No idea's what this means as ive installed zip all the time and had no problems?
you need to rename the file to bootanimation.zip and using root explorer (or any similar file manager) u need to copy and replace it to:
/system/customize/resource
now reboot and enjoy

Only works sometimes when putting into system folder. Will work EVERYTIME if you put the bootanimation.zip file in data/local/ Also you are extracting the bootanimation.zip out of whatever file it is you were using to try to flash in recovery i hope?

Ive tried that too and it doesnt work either it comes up with the same problem? Ive tried to install the zip in cwm the way i downloaded it?
first locate the directory your bootanimation.zip is in then you can use root explorer and after renaming the custom one to bootanimation.zip cut and paste it to the location this worked for me as well as using an application called absolute system which you can download custom boot and fonts and it installs them in the right locations after you set those locations up in its setup (with virtuous unity the absolute system app worked every time just use the evo4g set up)
cant get this working either, change permissions have the custom animation in the right location and reboot ....... no change
What gives??????
*EDIT* Been using a bootanimation from UOT Kitchen which seems to be compressed, unpack the files then using WinRAR change the compression method to STORE repack as a zip copy to /system/customize change permission, reboot and hay presto new boot animation working.
Glad it worked

Some ROMs disable boot animations
Different ROMs store boot animations in different locations
Different phones have different screen sizes, the boot animation needs to be made for your exact screen size (wrong size may work, but not always).)

Hi!
I've made a StarGate Bootanimation for Galaxy S II. (for Android 2.3.5)
Thanks to crispixfr for the original version (for SGS1).
Actually i resized his version, replaced its sound (the original was too dull), and updated the script for SGS2 Android 2.3.5.
Install:
First of all you have to unrar the two parts. -i had to split the .ZIP with rar because xda forum allows only 8MB attachments.
After that:
a) Install With ClockWorkMod
OR:
b) Install with root explorer (extract the .zip and paste the bootanimation.zip in system/media and PowerOn.wav in system/etc)
I recommend to increase the system volume to maximum for real experience.
(Settings>Sound settings>Volume>System volume)
Previews:
great animation. Have it also in my SGS1. The problem wich i have, is that the sound of locking symbols is to fast.... But maybe our gs2 is to damn fast.
best regards
PS. also i have a power on and off from Transformes wich i love have them on every phone that i own (glad to share with you guys)

You mean that the sound doesn't match the picture?
Maybe your phone plays the video slower than mine.
no no..you got me wrong...IT MATCH..but it plays fast then i used to sgs1. in sgs1 is more like in the movie (but i think is about that in sgs1 it take longer to boot).
it's like 1.2.3.4.5.6.7 done but no issues about sync video/audio
Looks good will give this a go i was getting a bit bored of the Galaxy Nexus boot animation anyway
Thanks you for to have updating my boot animation !!! Crispix is the best !!! And you too now lol

As i have said in the first post: First of all you have to unrar the two parts.
So there is only ONE ZIP file, which you'll have after extracting the RAR files.
After that, you only have to flash the extracted ZIP file!

Sometimes is not working the regular method (trough CWM). You need to push the files manually.
Choose a file explorer wich can gain read writte rights on system folder (personaly i use root explorer).
Step 1. Unzip the zip file wich doesn't work trough CWM flash, and you will obtain several folders (system/media wich contain bootanimation.zip) and etc/ wich contain PowerOn.wav. Copy this files in a folder inside your internal sdcard or external sdcard. Mainly you are interested on bootanimation.zip and PowerOn.wav
Step2. With file explorer mount with R/W the system folder and copy the bootanimation.zip from your folder to your /system/media folder. If you allready have a bootanimation.zip there, it will be overwritted.
Step 3. With file explorer mount R/W the etc folder, and copy from your folder PowerOn.wav to your etc folder.
Step 4. Reboot. Enjoy.
I think the same steps are also for the other kernels wich use the sanim.zip.
I don't remember in what folder is stored, but it will be like, rename the extracted bootanimation.zip to sanim.zip, and copy the new file to the respective folder. The poweron.wav is going to the etc folder.
If you have a copy error please check if you have read/writte rights on that folder. For default you have Read Only rights.
Hope that helps, and all credits go to the OP for this great animation.
best regards
This is a great animation.
Running on Checkrom Rev 3.1.1 with Green Monkey theme.
Thanks for the effort.
well done

