[Q] CM7 - myTouch 3G Slide Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

It would seem that i am not the on;y one with issues concerning CM7 update 2.3.5
MY issues revolve around wifi, and the mechanizim used to overclock the kernal.
For the wifi it to put it simply 'has more back N forth than a female on that time' meaning at times it acts fine. Others it connects and reconnects rapidly and continously to point where there is no use to it.
The kernal running at full speed at all time no matter what i put the cpu settings is an issue since it feels like a how coal after and hour or so of continued use.
Also the super user keeps on malfunctioning so i had to bit my tongue and revert back to cm6 losing all my data since i could not back it up.
If any body had anser to these questions i would be happy to upgrade back to cm7
thank u

all on cm6 wifi works pefectly as before so it has to be something in the cm7 that causing the issue

CM7
I tried the CM7.1-RC1. It looks great, but it sucks battery like a starving vampire and Bluetooth is seriously screwed. I wiped it and went back to the rooted OTA 2.2.1 until I read those issues have been resolved.

Is streaming/internet radio working on your Desire? (issue with wireless N patch?)

It's not working properly on mine, ever since I moved up to FroYo a couple of weeks ago.
Streaming works fine over 3G but if I use it on wi-fi, with the screen switched off, the music starts stuttering and eventually skips.
Thought it was an issue with the rom I was using, but I've tried three different ones (including one of the new ones from this afternoon) and I'm seeing the same issue.
Wi-fi policy is set to never sleep so it can't be that.
Could somebody test it out and let me know?
NB
It only happens on wi-fi
It only happens when the screen has been off for one-two minutes
Update, in the off-chance that somebody, somewhere has actually bothered to read this...
Flashed back to 2.1 and the issue was gone. Back to 2.2 and the issue is there again.
edited to remove pointless speculation. solution is on page 2.
why would you call HTC support, surely thats a job for the last.fm development team to work out.
Because I don't think it's an issue with last.fm. It apparently works fine on non-Sense phones, and even works fine with the earlier versions of HTC Sense.
Last.fm has permission to keep the phone awake, and it does so over 3G but not over wi-fi.
It doesn't really make sense unless the newer version of Sense is throttling the wi-fi when it goes into sleep mode and is not allowing last.fm to keep the phone awake.
Can't really verify that though... I might try to find another app that uses the wi-fi connection and see if it exhibits the same behaviour when the screen is off.
edit: just checked with the speedtest.net app and switching the screen off freezes the download in its tracks. Resumes again when you switch the screen back on.
Phone/Wifi sleep issue while not plugged in
Hi, I can confirm that this is happening to me with XiiaLive in an identical way.
- 3G streaming works ok
- Wifi + screen on works ok
- Wifi + screen off BUT plugged into AC works ok
- Wifi + screen off => drops the connection after a couple of minutes
I went mad yesterday trying to make xiia work, but then realized that this could be the case and found this post and another one on Modaco (http://android.modaco.com/content/h...s-possibly-a-request-for-the-next-modaco-rom/)
So you actually saved me the time of testing it in other roms, but anyway, which rom have you got ? I have ieftm one.
I can save you the time to test it with other streaming services, I've tried them all hehe.
It could be a phone sleep issue, rather that a wifi sleep.
Well, like I said above, my guess is that the newer version of sense is throttling the wi-fi to save battery life when the phone is idle. The wi-fi is still working but it's capped at a lower speed.
You can test this by installing tunewiki and trying out a few radio streams. 96kbps works perfectly, 128kbps is ok but stutters a little at times. Then when you go up to 192kbps (which I think is the quality last.fm streams at) it can't keep up anymore and the tracks skip.
re:roms - I was on ieftm, am currently on modaco and was on modaco r5 and r6 before that. All of them have the same issue and all are based on the FroYo/Sense roms.
Hm, it´s working just fine for me. Listening to it right now with display turned off, no problem here.
Using the original Froyo on a debranded Desire...
What do you mean by original FroYo? As in vanilla?
From what I can tell it's only happening on Sense roms.
My statement was a little misleading. I was referring to the normal OTA update...

