There is no current method to root Arc (running Android 2.3.3) other than unlocking the bootloader and flashing with the relevant things (for .145 firmware you can downgrade and update via OTA to retain the root).
I believe there are many others like me who are also waiting for straight forward root method rather than unlocking the bootloader. Hopefully someone finds a way to root it.

No, but it may unroot itself when it updates.
No if you use OA update it will retain it's rooting, if you update thru SEUS then you will need to re-root and i don't think it is available yet. Don't aske me why OA keeps the rooting, it's a mystery of life....

For future reference check the apn settings. Not had problems so far with my arc, but often after flashing my x10 I would have to input apn settings myself.

new verizon play; need some assistance please!

OK just got this phone (800x) and it seems to be downloading the 2.3.3 update. There are sooo many different thread in development section concerning unlocking bootloader and rooting, but most seem out of date.
I have pm'd allesandro to pay for the bl unlock, but what other steps need to be taken to root? I am very interested in installing CM7 on this device and appreciate any help I can get!

well from what ive been reading is if u were on 2.3.2 with unlocked BL and tried to update to ota 2.3.3 itll cause a brick
in a nutshell you do need an unlocked BL to get root on the r800x
gsm models a bit different and the only way to unlock the BL on the r800x is thru paid at this point ashergrey's method no longer works
after that youll be able to boot into custom recovery to flash the root files
im debating to whether flash cm7 since stoock rom has been working fine for me after removing bloatware
let us know if u get the paid solution and we can help with flashing the root files
but if your gonna flash cm7 after u unlock the BL thru custom recovery you just just flash cm7 and root permission in already pre installed on cm7

My Xperia Arc seems unrootable?! Please help me!

Hello Everybody,
I may need your help!
I've got a Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc (Lt15i) with Android 2.3.4 on it. (Stock ROM)
When I got my Arc, I rootet it with the Doomloard tool... it worked without errors..
Then I had to send my mobilephone to the repair center because of a crack in the housing ... unfortunately they reset my Arc to stocksettings, like they ever did.
Then I tried to root it again, but it was not possible to root it one more time.
I installed flashtool 0.8.0.0 to flash the stockkernel once again, but rooting still doesn't work. While the rootingprocess there were errors like .. *failed to copy..* whatever..
When I watch the files on the intern phonestorage through Astro filemanager.. I'm able to see two folders which seem not to be removed through flashing or resetting to default settings etc. *root* and *sbin*
is it posssible that this two folders are the reasons why i can't root anymore?
If it's so, how can they be removed?
But may it be possible that I can only root the LT15i_4.0.2.A.0.42 ROM and not the later versions like .62 or .69?
I'm not able to find a working LT15i_4.0.2.A.0.42 Stock ROM in the internet.. all the ones I downloaded didn't work.. flashtool said flashing failed..
Could anyone post a link to me with a working .42 Stockkernel?
Or could anyone help me to root my mobile once again..
Nice greetings from Germany,
Eric
PS: I'm not very good on this area and my English is not the best, so it would be nice if you'll try to explain it very simple..
The .62 and .69 cant be rooted.
Uf you got unlocked bootloader just boot a gb kernel with flash and install root.zip (download it from superuser site)
There are many threads with roms on general thread, sticked.
Typed down from the sky with sexy LT15i
Thank you for your Answer! But I don't know wether by bootloader is locked or not... Could you post me a link with such a kernel?
I flashed .42 on my arc but the rooting didn't work.. :-(
What could be the problem?
If you don't know whether your bootloader is unlocked or not, I'm fairly certain that it's still locked. LOL!
The .42 fw is rootable with Gingerbreak v1.20. It's an .apk file. If that doesn't work, try v1.10.
So technically, Gingerbreak is all you need to root .42. You don't require an unlocked bootloader just for that.
Once you're rooted, you can upgrade to .62 OTA to still keep root.
(If you really want to unlock your bootloader, head over to Sony's website. Clear instructions are given there. You can do it for free but this voids your warranty. And keep your IMEI at hand. You'll need to enter it on the website).

[Q]Re-installing firmware

So, hello everyone.. i'm kinda new and i have a few questions.
I have my Arc S Rooted (original firmware: 2.3.4) and i want to reinstall the same version. DO I NEED to unlock my bootloader in order to do that ?And if i reinstall it, i'll loose my root right?
And finally, can someone show me a good tutorial ? (i guess flashtool is the best way to perform my reinstall) Thank you xda.

No, you don't have to unlock bootloader.
And yes, you do lose root. But if you install a older version, 4.0.2.A.0.58 for example, then root it and make update to .62(.69 if in Germany) directly from your phone via WiFi, then you have newest 2.3.4.
Thanks you so much
