I'm on my phone here and search was of little use so I'll pose the question anyway. If there is another thread pertaining to this topic, please direct me there.
I just recently discovered SIMple Mobile. They offer SIM cards and an unlimited prepaid service. I have read around and seen that they use the T-Mobile network. Now, my question is because they use their network, will T-Mobile radios still work on my G2 if I were to switch over to that carrier?

Simple Mobile = Garbage. Unless you want to use your phone only for texting and a few incoming calls (and a lot of times voicemail doesn't even work), just pay the 89.99 for unlimited everything from tmobile. They claim to have unlimited data, but I personally and a friend of mine had our data turned off after 1gig of usage. Also customer service is nonexistent, you'll have an easier time getting a rep from metropcs on the line, lol

I stand strongly behind what PaganAng3l says. I have simple mobile, and it was the biggest mistake I have ever made in my life... I am switching to another carrier asap...
I called simple mobile which I have and the guy said that they only slow down or cut off ur service only if ur tehtering wifi hotspot...downloading multiple big movies at once or one after another or tethering ur phone with pc

then again, i dont stream movies, but i use facebook and other social apps alot.
what plan were you using? im on the $40 unlimited thing, but the 3g speeds are starting to annoy me so im about to give the $60 unlimited for the apparent "4g" speeds.

I am glad I came across this thread, I was actually thinking of using Simple Mobile, you can't beat the pricing on the unlimited 4G plans. Based on the mixed reactions, I think I'll try Simple Mobile's 3G/4G speeds for a month and consider another carrier if they aren't what they are advertised as.

Tmobile offers a prepaid no contract 4G plan at about the same price and their customer service has always treated me like gold, if Simple Mobile doesn't work out I'd give that a shot

I have simple mobile on two phones. Best service ever. Internet is fast. I had the 60 buck plan which is awesome!! 40 buck plan is good but don't expect fast internet. Never ever had a dropped call. Have it on a g2 and a vibrant. Stay away from the real t mobile they are horrible! Get the sim card off ebay for 99 cents. Slide it in... oh yeah... then change the tmobile name and pass too Simple simple and your good to go.

I'd like to read your opinions about Straight Talk $45 UL plan vs Simple Mobile $60 UL plan. I'm now on the $30 100 minute 5G TMobile plan. I love the data allowance, and the price of the plan, but the 100 min is a deal killer (tried Skype, Groove IP, Vonage to help with minutes, but I'm sick of feeling embarrassed when people ask me what's wrong with my phone, no consistent quality with calls). So I'm considering my options, even if a little higher in price. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Also, if I'm missing other companies or plans out there, please let me know about them too.

Use T-Mobiles WIFI Calling. If you call for the free add-on when you use wifi calling the minutes don't count against you. I only run ROMS with the wifi calling feature working. Of course you need wifi inorder to use this feature.

So I was having some issues with calls dropping so I decided to give good ol Tmobile customer service a call...I've had my G1 data plan since way back, and she told me that since I did not have a 4G data plan I would not be getting 4G speeds. Anyone else hear about this?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
They said a similar thing to me as well. When I tried to get my free G2 with the $20 dollar preferred android plan (I came from a $30 G1 plan), a rude representative told me if I wanted the $20 plan, I wouldn't be getting 4g speed since "It doesn't work together..."
Needless to say, I told her I would call back to another representative and get exactly what I want. And I did.
That's pretty lame....so basically are they telling me that I will never reach "4G" speeds if I don't change my plan?

This. All of their current data plans are "3G/4G". I started my plan in January this is the only option. I'm pretty sure they can't distinguish between sending you UMTS/HSDPA and HSPA+ bandwidth if your device is capable of it.
Its like, I have a G2, if I had a Nexus S (which doesn't have HSPA+), they wouldn't charge me a cheaper plan...
You can get 4g. Like I said, I just called again and a new representative gave me everything I asked for and apologized.
Yeah; I'm still on my G1 plan, and at work (fairly close to a cell tower) I regularly get 18mbit downstream speeds on speed tests.
anyone here on the $30 5gb unlimited text 100 minutes plan?
is your data slow? 1-3mb? im in DFW and according to the speed test thread others are getting much higher speeds. someone reported 15mb+!
I was able to get this plan after a week of countless tmobile support reps, 4 walmarts, 5 sim cards and 2 tmobile stores...
I dont really want to get into the details but finally got the plan but i am noticing 3g speeds and not the 10mb+ 4g speeds i was expecting. Is this plan even though a "Monthly4g" plan limited to 3g speeds? I have the 4g icon and show umts or hspa in phone info screens...
anyone have similar results, or any ideas? I have had this issue on every ROM including stock. I plan to visit a tmobile after work to view instore phone side by side with mine and compare data speeds.
No insights to share, unfortunately, although do please keep us updated on your experience. I'm thinking of switching to this plan as well.
Not too shabby.
I'm on the 'Walmart' plan in SoCal and have been getting 7-15mbps for the most part.
im on it and have recieved up to 18mb
i got that plan. my data is really fast. i even use it for tethering
Should be excellent in that area. The last time I went out there I was getting 6mb speed tests on my Vibrant. From Arlington all the way out to White Settlement.
Didn't make it to check another set @TMO today but testing again from home (white rock lake area) still 1-3m... Same I get @work in Las Colinas. frustrating...

