Hi Guyz,
Perhaps you all know Next2Me for the Windows Mobile 6.x OS. This app was quite successfull (one of the 10 most downloaded apps in the Marketplace) and also here at XDA-Developers, quite many people liked my tiny app. If you don't know it, here is the link to the corresponding thread: http://xda-developers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=619329
So, why am I writing here? Because I am going to port Next2Me to Windows Phone 7. And I want YOU to participate on that ! I don't want you to code for me, but you have the great chance now, to submit your feature requests here, to get the software you always wanted to have !
The port of Next2Me is quite envolved by now, and it is already working, so I would be able to send the current state of the software to the Marketplace. But I just want to let you send your feature requests, to get Next2Me even better as it was and now is.
Current feature list of Next2Me
o Location based business search using Google Local Search
o Show a map overview with all found businesses
o Show detailed information (address, phone numbers, etc.)
o Let you add the infos to the contact list, forward the contact by E-Mail or SMS or call the found phone number right from Next2Me
o Show your position and the target contact on a map and the route to the target
o Give you a directions to guide you to the target
So, as you can see, the software is quite envolved by now.
What features will also be implemented:
o Support different local search providers (Wikipedia, Bing, Yahoo?, Yelp?)
o Support free text search for local search
If you are still missing any features, THIS is your chance! Post your feature wish here, let's discuss about it and perhaps it will be implemented !
[UPDATE 10-19-2011]
Next2Me v1.0 has been released in the Marketplace. You can find it here.
Next2Me will be devided into a free and payed version. The free version will show a small ad at the top of the main window. The payed version won't show this. Also the payed version will received new features before the free one and some features will be in the payed version only. But the core element of Next2Me, the local search, will stay free.
But, If you'll buy Next2Me (I am planning to sell it for 99Cent), you will not just get rid of the ad and get some unique features, you will also support me and my dev projects .
Feel free to post any question or suggestions regarding Next2Me here !

i got a little idea. It would be cool if you could set it up so that everyday at a certain time it would set its self automaticlly to go somewhere. So if you leave for work at 7 everyday it would set its self for that location. Also would be cool to able to send your location to other people
I like the idea with sending your current location to other people. I think I will implement this feature ..
But: what do you mean with the other feature, setting your position at a specific time? Why should I do that? Every WP7 device has a built in GPS sensor, so I do have the current location at any time..
This sounds good, Bing does not provide Local search for my country so I need something else to give me access to Google's excellent business listings.
Will this be free / paid / trial-ware?
Next2Me WP7 release
Sorry guys for this long delay..
Finally, I released Next2Me for Windows Phone 7. You can get for free from the Marketplace.
The next version is already in work, with several more features.

If you could make the voice an option for input and integrate with latitude (google) it worked on my 6.5 unit with my fiances iphone was really handy especially with her getting lost

I just had a look on the voice recognition, but I think I must disappoint you. There isn't an API for that at the moment and I don't want to rebuild a voice recognition myself. There are several solutions using web services, but this solution would be slow and doesn't work very well. Microsoft is already working on an own Siri called TellMe! I already registered myself for that API and as soon this is available on WP7 I'll implement this feature in Next2Me .

