This is my first post on this forum so if I step on any ones I apologize greatly and I also apoogize if I use terms correctly feel free to correct me I am still learning a great deal.I recently bought the Optimus V from Virgin Mobile, I really liked the price and all its features, but I slowly began to grow tired of its simplicity and also of the general look of Froyo. I tried different Launcher replacement and themes but they seemed to after a day or so hinder the OV's performance.
I started exploring rooting and downloaded Z4root. I tried repeated times and it just force closed. So I read on XDA of the differrent ways to root via USB connection though your CMD and Super One Click but I began to get confused and very frusterated. So I ended up trying Gingerbreak on a last minute attempt. It worked on the first try with in 5 minutes! Then I decided to flash a ROM on it. I tried ROM Manager for about 3 hours unsuccessfully tho only ROM I actually flashed was the Stock Optimized ROM. So If your thinking about flashing with ROM Manager dont!! Flash the Thunderc Recovery its quick and painless just make sure when you use the following code make sure the flash image and the recovery name in your code corresponds with the file you placed in your SD card root! Mine did not and it took me awhle to figure out why it kept failing.
In an ADB shell:
> mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock5 /system
> cat /sdcard/flash_image > /system/bin/flash_image
> chmod 755 /system/bin/flash_image
> mv /system/etc/install-recovery.sh /system/etc/install-recovery.sh.bak
> mount -o remount,ro -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock5 /system
> flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
> reboot recovery
Place the rom you wish to flash in its zipped folder on your SD card. I placed alll my ROMs in one folder for orginization I called it AAROM so it is the first folder in the flash from zip menu. Before ou proceed be sure and backup your current System. Now you navigate to the flash from zip menu in your recovery and selet the ROM you want. It will begin to install when its done reboot and your new ROM will boot up. To access recovery again simply press power volume and home key simultaneously.
I have been running Reborn ROM for 3 weeks and love it I have ajusted it to fit me andmy needs. My Optimus is overclocked to 825 MHz and runs everything I need it to. I am capable of playing games such as NOVA and NFS.
Does anyone know how or if there is a ROM or someway to allow the Optimus V to use Flash? If its overclocked high enough it could techincally handle it right?
**UPDATE**
I am now running CM7 with REMIX RED add-ons. Best Rom I have ever used CPU is overlocked to 825! EVERYTHING is perfect I love it!
Thanks for sharing.

while there are some sites and files it won't work on, the chinese-maipad-modded flash 10 runs just fine on my V as long as I have a good 3g connection or run files from the SD card.
not everything is compatible, but sites like jibjab.com work just fine for me.

Here it is guys, Stock CWM Recovery for the ACER A100.
Before anything make sure you have the latest ICS leak C/O Vache, Root, and Unlocked Bootloader.
Official ICS Leak c/o Vache:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1510706
Root Instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1531646
Unlock your bootloader for fastboot, follow here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1557445
once you have done all of the above, you should be ready to flash this recovery. Make sure you have ADB up and working properly. And place the recovery.img in your working folder (see below)
1- Open a command prompt in your working folder (usually in your platform tools, mine is C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools) make sure you are administrator.
2- Connect Tablet to pc and get excited.
3- Type: adb devices (verify your Tab is connected and listed)
4- Type: adb reboot bootloader
5- Once bootloader is in fastboot type: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
You will see writing recovery, flashing recovery, etc.
6- Once flashed Type: fastboot reboot
7- Profit
This recovery has been tested by myself, and is the first in a series of goodies coming please be patient, dont ask for ETA's as the DEV's are EXTREMELY hard at work and don't even have this device themselves. Big THANKS to all of them!
Now keep in mind most mistakes are made in the location of where you opened the command prompt, just be sure the recovery.img is in the folder you are working in with the command prompt. If it isn't, well, it wont flash anything.

That must be why. The previous recovery made backup sizes of approx. 1.1Gb; This makes backups of well over 2Gb (Bar didn't even reach half way as yet when it hit the 2Gb mark ).
Working great.
Just in case anyone is wondering, flashed fine running flex-100-reaper and crossix SD swap mod.

yes i forgot to add. if you are on flexreaper it will work..as you should already have root and unlocked bootloader to get there :-D thanks for verifying though!

I was going to say my backup was the right size on Flexrom A100, but it would make sense because I use the Micro SD card swap mod. So my /data/media is empty while in CWM.

