On a stock unrooted droid inc2, does holding down on the volume key and pressing power get you into the boot loader? I tried and it doesnt seem to work.

Yeah it does. Make sure to turn off fast boot in settings->power. Then it should work.
Is it crazy of me to think that if I turn fastboot off, then do a factory reset, then when it powers off hold vol down, before it starts doing the "verizon update software" and go into bootloader BEFORE it installs the update? that wont work will it.
EDIT: nevermind, doesnt work.

Ever since I went to cm7 nightly, I can't boot into recovery clockwork anymore. Holding volume down plus power does nothing anymore. Yeh I know I can get into it after booting up and going into clockwork but what happens if I can't boot someday and need to get into recovery?
You tried turning off, remove & reinsert the battery, hold volume down first then press power?
why would i remove the battery? Im not gunna take off my defender case each time i wanna do that
Ive done everything else though yes.

Because I asked if you'd tried it, which you haven't.
You thought that maybe the case might be pushing the volume buttons?
took the battery out and held down volume down + power and still nothing.
Is this feature totally turned off in CM7? I dont even see an option to turn on/off fastboot.
Im assuming this issue is the fault of the rom?
Is there another way to boot into the phone and install a rom without holding down volume + power?
EDIT: Did a complete overhaul and everything seems to work now. thx
Can you confirm that the volume keys work while switched on?
my volume keys work at all times

it's defo nothing to do with CM7, the bootloader is a deeper level of software and exists independently to the operating system. do you have adb? maybe you should try the " adb reboot bootloader " command, after you boot into bootloader, remove your battery and see if you can boot back into bootloader normally
Just a thought but have you disabled fast boot? Made that mistake myself and spent 10 minutes trying to figure out what was wrong.
thx guys but i got everything worked out 4 posts up
i heard that you simply hold down the VOLUME DOWN and POWER BUTTON at the same time to boot into recovery, however whenever i try it does nothing until i release my finger from the POWER BUTTON and then it just boots normally.
what's the proper way of doing this with this phone?
thanks
[EDIT] as stated below, i got it to work. rather then powering off completely and trying it, i ended up just doing a simple reboot and then it worked.

Did you flash the recovery correctly? Try reflashing it if it won't work.

i got it. apparently i was doing it incorrectly. i was powering down the phone completely and then attempting it.. i finally tried to just 'reboot' the phone and then it worked.
go into "settings" click "power".. and make sure "Fast Boot" is un-checked.
Same here. Even though Fastboot was disabled, I cannot boot into recovery from off state.
If I power up the phone normally, then select restart, and while the phone is rebooting--I press and hold the down volume key; THEN it boots into the menu that gives me the choice of booting into recovery.
Oh well, it worked...
Hello Root, bye-bye bloat!
Waiting for some CM7 goodness to spread our way.
For the life of me I can't get the Vol Up + Vol Down + Power button combo to bring up any menu options in the recovery mode on my Galaxy Nexus. This is a GSM from the Play store. I'm running stock Jelly Bean setup. I was trying to unlock the bootloader and do the factory image install, but I kept getting a boot cycle. I tried to go into recovery to data wipe, but I couldn't ever get the menu options to come up, just have the Android on his back with the exclamation point. Anyone else see this?
that is the stock recovery.
press power and vol down and up and you'll get the menu.

Wait, let's see if you're not confusing things.
To unlock: with the device off, 3bc (3 button combo) power+vol up+vol down. Hold it until you see bootloader screen. Connect the device to pc previously set up with fastboot, and in a command line, type 'fastboot oem unlock'. Accept on the device.
When in recovery (accessable by using volume keys in bootloader screen, also allows to reboot bootloader, start system), press vol up (or vol up+power, can't remember right now) to see stock recovery menus.
Nevermind recovery right now, follow efrant's guide on flashing stock/unlock. Set up fastboot. Don't use toolkits.

Ok my phone is now flashed. But I still can't get anything to show up in stock recovery. I can get to bootloader and volume up to recovery then I get the android on his back with bang. No button combo here brings up any menu options.

Awesome, thanks! This actually works, not sure why the 3 button combo wouldn't get it every once in a while. Is the 3 button combo used for the CDMA VZ version of the phone? I even saw this used in a youtube video!