Heya,
I recently got a Touch HD and love it! However, im finding it difficult to find the applications i want and although i have seen the wiki lists for the suitable applications, im sure more could be done to help this.
So what I wanted to ask was is there any way an app market type software could be made that would include all/most the software out that there (like android, iphone etc...)
I dont mean a big package with all the software, i just mean a source of info and compatibility and clicking a link will start the download.
Is this possible? Cos if so, this would make the Touch HD even more amazing!
Cheers guys for any feedback.
Anyone got any ideas? Is there not anyone out there that can create/develop such a piece of software?
look out for the Microsoft Mobile Marketplace that's coming with the launch of Windows Mobile 6.5
The above, plus you can use the PDM app to download programs (but it's not generic for Blacksotne).
maybe someone can collate all the programs and their links and a description of what it does and if it works. this could be an msi package too?
just surf this forum and that's all
Answer!!
Thank you for your help, however, trawling thru this forum is a long process just to find certain pieces of software.
But, I have found an answer to my own question, if anyone is interested.
A piece of software is in development called "Gecko". Look at
http://www.getgecko.org/
Beta testing has been done and expected date was april, so its delayed but it seems promising for those of us that wont have windows 7 and its application market. (unless sum1 creates a rom of it!)
Yup, Gecko is here for that. Stuff is indeed getting delayed and I'm being pretty quiet about it, but it's still under development.
It's damn sad Microsoft hasn't already cooked this for us!
Why would you keep quiet about it? it sounds like such a gr8 project! I cant wait.
any chance of getting a release date for gecko. please??
No release date set, but I'm starting to look for ways to efficiently share the source code. I won't make it out alone with all the stuff going on right now (positive stuff, of course!)
Freeware PPC, and the numerous FTP sites, along with device update, and PDM.
These are the many places I've fund over 85 different applications("apps") that I run on Windows Mobile 6.x.x. These all being in many places, sometimes hard to find, sometimes easy to find. Other "apps" include going to a website, made for and by the "app" parent company.
I have around 500 cabs on my HDD, updating and reorganizing them all the time.
Now say I make up a handy spreadsheet(on my phone) That goes over screen size Supported OS versions, and various other things including a description. Is there any way that someone else, that has a lot better understanding of mobile "app" writing than I do, take the info I compile, and apply it to their Marketplace for window Mobile, the real one.
I would hope to include my best Icon(that may take a while), and Potentially server mirroring the apps, since I already keep all the "apps" I use and have acquired, in a very organized fashion.
The style of PDM I like a lot more than M$Marketplace, the search feature is nice(sorting ITL and WWE is convenient. The touch interface, such as the drop down info, is also well implemented.
Device Update on the other hand it awesome, its simple, very similar to the OS it runs on.
I know WinMo is dead, within a few months from this threads initial post, it will be outdated, and completely forgotten shortly thereafter. But I know plenty of people sticking with at least one older model(e.g. HD2) and the apps are really out there.
Anyone care to work on this? I just lost my main PC and have been using my phones word processor and multiple web browsers to keep myself as close to a real PC as possible, this also had me downloading apps for usage similar to what I was doing on my PC.
Alongside this, I read an article about why someone is using the iPhone 4 as a "daily driver." When it came to his comparison of the apple, android, and WinMo marketplaces, he went over how although there is always an app there for WinMo its painstakingly hard to find. This is true(at least to those average consumers) and as he mentioned the Marketplace holds 1100 "apps."
I've been using a PPC since 05-06(can't remember...) and love what WinMo has had I.M.O. Over the other OS's. I have always been able to find exactly an app(s) for that. Normally in the larger "collections" I've grabbed from the net, there are thousands in each 0day pack and he was releasing them on a regular basis.
I also know that this could really help the platform, it would be the user made the marketplace. Then what's stopping M$ from handing us helpful(outdated e.g.. code) info that can make our app store even better.
I don't want a mimicking app store(although a skinnable one would beat unique) I just want something that can help out and be user made, user maintained.
Let me know what you guys think.
I worte, and published thi from my TyTn II(at&t tilt)
XDA Marketplace
Hi,
Nice to see your thoughts on this...
xda member 'davidgida' has developed an application 'XDA Marketplace' (thread)
Your repository would be a great addition to it ... I will point him to this thread as I have pointed to his
Hope to see a great partnership come in place !
I would love it if you upload your cab files to the xda market
If you have an idea what could be improved on the xda market or a feature you would love to be added just PM me. Every new idea is welcome.
EDIT:
Nearly I forgott:
This is the official thread for the xda market: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=707988
Wow, I saw this thread drop off the main page listing so fast, I figured all was missed.
Glad to find the App that's here already, Just got my Tilt2 Monday, was busy borrowing other peoples internets to flash deepshining on it. Got it up and working the same day I got it.
I'll try to get my FTP server back up. I'm currently running all my computers in my office on shared shared internet. Tethering to my main rig, and sharing the net to the other three. My switch recently died, and the wire running from the lower floor died shortly thereafter. I've been only online with my phone.
After I get the XDA app store on my phone, I'll compare my list to yours, then null out the duplicates. The spreadsheet I can custom tailor to similar categories, but I haven't seen the layout yet. Hopefully it will only take me a few days to write up some descriptions.