Hmm. And it's on wi-fi and it's not plugged in to the mains?
Weird. I can't replicate this on any FroYo + Sense rom. I haven't tried an unrooted 2.2 rom, though.
Be good if we could get somebody else on an OTA 2.2 rom to confirm this.

Nope, neither on 3G, nor plugged in... Used last.fm quite a lot in the past days and never experienced your troubles. It only runs on Wifi and mostly unplugged.
Very odd. Thanks anyway.
Maybe this is unique to rooted roms, then.
edit: all the roms I've used have had the wi-fi n patch, now that I think about it. Will see if I can find one that's unmodified.
That's a nice finding (about throttling speed). About n patch: it had problems from day one (and I don't need it), but I can't recall if the version of ieftm I installed has it. Any way to check it, or do you know if it was included from the start ?
Fixed. Did a full wipe and installed a rom that didn't have the wireless n patch. Problem gone.
Sibbi, thanks for posting. Wouldn't have occurred to me otherwise.
Anybody else experiencing an issue with streaming radio/podcasts over wi-fi while the screen is idle, you can grab a rom without the wireless n patch here:
http://android.modaco.com/content/h...-froyo-pre-rooted-no-hboot-with-radio-deodex/
Pick one of the 'with radio' roms. Odexed or deodexed doesn't matter. Make sure to do a full wipe first.
Nice ! Any way to remove the n patch without changing rom ?
Don't know. It could be as simple as extracting the rom and removing the patch, but I couldn't say.
If we could find out where exactly the N patch is and what it's called, I'd be willing to try it out.
You'd still have to wipe and reinstall though
I'll try to find the original n patch and see what changes in regards to modaco original rom
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=707873&highlight=Wireless+patch
This was for 2.1, but it might just be the same hack ? It's a small hex edit and a file substitution (kernel module if I'm not mistaken). Will try it tomorrow if nobody does it in the meantime, too drunk right now ...
I'd be a bit wary of that tbh. I don't know enough to go messing around with it. Especially not at two in the morning, when I should already be in bed.
I did find this part interesting:
"Also in theory WiFi n will most prob drain more battery than WiFi g but in my zip's there is k newer firmware which is suppose to help in battery drain."
I wonder if the improvement to battery drain that he's talking about involved throttling down the wi-fi connection when the phone was idle?! Hmm.
Probably, will mess with it tomorrow after a sleep and a nandroid

Help me track down this 100% wake issue

Ok, so this has been driving me crazy. Every Froyo ROM that I've tried that has Sense in it (Fresh 3.1.0.1 & Steel's rooted stock) stays awake 100% of the time. I've downloaded Spare Parts and there's not a partial wake issue; it always shows 100% running under other usage. Before this afternoon I had been using CM6 RC2, and the problem had not shown up at all. I decided to go back to a Sense ROM so I could have 4G functionality, and as soon as it booted up the 100% awake issue came back...and this was before I even started reinstalling apps. I would like to stay with an HTC based ROM right now, but if I can't track down the cause then I'm going to have to go back to CM6.
So, where do I need to start in trying to figure this out?
only apps i know having this issue were facebook and camera 360. do a full wipe and dont restore anything. see if it happens with no apps installed.
I'm doing that right now. I'll report back what I find out.
Fring used to do that when I first got my Evo.

Well, I think I may have figured it out. For some reason Swype keeps giving me trouble after being installed for a while. It begins acting like it has expired, and as soon as that happens the awake time starts to run out of control. So far I've got most of my apps back on the phone (swype not included) and everything is still running fine. I'm going to give it a little more time before deciding for sure, but so far so good...