Hey everyone, just got a Inc2 as a replacement for a Droid X2, could someone point me in the right direction to get me started? I would like to eventually be on an ICS build if there is a semi-stable version out there. Thanks alot!
Welcome to the Dinc 2! Well first of all if you want to root and all that jazz you should follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1726134 if you're on the new 6.01.605.05 software. As far as ICS roms go, I would personally recommend Nitsuj's UKB V rom, it's ICS with sense 4a and it is probably one o the most popular if not the most popular rom for the Dinc 2 right now. If you want AOSP ICS I recommend Aeroevan's CM9, it is fairly stable. Another recent rom that I recommend is Paranoid Android, the tweaks for it are amazing and almost everything is working fairly well! I hope you enjoy your Dinc 2!

After you gain S-OFF you can flash CWM and then flash the superuser zip to gain root. It should all be together in the s-off thread. You can also use 4 ext recovery, it's a touch recovery and it's been working great for me. Oh, and before you install a rom make sure YOU MAKE A NANDROID. If something goes wrong you can go back to a working phone. Feel free to PM me if you have anymore questions or just post them here. Good luck and enjoy!

Ok already running into a problem
f. Place the misc_version and tacoroot.sh into your /Android/android-sdk/Platform-tools folder. (platform-tools may also just be named platform, depends on which sdk version you have)
g. Place the RUU_Vivo.....zip folder in the /Android/android-sdk/tools folder. (Leave it as a .zip file, do NOT extract the contents to the tools folder)
For the life of me, i cant find this folder...
I did not have to use the taco part. But youtube has good videos on the revolutionary part that helped me allot with the adb commands.

Actually, you are supposed to create that folder as a space to work from on your pc. That's where you unzip all the scripts to that you call from cmd.
Well, that's what it looks like to me, anyway. I didn't have to downgrade from the most recent version.

Just tried, looks very good on P930, however, it seems to NOT WORK properly.
I flashed this CWM using the command posted by Swetnes (post #6).
After which, I then tried flashing the latest CM10 nightly using it, flashed failed with build.prop error. (MD5 of my nightly download checks out.)
Tried the 25th nightly, same error.
Rebooted, re-flashed CWM 5.8.2.0 using ROM Manager, then attempted to flash the lastest nightly again (same file on the SD, I did not re-copy or re-download), succeeded the first try.
Anyone on 6.0.1.2 encountered the same errors as above?

So I just found out you could do this today, but if you go to builder.clockworkmod.com, you can tell it to build a CWM image for a bunch of devices. I went ahead and had it build 6.0.1.3 for our P930. It could be fun playing with the update.zip exporting feature in this CWM. At the same time, the barrier for entry just got lowered substantially for rom "developers".
Note: I have not tested any of the functions of this CWM, so don't blame me if it jacks your phone up. I didn't even build it myself, Jenkins did
Edit, I tried to do the same for the SU640, but no joy there. The build failed.
Edit #2, Okay, so this autobuilt CWM won't flash roms for me. It is hamstrung on the asserts for ro.product.device and ro.build.product. Ah well, it was worth a shot
Edit #3, You really don't wanna use this, it will screw things up for you.
thank u~

Vision_DZ_1.34.405.5_PC10IMG.zip (its that for me or not and i must put in scard like this PC10IMG.zip or like this PC10IMG )
but i dont know if was that the problem
Any solution
Thank you
Make sure sd is formatted to fat32, file is on root of sdcard (not in any folder) if windows is set. To hide file extention just name it PC10IMG and windows will add the .zip
Personally I say the fastboot method is better in a lot of ways but may be tricky if your unfimiliar

Sorry didn't get you question, well I'm glad you finished the guide, easy huh?
Rizzoizzo made a great guide on flashing the first rom for beginers, check out the general section and it will be within the first few pages. Pretty much just pick a rom, put on sd and boot to recovery, there you will flash it, then reboot
Now that you are rooted there are many new tweaks and mods to do but first grab a custom rom, you will find those in the developers section

Comparate to ROOT i think its more easy, then i go to see the rooms in here.

