Correct...but i have two...one is wire tether...and the other wireLESS tether...one came with the rom i believe. I just used the wireLESS tether..and seemed to be a whole lot faster than wire tether with the preset settings it came with...also...what lets you know how fast is fast? The green numbers in the bottom left hand corner?

its the sprint hotspot that originally cost 30 bucks a month but now is hacked and called wireless hotspot and is built in....
For wired tethering:
Goto settings/wireless and networks/ tethering for usb tethering
or for wireless its a built in app called wireless hotspot
and since its made for our phone and built into our settings:
you wont have crashes disconects, slower speeds and it will work on 4g flawlessly

[Q] Ok Guys help me out plz, tethering problem

hey guys, my phone is rooted ofc.... but I cant seem to find a tethering app that supports usb tether? its all wifi, my pc does not have a wifi card so its out of the ? unless i buy one. Id like to just use USB tethering i tried pda net but it drops connection constantly. Does anyone know an app that allows usb tethering thats for rooted phones? High speed internet is not availible in my area believe it or not lol and im paying sprint for the pam plan..... thx guys!
I think it requires a custom kernel, so there were a number of the Eclair custom Kernels/ROMs that supported it and had an app built in. The original ACS ROM comes to mind. I believe however to get it on the Froyo ROMS we need to wait for the souce and custom kernels.
Have you tried the app "pdanet"? I haven't tried it my self, but its supposed to do just that while bypassing carrier (read: sprint) blocks.
It worked great on my blackberry.

Easytether is a really good one.
Or since you're rooted, try one of the custom leaked froyo roms that has native USB tethering built-in.

Used before Wireless Tether
Does anyone know which froyo ROMS have the ability to usb tether. I use this on two computers, and wifi on a third. The lack of usb teething has kept me from going to 2.2. But with delay after delay, I think it is time to make the switch! I just need a ROM that will allow me to do what I need to do.. If I have to wait, then I guess I have to wait.
ive searched for this as well and no froyo roms will let you usb tether, im using sydicate rom it has usb and wifi tether built in also lets you 4g usb tether. i am anxiously awaiting froyo 4g tethering....

Yep the app starts the sprint tether I think.
What did you hit to make it reboot? It did reboot once when I turned the tether off but I don't know if it's done that consistently.

Yeah, I don't think there is any way of getting around that. Small price to pay for some awesome Froyo tether
It's definitely just as fast or faster than mobile AP was.
do we still require a kernel that supports this? or has anyone gotten it to actually work. i know its an experimental build, but it didnt work for me. my lappy could see it, which is good because it cant even see ad hoc, but it failed connecting.
edit: hmmm, ya i see now its working for you. i still have old wifi tether installed, maybe thats it?
ok last time i mess with that, For heads up dont mess with any of the sprint stuff, it makes your phone reboot then makes it pop up an error when trying to connect, if you do just clear the app data and start over and it seems to work now

Worked perfectly to me and connected to my ipod touch no problem first try, and i had the old one installed, and then i uninstalled and still work,
Just a note dont mess with the sprint hotspot that pops up with it, it will just **** it up and you will have to clear data on the app or uninstall and reinstall again.

No. The app "talks" directly to the kernel. There is "something" implemented in the framework which detects that necessary kernel-setup-steps were performed.
It's not using the official hotspot-app/feature at all - only kernel-stuff (that's why it even works on CM6).

So this is the same as MobileAP(works on ps3)?
Is there any advantage MobileAp have over this?

Well i guess if i could unistall the sprint hotspot some how i could, avoid that, the only reason it pops up is because this app uses the official sprint hotspot stuff, as seen in the mobile ap thread, someone bought the subscription and helped this guy make this work.

is it possibile to get rid of sprints hotspot or is it always there besides cm6?

You could try ... but I think that notivication is triggered by the "system-framework" and not by the hotspot-app. The key were some dmesg-dumps to see which parameters are passed to kernel. Since I know the bcm4329-driver a little bit it was not that hard ... but it took some time and around 70 mails to/from "formula84" (the guy who was very helpful with testing/logs).