Okay,
There will be some design problems with the qvga/vga version. I currently working on a complete new version of the xda market. I will fix this error with the new version
Hi,
I hope you are still interested in a market.
I'm now finished with developing xda market v2.1
if you want to you can take a look at it:
Hello,
I am slowly starting to develop for Windows Phone 7 now, and I want to realize one app I have in my mind since day 1 I first heard about WP7 back on MWC (too bad I wasn't in Spain, it's not _that_ far ).
Anyway, this app is about Notes. What I am trying to do is that you always pick one note you want to show on homescreen and it will show via live tile. How? This part is thought through, just need to realize it now.
Another part is TODOs, where you will be able to also add DATE to some TODO and when this time comes (+- few minutes - WP7's notifications are limited, I am not sure how much yet), it will popup as Toast message.
But to make this both come true, it will require one thing - you to register (I thought of using device ID, but I want to be able to manage it from internet from your PC too. I have done autologging when app starts, so its not the issue) and all (or just the one, pinned note) and all dated TODOs will be stored on my own server solution, pushing notifications to your device. It might seem wrong to keep your data on my server, but that's how it works now. Sorry guys.
I have now done logging & registering part and some base notes stuff (mostly server side, in PHP), I will be working during next days on the notes and TODOs meanwhile (hell, I might even try combining them somehow? Tips are welcome here!), I lost all free time lately so I have only few hours per week.
Are you glad I am going to WP7? I still don't have any WP7 device though, anyone wanna donate me one? (Even the Samsung Taylor as the developer's pre-production one is enough ). I am buying new car so there isn't money for WP7 phone. All tests are done in emulator. Hope it works on real device...
Regards, OndraSter
Good stuff. Hope to see you active on WP7 development as well and other developers follow
I downloaded somewhere some image sizes - below are two. I am not too sure which one I downloaded these for / from. But can these icon information be used for Windows Mobile 7, Android, and iPad / iPhone?
From what I think I remember speaking with one developer helping him with testing his game, I think he said it was $99.00 a year for 100 applications. If I only wanted to submit one (free) application, would it be better to find someone that already has the feature to develop this application? The application is very small - mainly to read one specific RSS feed.
Hey
the developer account costs are not connected to the image license price. If you want to submit a WP7 app to the marketplace, you have to own a developer account, that costs $99/year. But this price does not grant the permission to use these pictures. You have to ask the creator whether you're allowed to use them.
Regards
Chris
Thanks - sorry I did not mean to imply I would use these images, I just did not know if it was these image (sizes / quality) that was needed.
If the developer has an account though and he develops the app that I need, can he use that account to upload the app?
Hey
For the licensing procedure and requirements you should visit this link:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh184843(v=VS.92).aspx
But I don't get your question. If you're asking wheter you could have another developer programming and submitting the application you need the answer is yes. Every developer that has an account can send apps in. You just have to find someone that wants to create your application. Another possibility would be to program your app yourself and send the compiled version to a developer, so that he can pass it to the WP marketplace...
Regards
Chris
If you need an app built for something easy like an RSS feed, check this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=941248
it discusses a build your own app website.
http://thirdlabs.com/
I have never used it and have no afiliation with the site, but it looks easy enough...
Anywho, once the app is made, you can
sideload it (if you're unlocked)
pay for a dev account and submit it ($99 a year)
try to get a free student account and submit it (see here )
find someone with a dev account that will submit it for you
good luck
Thanks for the links! I have run into the RSS feed link - but it was not that site.
Yes, Chris - that answers that question. I thought as much but wanted to make sure. (Sorry it is difficult for me to sometimes get my point across due to my health).
I am working on a web service and thought it might be of interest to Windows 8 app developers out there, who might find the service useful and could even help testing it and offer advice on how to improve.
The product (codename Myelin, currently in alpha) brings powerful user feedback tools directly into your mobile apps. With just a couple of lines of code, you can integrate functionality that not only allows users to send comments directly to the dev, but also to track any replies and provide additional follow-up after the first submission. No private information (such as email address or account name) is ever shared, and no registration is required. It just works directly from the app.
Coming in the future are even more exciting features that make meaningful communication between the dev and the end user simpler and faster.
On the backend we have a feedback management portal that allows to monitor incoming feedback efficiently and manage any required follow-up in a bugtracking-like approach (think support tickets).
We have recently rolled out a client (== app plugin) for Windows 8 HTML apps, and would welcome devs willing to take it for a spin and give us feedback. BTW, XAML support is coming in the future; if you'd be interested, let me know and this work may move further up the priority list. XAML version for C#\VB Win8 apps is also available.
The service is currently free while it's in active development. While there are plans to eventually take it commercial, we will in any event be very accomodating to our early adopters.
You can read more at https://www.tfp0.com/s/windows8. If you're interested in learning more, reply here, PM, or just go ahead and sign up over at the website (we have plenty of spots available) to see what we have going there.
Below is a collage of various screens that the plugin introduces in the form of settings flyouts.
<= clickable
Since I've seen some offline interest in a XAML-based version, I wanted to note here that we did in fact roll out a version of the plugin for XAML.
In addition, both versions (HTML and XAML) are now available through NuGet as Timefork.DyneinXaml and Timefork.DyneinHtml .
