Is it a OTA update?
If PC based, i guess you will loose the root and I don't think there is any known method currently available to direct root the 2.3.3 unless the bootloader is unlocked.

I'm not 100% sure that the root will be preserved if updated via OTA. It happened in the past, so I guess might happen again, but who knows whether SE have fixed that bug!
Between, how are you rooted in Singapore firmware .145? That update was also an PC Companion update! Myself flashed to Global Generic to keep the root, but now I lost root and waiting for someone to discover if anything is there.

Are you sure that you are still on Singapore generic firmware? Because that last update wasn't available in OTA. I'm 100% sure since I tried, tried and finally give up and went to Global Generic to preserve the root, but now I lost it as there isn't any known method other than unlocking the bootloader.

So far released updates do not have OTA. Hence I doubt there will be an OTA update (cross-finger). May be SE wants us to loose the root

Honestly I don't think there will be an OTA update this time around. Secondly, even if there is one, I highly doubt that SE would have left alone the root like the last time.
It's all left to our XDA developers to provide a direct root method for locked bootloader phones. And finally, how confident are you that 2.3.4 will provide you root keeping in mind that the patch Google did for 2.3.4 caused the Gingerbreak to break!!!

If you can live without the goodies+bug fixes introduced in v4.0.x.x, then you can stay in .145 with root.
I have to admit, the one thing I hate with this update is the battery. It's terrible . I usually get about 15+ hours and this update has reduced it to 10+ hours with same usage!

Enjoy your rooted Arc, while I'm thinking about unlocking my bootloader
Imo you can't do ota to 2.3.4 when it's out, because why would they add the removed things again to do ota?
Bootloader unlocking will be the way to go
I think I'm gonna do it later this week.

NO. As stated on numerous threads.
You'll have to wait for the OTA update which is rolling out. thanhss in another thread said that he did receive the update for his Neo and he retained root.

And as said in the other thread, that is for the Neo, Arc users are told to update using PC Companion, which means you lose root.
Yup, I did mention that it was for the Neo but it does support the fact that in the near future, the arc too would get the OTA update. So let's keep our fingers crossed. LOL!
Its seems same question is repeating itself in new threads all day long.
Of course, everyone is eager to get the latest firmware. But why, oh why, can't they use the Search??

Makes you wonder why Arc users are asked to use PCC then.
LOL! We be scapegoats for them? Just kidding but it's normal that the PCC version comes out before the OTA.
Perhaps it's just the whim and fancy of the all-knowing guys over at SE
Thank you guys
but i wthink arc will never get the OTA update, cuz neo was even more developed before this final version, that is ow se is

As of yet, there's no OTA update roll out for the latest .368 firmware for the arc. Some regions have the OTA update for the neo.
We ALL will just have to wait a bit longer for SE to do the honours. Patience mate!

If you have an unlocked bootloader (as adviced in your first post), then you must look in the development section, they have the stuff you need.
If you have locked bootloader like so many of us, you just have to try and keep hitting the "update button" in the settings menu and hope for the best.

You're just going to have to wait to see if someone can figure out a way to obtain root on it While you wait, you may want to go read all the things you were supposed to read before you rooted (e.g. warnings in big letters about not taking updates). If you're going to root and play around with the sensitive bits of your phone, its pretty important to know exactly what you're doing. Everything you need to know is here, you just need to read it.
My last two phones have been Motorola and im new to Samsungs.. We used an app called Voodoo OTA Root keeper when there was a new OTA out. MOST of the time it would protect root on an OTA, but, like everything else, it wasnt 100% guarantee. Does anyone know if this app works with Samsung and the GS3?

I was rooted before the update but was tired of the dang nag screen...so after reading from others that rooting still works, I accepted the update and re-rooted + flashed update to radio. Everything has been fine.
I think the update took away part of the search functionality that Apple has been squawking about, so I downloaded that file to avoid the issue.
BTW I also had trouble at one point getting WiFi Tether to work, even using recommended profile = Samsung Galaxy Nexus (CDMA/LTE). I deleted, then re-installed and it seems to be working fine.
Now I do have a question about OTA RootKeeper by Project Voodoo. According to the app page on Google Play -
Typical system where the protection won't work:
- HTC Desire
- Samsung Galaxy Spica
- Samsung Galaxy S / SII
but when you look at the app itself, it says that

Actually, i used OTA rootkeeper on my ATT GS3 to protect my root from the dumb search OTA update and it kept mg root alive. Im using stock samsung rom. So for me at least, OTA rootkeeper worked perfect. Just remember to go in the program (i refuse to call them apps), and back up your root before you apply the OTA.

