[Q] Is my phone bricked? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Whenever I try to boot up my Desire Z, it would show me the HTC logo, but shut off promptly. I'd be able to enter the bootloader, but whenever I try entering recovery, I get this:

Is my phone bricked?
I'm not sure what was done previously, as I bought this phone second hand, so I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to rectify the problem.

Sounds like a soft brick, at the worst. You can fix it. Look up loading a rom from bootloader dezire z. Maybe you can put the new update on the sd card. You will lose root though, which you probably have if the got you stuck on that screen.

Try looking up about the triangle, also. There might be some buttons you can press etc.

At the triangle screen you show, hold down volume for a second or 2 then press and hold power. See if that doesn't take you to the text-based recovery screen (stock is blue text?).
PS - sounds like no rom and/or radio is flashed, that or someone tried to reroot and stockify it but bricked it as you describe. I'm inclined to believe it's been wiped clean. What's the bootloader show for your hboot, radio versions etc?

Ah, I was able to get it into the 3e recovery with the blue text, but unfortunately I can't do anything there.
I think I have another problem now, though. The battery won't charge. If I plug it in, it'll flash an orange and green LED, and from what I've been able to gather online, that means there's something wrong with the battery connection or overheating? It's not the latter, so I'm going to assume there's something wrong with the pins. The warranty sticker has been broken as well, so I think I think I'm SOL.
Thanks for the help anyway, guys!

Hiw do you root your Slide without Screen ?

My Slide just got a Touch Screen Fail message at boot. I am trying to root it so I can try to load a new ROM, to see it it might help.
I can boot phone normally, but I have no touch screen, so I cannot change to USB debug, nor use the phone for anything else.
I need to be able to root it from the Bootloader. Anybody has any suggestion how to remove the S-Off and be able to reflash phone ?
Is there a custom Esprimg file that can help ?

Well you CAN actually use the trackpad to navigate without the touchscreen. Bit difficult, but it can be done. What's the message you get exactly? Even a picture would help

How could you get that if you weren't rooted?
You should take it to T-Mobile and get it replaced.

Afaik, you most likely need the touch screen in order to root. Then again, I am a noob at this stuff. If the touch screen showed as a failure it may be a hardware problem. Other than that you can navigate just fine with the trackpad and select with it or with the keyboard to tick "USB Debugging".

[Q] Phone Reboots random after system update with charger connected

Hey every one,
I have the following problem with my dads new HTC one V...
The phone asked for a systemupdate so i did, but didn't read the instructions to carefully. (Overconfidend...) Actually though hm i'm so smart lets put in the charged incase it might take to long i get screwed.
Turn out that it SPECIFICALLY said to NOT do that. -_-'
"When the battery charged to 50%, I started the update process but left the “smart” phone connected with charger. After the phone restarted itself, it just showed a static green round arrow icon and no status or progress bar. After waiting for more 30 minutes, that scary motionless screen remained unchanged, looked like it’s hung or stopped updating.
Luckily I did take some screenshots of system update screen and sent to Gmail prior to the update process started. Here is the answer to the problem – avoid charging your phone during the update as it may interfere with the process

After awhile i heard the startup sound of the phone coming from the other side of the room randomly... I checked the phone and saw that i rebooted. I could still enter pin code but now it randomly reboots!
Any help here?

[Q] Is my SPH-L710 Toast?

Hi guys, I've been scouring Google for 3 days now and can't come up with an answer, everything says use Odin for this and use Odin for that... well I can't.
A few days ago I downloaded an app from the Google store Linuxonandriod or something like that, it's pretty much an installer to place Ubuntu on your phone side by side with Android, the instructions began with rooting the phone, I began that process and believe I accidently loaded the incorrect pda to the phone (I have so many files now on my comp, I have no clue which one I selected). Odin rebooted the phone and that's that.
If I try to turn on the phone it goes to the first screen that just says SAMSUNG then turns off, never getting to the Samsung Galaxy III screen. The USB on the phone seems to have been botched, none of my computers will recognize it (Windows or Linux), the phone will not even charge. I can however get into both recovery and download modes without problem.
Naturally, download mode does no good because the USB is useless and I do not have clockwork mod installed on the phone to bypass the verification error.
I tried to simply install clockwork via recovery in hopes that would do something, but I get a verification error with that.
Is there anyway around this using the SD card or am I holding a $300 paperweight?
Thanks

Thanks, for the link. I did check it out, but couldn't figure out what the poster was talking about with drive letters and such. That dmesg | tail told me nothing about my sd. I unzipped everything to the card by a different method but my the computer still wouldn't recognize the phone, so booting back into windows did nothing.
Sorry for the delay in response, I've been extremely busy with work.
I'm still at a total loss on this.

Fried motherboard?

Hello,
Yesterday my half year Nexus 5x has started to do strange things. It froze when testing WiFi speed and then started to hang when trying to boot. When I powered it off, it started behave like it would be bricked. Connecting to PC did nothing. After 5 minutes of pressing POWER + VOL UP + VOL DOWN it shown bootloader so I could reset it to stock and check if it works.
Sadly stock can't even boot because phone freezes and stops to respond to anything or reboots and freezes on Google logo.
When powered off it still generates a lot of heat. After leaving it for night with full battery, battery was fully depleted at morning.
About month ago it very overheated and sim reader stopped working for about hour.
Currently it's booted to bootloader and connected to charger. I'm not going to power off it, because booting to bootloader starts to be very hard.
Any ideas what is wrong with it? Is motherboard fried?
I'm going to relock bootloader and RMA it.
Exact same behaviour : http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/help/nexus-5x-dead-help-wont-boot-t3427169/

I checked it now. I have almost the same issue but mine 5x was showing normally boot screen but it freezes after getting some temperature. I used fan to cool it down and I could boot it normally but after selecting language it froze and restarted. It also powercycles in bootloader, so it was really hard (almost impossible) to restore stock.

M9 boot loop

Hello there! Apologies for the vague thread name, I'm actually unsure what is wrong with the phone -long story short, I've bought it in CashConverters, thinking I could earn some (M9 for thirdy quid? bloody hell).
The phone does turn on, so I don't think it's hard-bricked. When the phone is turned on, it goes to this menu
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
REBOOT and REBOOT TO BOOTLOADER result in the same, as does turning it on after POWER DOWN.
After pressing BOOT TO DOWNLOAD MODE, this menu pops up, and pretty much goes back to the first one upon VOL UP or VOL DOWN.
BOOT TO RECOVERY MODE does work, and results in this menu
I have once attempted to "apply an update from SD card", it resulted in this, and decided not to test my luck.
Couple things to note, I do IT for a living, started working on it yesterday, 2pm - 2am, mostly reading through XDA and android pages, didn't manage to find a solution yet, and I'll stab myself with a spoon if I failed at searching.
My question is: can I fix it? Is it worth it?
You could flash a RUU.exe if its a tmobile, verizon, sprint etc. Other than that i dont know... You cant even see what firmware number you got

I assume it's O2 because it says himauhl_o2_uk, plus an O2 sticker. Other than that, I don't know, as I can only access recovery, and literally got it in that state.
Edit: I assume it's caused by someone disconnecting the phone while updating through HTC Sync, but I am unsure.
I am having this same exact issue with my Sprint M9. I have tried installing the 0PJAIMG from the SD Card and no love. Get error E:footer is wrong signature verification failed.
Any help with this would be much appreciated.