[Q] DINC Random Reboots

Although I have been doing a lot of reading the last few months, I am new to posting, so please bear with. My DINC just started randomly rebooting about 2 weeks ago and I am trying to figure out why. It was running great before with (rooted) Skyraider 3.0 RC3 Vanilla, kings BFS#5, S-Off, 2.15 radio and HBoot .79. The problems began when I installed Juice Defender, didn't really like it, and then un-installed it. I did not disable anything JD did before un-installing. Now, with the same set-up as before, I get random reboots when I'm on Explorer for a few minutes, when GPS Navigation is on, and then randomly on GChat and the Market. It seems to happen more when the temp is higher, but it's rarely over 100 degrees F. Half of the reboots end up in QualComm debug mode. I have tried a full wipe and reinstalling the ROM, kernel and prior settings. The only thing I can think of is that Juice Defender changed some type of setting, application or system, and now it's having fits. I downloaded aLogCat and had it running during the last reboot and can PM the .txt file if you think that would help. Does anyone know what's going on or how I can fix it? Any help is great appreciated!
Also, the current applications that I have are:
ad-free
advanced task manager
beautiful widgets
setCPU
amazon reader
scorecenter
Mint.com
switchpro
bump
battery indicator
astro
root explorer
rom manager
barcode scanner
facebook
goggles
dspmanager
handcent
linpack
metamorph
mixing
papertoss
pandora
shazam
spare parts
tapatalk pro
titanium backup
weather channel
widget locker

Are you overclocking? Some phones can't handle much and it's known to cause similar problems. Other than that I'm not sure if anything JD changes would remain once it's un-installed; but if so you might install it again, change everything back to stock, then un-install it. Just a guess, hope you get it figured out
I'm pretty sure the DINC has rebooting problems.
What version do you have, SLCD or LED?
I've had the LED version since it's released and I just started getting random reboots last month or so. Sometimes it goes into fits and just reboots nonstop for a couple hours. I've reverted it back to completely stock (unrooted, S-ON, stock recovery, stock 2.2 ROM) and I still have the same problem. Using stock battery as well. I've always cleared cache, factory reset, clear data, etc. I've done everything I can think of, but I think this phone just has problems that some people encounter even when completely stock (and even people who have never modified their phone at all if you do some searches on google).
It may have to do with the heat, I'm going to keep doing some testing. It seems like it goes into reboot fits when it gets hot or when I'm doing a lot of processing like using GPS and maps. It rarely reboots when it's idle.

Same here. Exchanged it with Verizon, almost no questions asked. Got AMOLED refurb, so far so good. Replacement was with OTA installed though, so waiting for new root.
You should revert your phone to fully stock, turn S-ON, unroot, stock ROM, etc. Make it look as legit as possible. If your problems go away then obviously something got screwed up in the flashing process. If your problems remain, then it's something wrong with the actual phone, and since you just made it completely stock you're in the perfect shoes to go exchange it.
In summary, the best measure to take if you're having reboot problems is to exchange it at a Verizon store; that's what most people are doing.
I'm going to exchange mine tomorrow. It should be covered under the 1 year warranty so you should not need insurance to do it.
Just an update: I am still having random reboots after uninstalling Advanced Task Manager and Widget Locker (read in posts these can cause problems). Now even when I use Amazon reader, the phone reboots rather quickly. One thing to note is that when I turn off 3G, it hasn't rebooted. This was one of my thoughts to begin with since approximately all of the reboots occurred when I was using 3G (browser, market, GChat and Nav). Does this narrow down any problems?
Next, I am going to install the new Skyraider 3.0 (ihtfp69 said it should be out first week of Dec.) and install apps one-by-one to see if the rebooting continues. Then I guess I will have to go s-off, unroot, etc. Crossing my fingers...
Sounds to me that you have the faulty overheating 3G radio..it is a somewhat documented problem and I believe it's the same problem I have. The only solution is to swap it at a verizon store. I'm afraid other ROMs or anything else you do will not solve the problem.