But i dont know what its best for me (Noob)
can you tell me one great that everythings works (camera, bluethoot, etc)
PS: the room comes with language Portuguese iam from Portugal
Thanks again
Yep that's the right thread, be sure to thank rizzoizzo
There are many many roms that everything works so its hard to pick one for you, it all depends on you. If you like sense they tend to be slower than cm and other aosp roms but may be prettier
If you need 100% no issues the closest would be something with a gingerbread base but newer roms work damn near perfect too. Try some out and see where it gets you
Happy flashing

I installed this Room:
CyanogenMod 7 with success
If i want to change to another the process its the same
Yep, do a complete wipe then flash anew. Also I suggest doing a nandroid backup before each wipe/flash so you can easily go back to if you so desire

Rooting your phone...from your phone (what?!)
DISCLAIMER: I do not expect anything to go wrong as I have personally tested this. However, YOU are choosing to make these modifications to your phone so I DO NOT take responsibility for any damage that may come as a result of using this. If you come back and point the finger at me, I will laugh at you.
If your phone is not an SGS3, this MAY still work for you. I take absolutely NO responsibility either way.
Prerequisites
The following files are attached to this post for convenience. Download and install the apps, download and extract the zip file somewhere convenient.
Superuser by Koush(MUST be this one. You can change it later if you so desire.)
Terminal Emulator by Jack Palevich ( MUST be this one)
Zip file, extracted somewhere convenient

THE GOODS
These generic names will be used:
/path/to/motochopperDir - This is the full path to the extracted motochopper-mobile DIRECTORY or FOLDER. Example: /sdcard/motochopper-mobile (will vary depending on where you extracted the files).
NOTE: After running the script, Motochopper may or may not print "Failed", but the exploit DOES indeed work regardless of this. Make sure you reboot for changes to take effect.

Download the attached zip file AND both apps.
Install Terminal Emulator and Superuser (use a file manager, navigate to the downloaded .apk files and click on each file to install them).
Open up Terminal Emulator and type the following commands. Press the ENTER key after each command.
Code:
cd /path/to/motochopperDir
cat setup.sh > /data/data/jackpal.androidterm/setup.sh
cd /data/data/jackpal.androidterm
chmod 755 setup.sh
./setup.sh /path/to/motochopperDir
From there, my setup.sh script will handle the rest of the process. If you are still unsure, see my sample run below.
Sample run (files were extracted to /sdcard/moto)
Code:
cd /sdcard/moto
cat setup.sh > /data/data/jackpal.androidterm/setup.sh
cd /data/data/jackpal.androidterm
chmod 755 setup.sh
./setup.sh /sdcard/moto
Credits

Jack Palevich and Koush for their apps, especially Jack Palevich. This would not be possible without the shared permissions on his app's data directory.

Just in case its true...
I heard that they've patched against the Motochopper exploit either in later 4.1.2 builds like MD5 or starting in 4.2.2.
I haven't been able to confirm either way but in case it does affect MD5, I thought I'd go ahead an mention it.
If so, downgrading would solve it of course.
I kinda doubt itll be necessary since we were able to use this to root the T999L. (Its a 4.1.2 build, but is about 4 months older than MD5 from what I can tell)
Anyway, thanks man! Always cool to see new ways of doing something!
Can anyone say if any of that is true for certain?

OTAs always have a potential to break exploits like motochopper. Even more so since this device was not "officially" supported to begin and it was only discovered as a side-effect.
If you are on an MD5 based rom, you can easily test it. Go into recovery, make a backup real quick. Then, using a root browser, delete the /system/xbin/su file. Follow the instructions in the OP as if you were rooting for the first time. You can always restore your backup/reflash your rom if it does not work.

Also, please DO NOT quote the OP.

Most devices I've seen, with or without a removable battery can be reboited by holding oiwer for a few seconds. Once it goes off, release power, then immediately hold whatever combo is required to boot to recovery/download or whatever.
Cnexus, I'm sorry I didn't do this like I said last night. Bout to head home from taking my daughter to her moms, so I can't see any reason I can't try tonight. Will let you know!

No problem man, take your time. Strange how the only other confirmation I've gotten has been for the Sprint S3
The Thanks button is just to avoid "THANKS" posts in threads. Nothing more. Don't defeat the purpose of why it was introduced.
Yeah, I'd give it a lityle more time though. Things like this eill be slowing down I think since most who are already here are already rooted, and the flow of new s3 users is slowing due to new devices coming out.
I actually think if we can get someone with the T999L to try it it'll get more use. We already know the exploit you employ works for it and all new s3's will be the T999L. So most who may need it will likely have that model.

After rebooting, go into a terminal and type "su"
If the prompt changes from "$" to "#", then you are golden (and rooted).

No I get su not found thanks anyways, really need a way to root with usb as my rooting the first time around messed up all connections to pc and then I tried flashing factory image going to restore function but that didn't work either.
So now I'm stuck with a tablet with no root or connection to pc via usb. I have to use micro sd cars to transfer.