hi everyone im new to the forum and wanted to say my god i love this forum ,all you guys help each other and im glad to be part of this forum .=) i have the htc evo 4g and its rooted .i just flashed miui rom and love it ,however,i wanted to know how i can load the call of duty bootanimation to this rom if possible .and i have 3 roms backed up that are all 3 the same how can i delete 2 of them thanks
1. Download the animation, re-name it to bootanimation
2. Place it on the root of your sd card, using a root file explorer [es file explorer, root explorer, ect] move it to /system/media and overwrite the existing one
3. Use a file manager to explore your sd card. You'll see a folder called clockwork if on cwm recovery, or nandroid if on amon ra. Open then folder and you'll see all your backups. Simply delete the ones you don't want
i have the miui rom .i have done this before and still wont work .can i delete everything i see with bootanimation? and just download a link with bootanimation and put it on my sd card ? and i figured out how to delete the back ups i did not want anymore thanks a bunch .i am using nandroid back up

Check for the /data/local folder for the bootanimation.zip [ I haven't used MIUI, but its either in /system/media or /data/local]
i went to date /local/using root explorer and get 3 folders one folder says parent folder second folder says download third folder says tmp now i go to systems and i see a folder called bootanimation.zip is that the folder im doing it as i type to you
You're in /system/media? What is the path exactly?
root eplorere its mounted as r/o i go to system and i see bootanimation .zip and i scroll down to media and if i open media i see audio bootanimation than bootanimation.zip than cod-bootanimation-aosp which is the bootanimation i want on my evo than gadget than lockscreen and so on

You need to delete the original bootanimation.zip, then rename cod-bootanimation-aosp to bootanimation [should still be .zip], reboot, and you should be good.
the cod bootanimation-aosp does not say zip next to it .does that mean its not zipped ? how do i know the bootanimation.zip is the original one ?
looking at the bootanimation folders i have about 3 folders with the name bootanimation if i long press the folder it saids i can zip the folder

Also make sure you're mounted as r/w. Long press it and hit rename, it should still be .zip, just doesn't show on the preview. Then do what I said previously.
i just switched it to r/w and i can only find the bootanimation file under s/d card and when i open the folder this is what it shows five files 1 file is parent folder 2 folder DS-STORE THIRD FILE ANDROID FOURTH FILE BOOTANIMATION.ZIP FIFTH FILE DESC.TXT WHEN I CLICK ON FOURTH FILE WHICH IS BOOTANIMATION.ZIP I GET THIS PARENT FOLDER TWO DS-STORE FOLDERS THAT HAVE A LITTLE YELLOW STAR ON THEM .NEXT FOLDER META-NF AND SYSTEM HOW CAN I START THE PROCESS FROM SCRATCH
I was following some guy called zeromax on youtube .i did what he said to do and still not worked
Well you saw all those folders because you opened the bootanimation.zip zip, which you don't need to.
1. from the sd card, copy the renamed cod bootanimation, that has been renamed to bootanimation.zip
2. go to /system/media, delete the bootanimation.zip in there
3. paste your bootanimation.zip in its place, done.

My post 2 above is the 'restart' from the beginning.
On MIUI you apply boot animations through the Theme Manager. You can either pm me a link to the animation and I'll make you a mtz to apply through theme manager, or you can follow the normal directions. If you do it the same way you would do it on any other rom, you have to go into theme manager afterwards and reapply the default animation. You would do so by going to customize at the bottom of the main screen, then choose boot animation and select the default one. You may need to choose another before you're given the option to apply the default. If you don't have one then youcan download one from the theme manager.
MIUI is different from other roms in many ways, but theming is much easier as well. If you ever need help getting certain things working on MIUI, feel free to pm me. I've been running it for over six months and know it better than I know stock Android or Sense.
Edit: You can also place the boot animation in /data/system/theme/boots, name it bootanimation.zip, set permissions to rw-r--r--, and reboot. Applying through theme manager is easiest if you're not familiar with modifying system files. As I already mentioned, I'd be happy to make an mtz for you.

You can add the boot sound through the Theme Manager. If you have the mp3, open theme manager. Select customize at the bottom, select boot sound, then choose the music app to find the sound.
I replied to your pm, do you still need me to make the theme? It's best to have the theme on hand. It'll take less than 15 minutes for me to make it, so if you want it just respond to my pm. I get notification that way, I might forget to check the thread.

