't have root and you want 2.2 back. They should take care of you.

I talked to Sprint and HTC both a while ago and they claim to have no way to downgrade your phone from 4.24. (Certainly HTC does, but they're at least not willing to). Did you do this, or know of someone who did? Or were you being sarcastic?
Yes you can go back!!!

Keep an eye on this thread here.

I originally thought Unrevoked Forever had solved this problem, but you still need a custom recovery. So you're still waiting for an exploit, sorry.
Funny thing another guy just post the same question in the general thread. New guys need to search more....
no way jose

ok I'm sorry guys. I will work on doing that before posting. Thanks
I was thinking about installing this mod. I saw it running very smoothly on an HD2 dual-boot a friend of mine has.
Is there anyone running the latest version of this image? If so are there any hardware issues? Does the 4G still work? Does it make coffee now?
Thanks,
Nick
I don't think you'll have much luck here. I don't think anyone around here is running cm on their EVO's. Is he even working on a version for the EVO?

It's okay, just do the 2.2 OTA and then root from there. I think it's pretty painless, I know there's a thread about it somewhere . . . can't find it right now.

Thanks Laydros,
My friend just told me that his HD2 just went to sleep and he had to reboot so it is surely not stable yet on the HD2. I would still be willing to try it on my EVO if anyone else has tried it first.
The UI looks pretty nice with a draggable menu at the bottom for multiple home row buttons.

i think what you have to do is flash a 2.2 rom, and while its installing, yank the battery. this will take you to the froyo debug screen and ask if you want to flash a cyanogen mod.
edit: ok that was a joke, I have to say that because I know there are people that will try it! sorry...

So explain to me how my question was stupid? I got a response from you apparently. Do you make a habit of flexing your intelligence on "stupid" postings?
This could very well make you a stupid person.
Read! Have you even looked at any posts at all here? Or did you just post your question and only focus on it? Seriously man, you are getting bashed here sooooo bad. Take ten seconds and look at other posts, either here in q and a or in the development section. Just trying to save you some pain.

Thanks, I spent five minutes searching. What did you find before you advised me to "READ!" and search?
Don't advise me to search unless you know for sure that I missed something. Your guessing there is a better thread and calling me stupid for not finding it.
Again, has anyone successfully gotten this mod on their EVO? If there is another thread talking about Cyanogen Mod 6 on EVO then direct me.
Dude, there's a thread in development dedicated to the RC with thousands of replies. I think we can all safely say that at least one other person has tried it. The water is safe. Hop in, but don't forget your life jacket. I'm sure you'll need it.
And before you complain that we're not helpful... no, the 4G doesn't work. Your mms may not work either.

HTC EVO.
Where is a rom for the Evo that is the same as sprint's? I want to do the free tethering/roam off of Verizon and I dont think you can do that with factory roam.
I did a search and there are a lot of 2.2/3.29.651.5 custom roms but they don't have most of the Factory stuff.......
This is as close as it gets:

All that does is get you S-OFF. Doesn't give you root. You still have to flash a ROM to get root.

But I read somewhere that root was possible on 2.3 stock!!!
So how far do you guys think we are away from stock GB root without the clip? I just got mine, and have a chance to get it refunded if I want to. It took so long to get here, I feel that S-OFF will be accomplished without it any day now. Opinions?

Just got done trying that, it's a no go.
I'm debating what to do as well. I just got the phone yesterday, and I don't know if I should get the xtc clip or what. I upgraded early so Verizon wouldn't let me get a 4G phone for some reason.
Is there anyone out there that can help me take my inc2 and downgrade to the stock software so I can root it?

No, not yet. Once you get the Ginerbread update you are out of luck and must wait for a new rootable exploit to be discovered. Both the AlphaRev team and the Unrevoked team as well as others are actively working on trying to find new exploits.
The other choice is to find someone that has a XTC Clip diagnostic device that can be used to gain S-OFF on your device which will then allow you to install a custom recovery and custom rooted ROMs.
There is a number of threads on this. There is no way, as of now, to downgrade. The only way to get root, if you have 2.3.3, is to buy an XTC clip.
Edit..... I type too slow

If you visit the Revolutionary site, there are a number of links to some of the developers that are working on GB root exploits. With a little investigation into Twitter land, you will see that they are working on several HTC devices. One of the exploits will work on the Desire S, so it is only a matter of time before they figure out how to make it work on the Incredible S/Dinc2, too.

Look in the inc 2 forums at rootzwiki. there's a sticky on downgrading (how to)

That is only for those with S-OFF via AlpharevX to downgrade back to Froyo and the stock boot loader. You need to be S-OFF and, correct me if i'm wrong, will still be S-OFF after the downgrade. It will not work if you're S-ON with GB, unfortunately.
