[Q] need help with a strange screen problem - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an HTC Desire Bravo and it suddenly developed this screen issue.
I uploaded images of the phone to my flickr. It seems that perhaps the lcd oil has leaked or maybe water has gotten in. I'm sure it was caused by pressure on the screen as the LED backlights are more visible round the sides now and the inside screen (LCD) seems curved outwards but the outside (digitizer/touchscreen) doesnt seem bent. anyway here's the links to my pictures, If anyone finds a way to fix it without sending it off to get a new screen please let us know!

In order to fox the screen yourself it literally requires you take take apart the ENTIRE phone from back to front. I'm sure you can find a guide on Google, but you'd be really putting your phone at risk if you haven't got any experience with this.

You can't fix this yourself.. needs to be sent for repair, you'll only make it worse mate

I kinda figured. I was hoping to see if it was possible to open the phone and just blow air between the screen and digitizer.. that way i could theoretically pop them apart with like a bit of surgical tubing and an industrial strength blower.
But if the screen isnt connected with a ribbon and is just silicon stuck on then i'm not doing it. HATE that silicon ****.
Oh and thanks bortak

I had the same problem on my Samsung jet. It's a LCD leak. U can fix it ur self but it is very complicated and requires you to dissassemble your phone ..

this weird spot appeared on my screen yesterday, and I have no idea why... How do I get rid of it?
Looks like the start of somthing nasty like a newton ring.... do you have an amoled or lcd screen?

it seems that you have pressed the digitizer against something or left it sowhere hot. but i have seen this again and it went away on its own. if it does not you must send it to htc for repair.

It's SLCD. Also, I didn't pressure it, and it was in the cold when this happened, about -12 C
digitizer+touch sensitive part, not the lcd. anyhow. try to leave it in room temp and see what will happen.

Well, I'm still going to take it to HTC Care. I already unrooted, so there's nothing to lose. I hope I'll get a replacement though...
Sorry for the bump, just wanted to post that I got the phone back 2 days ago.. 58 days in service.

OMG My phone was on repair with cracked inside AMOLED screen(not the digitizer) for a week only. Did you actually got new phone or the same? and did you get it fixed? did you pay for it or was it in warranty?

part of Touch screen not responding

hey...
lately i hve been noticing that the bottom part (while phone is held vertical) of my defy's touchscreen is not working like i can't select settings button in latest edition of camera360 or delete icon in quickpic..!
so can somebody test these apps with their defy.... nd suggest me how to test my touchscreen??
try touch screen test apps such as Multitouch visbile test, search in the Android market.
tried touch test....encountering problem there also
so i guess would have to take it for warranty!!
i guess... it could be a digitizer problem...
actually m still confused whether its a touchscreen problem or not bcoz the problematic part seems to be just 4mm above capacitive buttons!!
just tell me are u able to close android's standard notification panel using touch in stock froyo??
Are you resolve this problem?!
My Defy have this problem too...
Hey guys,
My Defy had the same problem a few weeks ago but on the left part of the screen caused by condensed water.
I sent it to the repairing company in Germany and the device got a new screen. Now it is working again .
The repairing was for free due to warranty.
I hope I could help and sorry for my bad English ;-)
is there any other way to fix that problem ? i had similar problem, part of the top of my touch screen doesn't respond. i'm little bit confused if this problem caused by condensed water. defy supposed to be a water resistant right?

water resistant but not water proof!
My defy spaz's out any time rain drops are on the screen or even if my finger is wet or overly sweaty
so i'ts true about digitizer ? there's no other way except to replace the digitizer with the new one ?
any software fix like using other ROM?

Hi all (",) i just have exactly é same problem as Mr. ohyeach (top portion only not responding). As my Defy warranty is over, other than hardware fix, could there be any other way to fix it, like using another custom ROM? Thank you.

Earpiece speaker replacement?

Hi, my earpiece, earspeaker stopped working a few weeks ago. I've checked on youtube but there are only lcd, screen, wire,replacement etc. I know that you do have to take the phone apart all the way till almost to the screen or lcd.
My quetions are:
1.) Are there instructions or guides out there I can use that you guys can provide?
2.) Will the process be difficult? 0-10, 0 being easy, 10 difficult?

