Can't Play Audio Files - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry to post something so stupid but I'm frustrated I can't play audio files from the file directies, only from the Music Player.
I am on Frozen 1.2 and if I load the Music Player I can see my songs and play them. If I navigate to the song files in the directory, however, I get the following message: "This file cannot be viewed from here."
I am guessing I have to associate the Music Player with Mp3 files but I see no where to do that. Under applications the "defaults" tab if greyed out.
I am going to web sites with audio stories for my kids and it's frustrating to click on the audio link only to have it error out.
Thanks!

Remove unwanted files from music player

I installed the Asphalt game from the market and now there are close to 180 ogg files named raw* in my music player list. Is there anyway to get rid of them without unistalling the game?
I don't want to use some other music player since I like the default one's widget
Create a file with notepad and give it no name and the extention .nomedia place this in the directory that contains the items you don't want to be displayed in your media player and your problem is solved.
So you will end up this: ".nomedia" it's totaly empty but this is the way 2 go.
Worked perfectly.. Thanks!
Is there a similar approach to sorting images? The albums they show up in seem to be quite random. I'd like to define only certain folders to grab images from for the albums. I just can't figure out to manage photo albums at all.
i did it and worked at first but now i see them in music player. they are scanned again
edit: a restart fixed the issue and now they don't appear
Does it work with video files too? also wondering if it is anyhow possible to hide applications in program listing?
tried this, as my audio book files showed up in the music player, and it works...but...it also removes the audio book files from the audio book player! So I had to remove the .nomedia file again to be able to listen to my books
thanks! worked

[Q] music playing

Hello everyone! I'm having problems playing some music on the phone. I've used googles music app from market, default htc music app, and cubed player. They all seem to skip over all the songs. However, finding the music in root explorer will play it from there! They are mp3 320 bitrate... I assume not variable quality. Anyone else experience this? I'm on skyraider 1.3 btw. Thanks!
all the music players i've used work fine with my mp3 files. are the songs that get skipped in the same folder as the other files that work? the only thing i can think of is a .nomedia file is placed in their folder, which makes any media invisible to any media player, pics included.
try moving the music that isn't recognized to a different location and check again.

[Q] Music apps cannot locate music files....

hi guys,
I'm on AOKP B31 with Franco r130 kernel
For some reason my music files will not show up in any of my music apps (google play or songbird.
I know the files are there and the only way I can get the music to play is to manually open the file through es file explorer and use the es music player. If I try to manually open the file and try using google play or songbird both apps will crash.
I've already deleted the one .nomedia file I saw in my music folder and rebooted the phone and I get the same problems.
If you need more info please let me know but any help would be appreciated.
Thanks guys!
*Forgot to mention that I've also tried reinstalling the music apps as well with no success.
**I fixed it. Not sure what was going on, but i took my music files out of the music folder, deleted the music folder, then created a new music folder, transferred music back in, cleared data for both music apps, and now it works. Not sure what was going on....
Try rebooting your device. If that doesn't work install winamp or poweramp to see if the problem exists there to.
Note: m4v or other apple produced media files will not be added to play music or google based music apps. Poweramp and winamp do!
If you love google play music make the music folder on your computer stream it's media to google play online using music manager and play it on your phone from the cloud.
If you like to convert your media to mp3, ogg or flac (best supported on android)
Use a free program called foobar. I like it because it allowes me to batch edit music tags in most formats, batch convert them and because it's free without needing to sign up for anything.

Thank you very much for your suggestions but I've already fixed the issue.
As I stated in my updated post above, it was strange because I had to delete the music folder and create a new one to load the files back into. After that it worked as normal. Never ran into that problem before and I never expected to fix the issue with what I had to do.
Again, thanks though for your suggestions!

[Q] Help with Music?

All of a sudden I am getting a lot of trouble with the music on my phone. My iTunes library is very organized with all the artist info, album, album art, etc. I tried to use the Kies app to sync my music on my phone, but for some reason some tracks are moved on the my phone with the title being something among the lines of "01 Song One" and all the other song information is unknown. This is the case with maybe about 30 or 40 songs while the rest of my 2000+ song library are fine. I tried syncing with doubleTwist and got the same result. I even tried just moving the songs directly onto my SD Card and I STILL got the same result. Anyone know anything I can do so all my music are transferred to my phone properly? Thanks in advance.
Have you tried editing the properties of the music? To the proper album name and song name you want?
I do this on my computer when my music library gets messed up

Click to collapse
Edit it where? When the songs are in my iTunes library it has all the information correct.
You could use mp3tag on your PC to edit the files directly. In my experience, iTunes doesn't always make the changes to metadata to the actual file and when you try to transfer it elsewhere the data is gone. That's actually why I quit using iTunes. But mp3tag should fix those few files no problem.

media player - how to work

ok, i really have the lg optimus L9 from tmobile. but no forum yet for the L9 so here i am. just got the phone and am new to andriod, have ice cream.
just want to play a frickin mp3 and avi files that are on the sd card. if i use file manager and naviagate to avi video, i see a small thumbnail. but when i try to click it i get 'try again after scanning media file'. no idea how to scan media files. navigate to mp3 and click get a choice of google play music or music player. music player gives me again "try again after scanning media files'. now all of a sudden the google media works for my mp3 - no idea why.
guess i am trying to understand how to scan media files. and which program will use the library, google play music or music player. and how can i play video. i am ok with even purchasing a player as i really like to play just about any format without having to convert. what is the player out there that will play the most formats?
thanks
For media searching use the SD Sync app from market. Works well.
where is the best place to go to download apps?
Google Play ofcourse
ok. guess i am trying to figure for now
1) if i copy a media file to my storage card, how can i play it right away, without having to update my whole library. i want to download, point an applicaiton to it an play it.
2) what is the video player that can play the most formats?
1)Open the file with file manager. I prefer the root explorer.
2)LG stock player supports everything, at least no problems even with .mkv packed files.
Oh, you got the L9. Not sure about yours but must be same i think
Also if the file was downloaded from web, you can select/open in directly in the download manager.
Just Figured this out M'Self
OK, just had same issue (same 'system message') trying to watch videos using the built-in Video Player. Maybe it was the first time I used it, but I was actually trying to figure out how to use the new 'Q-Slide' feature to watch a video while doing something else on the phone.
I actually pulled up the manual PDF (downloaded from LG, here), then <CTRL+F> (searched the document for similar system mssgs), and got a 'hit' on Page 49 of the OEM manual (my search, BTW, was 'media files'--'scan for' never found it).
You have to let the system do this for the 'FileShare' app also (I'm sure it's about 'indexing'), so I did, and it worked.
Not so much a 'system error', as a little 'systemic quirk' (much like a cosmic queef)