I get anywhere from 500k - 13mb/s in DFW. I'm in tarrant county 90% of the time... mid-cities area. Everywhere I've tested in Dallas/N. Dallas, though, is always faster. I think the hspa+ is more built out there ... just more people, more tech industry, faster growth.
But yeah, the nice and releatively quiet suburbs of where live are not super fast. But im happy with my speeds

They don't, common wisdom is that it's more like 2g/mo and 100m/day before ST throttles, but you won't get an answer out of them, ever.

You should look at the prepaid thread in my sig. It details all of the plans and there are lots of testimonials of people using them.
Common wisdom is that the Straight Talk plan caps at 2gb per month (theres no way they could do 5gb data at the $45 price point).
If you want more data you're either going to have to go with the $60 Simple Mobile plan, which gives 5gb+, or the T-Mobile Prepaid plans, 2 of which offer 5gb (then throttle).

so you are sure the simple mobile plan gives 5gb before throttling? Cannot find any definite number on their website just like straight talk. On tmobile/att/cincinnati bell websites it tells you the amount of data used where you will be throttled. At least they are up front about it.

It's not published, but just crowd-sourced that they offer 5GB of data. Many MVNOs choose not to publish whether or not they throttle/cap or at what point.
So after 5gb are you throttled or are there overage fees? Im assuming throttled since it's called unlimited. And simple mobile uses tmobiles network, correct?

You choose when you start the service whether you're going to get an AT&T SIM or a T-Mobile SIM (they can pick for you based on your zip code, but you can choose manually). You can't bounce back and forth, because the SIM is only provisioned for AT&T towers or T-Mobile towers. There's no roaming between the two.
When you order, its easy to tell. In the cart it will say "AT&T compatible SIM card" or "T-Mobile compatible SIM card".

This is true of prepaid carriers. You save money but get no service. I call CS maybe once a year, so I think that's worth saving $40 a month on service.
Has anyone on straight talk At&t sim tried doing a voice call or video call using Google Talk? when I try I get a message saying I need to be connected to a Wi-Fi network. Anyone else getting this?

I am now using my Galaxy Nexus with Straight Talk on the TMO ST SIM card. Overall its great. One thing I've noticed though are the ping times. On ST I can never get a ping better than 300ms using the speedtest.net app. Also several times when I've woken my phone from idle, I notice it says its not in sync with Google services...the bars are grey and not blue. It usually goes blue again within 30 seconds saying it synced. I think it may be related to the ping issue, as I think ST data goes through a proxy before going out over the TMO network to destination. The data speeds themselves seem the same as they were when I was on Tmobile, but I seem to recall being able to get around 100ms pings or less in the same locations when I was on Tmobile.

It means first five gigabyte of data is 4 g then after that the rest is unlimited but at slower speeds.
And yes I agree t mobile has way better plan pricing than att

I like how tmo does data better, throttling speeds rather than charging for overage. Sure, the speeds are slow as heck, but it's better than accidentally paying extra per month.
I don't know much about the att trick, so I can't comment on that. But I do recommend doing a mock plan on tmo's site to get a feel for the price difference you can expect.
Good luck with whatever you choose!

Go with at&t pre pay. I just dumped tmobile after 6 years. There a joke these days. Yes plans are great but customer care is horrible and the call centers are over seas now, talking with people who barely speak English is constant. The only way to talk to American customer service is say "cancel" at the automated system.
Also got different answers to questions every time I called in. Even called a liar about past problems. Tmobile use to be awesome but now I can't stand them.
I pay $50 with att for unlimited everything.
Tmobile just over $80 for unlimited everything.
At&t customer is better. I called in with trouble setting up voice mail. He set me up and even called back 10 minutes later to make sure every thing was working right. Can't beat that lol
Edit: I'm using a Tmobile s3 with at&t. No issues with voice or data and get 4g.

I'm going to tell you why you're going with Tmobile. Yes, their customer service is over seas but only some of it is. I can tell you what to say in the beginning of the call prompt that will get you right over to the USA based retention department. Tmobile is actually addressing these issues as we speak. Their bringing more call centers back from over seas and are on a mission to get back to that top spot in customer service they held for so many years. It's kind of funny how their customer service was stellar until they started messing with AT& T. I wouldn't be surprised if ATT gave them a list of **** they wanted done before the buy out went through.
Now, onto mobile services. If you get a good signal with both of them then I would side with Tmobile. HSPA+ uses less batter power than LTE. When it comes to overages, I think ATT charges you for every MB used after 5gb and Tmobile just throttles your speeds back to the equivalent of 2G data speeds. I believe Tmobile also has a 10gb plan if you think 5gb won't be enough. In 3 years, I've never came close to going past 5gb and I use my 4G connection quite often. I tether it to my laptop and take let. I play Counterstrike through my data connection sometimes and I used to play WoW through it. I think the most I've ever used was 4600mb. As long as your not using your phone data connection to download multiple torrents a day then you should be fine. When it comes to plan prices, well that's a no brainer. Tmobile definitely has better priced plans and less nick/diming charges.
Lastly, I believe ATT along with Verizon are excluding certain features from the GS3. I just found out about one tonight. Everyone on ATT has reported the absence of a Driving Mode icon within the notification pull down menu. Tmobile does in fact have this driving mode feature. That's the only one I know of at this point but there could be more.

