I'm trying out Dolphin HD right now and formerly had Skyfire. I think Dolphin is quicker but Skyfire felt easier to use.
If the performance of a web browser app suffers, it will be because it is a poorly coded interface. Very few of them use their own rendering engine (ie: Opera). The rest actually use the "web view" provided by Android, which is the same "web view" used by the Android web browser
I like dolphin because it has the privacy mode and some extra functionality on top of the web view. Firefox seemed pretty decent and includes animated gif support, but it had some severe rendering issues (I believe Firefox uses its own rendering engine). I've tried opera, but for some reason I can't remember the experience. As of now, I'm using the stock browser as my main browser.
I am using stock now because I like how one can pinch the window in to show open thumbnails of windows. I use to use Miren Browser back in the day.
Stock browser on cm7 is what I normally use. Never ready have any issues with it unless I want to watch certain flash videos, then I have to use opera

Yea on the stock unrooted browser that comes with the phone you can pinch/zoom-out the page to show thumbnails of open pages. I discovered it by accident one day. It's pretty cool.

I'm using Dolphin HD because it is essentially the stock browser with some added perks. But the main perk I love is clicking Exit. Lol that way I'm not just staying on some random site I no longer need to have. That and the tabs are cool.

Been using stock. perfectly fine with it.
Stock on CM7 is fine for me. I used it on my Dinc and now on my Dinc2, it provides all I need it to after I adjust the settings to how I like them.

Miren or the stock MIUI browser. I like how you can go back a page and it's still loaded (no need to wait for it to reload).
Dolphin all the way. Recommend to people on the weekly. Ram intensive application but has Xmarks add on and I also use the toggle desktop/Android browser mode rite from toolbar

Miren is awesome. I just wish you could theme it. I hate the blue, but it's worth it. I even found a black hacked one online. I wish google would man up and release a full featured and syncing mobile chrome. Just my two pennies.

Miren is indeed very nice, but dolphin hd seems a bit more refined/robust. Copying/selecting text is much easier too. For pure speed though, I think miren has just about everything beat.
+1 for miren. i've downloaded every browser to get a feel for the differences and its real close between miren and dolphin but i like the overall user friendlyness of miren's interface

I still like skyfire for the pop out video window but miren looks the cleanest
I've tried them all and my favorite is Miren.
Seeing we have many different browser users here. What browser is the closest to duplicating a desktop browser UI? I ask because when coupled with HDMI mirroring most browsers take up way too much screen space. I've attached a pic of what I have now but am looking for something better.

with the right settings, miren is full screen with a few transparent looking buttons. just go to the top of a page and swipe up to get full menu bars and stuff. helpful.
I honestly don't think the stock browser is half bad.
I liked Dolphin when I tried it, but one reason I didn't stick with it is that I really like the bookmarks widgets in Sense and LauncherPro. I know they're adding features like folders in their own bookmark implementation, and that is nice, but I wish they'd give an option to turn that off in favor of the built in bookmarks database if we want. That's not the only reason I didn't stick with it though -- I just didn't see anything wrong with the stock browser. Maybe I should give it another shot.

Others like Dolphin HD. personally i dont as when you scroll left or right a menu pops up - could be deactivated i guess !!. Dolphin also has gestures which is a great feature

I have used opera mini and didn't like it, skyfire was good but stopped me downloading anything like apk's etc for some reason.
Now using dolphin and think its great
I use dolphin hd. Used it across 3 generations of android
Phones and still love it.

Very useful app dude..
i use dolphin as it lets me take off the notification bar, when i view video.
For me Opera Mobile wins. Full screen, extremely fast, super smooth scrolling, nice interface. Also, Opera always reflows the text, when using pinch to zoom, which the other browsers don't.
Boat Browser, not popular but really rocks
Stock browser works great. Only thing is I have to use opera mini for some websites.
Mini dolphin is pretty good also. I personally don't like dolphin hd.

Miren Browser. As fast as Dolphin Mini but with more features and less ugly than Dolphin HD. All the above mentioned just uses the phone's browser engine to render anyways so performance should be the same as stock more or less.
Use Opera Mobile occasionally because it's even faster than stock, but some pages don't render correctly and/or links fail.
Only use Firefox when none of the above work correctly with a website.
Do you have a cab file for that browser? Would like to try it, but can't find it in the Android market.

Little background to the question..
I've been using Dolphin for a while the main reason is the intergration of lastpass. But had a problem downloading a Rom from dev host last night(which is weird because I've downloaded from there without a problem in the past) and through a suggestion tried opera and it worked...so I was just wondering what others used

It depends on what I'm doing. If I want to download files its easier to use the stock browser because it dl in the status bar.
For normal browsing I like using opera mobile. It's the smoothest and fastest browser I've tried.
The ice cream sandwich browser is really smooth too...