Not sure if this is in the right forum, but I just heard about ROM Toolbox and wanted to try it on my GNex. I installed a new boot animation, but when I rebooted my phone, it doesn't show the installed animation. All it shows is the android text with a light flashing behind it. Any help with this? Was going to buy the paid version once my Nexus 7 arrives, but I guess I'm not sure how to properly set the boot animation.
ROM Toolbox Pro gerfungled my boot animations on both of my phones, Galaxy Nexus and an LG myTouch Q. Just erases the old one and doesn't install a replacement. Also be careful using the font installer, since it's set to overwrite your three main system fonts by default when you install a font. Also, most boot animation changer programs don't work on Samsung phones.
If you like a boot animation that Rom Toolbox shows you, just let it download. Then copy it from /sdcard/romtoolbox/boot_animations to /data/local and rename it "bootanimation.zip". Should work on next boot. Your original gnex boot animation is also in there, named backup(something).zip. You can also extract /system/media/bootanimation.zip from any zipped gnex rom file and do the same.

Worked perfectly that way! I downloaded it and moved it to /system/media, renamed the default boot to "bootanimation.bak". Fixed permissions and rebooted.
As for fonts, I'm not getting into that. I love having access to three apps in one!

Have you changed the permissions accordingly? It won't work if the zip doesn't have the right permissions (rw-r-r).

Hi,
I need to install HTC's Locations app on any custom ROM (ie: MyOneV or CM9/CM10)
So any1 can help me with this ?
(i tried it though, by moving these files (from MyOneV5.0FX Removed apks) htclocation.apk,locationpicker.apk,locatiooninstaller.apk in System/app folder bt it didn't worked)
When you move those files to system app manually, you need to put right permission rw-r--r-- then reboot.
Or the simplest way is, open the Removed_Apks_RC5.x.zip with 7-zip (not extract), delete all apks that you don't need and leave those location files in zip.
Then flash the zip in recovery.
And these files will not work on a CM rom.

I tried that too, by removing all apks from zip keeping the said three files & flash it in recovery, still it doesn't appeared in apps!
Though i'll try again may b missed something or some file..
I just tried it, it works.
Your filename looks different, attached here the files from the Removed_Apks_RC5.x.zip, I named it to location.zip. Flash in recovery.
It Worked: Thanx
Have a nandroid backup just in case something goes wrong, Ive softbricked before many times actually just for trying to change a bootanimation. It can happen.
If you already have been using data/local for install location and its working for you great. I just noticed that i used my steps below but left out changing installation directory, so ive been installing to my data/local and my changes have been taking effect. After installing bootanimations i noticed my location was data/local then i went to change it to system/media and install a animation and nothing changes. So i am using data/local now as my target, im guessing if i were just to delete the boot zip from data/local my system/media bootzip will play only because i have a bootanimation.zip already installed to that directory as well, im not going to try it yet but maybe on a rainy day with downtime on my hands ill try it. But after all said the locations of install are working just fine, in the OP instructions are just one way of setting a valid default installation. Im guessing which ever location you started using first is the location you should continue to use.

you can download xxxxxxxxxxGIF.zip and rename the extension to .gif and then use RomToolBox to Automate the install. You need help just ask ill do my best.
INSTRUCTIONS BELOW
NOTE:"Before using romtoolbox"Open romtoolbox go to bootanimations, press your menu softkey, press install location, change common locatioms value to /system/media/ select ok. Now If you are using a stock rom but a kernel that supports boot animation (and you are rooted), using rootexplorer or a similiar app go into system/bin. Find samsungani and rename it to samsungani.bak. Now find bootanimation in system/bin and rename bootanimation to samsungani. Thats it. Now all bootanimations correctly placed in the system/media will work upon boot... "
After the above has been setup on your device you can now navigate to your gif file in a file explorer app. Once you click the gif file window pops up and use gif to bootanimation, then choose to install..
or
ONLY IF YOU ALREADY COMPLETED THE STEPS ABOVE;
If you already completed the above steps with naming samsungai to samsungani.bak, and bootanimation to samsungani in the /system/bin, and changed location install to /system/media/ then you can download the bootanimation.zip and manually copy paste it into /system/media/ via root explorer or you could even open romtoolbox goto bootanimations then choose local tab then find the bootanimation.zip click it then choose install, then reboot your phone.
Because this site has bugs when uploading i have to name bootanimations over and over again (they get overwritten) so you have to rename the bootanimation after downloading to bootanimation.zip