Just an FYI, if you go with TM and would like to take advantage of their future LTE network, the TM version of the S3 will not be compatible as stated HERE.

I got a unlock code from Tmobile before I cancelled service. Went to at&t store and then set up my unlimited plan and got the SIM. After that set a apn for at&t and your good to go. Tmobile service in my area is 2 bars max and edge data speed. At&t data has been awesome where I'm at(out in the middle of no where)
You can let people tell you Tmobile is getting better but after 6 years of hearing it I gave up. Tmobile has started there "trying" to make things because they lost top spot for customer service. There gonna do nothing but blow smoke up your *** when there's a problem.
I had problems with roaming on my s3 and was calling in quit a bit. In the end there solution was to tell me that they don't have a roaming deal with at&t in my area. Funny because my old Samsung flip would roam in the same area no problem. After telling them this, he asked me to wait on hold for a few minutes while he looks into something......he transferred me to someone else instead. You go with Tmobile you'll regret it.
3 family members who also were fed up with them followed after I confirmed how much better at&t was.

Don't go with the att prepaid plan. I looked into it because it sounded good but the data speed is 3g ... what purpose does a galaxy s3 hspa + 44 mb modem serve on 3g. Instead if your looking for the best bang for your Buck get a value plan for t-mobile ...

You can get unlimited minutes text and data for 59.99$... 2 gigabyte of 4g speeds included .

Or if you don't talk too much on the phone go with 500 minute unlimited text and data for 49.99$.

I think on att you get hspa+ 3g. I think they meant 4g as in 4g LTE.

Thanks.
Would love to but data and voice signal is pretty bad where I live. I get choppy voice calls and data is non existence inside my house. Of course I really don't need data inside my house but it just shows that signal is not very good.

Better plans. I have a $20 5gb Unlimited with Mobile Hotspot. T-Mobile knows how to treat its customers right if you prove you are loyal (I've only been with them for 4 years and I'm a "loyal" customer).

How much is the Mobile Hotspot?
Another great thing I don't think anyone has mentioned yet is T-Mobile's FREE Wifi Calling. It does not use your plan minutes and you can use it over seas instead of paying roaming charges.

wow wish I had of known before I switched my number to google voice
oh well, maybe I can still switch it back in the future.
If this is a legit deal, Tmobile might as well throw out their contract deals all together- people are going to come flocking to this.
talk, text, and 3G? No HSPA or LTE?

I am currently in a 3G area and still getting great speeds. But I don't need to tether. Gonna have to look up the specifics, see if it's truly unlimited data, or cap'd at 4-5 gb.

What's your definition of "great" speeds? 3 mbps? 5 mbps?

Ditto, I want >5Mbps which in my limited neighborhood tests T-Mobile more consistently delivered than all other major carriers both indoors & outdoors to my surprise..(though Verizon did peak higher outdoors)
I'm leaning toward their $30/mo plan..
Well guys, it's not exactly T-Mobile, but it looks to be a new MVNO they have:
http://www.tmonews.com/2012/12/t-mo...tnersupport-new-prepaid-brand-gosmart-mobile/
And it looks like it's $35 for unlimited call, text and web (2G speeds) since for $45 they have unlimited call, text, and high-speed web and it says 3G speeds right under the $45 plan, which means the "web" for the $35 plan will prob be 2G speeds.
I'd go with simple mobile, for $50, you get unlimited voice, text and 4G data (I don't believe there's a cap, but don't quote me on that).
I wish they had a plan for cheaper with 2GB of data, since I rarely use over 2GB... actually I don't think i ever have...

Exactly. I use GrooveIP just because it's so easy to set up. No problems. $30 plan is basically unlimited.
how does google voice work

Just google voice itself won't help. Google Voice is a service that will let you connect all your numbers to a central number, then depending on who calls, what time, etc. It will redirect the call to the appropriate number, but that requires you to have a number elsewhere (phone service elsewhere). Now if you combine Google Voice with some VoIP services, which let you make calls over a data connection (hence the IP part), then you essentially never have to or need to make traditional phone calls using minutes, etc.
Cons:
- data always on - more battery used
- set up - no matter how minimal or easy, my phone already has a built in dialer that works
- need to give out Google Voice # or pay $20 and end contract to port existing number to GV
Pros:
- no minutes used
- works anywhere with data connection (even abroad, but so does T-Mobile's Wifi Calling)