Downloded Bonsai v4.0.0, why cant i use the 4g with wifi tether, phone crashes??

It's a known issue with wifi tether pre10 and pre11. Try clearing the app data and see if that helps.
You can also spend some time here.

The guys that make the. Wifi software do very well. However, they have no control over any other mods you have done. So just keep trying to make it work. Alternatively, you can pay Sprint $30 a month and have it work fine all the time.

Wireless Tether for Epic Advice!

Hey everybody.
I am in need of having my wireless tether run in infrastructure mode instead of adhoc.
I am running a Rooted Epic. Stock ROM/Kernel.
I don't mind flashing kernels if required.
Thank you for your help!!!
Go here: http://code.google.com/p/android-wi...mmary+Uploaded+ReleaseDate+Size+DownloadCount
And choose one of the wifi tether 3.0.0 versions,
I recommend backing apps and info in case something gets corrupted and you may want to get any of the custom kernals in the development section will make it work better.
This ones are experimental so use at ur own risk and always have a backup. They do infrastructure
Thanks for the advice. I downloaded the genocide 1.0 kernel. Installed it.
When I install any of the 3.0 wifi tether apps, the app starts as normal, requests super user request. I grant it. It then vibrates and reboots....
Any thoughts?
Thank you!

Hmm have you tried any custom roms...
maybe its a stock rom issue..
also did u try pre 11 ?
If you want to dive in to roms, i reccomend Bonsai first choice or Syndicate for second choice.
You may also want to make sure in the wifi settings to select your device in the profile, then select softap in the setup method and enable mss clamping as well as access control
if those settings dont work on stock rom with genocide then i reccomend getting a custom rom, i use pre11 on bonsai no problem.
Also question are u trying to start wifi tether with 4g on?
if so thats the problem and you need to start in 3g then turn on 4g after it started.
Right on! Thank you.
Yes you hit the nail on the head with having 4g on.
Disabled 4g. Connected via wireless tether 3 pre11 bamn online no issues.
Stock ROM / Genocide 1.0 Kernel.
Problem with me and the epic is I get way to involved and find my self wasting hours of time dealing with roms / updates / etc. So I have elected to stay with EC05 + root + Kernel.
Again thank you for your help, being a Network guy I understand what it takes getting good support.
Thank you.

not a problem, what so ever, just been on these forums and reading a lot since the epic came out so i know my share of stuff.
Oh and im actually going to school working on my network degree
Hello I had a related question: I just rooted my EPIC with the stock filesystem yesterday. This was mainly for tethering my Nook color and I used the 2.5.5 CWM version in the sticky for rooting.
I've tried the 3.0 pre 12 release of wifi tether. Following are the problems:
1) On enabling Wifi Tethering, I get a message Sprint "Hotspot Connected" in the notification. And if I click on hotspot connected it takes me right to the Sprint Hotspot! Now does this imply that the 3.0 version ACTUALLY uses the Sprint's hotspot service? In which case, I shall have to pay the $30? Can anyone confirm this?
2) I get awful speeds on my 4g. While my phone gives 4-5 meg download, on tethering with wifi tether, I get very low speeds like barely .5 mbps. In fact the 3G is actually faster than 4G using WiFi tether. Any idea what seems to be throttling the 4G speeds? (and yes, I disconnect 4G before tether and then put it back on).
Thanks in advance!
When it says sprint hot spot activated it activated it with out actually authenticating anything as if u look in the sprint hotspots settings u see the checkbox isn't checked to activate it that's is because the wifi tether app by passes the authentication there for it is free as for slow 4g speeds its a know issue on wifi tether and don't think we will see a fix anytime soon so stick with 3g or don't use it also I think some people have better speeds with pre 10 or 11 on 4g I wouldn't know where as I don't have 4g

