I just bought a 32gb class 4 micro sd card and after formatting it via my desire Z, i keep on running into a really really wierd problem.
I would connect my phone to the computer and set it as disk drive and drag/drop a group of files in it (ie. playlist file or small ringtone files) and as soon as I eject it and unplug the cable from my phone, the files are suddenly gone again.
What am I screwing up and how do I fix this?
Is it possible that my format method is wrong? if so, can someone explain what's the best way to format the card properly.
Why did you even format it in the first place?? Don't fix what's not broken...
What OS are you using on your computer?
I usually format every card i get as a habit. Don't know why, I was just taught to do that and never really thought it would hurt.
I'm using Windows 7
Try format it from your computer to FAT32

I've already done that a while back. it actually made the card read only when i put it on my phone.
I think you've got a defected micro sd mate

you mean defective. And yes, I believe so. I've contacted the seller and he's agreed to do an exchange for me. Hopefully I'll receive a new one that works by next week....

All SD cards, thumb drives, etc. are already formatted, usually FAT32, so you are wasting your time doing exactly what is already done. If you were to format to something besides FAT32, that would make sense.
haha sorry I sent this almost as soon as I woke up, hope you can forgive me ;D

Well, again, it's just a habit, but nothing wrong with it I believe. I waste maybe a few minutes doing a quick format.
But yeah, I'm sending the card back to the seller for an exchange so hopefully it's just bad luck. If not I'll have to spend more money on a better card eventhough this one is a Kingston class 4 which was unsettling....

Lol, I just correct people when necessary since the internet is usally plagued with people who don't understand the basic difference in homonyms like your and you're or there, their, they're and etc.
My correction has no spite attached to it

I use class 4, its fast enough for 720p recording and playback

That sounds about right. I wish I can get a class 6 but then again i dont trust the stuff on ebay and the stuff on other sites really show offbrand stuff that I've rarely heard of..

I don't see why not, but don't take my word for it.
I think with 32GB there are a few problems, not with the stock rom though (as far as I know).
Well il try it and see. How do I copy ALL data of my sd to put on my new one as it only shows my pictures and such, no app or games. Thanks
Using A 32GB Class 4, works fine.
Have a 2GB EXT4 on it which also works fine.

The way I did it was;
Make a nadroid backup on the old card
Backup old card to PC
Partition the new card
Copy everything to the new card
Then restore nadroid backup
Should look like nothing has changed, apart from having more space
i'm using a 32gb class 10 lexar and it's working a treat for me. sorted it out with gparted ready for my rom.
no problems here.
Right I have no idea what's happening but I have formated the new sd and partioned it. When I copy all my files from my mid SD only some will copy. I mean it shows then all but then if I put it in my phone there not there and when I plug it back into the pc there not there. Very strange. And its important ones like the backups and ROMs. What can be up?

There is a tool you can run something like h2testw that you can run on the whole card to see if there's any errors. I ran it on one I bought which was duff

Worked fine with 32GB ADATA class4 on stock pre-rooted Froyo.
I tried on GingerVilain, it's work, but it is slower of Froyo.
Right cheers for all the replys will do some more testing without it partitioned and such to see if it is defo fake.
Right I gave bought a new card which admittedly is a cheap one again although it says on there website that it is tested on h2testw and is fully functional. But I have had the same problems as before so decided to run h2testw on the card and it says the card is likely to be deffective. Is there anything else apart from it being a dodgy card again. I can't belitd sellers can say they are ok when there not.
which 32gb microsd card would you guys say is the best for this phone? if there is already a thread about it please link me to it but also tell me your personal opinions and what you think is the best. by best, i mean best performing (for games etc.) and one that works fast. thank you.
I suppose your looking for personal preference, or experience since its a fairly hard to define question.
Best card available for the xplay period is obviously the 64GB Sandisk.
Best 32GB card? well there is far more choice, iv'e never have trouble with Sandisk cards, others say Transcend, there are other good brands as well.
Stick to class 4 or class 6 cards for best performance if you can, many have reported performance problems with class 10 and some have with class 2 cards, but I haven't had any problems with class 2 myself.
Avoid cheap micro sd cards on ebay, other than that should cover what you would be looking for.
thank you kindly
can i get a micro sd card (32gb) better than this:
http://www.mobymemory.co.uk/micro-sd-micro-sdhc-transflash/6128-sandisk-32gb-micro-sd-class-4.html
?
thanks
currently i have an 8gb class 6 "high speed" micro sd card. i dont know the brand but it says made in taiwan. it came with the phone.
also, is there any way that i can increase the amount of storage available on my phone without rooting? i have moved a lot of apps to sd card but only have about 40mb space left and only about 70 apps.
thanks
If I copied and pasted the contents from the computer, would I lose anything?

