[Q] Apps in Roms - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a question about apps in the rom includes.
What mean you are better?
- only apps from needs by the system (hardware, gui, ...) and the android market included and all other from market??
or
- all normal use apps in the rom and optional used apps over market?
I think all what i do in the rom is later double on the phon after an update

This looks really good however a few suggestions.
- Don't remove Swype, just make it not default. (It doesn't consume resources unless set as default IME.)
- Don't pre-install Twitter, not all users use Twitter and it is very easy to install from Market. ( It's services exist even if you don't sign in. )
In case you are worried about my opinion affecting my suggestions, I prefer Swype and I also use Twitter app. But I do like the multi-touch keyboard as well. ( Having options is good. )
EDIT: I'm trying to download it but megaupload says the file is unavailable?

I'm sure users can install terminal emulator from market?
When you say you removed Samsung bloat, does the Samsung calendar / contacts apps still exist?
It would be really good if you could port over as many fixes / enhancements as you can from cyanogenmod...
See: CHANGELOG
Specifically...
Common: Phone mod V.30.1 - cytown
Common: WyContacts 1.2 - Wysie
Common: Mobile data toggle for power widget - Drakaz
Common: Browser fullscreen mode and other enhancements - Wysie
Common: Zipalign on install (if needed) + system dex cache to /cache - Cyanogen/Chris Soyars
I know that's asking a bit much, but I'm really talking about some of those extra fixes such as the phone mod and contacts mod.
I really like that you have sticked to the default theme, I hate how some roms theme the phone. I think theme and roms should be applied separately... :\
nice... but it reminds me too much of Windows Mobile themes

Calendar, calculator, SMS/MMS application, contacts, ThinkFree Office and MyFiles are in the rom, stock Samsung firmware is really horrible.. you know, has many applications dependencies! Es. contacts with SMS application etc. (acore problem)
Anyway, I see if samsung framework work great with CMod features
Also.. I like google vanilla theme, I really miss from my Nexus One
P.S. ROM v1.0.1 is up, have fun!
Ciao
Thanks!

LOL, you are right!
hi Hackdown,
your rom does include the ADW Launcher, does this mean it has a system version included? since i remember from the i7500 that adw market version caused laggs with phone and contacts app...
Hi bro! Yes, Touchwiz Launcher is installed (removing cause acore issue) but at first boot you need to choose the launcher and if u want ADW Launcher.. select it!
Have fun
You need to remove manually all stock removed applications from
Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications

What ones?
I haven't installed the rom yet but I'd like to know.
All displayed in the menu at first boot
Downloading now, will report of any (if any) issues.
Thanks a lot for sharing your work!
Well I'd like to try it but I like swype and touchwiz I don't know why so many people don't like it....
This is a very fast rom,I'd like it

that was not the question, there are two versions of adw launcher, one is the market version, normally it installs to where your market apps go, but you could also use this one to install with the system apps, but this makes no changes to the lagg issue. however there are also "system versions" of daw launcher available (normally one mdpi and one hdpi) that are slightly different and do not cause these laggs. i dont eaven know if this applyes to the sgs, but it definitely did to the galaxy i7500.
hi Hackdown,
good work! I have four questions:
1) changelog of v. 1.0.1
2) market is full?
3) why you tell that is not usefull any lag fix, for example one click lag fix
4) where your rom is different from SamSet 1.9b

[Q] Google Addons

What exactly is Google Addons?
The market
Sent from my Vision using XDA Premium App
The Google Apps? You need them so you're apps function correctly, gmail, market, ect. Needed to be flashed up your first installation of a gingerbread rom. If you mean when you first boot up your phone, just extra apps you can install if you want.
The Google Apps addon is a flashable ZIP which contains the files for the Android Market, Google Talk, Google Sync, and other back-end files and libraries needed for Google applications from the Market, like those that allow for C2DM (push notifications).
They aren't included in CyanogenMod and other similar ROMs due to Google throwing a hissy fit back in CM4, saying that CM could be used to port those applications to devices which don't come with Google Apps, despite the fact that there are no such devices currently in development, let alone back then.
Ok so if I'm installing any AOSP ROM's then I need to install the Google Addon's as well. But this is not needed with any Sense ROM's. Thanks all!

Now you've got it.

Why do some apps dont appear in the market?

Depending on what rom I have currently installed some apps are unavailable. For example they show in the market on Cyoagen mod but wont show on my current rom. Both roms are froyo 2.2.1 and I have qvga fixed market on both. Would changing build.prop info help?

[Collaboration] List of root-related apps

Hey guys, there are several application in Play Market that are either related to a specific kernel (a manager app) or a ROM (like Darky's ROM app from the days of Gingerbread and Froyo), or useful apps like ROM Toolbox
But how many apps of that kind are there and how are they named?
What I suggest is to create a full list of such applications, divided into few categories like "Kernel specific", "ROM specific", "ROM customization", and so on.
Only ones I know are:
ROM Manager (and the PRO version)
Goo.im manager
ROM Toolbox (and the PRO version)
TricksterMod (for kernel management)
Direct Play Market links for the apps are also welcome
I think this is a great idea. But you might want to include the creator/developer for each as well.

Nope, because "root app" is meaningless except being a prerequisite.
Although above post has some point I'll chime in with some very useful apps:
-Greenify It lets you hibernate apps when screen is off to save battery.
- Systemcleanup. Helps a lot to update system apps and eliminate them also. It's also good to clean cache.
- Orange backup. Makes nandroid backups without having to reboot to recovery and also has the ability to upload them to google drive etc... It has support for both TWRP and CWM.

[Q] Eating RAM to a great extent :(

Hello,
I'm using baliboxer's GENNXT ROM (Build num: XUBMHD, Baseband Version XUBMF2) in my GT-I9082
I've just installed very minimum user apps( 651 MB out of 4GB intrenal memory, this includes GAPPS too) and i've not installed a single game.
I'm using ROM ToolBox Pro to define the apps that has to be run on the background( which,i believe,is similar to using 'Greenify')
But my device eats up too much RAM to the extent that i do not even find 100MB of free RAM space out of 804MB.
This makes my device too laggy and i cant navigate gallery and camera app (though no FC in any of the app).
I'm a complete noob, so plz guide me to make my device better.
Waiting for ur suggestions guys!!!

Firstly, you can and you should "Turn off"/disable, if not uninstall, any app like SVoice, Samsung Apps, Google+ etc that you don't use (please dont remove the apps without icons/names like com.Something, that you don't know what it does), even if they came preinstalled with the ROM. You can do this by going to Settings>Applications>swipe to the right till you are on All Applications, just scroll through here and disable them if you dont need them. This will let them be in your system without letting them start up at all by any app until you enable it.
Secondly, ROM ToolBox is NOT similar to Greenify. ROM Toolbox is a heavy app with a LOT of triggers that can make itself run all the time in your phone. ROM Toolbox does offer you to select permission alteration for each app, but it doesn't actually stop them after they are executed already, which is why I avoid installing ROM Toolbox now, but that's just my opinion.
This is something Greenify beautifuly covers. You can select all apps, (excluding the one you use to keep you updated like Phone, messaging, whatsapp, googleplay etc). They will have smooth unaltered functionality when you open them but they will not run in the background (which is the main reason for your RAM usage). And best of all, Greenify only uses 3.7~4Mb RAM to keep your apps in check with no triggers except to start a process on boot.
You can use several memory cleaners but honestly you won't need them if you do both the above things right.
if you still need more, you can check out my thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2476926