Odds are your radio is failing, which is a relatively common problem. Your symptoms are pretty much a textbook example and something that I experienced firsthand on my previous Incredible. The only fix is a warranty exchange.
That's disappointing. Thanks for the info everyone. I guess it's time to start the process of unrooting...
I thought I would post my situation/solution here, although it may not have any bearing on the issues that previous posters have mentioned. I got myself a Seidio 3500mAh Extended Life Battery several months ago. The first month was good. The next 1-2 months seemed to bring decreased battery performance - I was just about making it through a day with moderately-heavy use, but this battery should be able to handle that with no problem.
Over the last month I started having random reboots and it was getting more frequent. I don't know why but I just had this feeling that the battery was coming a bit loose and losing contact occasionally, although I couldn't force a reboot by shaking it.
Just a few days ago I decided to put a few layers of paperboard (i.e., box of tissues) between the battery and the case, just to see what happened. I haven't had any random reboots since I did that and the battery life seems markedly improved.
Again, this may not be relevant for some but I thought I would post my experience in case it helps anyone.

Interesting. I'm using the big batt too, but my only reboots happen with GPS. As I'm driving (unfortunately) with my Nav on, all of a sudden, I look to see what my next turn is, and I'm on the "HTC Incredible" splash screen! Most annoying thing ever.
I'm still waiting for a fix. I really don't want to unroot, lose everything, and have to exchange for a warranty phone.
By the way, with a fix like this, I feel like my blackberry days again!

[Q] problem with my rom- cause; froyo ota?

So I've been running the supernova 1.6 rom dk28 for weeks. Always worked great(other than gps, but I don't use it, so never bothered). Then over the course I started noticng al sorts of issues; rotating lag, screen timing out too early/not timing out atall, weird checkered pattern in browser, couldn't have more than four windows, swype probs, etc etc....But then, absolutely no data connection, even wifi, was when I really decided something whacky was up.
So I got on to post in A454nova's thread about the issue(but couldnt, bcause of new rules, but was real glad to read all the completely pointless posts filling pages, by people who apparently are priviliged to post wasted/ranting done). So I went ahead and cleared my memory/dalvik... and reloaded supernova, then restored using titanium. Now I'm back to being all peachy again. And I've done a litle searching but haven't found anything;
So has anybody else had "issues" all of the sudden come up out of nowhere? Where you previously weren't. And that even earily look like th issues people are saying about the new froyo.
Roms always are amazingly fast during the very beginNing for me but after a while they start to deteriorate in speed. Happened to me on ee like crazy.bonsai not so much.I'm now running midnight because the peace of mind of having eb13

its probably has to do with it being leaked. also you said you cleared your cache and now its better. having cache build up like that can slow your phone down. get a cache cleaner from the market and use it

[Q] My phone keeps doing a "soft reset" ??

I have scoured the forum as best as I can for this issue to try and find a solution and i'm afraid if this has come up before, i've missed it, or i don't know the correct terminology.
First - i'm running Starburst v1.9.8r and rooted with CWM.
I had Starburst 1.9.5 and updated to 1.9.8r because of this issue, only it's still there. I should say i play games on my phone that are a little memory intensive. Once in awhile, my phone does what i consider a "soft reset". It doesn't power completely off and back on like my husband's (and his brother's) Samsung Epic 4G. Instead, the phone stops what it's doing (whatever apps are running), kills everything, and then regains signal, data, media scanning, etc. At first it was only when i would play one of my games, but now it does it whenever it feels like it, even when i'm not even touching my phone. It's starting to frustrate me, especially when it happens halfway through a streaming podcast on my way home, since i use bluetooth to broadcast my media and then have to wait for the phone to finish having its little panic attack before i can reconnect the bluetooth.
I've tried lots of things, like using the task manager to kill whatever apps say they are running and the ones that don't say, doing a hard reboot, battery pull, etc. I don't like to flash roms willy nilly because i use a lot of apps on my phone (not just games) and even with backup/restore software, it's a huge PITA to set everything back up every time.
Is this the rom? Is it the phone itself? Is it me?! I thought about going back to the stock rom but i have no idea how to, and perusing through this forum is like joining a French debate team and all i know how to say is "je m'appelle danidiva" so i got lost and came here. So, if this issue is because of this rom, which rom would be more stable? or how can i get back to stock?