Yes, it would be the same, except you'll have more memory on your sdcard
I have that sdcard you are looking at. I have had no problems with it at all. So id say thats a good one to get

I never actually used the original sdcard, i used a 32gb straight away so i cant compare the two

thanks. i was wondering since my current sd card is class 6 so i wouldn't want it to be slower.
also, is there any way that i can increase the amount of storage available on my phone without rooting? i have moved a lot of apps to sd card but only have about23mb space left and only about 70 apps.
I have a class 4 Sandisk 32GB and Have had no troubles with it. I have been loving my PS1 and N64 emulators.

No. Root it then remove unwanted bloatware and pop perhaps a ext4 partition on the sdcard

which emulators do you use?
what is the best free one?
and is the sandisk micro sd card quite fast?
For the best emulator, get FPse, it's the best PS emulator.
It's not free, but it's worth it's money.

Burn a copy of your PS game into .iso and put it on your sd card.
You should legally own the games
No idea how to do any of that stuff and I'd probably be a hassle trying to find the games. Thanks though!

My phone was charging this morning. And then out of the sudden, I look at it and have this notification.(see pics below). I click on it and a box comes up asking me to reformat my card. I have too many pics on that card that I would hate to lose. By the way is a SanDisk Ultra class 10 32GB. Any thoughts or possible fix?

First and for most I am not responsible for anything that might happen to your phone, computer, or sd card. I am simply posting to help anyone ot there who might have an error with there new cards.
So along with alot of others who jumped on the 64gb micro sd sales I purchased from best buy. When I tried to get my phone to register the card which was originally extfat by default it wasnt recognized. So then I tried formating to ntsc to yet again fail. I finally tried to convert to fat32. What follows is a guide to get uou 64gb sd card to fat32.
First make sure you backup any info you might have on you 64gb. Card because formatting will erase EVERYTHING.
Second, connect your micro sd to a computer. I personally used the micro sd to full sd adapter that came with my card.
Third go to the following website
http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?fat32format.htm
And download the gui app by clicking the picture.
Fourth run it. Make sure you select the right location to were your sdcard is.
Fifth click the allocation to your preference (im not sure what this is suppose to do but I set it to max roughly about 64-65) then make sure you select the right destination if not you can format your hdd on the computer. Then press the quick format and start button.
Sixth the script should take less then a min. To be done and have a formatted fat32 64gb microsd card..

How common is this issue? I've got a 64GB Sandisk with exformat in my T889 with no apparent problems (so far).
Im not to sure how common it is but I ran into trouble. I tried the default for the card then ntsc and it wasnt registering with my phone althought I must say I was running perseus kerenel with the memory swap script. Then after I formatted to fat32 it work. Not sure were I read on some other people running in to trouble with the same sandisk card until they formatted.

Hmm. I dont even know there's an issue like this. I bought my card online 64GB Sandisk Class 10 during the Thanksgiving sales and its like plug and play since then. No problem at all.

It is a Sandisk, I never formatted the card..I was told we don't have to format a Sandisk card, they come that way...I have a Note 2 from T-Mobile...

I just had the same thing happen to me..I downloaded a bunch of albums..they were there..then I rebooted and they were gone...but when uTorrent was downloading it told me I didn't have enough space..I told it to go ahead anyway...they made it but then disappeared..
I have had my 64gb. San disk for about a year and a half without any issues. I formatted the way I outlined in the first post and it has been smooth sailing ever since. I know that the first post could be a bit tedious but it is the RIGHT way. No short cuts. I did have an issue with some kerrnels. For example saber kernel from Jedi Roms says that it can swap your memory partition from external to internal and it does for about a week and then for some odd reason it just locks your SD so you can't download or delete any thing. The combination I have been using is an old school pegasus kernel with a memory swap script. I have been using that for a long time and not only is it the most stable memory swap, but the kernel has never messed up my SD either. P.S. just my 2 cents