Nope. It's power and volume up to get into the recovery menu from the recovery screen. Power and volume up and down is to get into the bootloader.
I tried power and volume up. Nothing happened!!!
I flahsed back to stock.... and got bootloop. since I didn't flash data image.
Edit:
Ok got it. press power button first .follow by volume up.
Hi guys. Im pretty experienced with android but this one has me stumped. My buddies brother has a stock/non-rooted optimus g e971 on Rogers. He changed his screen lock password and forgot what it is. Of course he never register a Gmail account so I can't recover that way. I figure no problem. Shut down, pwr+vol down to factory reset. Well nope doesn't work. It flashes the lg logo twice then boots like normal.
Ok so I figure I'll just put it in download mode/fast boot to do the factory reset. Tried pwr+vol up. Nope. Vol up+vol down+pwr. Nope. Vol up+vol down and plug usb+pwr. Nope. It just flashed the lg logo twice then boots like normal. I've tried multiple variations of each holding the pwr for different lengths of time, always with the same result.
Anyone have any suggestions? It's not bricked, and the vol keys are working, it just won't go into any modes.
also I dont know if he has hardware encryption enabled (of if thats even an option on this device) but would that even prevent me from getting into factory reset / download mode?
Also I check that the vol rocker is working. when it is on but screen is off, if i click the vol rocker either way it wakes the screen.
I have a similar problem. Here's a thread I made about it http://forum.xda-developers.com/optimus-g-intl/help/enter-download-mode-t2883542.A couple of guys had some ideas.None worked in my phone but maybe you're luckier.
If you haven't done that already you should try going into download mode by pressing power up+down and plug the cable, don't press the pwr button.
If you find a solution pls let me know .
Yup, you shouldn't need to press the power button for download mode.
First, make sure you have the LG United Mobile drivers installed on the PC you're using. Then plug your USB cable into the PC (not the phone yet). Simultaneously press and hold the Vol +/- buttons, and hold for 10 seconds. Then while still holding the vol buttons, connect the micro usb to the phone.

Doesn't work either. If I hold +/- for 10 sec then plug in the usb it flashes the lg logo twice, then goes to the battery charging screen. If I hold +/- for 20 sec then plug in the usb it flashes the lg logo twice then boots like normal.
after reading this post i went and tried if i also cant get into the recovery and the same happened to me, the LG logo just flashes and nothing happens. mine is stock E975 (4.4.2).
worked for me.

Android has SD card encryption disabled by default - but if it was enabled it shouldnt disable recovery/fastboot - right?
Even if the bootloader is locked, i should still be able to get into fastboot/download mode, and/or recovery, right?

That's what i figured, but i didn't know if there is some quirk with this device i wasn't aware of.
Is it possible i have a corrupt boot loader? Again this device I'd completely stock.
anyone?
i seem to have hard bricked the device and i have been attempting to find a way i can fix it for hours.. i seem to be stuck. Its stuck on the boot animation cyanogenMod logo. I am unable to get into the recovery mode, as well as fast boot mode. i let it sit on that boot logo for hours without anything at all happening. No progress what so ever. Now the biggest thing i am trying to figure out is how i even managed to get this to happen. there was a software update notification that i received, so i figured it may have been the Android L update or something, so without taking into considering what exactly i was agreeing to i accepted, and continued. Let it reboot, and thats how i got to come across this issue. Any suggestions.
So if you hold down "volume up", "volume down", and then press and hold the power button, does it not boot into the bootloader? You may have to hold all three down for 15 seconds or so... Based on the fact that you can see the boot animation, it tells me that your bootloader is indeed functional, so, once booted into the bootloader, you can easily flash the factory images (as per this) and restore your device to working condition.

Yeah ive tried that, and nothing is working it just keeps going back to that same boot animation & im out of ideas. Iknow there has to be a way though.

What I find strange is that it boots to the boot animation -- that means the bootloader has loaded up the kernel and Android is attempting to start. The bootloader loads up before anything, so it is obviously working. Don't know why you can't access its menu though with the 3-key press. Maybe one of your volumes keys is not working properly? By holding those three keys down, it should not boot to the boot animation...
Can you get into download mode? Hold only volume down and press and hold power. If so, then you can use Odin and flash a stock ROM as per this thread.
In any case, if you can't get into the bootloader or download mode, then your only option is using OMAPFlash (as per this thread). That will re-flash your bootloader. If you still can't get into the bootloader menu after that, then there is a hardware issue.