I also use xScope. I like that it has per domain user agents, single finger pinch to zoom, and you can swipe left or right to change tabs. I've been using Opera more and more, though.

The stock browser 'basically' is chrome somewhat. It syncs with your google chrome, can open incognito tabs, ect.

i use the skyfire web browser. it has a unique feature, that enables you to download videos from almost all websites including ESPN and other paysites that are usually blocked. it shows a download icon and gives u the option of viewing or downloading the file in the format the website plays it in. you may need a player, such as MXplayer to view formats android does not recognize, such as .flv.

I prefer Dolphin HD out of all I have tried.
I tried Firefox and it was slow and crashed a lot. The one I tried didn't have Flash capability either. I can't imagine a browser without Flash now days.

I'm a noob, so I'll just get that out the way right now, but why would you use anything but the stock browser? I guess I only really do basic browsing (ESPN, Yahoo, etc) and it seems to work just fine for that I guess...I don't ever do any big downloads on my phone, so I guess I am wondering why everyone uses another browser instead of the stock one? I use chrome for the simplicity and speed sometimes, going to try switching to chrome on my desktop, I liked the bookmark sync Firefox has I think chrome has it too. But not everything works on chrome... I have to use stock browser for things like checking my sub trust account. And then there's Opera browser I like because I can make everything in desktop mode. What browser(s) do you guys use and is there just one I might be able to use instead of all 3?

You can request a desktop version of almost any site with the stock ics browser by just hitting the menu button and checking that option.
I use Opera Mini for everything.

The AOSP browser works the best for me.
I think it is up to the user I used to use dolphin hd with the gb roms. But I have always been a fan of chrome so when ICS came out I switched to that and have no complaints I keep the stock browser installed just in case there is something that chrome cant handle chrome still is in beta I think. And the stock ICS browser is not that bad at all.

Unfortunately Adobe dropped support for mobile, so only the stock browser can do flash. I remember when they announced the chrome app it said something about not supporting flash. HTML5 video works great though!

I have tried them all as well. I like Boat Browser. No flaky UI issues like dolphin, fully functional layout kinda Mozilla like. flash works great with it.
It is also very customizable. Imports bookmarks and is very fast. My $0.02 worth..
I like Maxthon. Give that one a shot. It has tabs and a nice fullscreen mode.
The only issue I don't like is the tooltips that pop up, and so far there is no setting to turn them off.They have told me they are working on that though.

Honestly all I run on my pc's and Macs is chrome. But on my phone as much as I have tried to use Chrome there's always little bugs that frustrate me. In my book, dolphin hd is the BEST browser for mobile platforms.

i am gonna have to say chrome for this one...... i dunno why but for what i need it for it works just fine. The only thing that i have found that bugs me is that the 2 finger zoom thing that is in the "browser" is not supported here. Yeah, yeah i know its dumb but ya know what i use it from time to time when pinch2zoom is not as easy to use, for example when my 2 year old baby wants to sit on my lap doesnt want to move because he "wants me". ya know stuff like that.....just sayn...
Best browser yet. After installation you're taken to a html 5 game. It runs smooth. Now I see what HTML 5 is capable of. Also still does flash based off some sites I visited and flash runs great. Doesn't hinder scrolling and zooming. Everything is much better compared to the older dolphin HD.

Agreed. Also now when I scroll vertically I can quickly scroll horizontally without it having to stop first and vice versa. Thats annoying on the older HD and stock browser. At least for me.

That prob depends on what you need. I still want flash in my browser so to me Chrome doesnt do it for me.
One feature that I wish chrome and dolphin had for the s3 is the tilt zoom it looks like it has been removed from both. Both browsers have their + and -. I Use both :laugh:
I think you can still enable tilt scroll if you go to settings/then/labs and check off tilt scrolling

Awesome, I'll be trying this out. I used to have Dolphin Browser when I had my Samsung Vibrant but it seemed a tad bit laggy sometimes. Nice to hear that it's faster
I use three Browsers, the stock jellybean one, chrome and xscope. You guys should try xscope, it's been in the game longer then dolphin. One huge pro is that it's not bloated with nonsense.

Yes, xscope is my main launcher. You should at least give it a try.

for some reason on my t-mo S3 I tend to prefer the default browser IDK why although on my tablet I prefer it. IDK maybe i am just used to the default browser. As the only problem i have with the default browser is the tab options (using ICS) i frequently forget i have like 5+ tabs open sometimes. one thing Chrome and Dolphin excel at although no flash in chrome is a no go for me as my cable provider cox uses flash on its tv viewing page and has not app yet very very sad.