1) Nope, but according to this image:

It looks that the earpiece is right here:

So if i'm not wrong , it's basically the same steps as those for the lcd. By experience for changing my LCD, I would said it's pretty easy to do (difficulty: 3).
Follow this guide: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0LJnqTlBVQ
But don't remove the LCD panel
Just take your time and be cautious and it will be easy.
Yeah, that's the one I was looking. So basically before taking the lcd off, I can pretty much access the ear speaker and replace them from the looks of it in the video?

Pretty sure you can, anyway it's 5 bucks + 2$ for tools.
What did you do? I am in the same boat and was going to take it to a repair shop, but it looks like it's completely doable. My earprice died last night.
Thanks a lot although not sure if its worth it with all the time it will take for the disassemble will see if I am in the mood.
Loudness!!
Is it also possible to order an earpiece part that will boost the loudness??

[Q] Second opinion on touch screen problem?

Sadly do not seem to be having a lot of luck recently with my HTC Desire Z.
After looking over topics on this subject and trying most of then including using HtcCalibrate.apk.
Found a screen touch test app and got this result:

}
I hope you can see this image.
There are 2 lines 1 towards top of screen and 1 in the middle, where I can not make any contact.
I assume that this means replacement of digitizer/touch screen part?
Just would like second opinion or any more options before I try repair or pay for repair.
I have the same problem in my desire z,the non working area of the screen being the left of the screen and the home key.Also sometime the touch will just stop registering touchs alltogether,or register false touches.If someone knows,before trying to repair it,is it the digitizer,or the ribon that conects the two halfs of the phone?

Almost 100% its the digitizer

I have the same problem in a different area. How much trouble is this to replace? Can I do it myself, or is it technical? How much does the part cost, and where to buy it from?
Sorted
Well when I looked into replacing touch screen part, there is a you tube video you can watch to see how it's done.
Yes it is complex in my eyes but have a look here's link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9S7k1OJalM
Cost me £45.00 to get it done locally.
You can get part easy off Ebay if you want to do it yourself.
What's the part called? How to search for it?
Parts
Assuming you have the same fault as my HTC you need replacement digitizer.
Just type "htc desire z replace digitizer" into Ebay.
Is the repair easy for an amateur like me? Or is it delicate and I'd better get a repairman?
I find them very simple to replace but i have done around 10 for the vision and dozens on other phones. I dont think you need to be well versed in electronics repair for a job like this, its mostly screws and common sense.
Id say as long as you have a little patients and are willing to watch youtube videos and do a little research even an amateur should have little worries. There is no soldering or anything else that may be considered technical required.
only thing that may be a little tricky for a novice is separating the digitizer from the bezel, but its still fairly easy. for a little more you can buy it together if your worried, seen it this way on ebay at least.
good luck!

[Q] What should I do with this screen?

Hello,
I've had my desire for almost a year now, and it broke yesterday... I was playing with my 6-year old nephews, and my desire fell out of my pocket. I didn't know that it was broken until I wanted to check my whatsapp a few hours later, and when I did, the screen was like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
... (lol the image is way too big)The touchscreen is working fine, I can turn it on and unlock it, I can even send an whatsapp, because I knew where the icon was. So what should I do with it? Repair it if it's possible? How much would that cost? I now have an iPhone 3gs as stand-in, should I keep that for as long as my contract lasts (1 year)? Or should I buy a new one? If so, which one would you advise me? A cheap one please, as I want to save for the PS4 later this year.
I'm running Sandvolds ICS for those that want to know...
Thanks!
There's a possibility that the screen cable is slightly disconnected. Try to disassemble the phone, and check the cable.
Thanks for the reply, I'll give it a try
Edit: Yeah I tried to take it apart, seems I've got no T5 screwdriver at home... Basically, if I would take it apart I would have not any idea what te screen cable is... Is it the LCD connecter? I do know quite a bit about software and that sort of stuff, but I'm a n00b at replacing hardware :S

I had the exact same screen on my Desire :silly:
That screen is broken and you need to replace it. I would recomend a professional to do it because I tried to do it myself and I destroyed my phone. And the other thing if you decide to go on with replacement - Desire had two different screen types and every type had one or two subtypes which are NOT compatible with each other so you need to know exactly what type of screen you have