Thanks for the reply.
So If I understand correctly, you are saying that the Sprint hotspot is activated but NOT authenticated. This means there will NOT be any charges i.e no $29.99 fee. Correct?
As for the 4G speeds, it's a bummer that it's slow on wifi tether. I'm not sure there is a choice of selecting any other program, as it seems that ONLY wifi tether supports infrastructure routing. That said, I'm ok with 3G speeds (better than nothing).
Thanks again for replying promptly. Much appreciated!!

not a problem bro and yes no charges as it is bypassing the authentication been using it for awhile and no fees
I'm using the viper rom, and I had the same problem of the wifi forcing closing but it seems to work when I go from wifi to hotspot ( I did for testing pruposes, I need it for work Ideally) but when I'm at work and on a 3g connection even 1x (its an old building) it will feeze crash then reboot, but ill try it again.
Does 4g have to be off for hotspotting to work or just not be connected?
And I work at radioshack. I get an employee discount, and when I was having some problems with an unrelated issue, so I called employee line help and hinted about illegally hotspoting, they said the could detect that and charge me. Should I be worried because I'm on an empolyee line? Or is their threat BS?
Thanks for helping a noob.

I wouldn't worry about the threat I've been tether since it first came out and I haven't got any warnings bills or anything u should be fine
As for the force closing, what pre version are u using I'm able to tether 1x and 3g on bonsai Tom on pre 11 and this one has been the mist stable for me.
Also try clearing wifi tether data in settings/manage applications/all/wifi tether/clear data
Or uninstall it and reinstall it
Also try other versions maybe u will have better luck with another version.

Pre is the version b4 the final kinda like a beta Goto the site above that I posted and u will see they have 3.0.0 versions that have Pre after showing the latest
Sent from my iPod touch cause epic is bricked or dead
To those not happy with their 4g tethering speeds, I wonder if possibly the root of the cause has something to do with the fact that wifi and 4g will not both enable at the same time (maybe they share some kind of a channel, the same way some devices share irqs, internal laptop devices may share a usb root hub).
In any event, in my experience the wired tether app is MUCH faster on 4G. I want to say I've gotten somewhere between 8-11mbps over USB. Hope this helps someone.

Epic and PS3

My epic has SRF 1.2 and the genocide 1.1 kernal. It came loaded with wifi teather which is working very well. I tried connecting it to my ps3 and it did not work. To my understanding it is because ps3 need infrastructure mode to work. I have wifi teather 3.0 pre11. Is there a newer version that can support the ad-hoc or infrastructure mode that the ps3 needs? Is there a link to the download? Thanks
Flash this drop boxlink here in clockwork and use the built in sprint hotspot, which will be called wireless hotspot

It says for ef02 only. So will it work with srf 1.2 and genocide 1.1 kernal? My epic was ec05 stock. So I uninstall my current hotspot app and flash the other one and use the sprint hotspot, will this charge me?
Dude do not tell me you are trying to play black ops with a 3g connection I will be so pissed if I ever get into a game with your connection. Laggy as hell

please leave feedback in that thread and let us know we have been waiting awhile for more results on both those roms on 4g thanks!!!
How did you get wifi pre 11 to work. My ps3 finds the teather but when I press connect it fails to find the ip address.

I feel like this thread should be closed if only to spare the rest of us the frustration of a host migration during black ops

Lol, I was streaming 720p on Netflix last night on 3G when my Comcast Cable died. I was using Wireless tether built into my Nexus S. DL speeds are around ~2200kbps.

A 3G connection for your PS3 is pointless. Though I have sucessfully done it for the sake of 'Signing in' on my PS3 to play Combat Training with Black Ops. Anyway, if you're going to tether to your PS3 wether it be 3G or 4G, grab a Laptop, grab a ethernet cable, and hook one end to the laptop and the other to the PS3, and turn on internet sharing on your Laptop. I've used sprint's 4G service to play black ops, it even put me as host and everyone had a pretty stable game. The most you'll get off 3g is signing on to PS3 though.

*EDIT*: After Proof-Reading, even though it's common sense to me, it may not be for all, make sure you setup your PS3 to a 'Wired' Setup so it can pick up the Laptop's Internet Sharing. Have Fun. Post Feedback on your success!