To the OP, I am not sure if you are still having issues getting rooted, but I used the method described Here.
like another user posted, I was rooted and was tired of the nagging about updates, so I took the update and forgot to download Voodoo OTA rootkeeper. I used the above method and was able to reroot without a problem. I then used OTA Rootkeeper to maintain root. Havent had an issue since.
Hope this helps

I rooted using this method while still on 4.1.2 and it worked flawlessly.
I then paid for and installed SuperSU Pro and activated "Survival Mode"
Lastly, after the OTA update was COMPLETELY finished, I followed this simple procedure to get root back again.
SuperSU disables Knox for you on 4.3 which is also nice. I should have qualified here that I am COMPLETELY stock other than root. I have not "frozen" any apps., deleted any Samsung provided files, etc. and I have stock bootloader and stock recovery. This will likely NOT work if you have done any of those things.
Is there a flashable version of this? If not, can somebody make one? Thanks.
I'm running a custom rom and rollouts/updates from vendors freak me out because I don't trust not one of them. Knowing AT&T they have thrown in some bit of encryption that locks the bootloader. I understand this might not be the case this time but I do know none of them can be trusted.
Now if you excuse me, I'm 1/2 done with 1984 the book and my tin foil hat is making me itch.

I have a few questions for you and/or those more in the know:
If I were to do this same thing, would I be able to flash a custom recovery (like TWRP) and/or flash custom ROM's/Kernels like I can already do now? One of my main concerns is that the stock kernel doesn't support Boeffla Sound, and that really makes for better audio on this device...might as well take full advantage of that Wolfson DAC...
I have to admit, it would be nice to be able to use pure AT&T stock, but rooted, as a base...this is why I loved the old CleanROM AT&T SE so much...
TIA for any guidance you can give on this.
Side note: after ODIN'ing back to 4.1.2 MA4, it says I have a 741MB update I can take....I'm sure that's this 4.3 update...Culpeper, VA here.

I did the same as marchusdavis but it resulted in a total disaster. After I downloaded the OTA update from AT&T I restarted my phone and it installed through CWM-Touch. At the end it asked if I wanted to ensure root was maintained and of course I said "yes" there (as well as through my SuperSU Pro Survival Mode). When it booted, my WiFi no longer works AND I lost root.
If anyway has any advice on how to get to a stock 4.3 from here please let me know!
Ugh, having trouble updating atm.
Goes up to 30%, then my phone reboots and says
"The update was interrupted" or something like that
On stock 4.1.2 rooted with stock recovery if anyone can help.

I don't believe so, as I am completely stock, bootloader and all. If you want to install other ROMs, you'd need to use a different method I believe. Likely downloading this update either via Kies or something else, and use ODIN to do everything. If you search around a bit on XDA, you'll probably find someone who has done it successfully and posted how. While I like custom ROMs, I have not had a need to use one yet on this device. However, if Samsung doesn't eventually give us Air Command, that might be enough to make me try it!
Is it possible to get the official update from the leak or do I have to downgrade to 4.1.2? I tried updating from the leak but it said it's the latest version.

You can successfully roll back to 4.4.4 via 5.0.2.
5.1.1 BLOCKS the ability to DOWNGRADE.

im so excited for this root exploit though its been too long.
Do you have to do anything to be able to rollback before you update?

Hey guys,
I know alot of people are receiveing the update to 5.0.1 today, i wanted to confirm that i updated to 5.0.1 and i was successfully able to roll back to 4.4.4 VIA Odin. The Integer overflow our devs are working on to root our device is patched in 5.0.1 but we can successfully roll back to 4.4.4!!
This is good as far as rooting goes. we can successfully roll back to 4.4.4 when our Devs release a root exploit.

Hopefully we can get an AT&T Note 4 lollipop stock odin.tar to flash back to that too if necessary.
I'd love to see a L odin.tar for this. My phone fails update everytime so I'm either going to need to odin it or go to the Samsung experience shop.
So what happens when everybody updates to lollipop if that updates the bootloader even if you flashback to 4.4.4 if they come out with root for the 4.4.4 bootloader won't that mess up the newer bootloader for lolly pop?

Your phone blows up and life will cease to exists as we know it.
But seriously know one knows, you know the risks when updating. If you're waiting for root and its that important to you then wait.
Quit trashing other threads with this question. Asking the same thing 5 times in 5 different threads is ridiculous.

How is my question talking trash? I was just curious ive ran into this problem b4 so and im dealing without root Ive learned to work around it like everyone else and the reason i did that was cuz sometimes ppl don't see it and the same ppl don't look at it and just wanted to get word out in case it does mess up root if you update then try to roll back and cant root becuz you have a new bootloader

He never accused you of talking trash. He said you are trashing all these threads by copy/pasting the same post into like 5 or 6 different threads. In other words, you're making messes and getting annoying. Ask the question in one thread, and don't spam all Lollipop-related threads. So many threads are active right now anyways, so someone is bound to see your post.
My bad guys i was just trying to see what ppl had to say and i was gonna ask if any one with the galaxy gear was having any luck with it working on lollipop

I connect to home wifi network and update apps. Its gone. My work wifi block something so that appeared the whole day
I rolled back to 4.4.4 and I can't get any OTA updates; not even the NK3 update released in January. I even tried using an ATT sim. Anyone else with this problem?
